Warning Shots..........2006-11-03
Listened, it grew on me, and now I can't stop bumpin'! Damn, when's the real album comin' out!!!
The Best Underground MC.......2006-09-16
I've been listening to Sai-giddy since he pressed the contraband record on RAWKUS. He has been in this rap game for a while now but as you know he's been servin time and droppin the illest mixtapes in the meantime. This mixtape is a good mix of what you can expect from him. I do have to agree with an earlier reviewer in sayin that his BEST MIXTAPES are the first 2 or 3 he made in-between gettin locked up. He made those with Kayslay and trust me there is no filler what so-ever on those. All in all this should leave you wantin some more so go do some homework!!! PEACE
home boi flows r good.......2005-10-31
the homey saigon is nice mane....the flow r real tight and how u kno that he been though some real things in his life time.....the beat r ok nothing to get all hype about but it goes good wit his voice and lyrics. go get this cd fo real and listern to ny streets, shock tv,l.o.v.e, and let a nigga kno
one of the most provocative mix-tapes.......2005-08-09
Siagon is the next God of hip-hop. Im from the A town and new york mixtapes rarely get heard down south. This mix tape is so good that it leaked down south and is buzzing. Siagon's vivid depictions and profuse vocabulary mixes with his vernacular to produce rythmic poetry on a beat. It is magic because he does not glorify or exploite killing, materialism, and mosagony. But yet he still maintains his street credability. If you want to know what the future of hip hop sounds like, then buy this album.
Let a nigga know.......2005-04-01
I gotta let a nigga know that Saigon Is the HOTTEST Up n Comer right now. I Downloaded "NY Streetz" and "Shok TV" 2 months ago and played them on heavy rotation. Finally I just got the CD.
GODDAMN this CD is the tightest CD you will own by an up and comer in the game right now. He reminds me a lot of 50 when he was comin up.
Hot Tracks include "let a nigga know" and "NY Streets" as well as the WhooKid Freestyle. Crazy CD, I find it wierd that he keeps shouting "Grestest Story Never Told" but the CD is called "Warning Shots" If he is comin out with this other CD I can't Wait. I will buy it when it drops.
Also look out for the song "DIRTY BIZ ft. my man KOOL G RAP"
Pick this up, you wont be dissapointed

Kanye West Presented By Consequence (***).......2005-11-03
Remember Beats Rhymes & Life? Regardless of what you thought of it (personally I was a fan) you'd have to remember that dude that seemed to be on every other track. His name was Consequence and he was the younger cousin of Q-Tip. This what seemed to be newly inducted member of the ATCQ family was nowhere to be seen on the final (brings a tear to my eye everytime) album of the Quest and I'd forgotten about him completely until I spotted this Mixtape. The biggest misconception given with this album is that it is here to showcase Consequence as he is never really given the room to let loose and shine without either a. Kanye stepping in and repping himself or b. a guest coming in and spitting some lines, however once you've moved past this fact you find your self in quite an enjoyable experience, the Cons style has changed a bit from his appearances on Beats, Rhymes & Life, it seams he's definately been hanging around his friend Kanye West and his Roc-A-Fella counterparts more than his cousins Native Tounges clique as his lyrics can be somewhat womanising and bling based at times, still he does it with charm and swagger that gets you feeling it. Guest wise their are some magic moments such as I See Now with Kanye & Little Brother also Incredible Hulk and So Soulful with John Legend step it up. Overall this is an album that much like a mixtape is missing coherence due primarly to the lack of any real chance for Consequence to set the record straight on his skills, still it's an album I've found myself going back to more than I expected and one that surprisingly my girl has been feeling too.

Great Mixtape, Good Introduction to Cons. .......2005-10-30
This cd is a typical mixtape. A lot of guests and a lot of different beats. However, most of the songs are album quality. Songs such as Wack N*gga, I See Now, Getting Out The Game, Doctor Doctor, Yard 2 Yard, So Soulful, and Take it as a Loss make this mixtape a must have. Kanye and Consequence do an amazing job throughout the whole cd and this is one of the most entertaining cds I have purchased in a long time. Watch out for Don't Quit Your Day Job, Consequence's solo debut, coming '06. Also get Late Registration.
Mediocre.......2005-10-18
Could have been a lot better if he hadn't had utilized so many damn guest appearances. There's just not enough of consequence on this album. Other than that though he is still a cut above the rest. worth checking out
Haven't heard the album yet...........2005-08-26
Yo this dude sounds nice but I gotta a question for anyone who might know the answer get back at me, did this cat used to rap under the name Benefit?
Nice Mix.......2005-05-03
Overall, good. However, they could have sold me 10 repeat track remixes of So Soulful over and over and over. If you can listen to this and not nod your head, something wrong with your pacemaker!

