5 out of 5 stars So hard to find in stores, but the Best ANOTHERLATENIGHT compilation........2006-08-18

This is my favorite CD. I bought it in france about 4 or 5 yrs ago and accidently misplaced it. I then couldn't find it in any stores and even Itunes didn't have it. :(
Thanks to Amazon for shipping me the best electro Trip-hop any has ever made.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Urban Sound.......2006-04-27

I couldn't disagree more with the review below. The title reads literally. This is another late night and the dudes put together this incredible collection of modern music, unlike anything I've heard. I would never ever in 1000 years compare Zero7 with Snow Patrol, who is also a favorite band of mine. I would not label the middle part as "triphop" . It's URBAN music, ANOTHER LATE NIGHT. I love it.

2 out of 5 stars Mixed mixes.......2005-10-04

Zero 7 has mixed results in their "favorites" compulation, a part of the "Another Late Night" series. Compiled here are several excellent trip-hop tunes, and several similarly good hip-hop tunes. Unfortunately, the two are mashed together in a none-too-pleasant manner.

It starts off on a suitably mellow note with Yesterday's New Quintet, and all seems to be going well for a short time. Then the Quasimoto "Real Eyes" comes in. Don't get me wrong -- it's a wonderful song, and an excellent musical choice. But placed directly after the laid-back trippiness of Quintet's "Sunrays," it comes across as surreally harsh.

After that comes a stretch of more gritty hip-hop, followed by some tripped-out jazz and mellow Joy Zippers, and... more hip-hop, sprinkled with electronica here and there. It ends on a softer note with a trippy cover by the Stylistics, and a song by Zero 7 themselves.

Unlike bands like Snow Patrol and the Flaming Lips, don't expect Zero 7's mix CD to be full of music that shaped their sound. Because there's very little resemblance between, say, Quasimoto and Zero 7's sounds. Both are enjoyable, but there's literally no resemblance at all.

But the problem with Zero 7's "Another Late Night" is not so much the songs selected, but the way they are presented. It seems like Zero 7 simply chose a bunch of songs they liked, and tossed them onto a CD willy-nilly. As a result, they lurch from one musical style to another, and none of the songs flatter one another.

Had the assorted songs been rearranged, Zero 7's entry in the "Another Late Night" series could have been excellent listening. As it is, it's an uncomfortable tangle of different musical styles.

Amazon.com

Given the success of their own groove-laden approach, Rae & Christian are the most obvious choices so far for contributors to the Anotherlatenight series. As they have previously collaborated with the likes of soul legend Bobby Womack, it's little surprise that vintage funk is their main focus. Starting with the imposing horns of Trendsetter's "Heavy Worker," every move from sleazy disco (Joshua's "Come On") to Latin boogaloos (Aromadozeski Therapy's "Strudel Strut") via easy downtempo (Riton's "Put That On My Momma") and high-tech electro (Mr. Scruff's mix of Capoeira Twins' "Four") is covered with panache. It all rounds up in a glorious climax, as flamenco guitarist Jose Feliciano picks his way through an aching cover of the Mamas and the Papas classic "California Dreaming." With so much funk and so many breakbeats on display, this third installment of Anotherlatenight is as much a gift to disillusioned hip-hop heads as it is dance-floor-weary clubbers in search of something stylish to unwind to. Low-slung and willfully eclectic, it's also every inch a Rae & Christian album. --Dan Gennoe

4 out of 5 stars Aptly titled "Anotherlatenight".......2004-08-22

Fancy yourself a hipster? then plug this into your sound system and let your hips do the talkin'. Rhythms that shake your soul and transcend "dullism" to "Vivaism"... gather the "it" crowd, throw back a few quenchers "and get it ON"... no club cravings here! the place to be is your place if you have this CD.

Rae & Christian blend this album "magically" taking you on a mind expanding journey of 'hip, trip and old school infused tracks', it has enough "housee" beats to keep the tempo away from loungin' until "suggestively" the bed comes a callin' or the hormones come a knockin'

Check it out! All you "city lovin' hipsters"

5 out of 5 stars Real downtempo chill out music.......2003-01-28

I'll make it simple. You want cool beats, something you can easily swing your hips to or keep your head bobbing... this is it. I play it in my car and just cruise. After a long night out at the clubs, it's great for the drive home or for when you get back and you can't sleep yet. Chills you out, relaxes you, but definitely keeps your interest with a great selection of songs. You can tell they really planned out the progression because it's a little more uptempo towards the beginning but slowly chills out towards the end, leaving you with a good, relaxed feeling.

