1 out of 5 stars turned off!.......2007-01-15

Bought this CD after reading the rave reviews. Not what I look for in music. This group seems to be more about sex appeal than music. More about production than real music--one can barely notice that there is a string quartet playing. Could only stand to listen to this once-could find nothing of interest. One heck of a photo shoot, though. SOmeone must have had a field day with that. This CD seems to be more for the sake of some sexy pictures than its music. A real turn-off.

5 out of 5 stars Bond Shines Another Day.......2006-06-11

Fans only had to wait two years for Bond to punch out another Classical/Pop/Dance album. The finished product is some of the string quartet's best work. With the return of violins, a viola, and a cello, these instruments provided the basis of Bond's Classical music sound. But to acheive the full sound of Bond, the electronic instrumention for Pop/Dance music returned as well. This time around, Bond dove further into the Classical genre and arranged pieces to match their own sound. With a name like Bond, the string quartet also performed their version of a James Bond Theme entitled "Bond On Bond", and it landed them a spot to the score and soundtrack for the film The World Is Not Enough. With the release of this remarkable record, it was clear that Bond and their new form of Classical music would not diminish.

Stand out tracks include:
"Allegretto"
"Shine"
"Fuego"
"Speed"
"Gypsy Rhapsady"
"Bond On Bond"

5 out of 5 stars A Good Band.......2006-01-05

It is a good party music. All are very talented individuals. Everyone has their own taste of music, and Bond is mine.

5 out of 5 stars Shine On!.......2005-06-02

This is the album that I really liked. Although I downloaded it, I also play this one nonstop. I love the whole CD, and that's rare for me!

The album is liked so much in my house that my mother and father take it from me--and I recently had to make copies of the CD so they can play their own!

"Shine" is a great addition to your collection if you love Bond, no doubt about it.

Read my review of Lara St. John's "Re: Bach" album and substitute "Bond" where it says "Lara St. John."

5 out of 5 stars it's a funny thing..........2007-03-12

I was never really a Journey fan. Maybe I was already too old by then. I knew even then, though, that they were much better -with- Steve Perry than they had been before him. But they were corny to me, and their sound, (which, in their case, may have been original), was so overdone in the 80s that I simply had my full almost immediately. As far as Perry himself, well, (besides holding Journey against him), I felt as though Sam Cook and Rod Stewert were more my style within that vocal approach. HOLD ON. I guess I'm a slow learner, maybe I just didn't want to follow a teeny-bopper trend, but Perry is sounding whole lot better to me. Rod's been sucking lately, and I've accepted that Sam is never coming back, and , gosh, it turns out the Steve is one of the greatest singers ever! Definitely the classic-rock all-time hero. So in tune, amazing range , great tone, much emotion, perfect phrasing., and technique that never overrides the song's intention. I'm gonna admit that I was 100% wrong on this one. This would be one of the few rock shows I would buy a ticket for.

4 out of 5 stars I did not like this album when it first came out in '94..........2007-03-10

Repeat. I did not like "Strange Medicine" when it came out in '94.

However, I was in for a big shock with this reissue. I initially bought this just for the picture booklet, which contains many good pics of Perry from the FTLOSM promo shoots; it's a worthy, wonderful companion to the CD. But the shock? Perry remastered the album. As in, "remixed it". As in, CHANGED IT.

Holy crap, I like it.

I'm listening to it now. The mix sounds much better than the original (listen to the intro to "You Better Wait", and you'll see immediately what I mean). The instruments are more balanced, the sound is clearer & cleaner. I'm digging it all over again, and it wasn't on my top list of favorite albums to start. Just for the remastering, this album is well worth the cost for Journey & Perry fans.

On the extra tracks, I disagree with the previous reviewer on one point. The extra tracks are a mixed bag; the live "Missing You" was initially aired for the Steve Perry Fan Club fans over the fan club's hotline; it's a serviceable performance, but not really Perry's best. "If You Need Me, Call Me" and "One More Time" were initially released as extra tracks to the singles from the original release of FTLOSM -- if you haven't heard them before, they are wonderful tracks that showcase Perry in two completely different vocal moods and make the most of his vocal gymnastic stylistics.