skillz ain't sold out... just listen to from where??? dude always wanted to appeal to the widest possible demographic, songs like get your groove on, and two others, can't remember the names right now, are prime examples that he always wanted to achieve a certain degree of success. And now that he's better known, he has certainly gone a way about gaining that exposure, but unfortunatley for him, it's not the best way. Yes, it's quite hit and miss, but when it does hit, it hits just sweet. A few throwaways, but more than a few exceptional tracks. Not too bad, and i got it for ten bucks australian, so ha haaaa!
peace bro's...
Hip Hop At It's Finest.......2005-11-28
Skillz fianlly has a album see the light of the day in the commercial form. I remeber when I first heard back in 98 on the Are U That Somebody remix and on To My from Tim's Bio album. The CD features production by The Neptunes, Timberland and some others. Pick this up if you want some real hip hop.
Solid album from Skillz.......2005-09-21
After almost a decade since his debut and being relatively quiet lately (other then his year end rap reviews and a few songs) the man with the appropriate name (Skillz) is back. An appropriate named album as well, since he has been doing a lot of ghost writing to pay the bills (check out his "Ghost Writer" track, it's blazin'). Packed with 13 songs (about half of which were on the "I Ain't Mad No More" album that never really got released). It has 2 almost classics, 4 ok songs, and the other 7 are good songs, no bad ones on here. Guests rap on 3 songs and do hooks on 2 others so you get alot of the man from VA on here. Production is decent and from some of the bigger names, (his lyrics carry the album - like always with Skillz) Nottz does 4 songs, Skillz & Rik Marvel each do 2, Timbaland, Neptunes, Naki, Hi-Tek, Darren Henson all do 1. If you're a fan of his or if you want to hear some real lyrics and no bull$h!+ pick this up.
#1 - 9 (nice beat)
#2 - 9 (f/ Cee Lo of Goodie Mobb -- nice story about trife girls)
#3 - 8 (about his view on hip hop -- today & back in the golden days o fhip hop)
#4 - 7.5 (f/ Pretty ugly)
#5 - 7 (f/ Pretty Willie)
#6 - 7.5 (f/ Music -- a decent club track)
#7 - 9.5 (a nice story about the root of evil -- money)
#8 - 8.5 (nice upbeat song)
#9 - 8 (f/ Danja Mowf)
#10 - 9.5 (f/ Aries -- song dedicated to his deceased mom)
#11 - 8
#12 - 9 (good song addressing the haters out there)

Great,but already released before.......2005-09-15
I picked this up at fat beats for my collection a couple weeks ago. They had it real early. The cd is great, but almost all the tracks are on my RETAIL copy of "I Ain't Mad No More."Yes,there really was a retail that was shelved.Non Believers can get in touch and i'll show scans. Not the one skillz handed out at his concert either that was a cdr.
The new "Confessions of A Ghostwriter" cd tracklist is as follows:
1.Off The Wall
2.Suzie Q
3.Hip Hop
4.PA to VA
5.Y'all See Me
6.Wave ya Hands
7.Imagine
8.SKILLZ
9.It's Like That
10.You Only Get One
11.Yall Don't Wanna Do That
12.Skillz vs Shaqwan
13.Who I Spit For
"I Aint Mad No More" tracklist is:
1.On The Good Foot
2.SKILLZ(track 8 on new cd)
3.Show Love
4.Crew Deep
5.Its Like That(track 9 on new cd)
6.Wave Ya Hands(also track 6 on new cd)
7.Imagine(track 7 on new cd)
8.Suzie Q(track 2 on new cd)
9.Skillz vs Shaqwan(Track 12 on new cd)
10.PA 2 VA(track 4 on new cd)
11.Blow
12.Yall See Me(track 5 on new cd)
13.Irma Lewis
14.You Only Get One(track 10 on new cd)
So as you can see, there are only four new tracks on confessions.I doubt anyone will get there hands on a retail cd of "I Ain't Mad No More" so this is worth it."I am mad" that I already have this cd and have had it for 2 years now.I understand the guy gets screwed though, but jeez, make new music.I been lovin this cat for years.Even the 4 new tracks are kinda old.O well buy it anyway to support skillz
Oklahoma to V.A........2005-09-14
Skills is my favorite emcee so I'm terribly biased. The album is what it should be: FUN. The man is trying to get on the radio and I'm not mad at him. I would listen to the radio more if commercial music sounded more like him. He makes commercialism a GOOD word and fixes what's wrong with a lot of commercial rap: light lyrics and substance and heavy on the style. Come to oklahoma skillz!!!!!!!!