5 out of 5 stars nice!.......2002-11-01

like the reviewer who is probably above me said, i think i am a better person for having listened to this album. oh my god. i just downloaded this (tsk tsk)and have just listened to it 3 times straight. i am now on my way to buy this album and support these artists. this is no joke one of the most beautiful pieces of music i've ever heard assembled. MY GOD the california dreaming version on this album is so fantastic. please do your life a favor and purchase this cd. it's so very very very beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars This album is amazing...........2002-06-20

Simply put, this album is ridiculously good. As mentioned by the above review, I can't even count how many people have heard me playing this album and asked me "Who IS this?" It's amazing. Get it, and once you've digested and become completely addicted, check out their latest release/resissue "Mixer Presents: Rewind." Equally as enthralling and mind blowing. What would I do without Rae and Christian...?

    5 out of 5 stars Can't get any better!.......2005-06-03

Groove Armada has done it again! This series just keeps on getting better, It's really down and up and down, like rollercoaster of musical sounds. When I first heard it I really liked it, and then it grew on me. Just buy it!!!

5 out of 5 stars they deliver, again.......2004-10-04

This duo never lets me down. Among the many nondescript DJs and wannabe trip hop/deep house stylists, these two seem to have a unique savvy for blending beats and choosing timeless tracks which having been flavoured distinctly to the GA.

4 out of 5 stars Different moods on different listenings.......2004-03-19

This could almost be called 'Back to Mine' Volume 2 as it does have a very similar feel to Groove Armada's compilation for that series. However, I find this compilation much more diverse and multi layered. On first listening this disc doesn't have the seamless flow of the 'Back to Mine' set and almost seems to take you through many mood swings instead of settling you into a nice groove like many chill sets do. However, on repeated listenings I find this actually to be the strength of the disc as it successfully manages to mix several moods and several styles.

The boys own version of 'Fly Me To The Moon' starts the set with the cool lounge style associated with Groove Armada but the disc then gradually assumes a more funk laden style with The Memory by Roy Ayers and Grace Jones' Don't Cry It's Only Rhythm being stand outs. The Shuggie Otis version of Stawberry Letter 23 is amazing and with other artists such as Aretha and Al Green it is almost impossible not to succeed.

Overall, a disc that gets better and better with repeated listenings and a disc I find suits many moods whilst still maintaining an overall coherency.

5 out of 5 stars Very Fine for a genre I usaully avoid........2003-07-24

As I said I usaully avoid this type of genre but Groove Armada has given us a very fine cd of good if not great listening quality. Many surprises along the way include Grace Jones,Roy Ayers, Jeru the Damager, Aretha Franklin just to name a few. The usuall house and disco tunes fill out very nicely and the whole cd works for me although I usually don't even listen to many of the "house" and "disco" artist on this cd. Do not fear the music, it's all good.

3 out of 5 stars If you like the "N" word......be my guest.................2003-03-29

No, that's overly harsh. I like this CD. Three stars is my second highest review. Although I don't think it will go on my top shelf, I'm not going to dump it either. Damn me with faint praise you say...... I guess that I bought this CD without really knowing what I was getting.....but it worked out OK. I have a feeling, as I often do, that this CD will grow on me overtime (think about three years :) ). On the plus side, this CD has a jazz club feel to it to the point that you can alomost smell the stale smoke and hear the clink of ice cubes as the bartender pours another drink. There are odd sounds like someone bumping the mike during some songs that adds some reality to the music. However, there are a couple of songs that I could live without (track 15 for one). What happened to letting people know about explicit lyrics?? Track 19......what's this [*]-five minutes of some Sherlock Holmes soundin jackass mumbling under his mustache? But, I guess that's to be expected with 19 songs. Tracks 2,3,9,10, and 11 are real upbeat and best suited for working out (think world aerobics championships). I loved hearing Al Green, Areatha, and the rendition of strawberry 23....those songs are good. Overall, I like the CD but buy it used if you can.

Tommy guerrero's music is full of good vibes. It's nice to hear some of his influences. I only wish he would have done a samba version of "paperhouse".

5 out of 5 stars Great choices = Great compilation.......2004-08-25

You need this disc in your collection. One of the greatest compilations out there; certainly the best of the `AnotherLateNight' series.

Old-school skateboarding hero turned down-tempo music maker/guitarist Tommy Guerrero really exposes much of his influences on this tasty collection. Classic blues, funk, soul & rock selections make this `Late Night' a very warm experience and overall, an extremely enjoyable listen. Standouts include Muddy Waters `Tomcat', Main Ingredient `Euphrates', and the incredible `Is it Because I'm Black' by the great Syl Johnson.

I stumbled across this disc over a year ago, and I probably listen to it even more now than before. Fans of music: do your ears, heart, & soul a favor.. pick this one up. Highly recommended.