"Can't Stop", though, is junk. On the surface, the song is Perry trying to sing raunchy sex to a lover ("trying" is a very apt word, here). However, it's not blues scatting -- if that's what Perry was trying for, he fails miserably. The vocals suck -- what vocals there are. No grown man I know would use the word "coochie-coo" seriously in any sexual situation -- at least, use it and not get laughed out of the bedroom. The lyrics would fit into any fanfic pr0n in any fandom, and show about the same level of writing. The song is a sop to what Perry thinks his female fans want -- unfortunately, it sounds as if he took the worst of fanfic pr0n as his cue. It's cutesy euphemistic crap that ignores honest, raw sexuality and substitutes crappy, uninspired vocals for true emotional edge.

When we reach a point where Steve Perry is writing his own pr0n, armageddon can't be far behind.

5 out of 5 stars Wrapping up the past, or a preview of the future?.......2006-11-02

Steve Perry has been behind the Reissues this past year with the Journey CDs and his solo material. Most included bonus tracks, and For The Love Of Strange Medicine is no different. The CD itself sounds incredible. The static that was in the background mildly on the original 1994 release is gone, and the original tracks have been remixed with today's technology. This remixing gives them an absolutely brilliant sound. There are even a few added parts to a couple numbers that sound great as well. Since this CD has never been previously remastered, it gets a new face lift with this release and shines. It truly is a testament, though, to the perfectionism of Steve Perry. He knows the sound he's looking for and finds the way to get it.

The most obvious thing about this release, though, is the bonus tracks; two of which have never before been released. "If You Need Me (Call Me) and "One More Time" were released with the singles that came out with the original Strange Medicine release, along with several other songs that reappeared with the Greatest Hits release. The first unreleased track is "Can't Stop." It is an interesting track, to say the least, and gives you a look at a side of Perry that hasn't been heard often. It's a bluesy track with some scat from The Voice, and some lyrics that are unusual for Perry in that they don't deal with the ordinary subject matter of his songs. His traditional vocal patterns aren't on this track either, making it even more unique. It's a song you almost have to develop a liking for. The second unreleased track is "Friends of Mine," which any Perry fan will like. It's a fun song that is classic Perry at his best, including the long, soaring high notes and the vocal patterns that made the man famous. This track sounds as if it belongs on this CD, and is one of my personal new favorites. These two songs, as the CD's booklet will tell you, were originally recorded for Perry's yet-to-be-released album "Against the Wall" from a 1988 recording session. The final track is a live recording of "Missing You" from his tour of Strange Medicine that has been floating around on download forums and programs for years. It's a rare glimpse of his last outing as a performer.

Finally, one of the last reasons to get this album, even if you already have it, is the accompanying booklet. Not only does it contain the usual (acknowledgments, song list with musicians and writers) but also many photos, some unreleased, from the photo shoot for the album and the tour. It also contains all the tour dates, where and when they were performed. Lastly, to open up the booklet, a note from Steve Perry himself re-introducing the album to you.

I would highly recommend this album reissue. I know there are many who don't like the reissues of the Journey albums, and that I can understand, but this album has never been re-released and sounds great. The bonus tracks and booklet alone should be enough to get the die-hard fans to buy this, but I would also recommend it to anyone who likes Steve Perry in general, the casual fan, or lovers of great music. This is one singer that has had a spectacular career in music, has been on the top, and is now living the life he has earned. The one thing that puzzles me about this release, though, is the timing. Lately, Perry has been reissuing a lot of things from his past. The Journey Music Video DVD, the Houston Concert Collector's Set, and now the reissuing of his entire recorded catalog. He's also made a couple appearances on other musicians' CDs (Jeff Golub and David Pack). What confuses me is the title question: Is Steve Perry wrapping up his career? Tying up the loose ends and saying good-bye to his fans? Or is he staying behind the scenes, waiting...slowly working his way into the public eye again in preparation for one more outing? Only time will tell. If you are a fan of this man, though, I would recommend picking this one up if you are able to. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The best album of its kind that I know of........1999-03-20

I discovered this album as a teenager and immediately fell in love with it. As things happen, somewhere along the way I lost the recording. Over the years, as the mood dictated, I happily recalled the melodies contained on this recording. I've even searched for it on those occasions when I found myself in a well stocked music store -- to no avail. Happily, Amazon.com found it for me.

The harmonizing between Peaches and Herb is exquisite. As I listened to the clips, the old feelings returned from across the years. No other love songs come close to United, For Your Love or The Ten Commandments of Love. Do yourself a favor, buy this album and listen to it with someone you love.