Three stars for the Three Shugs.......2006-03-14
I cant really explain it I really wanted to like this album not just because primo produced on it but because I think shug has been slept on for too long and it is definitely his turn to shine. From the moment I got this I have been listening to it trying to see if it would click with me musicly but the fact of the matter is I just dont like this album. Primos production is as always top notch and I think that he will go down in history as one of the greatest DJs of all time unfortunately not for this album. I guess my real problem with this release is Shug as an MC for starters theres the painfully generic subject matter that Shug chooses to rhyme about almost every song on this CD revolves around three subjects 1.packing a gat,2.wack MCs, and of course 3 we have the token song about growing up poor in the hood with no father and while these arent the worst lyrics ive ever heard they could be much better. On past gangstarr releases Shugs rhymes were a welcome addition to any song that guru rhymed over but in this case were talking 19 songs of the SAME subject matter. Seriously after about three songs of him talking about how hardcore he is and the fact that he packs a strap I was pretty bored and just wanted to listen to something else. His rhymes remind me alot of another well known Gangstarr affiliate Freddy Foxxx. I think at this point shug would have figured out that Real heads are tired of the whole "Im a gangster" "Im the hardest" crap this type of subject matter was cool for a while but frankly I couldnt be more tired of it. Add to this fact that shug just barely raps over the beats (its almost like hes just talking) and youve got an album that is as lyricly trite as it is boring Shugs flow probably would have been acceptable in 1980 but today it just sounds like a corny middle aged man attempting to rhyme and by the time it is over you get the distinct impression that more was bitten off by shug than he could chew. this album is not without merit though primos production smokes and it comes with a dvd so if you are a gangstarr fan this is worth checking out but dont say I didnt warn you about the lyrics
Gangstarr Presents Big Shug - Who's Hard.......2006-01-01
Long time Gang Starr affiliate Big Shug released "Who's Hard" (2005) earlier this year. I had never heard of Shug and decided to check this one out; any album, which has Premo production, is worth checking out. The album opens up with the hardcore title track, which has Shug reflecting on the Rap Game and fake thugs. My favourite track is "Counter Punch" backed by some Ill production; a hungry sounding Shug shines dropping some raw rhymes. Another standout is "Tha 3 Shugs", Shug continues to deliver some thugged out lyrics backed by more deadly premo production. Shug takes a minute to talk about growing up with "No Mother, No Father" in a deep track. A later standout has Shug and Singapore Cane collabing for "Life On Wax". "Dirt" is a throwback type track where Big Shug reflects on a thugged out life with Smiley the Ghetto Child & H Stax. The album closes off "What's Really Real?", Shug rhymes slowly over some more outstanding production. The highlight of this release for me is Premo's production; Big Shug gets a bit repetitive at times, partly due to a lack of content. He does best on hardcore tracks, because he seems genuine. Overall "Who's Hard" is a decent album, which was slept on by mainstream audiences.
Gangstar shines through one of its protégés .......2005-11-28
Despite being from Boston, this cat is not bad. Hmm... maybe it's those nasty Brooklyn beats provided by Premier? Wait... did I mention that most of these beats were laid out by the greatest producer of all time, the legendary DJ Premier? 'Nuff said!
Shug's on the Set.......2005-10-12
One of my favorite Gang Starr records, F.A.L.A., features the long time associate of Primo & Guru. Now his solo debut. Not exceptional or profound, but an above average first album mainly due to the sick production attributed to Premier. It's noteworthy to think of how much money Premier passed up by not selling these beats to some whack rappers. That is the classic Gang Starr integrity that will leave an indelible mark on hip-hop.
Shug's lyrics and delivery match the production on nearly every song and they generally flow together quite well. Some may tire of 20 straight Shug records, but his flow is not half as monotonous as Guru's, and those records are tireless. A definite for a production fiend, and Gang Starr fans who enjoy a harder edge to the lyrics.
A Big Shug album at last!! .......2005-09-15
¨Finally this album by longtime Gangstarr fondation affiliate is released, it was long overdue. I remember I already heard about the project and even the title around 2000. I gotta say I'm not disapointed because I wasn't expecting too much about Shug's skillz level (i Like Shug but he's not in my top mc's list), what I was worried about was having: a.- not enough involvement from Dj Premier b.- so so beats from Premier. a.- He produced nine tracks b.- these are bangers . This is enough to hear once again about a "dj premier come back", especially for the people who haven't heard his latest productions (AZ, Cormega, Teflon, Nyg'z, Blaq Poet). What's disapointing about this cd is that Premier didn't produce all the beats and that the other producers can't compare (even the 2 Alchemist's beats are not that great). The other thing is that Shug'flow and singing becomes sometimes boring (a reason why the guest mc's verses are welcome, great contributions by Bumpy Knuckles or Smiley by the way). Maybe they should'have released a shorter lp. To sum up, I'd say that you should buy it because there's nine bangers from Primo (he doesn't produce so much tracks on a project everyday) and some other good songs and for this price you got a bonus dvd...

