5 out of 5 stars To Die For !!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-22

These CDMaximums(made in Russia) are getting more scare by the day, and it's no wonder. The commies have discovered 2 things: capitalism and wacked out music that I don't listen to and can't hum.

The company has decided not to print these anymore, so that's all folks. They don't answer e-mails, nor will they sell them anywhere near the USA. Cd's that have been sold are gone forever, as they will not print anymore of these crisp recordings, unless they get a firm order for 1,000 or more.

You'll also note that these two Beatle albums are not even available unless you purchase the Capitol Version (Vol.1) and even then you won't get the 11 bonus tracks.

I can't believe these are still unsold!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2005-07-13

Pretty nice album. The live tracks are great. The acoustic version of "I Want To Save You" doesn't quite live up to the original, but is fun to own. The main reason to get this album is if you are a fan of the band and want a copy of Forget December and Konstatine. Whether you think Konstatine is an amazing song or not, the only album that had it was out of print until the release of this EP. I am a fan of the song and happy to finally get a legal copy of it :)

5 out of 5 stars Konstantine.......2005-07-01

im 18, just too lazy to fill out the form for the other review page. i just wanted to say that i agree that konstantine is one of the best songs ever. it is definetly my favorite song i have ever heard. they're are so many songs that are amazing and you wish they never end. well konstantine almost fulfulls these wishes. its nine minutes are just enough to make my heart content. i never get bored listening to it....as for the guy who said it isnt perfect. of course its not, there is not going to be a "perfect" song. people are always going to complain about something. but this is close enough to perfect for me.

3 out of 5 stars no... not really.......2005-06-25

the people below are saying that this EP is worth it just for 'Konstantine', which is their opinion, but still, Konstantine isn't perfect. It's alright, but overlong and uninteresting in part of it. I like SoCo, but still I think Konstantine is not worth 28 bucks for anyone except hardcore fans (inevitably someone's going to come after me trying to say that Konstantine is perfect... don't believe them). The rest of the EP rehashes some of LTTW. My favorite track is the live performance of Straw Dog. Forget December is also pretty good but not great.

5 out of 5 stars The first star you've ever heard.......2005-06-04

The best reason to buy this CD is simple, it's "Konstantine". This song speaks for itself in more ways than I could ever describe. First, would have to be its' incredibly beautiful and inspired piano, courtesy of Andrew McMahon. Second, would be its' timeless and poetic lyrics that couldn't have been supported better by any other band, or any other voice (also courtesy of Andrew McMahon). Finally, would be its' breathtaking melodies that could bring any true musician or fan to their knees. "Konstantine" is perfect in every way, as perfect as each individual's flaws in the inspiring relationship. Any Something Corporate fan would agree. Essentially... only a true fan would feel that not only is it perfect, it is the most gorgeous song ever written.

5 out of 5 stars Great Band... Great CD .......2005-05-18

I have to say Something Corporate is my most favoritest band ever. And this CD proves it. Konstantine is also my favorite song. It's just perfect.
If you love this CD and Something Corporate.. I suggest you check out Jack's Mannequin. They are an awesome band lead by yours truely... Andrew McMahon. And if you like them too come join The Messengers... their street team and let other people know how wonderfull they are too.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Mighty Fine Record.......2007-05-24

This is a colourfully eclectic album that really showcases Frida's extraordinary vocals. It bursts out of the speakers with 'Tell Me It's Over': a short punchy rock song which gets straight to the point before lilting into the sublime 'I See Red' with it's dub overtones. 'To Turn The Stone' has aged but it is still an epic (and evidently must be good, since Donna Summer subsequently decided to record it after initially turning it down). There's nothing new to say about 'I Know There's Something Going On' - a fantastic song with a killer vocal delivery. The question only remains as to why this stalled at #43 in the UK. 'Threnody' and 'The Way You Do' are in turns beautifully wistful and playful songs and there aren't the words to describe her cover of 'You Know What I Mean'. It is celestial. The highlight, after IKTSGO, though has to be 'Baby Don't You Cry No More' with its light lounge blues. Perfectly pitched though mischievous.