Love him or hate him, Nigel Kennedy can play a mean fiddle. And on Riders on the Storm: The Doors Concerto, the violinist, arranger Jaz Coleman, and the Prague Symphony Orchestra pay energetic tribute to--who else?--the Doors. These instrumental string arrangements try their damnedest to avoid becoming elevator-music covers, but they only vaguely resemble the Doors' originals. The violinist loves a jam, and these arrangements thankfully give him plenty of room to solo. The longer tracks--"Light My Fire" and "The End"--work best, with Kennedy offering inspired playing and plenty of drama. Doors fans may be interested in hearing fresh takes on their favorite tunes ("Riders on the Storm," "Light My Fire," "The Unknown Soldier," and more), but those accustomed to Kennedy's more classical endeavors may be disappointed. Oddly enough, the living members of the Doors have nothing but great things to say about this disc. Strange days, indeed. --Jason Verlinde

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "Concerto" says everything.......2006-12-19

This is a very well executed adaptation of Doors music into classic. I also own the fantastic George Winston's "Night Divides the Day", and I could say both CDs, even though different in it's category, perform a fantastic tribute to The Doors. But this is not a CD for "The Doors" fans, as it is more directed to Classical lovers. You will find very interesting versions of: Spanish Caravan & The Crystal Ship

5 out of 5 stars The Vietnam Concerto.......2006-11-05

I really love this album. To me, it evokes all the tragedy and sadness of the Vietnam war. Every time I listen to it, I feel very moved. Kennedy is an inspired violinist, and his instrument fairly weeps at times. So, if you are a baby-boomer like me, you may really respond to music that captures the times in which the Doors wrote and sang.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting music - haunting and beautiful.......2006-01-07

As a music guy, I can listen to classical and then go to rap and appreciate both.

As I really like the Doors, I saw this CD and recognizing what Jaz Coleman did with Led Zeppelin, I bought this CD.

It is not much like the LeZeppelin effort. However, both are equally beautiful. The LZ disc sounded like a movie soundtrack. Here the music sounds like a sad concerto.

Truly, I was struck by the sadness in the music. It is powerful though, and the arrangements strike the right chord (terrible pun - sorry) between being exactly similar to the Doors music, and a fresh interpretation.

Should you buy this disc? Well, if you enjoy classical music and you are not a snob - then yes. This disc may get you to enjoy some contemporary music in a vital interpretation. If you are a Doors fan, I would think you would enjoy hearing your favorite songs being played in a new way.

Overall, I believe this is an interesting disc to own. Well worth it. It is and does stand within my classical collection. It ain't Horowitz, but it sure is sweet!!

1 out of 5 stars Sorry..........2005-09-08

Sorry this review is short, but this album was terrible. The members have talent, but the songs bare no resemblance to Doors songs what-so-ever. I have found this at every library in the city of Kootenai County in Idaho, so you should try your local library. Really bad CD. For more details, e-mail me at moviefreak144@hotmail.com

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Smart.......2005-08-22

If any rock group deserved to be recorded in classical arrangements it would be The Doors. This could have been thrown together haphazardly to make a quick buck like some classical rock recordings but thankfully it hasn't. A lot of work was put into this. The Doors were much more musical and clever than many rocks bands. Jim Morrison was an extremely dynamic and sensitive vocalist and Nigel Kennedy pays complete homage to him. There is nothing but utter respect for The Doors music here. They chose some of the best musical Doors songs but I wish they would have included The Crystal Ship with maybe a soft piano solo. I think "Crystal Ship" was Ray Manzarek's most creative work. These are very, very deep orchestrations and the feelings of the original songs are preserved throughout (although I had trouble with "Unknown Soldier" and "People are Strange"). You will hear new things every time you listen to it. The diversions in each piece are true to the original songs. Jim Morrison's melodies are eerily mimicked on many instruments and you can hear Jim's beauty and wonderful phrasing. "Spanish Caravan" features a very competent classical guitarist and the melody played by an extremely sensitive violinist. My favorite song on this recording "Love Street" (allegedly written for the street which Jim and Pamela Courson lived in Lauryl Canyon) is double the length of the original song, a very, very emotional, very beautiful and haunting composition. If one song could summarize Jim and Pam's relationship and their sad and tragic lives it would be this song. During "Love Street" one can envision Jim and Pam in an eternal embrace. The spirit of "Light my Fire" comes shining through, if not maybe a little too bouncy and campy and not soft enough. The violas play the left-hand organ accompanyment and there is plenty of counterpoint. I didn't quite understand "People are Strange". It is turned into a romantic and galloping song whereas the original song was quite odd and spacey with shifting vocal effects. I had the most trouble with "Unkown Soldier", it's highly romanticized and I didn't recognize it. Likewise, "Strange Days" is drawn out and romanticized with harps, etc. The End is extremely well done, the eastern modality gives you the sense of a caravan on an endless trek through the Sahara desert. The recording mix is perfect: the lead violinist or any of the other soloists are not sharp or favored in the least. I only wish this was a double CD and included other emotional songs like Queen of the Highway, Hyacinth House, Wild Child, Love Her Madly, LA Woman, Blue Sunday, Wishful Sinful, Unhappy Girl, The Soft Parade and definitely Moonlight Drive and The Crystal Ship. Ray Manzarek (and Robby/John) should be very proud of what Nigel Kennedy has done. I think Jim would be proud, too. You do not have to be a classical music lover to enjoy this recording, you will understand most of these songs. This is an absolutely wonderful CD to sit down and relax to. Thank you very much Nigel and Ray, please record more Doors!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best.......2004-11-28