Theodore Unit - Ghostfacing The Best .......2006-05-20
After the Pretty Toney dropped, Ghost put together a compilation album featuring his Thedore Unit. There are many cuts on this that Pretty Toney didn't make, such as ("Paychecks") featuring "Ghostface" and "Trife" and ("The Drummer") where Method Man and Streetlife show up to add their support. Ghost really blows up the set with the opening track ("Guerilla Hood"), the next following cut ("Punch In, Punch Out"), "Trife" really holds his own. Ghostface and Trife comeback together on the "Big Daddy Kane's" ("Set It Off") beat, where they show us how the real NY cats freestyle. A suprising collaboration where "Bone Crusher" shows up to rock it with the "Theodore Unit" on ("Who Are We"). Theodore Units consists of Ghostface, Trife, Shawn Wiggs, Solomon Child and Cappadonna himself, who smashes the killer cut ("Pass The Mic"). Cappa ain't sound this good in years. "Solomon Child" ends it with ("Be My Girl"), a real gem. Ghostface carrying the Wu-Tang name!

Theodore Unit - 718.......2005-12-31
Here it is 2004, and Ghost gets these dope cats together and makes an album (it says Official Mixtape) but more of an album in my opinion. Solomon Childs is dope also. But there is a white guy, I totally forgot his name already but hes not too bad either! Ghost raps alot along with Solomon. Check this, if you like Ghost or Wu-Tang get this!
Lyric wise, not the hottest lyrics in the game but definately dope and better than the commercial garbage! Ghost, Trife and Solomon stand out the most lyrically. Tracks like "Be My Girl" by Solomon doesnt have the dopest rhymes but its dope! Haha. Doesnt make sense but trust me. I think that every track on the album is successful lyric wise.
Production wise, good! Now I wasnt feeling every beat. So ill tell you the ones I dont like. "Wicked With Lead", "Work", "Its The Unit", those I dont like, just my personal tastes. But they are good out of my tastes. Now! "Pass The Mic" has the dopest beat. Its old school, just F*** its hott! Nothing to it, bass and drums and a trumpet sound that comes in every now and then its just hott. Good production on the album.
My Top 5 Songs
1.Guerilla Hood
2.Who Are We?
3.Mama Can You Hear Me
4.Right Back
5.Be My Girl