There are not many singers who could carry this off. Frida does it with aplomb. An essential purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Gotta love Frida!.......2006-06-03

I am not going to compare this album with ABBA or Agnetha. What's the use? After (and before!) ABBA, both women made music quite different from the famous ABBA sound. I personally like Frida's voice and solo work over Agnetha's, but that's just my opinion. As for this album, it's nice, but not her best. Some of the songs I really love (I Know There's Something Going On, Threnody, The Way You Do)), but some I don't particularly enjoy (I Got Something, Here We'll Stay). But in all, it's a great document of the early '80 pop-sound. Frida's voice to me was, and still is, one of the finest in pop music!

5 out of 5 stars No second fiddle!.......2005-09-08

Frida has always been my favorite voice in ABBA. Could any voice sound as rich as she does in ABBA's "Knowing Me, Knowing You?"
There is not a single dud on this entire cd. She and producer Phil Collins picked from the hottest songwriters of the day. The Brian Ferry penned-song "The Way You Do" is flawless, as is the haunting, atmospheric "To Turn The Stone." Other highlights are the rocking "Tell Me It's Over" and folk-tinged "Threnody."
As far as the remaster goes, the sound quality is excellent. The bonus tracks in no way add to the total package. I never really cared for the solo version of "Here We'll Stay," the duet with Phil Collins on the original cd. It seems unpolished. The newly included radio/single edit of "I Know There's Something Going On" proves that there is nothing like the original. Some things are better left alone! I LOVE THIS SONG!I did hear an incredible dance remix of this classic track while at a club in London in 2004. It was approximately 10 minutes long and played up the guitars but had a super-fast computerized beat. Where is this version? It should have been included instead of the edit. Also, no review would be complete without mentioning the excellent jazz-influenced "Baby Don"t You Cry No More" and the touching ballad "You Know What I Mean."

I can honestly say that overall, this cd is slightly better than some ABBA cds, the exceptions being "Super Trouper," "The Album," and "Voulez-Vous," of course- all perfect. Buy this cd and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Remaster.......2005-06-04

This is a great remaster of her first post-ABBA album. The first thing I noticed about it was they didn't use the same version of 'Here We'll Stay', it's been slightly remixed from the original album version, but a great version none-the-less. The 'Solo' version of 'Here We'll Stay' sounds more like a demo than a single version...I think I read somewhere that it was released as a single...yuck! But I digress. The remaster is top notch and should not be overlooked. The single edit of 'I Know There's Something Going On' sounds ok, but you can tell it was transferred from digital to analog and back again for this remaster.
This is a great album and worth the cost just to get that 'extra' track of Frida singing solo on 'Here We'll Stay' for all Frida fans.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easy to listen to........2004-05-02

Good stuff, certainly more commercial and produced than the others. You can certainly listen to every song and not reach for the forward button... Best Weapon is a standout song. Those who like SFK will like it and those who don't know them or haven't fully got into previous albums should start here.

4 out of 5 stars Alternative Music with Sophistication.......2003-11-28

Aussie alternative band SFK is a prime example of self-development. Some artists have a way of keeping the same style throughout each album, but SFK is changing. In the beginning, with the album "Elsewhere for 8 Minutes", they were more rock. "Beautiful Sharks" was more commercial with a bit of experimentation, capturing attention with rock songs such as "Hallways" and the catchiness of "Electricity" (which has an excellent riff). "Echolalia" brought the most public attention, a very commercially friendly album that seems pretty much flawless. Now with "The Official Fiction", they've grown to add classy sophistication to their repertoire.

The differences between this and past albums are evident. While the commerciality isn't as frequent, "The Official Fiction" is nonetheless quite powerful and emotional, and is best played during a quiet night in. And to get the most out of this album, one should pay close attention to the lyrics, and SFK provides some of the best in the song-writing business of recent times.

