One of the very first major faces in drum 'n' bass music, LTJ Bukem has always enjoyed the spacier, spiritual side of the breakbeat arena. Known for weaving atmospheres and moods using a mixture of almost jazzy pieces and tribal rhythms, Bukem has been both prolific and successful. This Producer set is one of a clutch of recent Bukem releases and serves up a tasty nine-track sampler illustrating how Bukem works his technology yet manages to retain a thoroughly organic sound with his electronic creations. Opener "Cosmic Interlude" (Bukem, like many drum 'n' bass stalwarts, has a fascination with outer space and science fiction) is a peaceful, downtempo arrangement of jazz and hip-hop; "Demons Theme" sees Bukem kick into heavier tribal break beats; while the superb acid-house-tinged undertow of "Atlantis" offers a view to the early days of breakbeat. Rarely hardcore, always evocative, passionate, and certainly innovative in the drum 'n' bass world, the flavors that comprise LTJ Bukem's work are admirably represented here. --Steffan Chirazi

2 out of 5 stars Best Of Bukem.......2001-04-17

I am a big fan of Bukem, but was disappointed to hear the same tracks on many of his CDs. If you have many of his previous releases bypass this disc. If you are new to Bukem this will be a worthwhile buy. I recommend Logical Progression sessions for his better stuff.

3 out of 5 stars -=Low Key=-.......2001-04-05

Personally, I found it meandering, dated and repetitive. And yes, I do like most types of drum & bass, but I found the newer tracks on this album more or less as evolved as ancient tracks like "Music" (also featured here.)

Maybe try one of his 'Earth' series compilations instead.

5 out of 5 stars Funky beat.......2001-03-25

I heard it in A virgin Megastore and so I asked what the C.D. was. They said it was this. I looked at it and I thought I would buy it. It adds funk to a party, adds chill after school and is just pure heaven.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but mostly old stuff.......2001-03-09

Bukem is my favourite artist. I own all of his albums. Like all of Bukem's stuff, this is a great CD. But if you are looking for new stuff, this isn't the product to buy: all of the tracks are on previously released albums.

5 out of 5 stars This is a MUST HAVE CD.......1999-09-09

When I think Drum and Bass, I think of LTJ Bukem. His Good Looking label is amazing. His drum and bass is a lot more low key with low rolling bass lines and jazzy, ambient samples. Very cool to chill out to. If you like this, check out Earth volume 2 and 3, or any of his Logical Progression compilations.