Saw Paul Thorn at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and knew that I had to buy this man's albums. Bought three, but this is the most awesome album of all. Think he needs more angst in his life now to continue to create this same caliber of music. He is alternately angry in love, then sorrowful with love. The best tracks on the album are "Ain't love strange", "Burn down the trailer park"-a scary song but hilarious, "Fabio & Liberace",a tale of unusual attraction......I love this car, and "Where was I"...when you stopped loving me. Both rocking, bluesy, this man can sing if nothing else. Buy and you will not regret. I took this to work where the people I work with never heard nor had interest in this type of music and all wanted to know where to buy a copy.

5 out of 5 stars Cold Iced Tea And A Piece Of Pie.......2004-09-21

I think Paul Thorn is a hugely talented guy, and of all his albums, this is my favorite. Paul is known for oddball, quirky songs that are straightforward yet twisted. This CD, more than his others, shows his inner personality as a bit of a refined rebel, not afraid to gently mock situations that most songwriters would steer well clear of.

Of all the songs on the CD, my easy favorite (in fact my favorite Thorn song of all time) is "Burn Down the Trailer Park" a hilarious yet powerful tale of infidelity with the landlord involving not only home repairs but light refreshments. His ability to set the audience up for one rhyme scheme, then deliver another much funnier punch line ("grass" does not rhyme with "pie") all in the midst of an electrifying performance is delightful, and is not fully appreciated until you have seen him in concert. I most recently saw him open for Mark Knopfler, and the crowd roared with laughter throughout this song. Not only is he a great musician, he is a great showman, and I strongly recommend seeing him in concert if you have the opportunity.

This CD is full of pop, rock, country, blues, and comedy, and should not be missed. It genuinely is one of the rare CDs that I play with great regularity. Buy this one today, you will not be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Undiscovered and Unbelievable.......2003-10-22

I have been listening to, "Aint Love Strange," for about 3 months along with, "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand." This is a true talent that has largely been undiscovered. One whose beautiful and simple phrasing along with equally simply but poignently-perfect melodies create such an incredible musical combination. Whether happy, sad, amused or beguiled, the listener is going to come away from this album emotionally involved and wanting to hear more.

Among the most accessable and evocative songs on the album, "Where Was I," and "I have a good day," are must listens for anyone. And, the sense of humor on "Burn down the trailer park," and "Ain't Love Strange," are just terrific.

In all, this is one great album from one great artist. If you haven't heard of him, take my advice and take a listen.

5 out of 5 stars AIN'T THIS GREAT?.......2003-10-13

This ex-boxer picked up a guitar & a pen & has added some great songs into the world. He's soulful, funky, funny & smart with a little a dash of alt-country & blues. Every song is well crafted (one exception is track #2 - its just ok). If you dig Wilco, Steve Earle, Mellencamp, Lucinda Williams & Bonnie Raitt pop this one into your player. I dare you not to smile & tap your foot!!!

5 out of 5 stars Paul Thorn a Giant.......2002-10-24

Paul Thorn is a giant talent. He writes and performs with a clarity the is rare in this day and age. His work touches all the emotions in both a down to earth and poetic way. This is that rare album that you will play again and again. Buy this album!!