A brilliant example of quality lyrics is "Best Weapon", clearly inspired by today's world. One can tell by the sinister tones in the opening bars that there is something disturbing going on. "His machines all agree, let's wind them up and march them out / History repeated and read out loud - this could be our best weapon now..." The second verse is even more powerful: "Stripes and suits pushing the numbers through / They treat them like they don't exist / And they count them up like they're matchsticks..." The lyrics are perfectly suited to the music, which has a haunting and emotional outro, with those two adjectives capable of pretty much summing up the entire album.

Another standout track is clearly "Letter to the Editor", upbeat and energetic enough to capture attention, with a brilliant riff in the verses. However, the true essence lies in the lyrics, which comment on the media's interpretation of life. "It's just information burned up, passed out, spun to your door..." is a prime example, as are the choruses. This is a very meaningful song, with other lyrics such as "and the choice of words is choose no words; say nothing, nothing at all" and "tell it like it is". This is a song to remember.

The first single released from this album was "Déjà Vu", certainly a change from the released singles of previous albums. This is a powerful, string-driven track with lyrics of coincidence. It's a haunting piece, and the strings truly bring the song to life, before it softens for the ending. A terrific version of it (though with the lyrics slightly altered) was performed at Australian music's night of nights (the ARIA Awards), complete with a string section, so it can be brilliant live as well.

"Song for a Sleepwalker" was the second released single, and tames the passionate fire created by the more powerful tracks. It's sweet, with a gentle lightness that makes it accessible for commercial purposes, and elicits smiles. However, like with SFK's other released singles, it didn't stay for very long in the top 20 singles in Australia.

Like "Echolalia", this album has a track best performed live. In this case, it's "Light at the End of the Tunnel", with an acoustic guitar, strings and light female background vocals. This is one for gigs.

"Max Planck" is solid, a smooth piece that holds something somewhat emotional in the verses. "Kaplan / Thornhill" isn't particularly a standout, with a swaying feeling, and string instruments playing a major part in the outro.

The only track that I personally don't think belongs on the album is "Reverse Soundtrack". It's a slow track, and the problem with slow tracks is that if they're not special then they seem like time-fillers. Unfortunately, it is the later that describes this song, and it's a disappointment.

The track positioning of the album shows that maybe this didn't go unnoticed, and so it seems as though attempts to make up for it are done with the following tracks. "Coldwater Canyon" is lightly upbeat about getting "out of this still life", reasonably catchy. The last minute consists of strings only, but they are slower, and so I'm not quite sure if they fit in with the rest of the song. Meanwhile, "Souvenir" sounds as if it was written back in earlier years of the band, around the time of "Elsewhere for 8 Minutes", perhaps, as it is upbeat, lively and catchy soft-rock, its best line being "it's all money over mind over matter over miles of nothing, nothing here".

One of my personal favourite tracks is "Moving Right Along", which is the blessed feel-good track of the album. This is the song to hug - it's lovely, lively and cuddly, and you just have to adore it. The lyrics are about a friend never falling in times of trouble: "They thought you'd falter, they thought you'd fail / But I knew better - you were just setting sail / And you were moving right along..."

"Asleep at the Wheel" goes back to slightly haunting soft-rock, with a snappy riff and interesting lyrics in the chorus - "This is how we come and go, with ghosts for memories and memories for ghosts..." And the final track, "No Man's Land", has its opening bars and verses similar to the band's earlier work, but the chorus sounds similar to "Déjà Vu". It's nice, though not particularly outstanding, with good writing, but it doesn't feel individual enough.

Overall, "The Official Fiction" is powerful, sophisticated music, but lacks stability of strength. "Reverse Soundtrack" bogs down the album, and the next three songs seem to try to compensate for that. The first half is - for the most part - serious and dramatic, while the other half is lighter, so maybe this could be better equalised by mixing up the track order. The album could be viewed as an acquired taste overall, but it's a must-have for fans. Newcomers to the band's listeners may prefer to start off with "Echolalia" or "Beautiful Sharks", but it really depends on what they're after.