Good, but not quite there.......2005-10-20
With a large track listing of 26 songs, you might be surprised at this album. However, most of this album comprises of minute-long "skits", meaning there are very few "proper" songs. On the other hand, this is Rahzel. This album is a cocktail of freestyles, tributes, covers, and an amazing radio-show style song with Funk master Flex. True hip-hop fans will instantly notice legends such as KRS-ONE, RZA from Wu Tang, and Slick Rick. Rahzel, member of The Roots, also collaborates tracks with other Roots members, such as ?uestlove. One of the best tracks on the album would have to be the Tribute to Jam Master Jay, the late DJ of RUN-DMC, where Rahzel impresses a crowd live.
Rahzel, who boasts being "The undisputed Beat-box champion of the world", shows his skill in such clarity, that this album is a must for fans of hip/hop, The Roots, or just for people looking for something different. This is a great purchase.
Straight up amazing. .......2005-05-05
As you can tell from my nickname next to my name, I love beatboxing. Liked doing beats with my mouth since I was young, got more into it in high school when some of my friends would rock crowds, now I do the same at talent shows. I usually am not fazed by people who try to beatbox, but man, if I ever had to face Rahzel, I'd pee my pants. He is simply untouchable. The ish he does isn't even human. Now to get to this cd. This is better than the first. He is an alright lyricist, but not the greatest. The beatboxing is his greatest strength. Man, that old snoop beat he imitated with Tonedeff on the mic rippin the verse apart. That was one I play over and over. I loved the several tracks Black Thought was in, which was track 7 where he just freestyled over a nice Rahzel beat, track 15, where he and Dice Raw just throw down some nice lyrics, while Questlove and Rahzel trade turns during the song with the instrumentals. And track, I think it's twenty with GrimmReaper from Gravediggas, no, it's 22, where Rahzel just lays such a tight beat and Grimm and Black Thought put down some great freestyles. Wow, the Tribute to Aaliyah was just amazing, with Rahzel singing the chorus line to one of her songs, can't remember the title since I didn't really listen to her music, but I heard the song before on the radio, and it sounded just like it when Rahzel did it. It was nice to here Supernatural, which I feel is one of the best freestylers ever, to freestyle and pay a tribute to Run DMC's Jam Master Jay. The list can go on, but from the songs I just talked about, it describes my feelings about every song on here. Get this. Beatboxing is often a forgotten element in hip hop and it needs to be supported, especially when Rahzel is doing it.
you cant stop the madness!!.......2004-08-18
if you have ever sat on the corner and heard a rhyme battle and had beatboxing gurus go for broke this album is essential. rahzel's speed and experience have gone from vast to everlasting.. this album was a sleeper. being no one heard it coming. the added guest appearances are suiting and the hot 97 instro is superb.
Must have ALBUM.......2004-07-14
YO if you like beat boxing and turn tables and hip hop, you will love this ablum. The tribute songs to people are amazing, buy this album and you will love it@
4 1/2 stars for jaw-dropping.......2004-06-11
Ok, first of all, this album isn't for everyone... Some will write it off as a novelty, becuase it IS "just" a Beatbox album.
Then you think about what's going on. Rahzel is amazing... He has apparently 4 different sounds going on at any given time, AND, can just flip the script and change the beat up at the drop of a hat... The best parts of this album are the interludes (he usually does live interludes and/or radio show recordings as interludes, and his live performances are much better than his written songs). The weakest tracks are when he's just the beat for another artist, and actually, on the tracks he raps AND beat boxes, I'd have to say, most of the time, he shows up the other rappers putting it down with him...
Standout tracks include the Funkmaster Flex interlude (4 minutes of Rahzel doing his thing on Hot 97 one day), and the "Undisputed Interlude" where Rahzel proves why he's the "undisputed champion."
If you're a hip hop head and you like hearing some old school flavor, with jaw dropping beat boxing, then throw in your chips and buy this album...

Thats Whats Up .......2006-06-10
This right here is a good example of what it means to be a good judge of talent. I mean, how does Dip Set manage to find so many talented guys who spit so nice with that quick witty and cleaver type style. Jay Bez got a crazy flow, and I can't wait to here more from this dude... he's next up...
Not bad.........2006-01-02
Bezel to me is a good rapper. He has good punchlines and makes good songs. Although it is only a mixtape, it is quite good.
The only real problem with it is the fact that most of the songs are old. They should have done all new songs instead of putting old material on it.
DIPSET!.......2005-10-27
Good stuff to me.
The beats are great even though 1 was from Cassidy's CD but still good stuff.

Royce Da 5'9 - M.I.C.......2005-11-14
This is the second album that I picked up from Royce. This isn't really a solo album by him, his M.I.C group is also on a lot of the songs. Don't let that keep you from getting this though.
Lyrically, Royce and the M.I.C is real on this album. Its the same old Royce you know from any other songs/albums hes been on.
Production wise, this album is very good, some of the beats were decent/medicore, but most were bangers. The songs I listed in my top 5 have very dope beats.
If you like Royce, then this album is for you plain and simple. Nothing weak abou it!
Peace.

Solid Royce..........2005-04-17
The beats and production on this are pretty good. Royce kills it, but the same can't be said about his M.I.C. crew. The tracks he goes solo on are solid and the CD as a whole is a good listen. The content can become bland after a while, but the lyrical skillz definately make Royce entertaining. "52 Bars" is a classic Royce track. Pretty solid drop.
royce 5'9 is good rapper. .......2005-03-05
royce 5'9 is good rapper. His ablum gets 3 out of 5. Good tracks like 52 bars, basic, and Back in the Days.

The M.I.C. Official Mixtape is a good CD for those Royce fans waiting on his next studio album, but it is nowhere close to his best material. MUST HAVE!!!