5 out of 5 stars Classic album from the 80's.......2006-06-28

The quality of this album is too good to put into words. It is an all time classic that blew me away when I heard it first back in the 80's, and it's impact has never left me. The music is perfect for me - going from upbeat guitar edged numbers such as "Halleluiah Man", "Strange kind of Love" and "Razors Edge" to more moody easier going rifts on "Inflammable" and "Shape of Things to Come". James Grant's vocals on all the tracks are fantastic, and the way his vocals and the music comes together on them are ingenius. I particularly love the start of "Strange Kind of Love" - the synth cords and easy guitar/bass/vocal combo always gets my goosebumps going! The lyrics are also quite poignant, with "Jocelyn Square" and "Shape of Things to Come" being two of my particular favorites for this. I bought the album on Vinyl back in the days when CDs were just emerging, but found myself woefully missing it when I retired my record player a few years back. After finally pulling my finger out, I bought a CD copy from Amazon a few days back and have not looked back since. I'm in heaven again! If it sounds up your street, buy it, put it on a quality music system, turn the volume up and join me in heaven!

5 out of 5 stars Their best album for me.......2005-10-03

Wonderful work of love and money kinda funky at times but very pop.

5 out of 5 stars Unfortunately WASN'T The Shape of Things to Come.......2004-12-06

Way back in the day, I bought L&M's first album All You Need Is... on the basis of Candybar Express. It was a cool album, so I kept my eyes open for a second album. After what seemed like years (and probably was), I heard Halleleuiah Man on the radio. The DJ didn't say who it was, but the vocals were unmistakably James Grant's. And what an excellent song it was - tight, upbeat, and powerful. Like something you could imagine Simple Minds doing in their 'Live in the City of Light' period (if Jim Kerr was as good a lyricist as James Grant). I knew the album the single came from would be astounding, and rushed out to buy it the day it was released.

I wasn't disappointed, although the album was a lot more subdued, for the most part, and didn't carry the same groove and swagger of Halleleuiah Man throughout. But it does contain some of my favorite songs of all time. My absolute favorite is Shape of Things To Come, which is just simply beautiful. The perfect love song. The whole album is good (though I'm not overly keen on Up Escalator), and one of the few albums I bought in the '80s that I keep coming back to (the other being The Bible's Walking the Ghost Back Home - which you sould also check out!).

I prefer this album to Dogs In The Traffic (which James rates has his best), and I don't have All You Need Is... on CD (and my turntable is in storage) so I can't compare it to that one. It's a shame L&M split when they did, but to be honest, I really don;t think they could have surpassed this masterpiece if they'd kept going another 20 years.

5 out of 5 stars One of those rare pop masterpieces! A class act!.......2003-02-06

Why this release never really made it big is puzzling. If you like croony or even funky tight pop (like Bryan Ferry, Cousteau, The Beautiful South, etc.) with great instrumentals, this CD is a MUST! The songs are great, and the arrangements and production akin to the high-standards quality Steely Dan puts out! One of rock-pop's most tasteful and lofty moments! Listen to it on a 'better' stereo system and the vocals will blow you away!

4 out of 5 stars Wonderfully soulful rock and roll.......2002-04-28

If you have not had an opportunity to listen to this CD, please do so. While it is out of the usual genre of my music taste, I threw it in the auto one day at the suggestion of a friend. She has that kind of impact on me! A "Strange Kind of Love" to be sure.

I was pleased, and very much enjoyed the songs, the pace, and the tone of the disc. The first song "Hallelujah Man" has a rhythm reminiscent of Steely Dan or Bryan Ferry. I also enjoyed the songs Jocelyn Square, and Shape of Things To Come.

Some good music by a band I had never heard of. Enjoy.

As with their first collection of label highlights, Hyperion's new two-disc collection provides a broad sampling of their exceptional catalogue and performers. Particularly rewarding are the selections from Beethoven (Scherzo from String Trio in C minor, op 9 no 3, performed by the Leopold Trio) and Thomas Tallis (Salvator mundi I, performed by the Winchester Cathedral Choir), but experienced and novice listeners alike will find much to enjoy on these discs. It's also a good value--more than 2 1/2 hours of music for less than $10.

5 out of 5 stars The Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-11-04

Nelson Eddy's flawless singing and diction, with a modern orchestral accompaniment, make The Artistry of Nelson Eddy a romantic, sophisticated musical experience.

3 out of 5 stars Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-08-22

Contemporary music which is sung well but voice not as expected of Nelson Eddy. The true baritone of his voice missing. This may be the recording but CD received in good condition.