    Erin Horgan, http://thenorthernsound.cjb.net

4 out of 5 stars The Official Fiction.......2003-11-18

Seriously, when I first listened to Echolalia, I hated it. It depressed me. However, I went to see SFK live, whilst they were promoting music from Official Fiction, and soon bought Official Fiction when it hit the shelves.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised...and quickly converted. Official Fiction is of a much more mellow, acoustic feel than SFK's previous albums. The band have really cut down on their sound, so that Paul Dempsey's voice does not have to compete with ten chords. The music is also more accessible, with...dare I say...some "poppy" ballads such as "Song for a Sleepwalker".
Fortunately, for true SFK fans, the band has not completely abandoned their roots. Lyrics are still just as complex. Rhythm and melodies still just as unpredictable. I can't say what the highlights are...each song appeals to me in a different way.
    A commendable album.

5 out of 5 stars the official fiction.......2003-10-24

being a good sized SFK fan, of course i had some (just a few) expectations when it came to the new record. i had heard some of the songs before the record came out and liked them, was interested to see how how they came out in the album.

when i finally recieved my copy of the record and listened to it the entire way through, all my expectations were not only met, but surpassed by a thousand.

this record is quite possibly the best thing this band has every done. From the opening track, "Max Planck", to the closing track "No Man's Land", you are taken through a whirlwhind of thought and emotion, making your brain soar into places you didn't know possible.

The sound quality of this band is such to where i cannot even describe.. it cannot be met. whether live or on disc, it completely encapsulates you and stays in the back of your mind. Paul Dempsey's voice articulates exactly what he's singing; his lyrics are straight out front honest, and just when you think you've got them figured out, you find another way to look at them which leaves you mystified.

"The Official Fiction" is a must for anyone who appreciates good music on any level. There are no highlights to name, the whole record really is that good.

make no bones about it. Something for Kate are, quite possibly, one of the best groups of our time.

Cliff Richard is a UK icon that is relatively unknown in the USA. "Somethin' Is Goin' On" is a upbeat, high tempo number that should chart well. It is an almost anthemic love song fit for any age group. The B-Side (as it is called) is a David English/Barry Gibb collaboration that suits Mr. Richard well with it's breezy, wistful arrangement. It's almost a children's ballad. Gibb sings backup as well. The video is nice but just enhances the song in the usual commercial manner.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Bonus track also available on Willie Nelson album.......2002-09-04

This album is more pop-sounding than anything Lee Ann has done before, but it's still a classy album which is highly entertaing.

The bonus track on this UK edition is Mendocino county line, a stunning duet with Willie Nelson which has already been made available on one of his albums, The Great Divide. For approximately the same price as that quoted for this import, you could buy both the standard version of this CD and The Great Divide.

The remainder of this review is a copy of my review of the main album.

Lee Ann has recorded her most pop-sounding album yet, but it's brilliant. Lee Ann deserves to take most of her old fans with her. She will certainly lose some, but she will gain more than she loses, just as Dolly, Reba and others did when they followed a similar career path.

Perhaps the hightlight for me is Talk to me, a passionate plea to gain a better understanding of each other. When Lee Ann pleads for you to find the words that you feel because understanding is forgiving, it makes you want to do just that, and it's so true.

Two of the most unusual songs here are Forever everyday, which appears to be a song about re-incarnation, and Orphan train, written by Julie Miller, the true meaning of which I've yet to work out properly.

Elsewhere on this album, Lee Ann demonstrates her ability to sing everything from romantic songs to uptempo rockers, and the whole makes for a very satisfying listening experience.

Nobody should buy this expecting it to be like Lee Ann's other albums. Lee Ann clearly wants to be around for a while yet, and will no doubt return to a more traditional sound when the time is right, just as Dolly has already done. In the meantime, enjoy this album for what it is - contemporary pop-country of the highest quality.