I hardly ever write reviews but I was astonished when I found out this album has none. So here is mine: buy it. As far as I am concerned, this is the best cd of the Another Late Night series. Tarantino vibes and beyond. Return it to me if you don't like it.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Stay up "Late".......2005-04-17

French downtempo master pays Kid Loco tribute to some outstanding influential music, in his addition to the "Another Late Night" series. Loco's mix CD is a wonderful, colorful collection of everything from French acid hip-hop to wild electronica.

Most of these groups are extremely obscure, or at the very least not well known. But Kid Loco starts off with three of the best songs: the Baby Namboos's dark, sultry remix, the tribal-rhythms-and-brass jazz of Herbaliser, and the mellow Gabor Szabo. They aren't even the same type of music, but they flow together as easily as if done by one band/artist.

A brief rock'n'roll interlude follows, but soon it's back to DJ-land. Among the exceptional songs on here is stuff by the funky-trippy-hip-hoppy-jazzy-downtempo Aim, the rippling Departure Lounge, jazzy Underwolves, the bluesy rock of Harvey Mandel, and the babbling monologue of "Street Preacher" by the Troublemakers.

Not a lot of people -- even musicians -- know about bands like the Troublemakers or the Baby Namboos, both of which I am very fond. But when listening to them, it becomes pretty obvious why Kid Loco likes them, and even how they may have influenced his own style.

The music included on here tends to be much like Kid Loco's own stuff: It's complex, layered, usually either electronic or tinged with it, and very offbeat. As a result, it feels like they are all loosely strung together. And they actually seem to flow into one another, with musical styles ranging from jazz to funk to acid hip-hop to pure electronica to psychedelic rock'n'roll.

Obscure tastes rule in Kid Loco's "Another Late Night," which can serve as a blueprint for cool electronic music. Not to mention a sign that this downtempo maestro has excellent taste.

1 out of 5 stars Did musical genius kid loco REALLY put his name to this?.......2004-06-15

having heard a grand love story and his dj kicks i was SEVERELY disappointed with this CD. can it be true that such a mastermind as kid loco really had anything to do with this album? why are there vocals? where are the off-the-wall and bizarre tracks i love him for? is there a whole other kid loco that i have just never heard of? almost every track grated on my hearing.

in a nutshell - if you, like me, thought his dj kicks was absolutely amazing, then DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY THIS CD.

5 out of 5 stars why cant this guy stop being good!.......2003-09-21

I never really hear of kid loco till about 6-7 months ago until i heard his remix of tracy by mogwai. After that i started to listen to some other of his cds like late night tales.etc. After this i realised that he is the best person i have ever listened to and now this album is out kid loco will never stop being good. Even though all his songs are amazing i would have to say that his remix of tracy by mogwai is my favourite. kid loco is brilliant and will always be brilliant as long as he keeps doing wat he is doin now and thats killing it.

    5 out of 5 stars He's done it again!.......2003-08-06

I have bought several releases by kid loco, and rarely have I been dissapointed. This new and 6th volume in the anotherlatenight series is another fine gem. Although I'm only familar with some of the artist on this mix cd kid loco has brought out only the best and some of the funkiest beats I've heard in while. I heard "Kill your Darlings" and wasn't impressed, but he seems to have made a nice recovery with this mix. From Gabo Zabor, the Herbalizer,Baby Namboos,Aim,to the unexpected John Lucien the music flows smoothly with few glicthes if any. Solid listening and a good buy.

5 out of 5 stars Much better than the last release........2003-07-29

I bought and listened to "kill your darlings", and said to myself this was not great music. Since then I've been looking for better from kid loco and I believe this mix does the job nicely. Kid Loco seems to be at his best when he can just mix what he feels goes together, without reguard to genre or style. Just good music, daring music, music that doesn't allow one to just put on the radio and let it blare. Here we start with Jazz guitarist Gabor Zabor, the Herbaliser, Tommy Hools, Stratus, and eventually wind up with a familar to older generations, John Lucien. Inbetween we meet DJ Crystal, Up,Bustle, and Out, a visit from Baby Namboos and Departure Lounge make up just a little of a "swingin eclectic mix"(see if you can get around that). I enjoy this offering from Kid Loco because it finds him at his best, focused and sounding great.

It is a very special album in my collection. I would say it does fit better with my classical rock collection then it fits my electronica collection. I would call it a hippy type music album. Lots of instruments, nice and insightful and not annoying vocals, some very strange melodies :) If you appreciate high quality music you will really appreciate it. Try to listen to those song samples that a provided by the www.Amazon.com before you buy, if you like those you will like the album.