5 out of 5 stars A Nelson Eddy Tour de Force: Magnificence here on earth.......2006-03-17

I have most of the movies of Nelson Eddy. Together with Jeanette MacDonald, this team produced some of the most romantic movie-operattas ever made. But the sound quality of those movies pale in comparison to the magnificence of this production.
Nelson Eddy has never sounded better, aided (1994) by more modern recording techniques, the quality here (even with a disclaimer) is beyond belief. He has got to be one of the premier baritones of all time. Singing Popular tunes adapted from classical themes, he may be without peer. I have a CD of the young Sinatra singing "Full Moon and Empty Arms" to Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. He is not in the same universe with Eddy, whose crisp diction, timbre, fullness, perfect pitch, and passion ~ YES! PASSION! ~ must be heard (hopefully on on quality audio) to be fully appreciated. This is AWESOME. Maybe the best it gets here on earth. This is a wholly magnificent CD if you appreciate really good music, a fantastic baritone, and have a romantic bone in your body. I am astounded. Until today, I had no idea that Nelson Eddy was this good. This CD proves he was.

4 out of 5 stars For those who are already fans of N.E. only........2003-12-22

Nelson Eddy made these recordings when he was about 60 years old and it shows. He retained an excellent voice for a very long time, allowing him to perform successfully until the day he died. However, this particular recording seems to emphasize vocal decline, in terms of control and range. The problem may be that the songs presented here are mostly VERY GREAT classical orchestral pieces, to which are sung pop lyrics. In my opinion, most (but not all) of the lyrics to these songs are not worthy of their music and are incongruous. The last number, "Alone Together", an excellent Schwartz/Dietz song (which seems out of place with Rachmaninov and Ravel,) is actually a duet with Nelson's partner, Gale Sherwood. It was recorded a couple of years later than the other songs on this album, and is given a bossa nova background that in this mix, practically drowns out the singers! As to the overall sound quality, there are some light snaps and pops as on a record, but the music is loud and clear. I do not mean to discourage Nelson Eddy fans from buying this album. I think you need this album. I own this album. Buy this album, and encourage the release of more albums and radio recordings by Nelson Eddy. What I do mean to say, is that "The Artistry of Nelson Eddy" is not the best introduction to the artistry of Nelson Eddy. His recordings from the 30's, 40's or even 50's are a better purchase for the beginner. Once you love Nelson Eddy, then pick up this album.

5 out of 5 stars A Surefire Way To Turn A Bad Day Into A Good One!.......2003-04-12

The music on this CD is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It proves that the music of Nelson Eddy is simply timeless. I have always loved his voice, but these arrangements bring out the very best of it. It is highly recommended.

Great artists. Nice collection of songs. Noticeably missing was "Lovedrops", but the thing I appreciated the most was the inclusion of "I'm Goin' Home" the flip side of the original issue of "Love Is Strange" on the Groove label. More collections CDs should include the flip sides of the hits which are usually accessible only by playing the old 45s.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2005-08-23

If you like TV/movie soundtracks, and Andromeda, you should like this. Good Andromeda music, also contains the two different opening themes. (Remember, it is a TV soundtrack so it contains synthesized music.) I enjoy listening to it, and can have it playing in the background at work too without it being bothersome.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Soundtrack.......2005-02-01

The soundtrack to Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda is one of the best sci-fi soundtracks to come out in quite a while. I found the music exciting, interesting and intriguing, and on several tracks simply exhilarating; composer Matthew McCauley really does take you on a musical roller-coaster, from the stately High Guard Theme to Dylan's theme to Trance's and Beka's themes to the Nietzschean Attack theme. McCauley musically explores each character, underscoring and enhancing their unique personality. The album has kind of a New Age-ish sound to it on several tracks which gives it a mysterious ethereal quality. A great score for a great series. Composer Matthew McCauley certainly knows his stuff. This is just great music whether or not you're a fan of the show!

5 out of 5 stars love it.......2003-08-08

Great presentation of soundtrack. Interesting instrumentals for even those who are not familiar with the show. I listen to it practically all the time!

5 out of 5 stars A great television score!.......2002-03-27

First off, this is a television soundtrack, not a movie soundtrack-- many of the "instruments" are synthesized. Okay, that aside, this is a great album! It's been a long time since I've heard so many different character themes on a tv soundtrack. From the Heroic "Dylan Hunt", to the brooding "Rev Bem and Magog" music, to the outright ominious "Neitzscheans" themes, this album is a winner. It's nice that the producers also included Alex Lifeson's "March of the High Guard" theme from season 1, which is regrettably no longer used on the show. The music on this album takes you on a emotional roller coaster-- from mysterious, to brooding, to heroic and back again. High recommended for fans of both scores and the television series alike!
