Despite its sounds--the completely synthetic blips and bleeps of cheesy Kraftwerk wannabes--the debut English-language release by Sweden's Doktor Kosmos is in essence a folk record. Just as old-time guitar pickers copped stock melodies, lyrics, and chord progressions, expressing themselves through adaptation, the good Doktor uses the generic, public domain accompaniments of the electronic age. With pushbutton convenience, Kosmos (one-time keyboardist for Stockholm's Komeda) conjures the preset beats and rhythms of commercial synths on which he sings his own new songs.

For those who demand blood and guts songwriting, the plastic ditties on Cocktail will sound frustratingly shallow and simplistic. That anyone with a $100 Casio and a few fingers is more than halfway toward replicating Doktor Kosmos' sound certainly puts his music in suspicion. Yet it's hard to label Kosmos a charlatan, if only because his music can make the listener laugh out loud. There's a conceptual brilliance at work in his one-touch minimalism, both parodying and emulating early techno/synth-pop, whenever, like an ineffectual, overintellectual Eurotrash noodler (think Saturday Night Live's Mike Myers as Dieter), he mechanically deadpans the ever-concise lyrics to "Elevator Bossa": "A boy and a girl/Fell in love in the elevator/Two months later/He hate her."

Then, with the Ping-Pong ball driven "L.S.A.T.T. (Lazy Sunday Afternoon Table-Tennis)" and "No One at Home," which constructs a '90s cosmopolitan rag around unanswered telephone rings, doorbells and knocks, Kosmos gets really subversive. He offers his machine-age laziness as avant garde composition, and with a barely hidden snicker, juxtaposes artiness with frivolity and cold digital complexity with cocktail stupidity. Where Berlin meets Miami Beach, Bauhaus meets Art Deco, and ambient techno DJ'ing meets organ grinder monkeybusiness, Doktor Kosmos has produced a guilty pleasure worthy of indulgence. --Roni Sarig

After a seven-year gap between their first and second albums, Pink Martini have brought forth their third long-player just over two and a half years later. Based in Portland, Oregon, this dazzling 12-piece ensemble are led by pianist Thomas Lauderdale and fronted by vocalist China Forbes. Their rich musical journeys carry listeners everywhere from a ballroom in Havana to a cabaret in Paris. This set even includes a number in Japanese and another in Arabic. With their strings, horns, and sultry rhythms, Pink Martini find the common denominators in these musics from around the globe. Hey Eugene! is perfectly bookended with a pair of decidedly American numbers: their original "Everywhere" evokes musicals from Hollywood's golden era, while "Tea for Two" finds guest duet partner Jimmy Scott adding his emotionally riveting singing. While Lauderdale and his cohorts draw from past times and styles, they never come off as museum curators; rather, they celebrate the vibrancy that makes music timeless. --David Greenberger

Album Description

"This ensemble from Portland, Oregon, wowed the fabulous on the Cannes party circuit ... but that accomplishment hardly addresses the beautiful and sophisticated music of Pink Martini ... breathtaking." -- THE NEW YORKER

"No matter how Pink Martini gets described, there's always an element being overlooked, a reliance on phrases such as lounge, cosmopolitan rumba, or neo-classical that only tells part of this rich story. Impressive at every musician's station, this ensemble produces music that's charming and elegant." -- VARIETY

Pink Martini--the genre-bending, best-selling, supremely talented, and raucously fun twelve-piece ensemble that the New Yorker calls simply "beautiful," sophisticated," and "breathtaking"--returns with Hey Eugene! a twelve-track sonic journey anchored by deft songwriting and a no-holds-barred dose of cabaret showmanship. "We're kind of like musical archaeologists, bringing melodies and rhythms from different parts of the world together to create something that is modern," explains bandleader, artistic director, and founder Thomas Lauderdale.

Delivered with sultry grace by lead singer China Forbes, Hey Eugene! shines throughout--from the golden-era Hollywood melody of "Everywhere" to the French cabaret of "Ojala." Other collaborations anchor the set as well: the pan-world "Dosvedanya, Mio Bombino" with its Latin-meets-Russian beat and globetrotting subject matter, plus the Forbes-Lauderdale-penned sexy sway of "City of Night." Peruvian percussionist Martin Zarzar debuts the romantically complex "Mar Desconocido" and bassist Phil Baker adds the quiet beauty of "Cante e Dance." The group also mines the past for hidden gems, including the Japanese-language track "Taya Tan" and their first-ever recording in Arabic, "Bukra wba'do." Meanwhile, clever lyricism leads to an empowering dose of pop perfection on the title track by Forbes (about a boy she met at a party who asked for her number and never called). Finally, jazz legend Jimmy Scott makes a stunning vocal guest appearance in a duet with Forbes on the closing song "Tea for Two."

With Hey Eugene! Pink Martini has returned with an exhilarating album full of uncompromising musicianship, hope, beauty, and joy!

5 out of 5 stars Pink Martini is an undescribable band!.......2007-07-10

This is a unique and undescribable group...the music (lyrics, composition and arrangement) is superb with a Latin and European flair...check out the New York Times music review of the group on June 15th, 2007...you will love this band!

3 out of 5 stars Time for a change.......2007-07-09

Loved the previous 2 albums, feel a bit ripped of by this one. I guess too much of a good thing becomes... too much!

Still enjoyable, just not thoroughly enjoyable. More like background music.

Ok Pink Martini, now is the time to get some inspiration and produce a 4th album with some kick, new colors and tunes, and show you are here to last.

All this being said because I found you all "sympathique" last time you came to Luxembourg. So I am yearning for more!

5 out of 5 stars Sublime.......2007-07-08

As expected Pink Martini's third album fulfils every musical expectation. if ever a band was created to inspire joy it's Pink Martini. Their music transports you to the four corners of the globe and spins you in the process, spilling whatever martini you currently have in hand. China's voice and all that masculine percussional and horn support blows me every time. All three albums are every collections must haves.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Pink Martini.......2007-07-03

I've now seen this wonderful, energetic band twice live, and heartily recommend the experience to anyone! Their newest album is great, although I do think that overall, the first two albums are a little better. But as always, there are some wonderful tracks -- and mixed into a live performance, it all just makes sense, in an eclectic Pink Martini kinda way. LOVE this group!!

4 out of 5 stars Hey Eugene!.......2007-07-03

Although my fav is still "Hang on Little Tomato", I found this CD true to Pink Martini's roots; eclectic, fresh, and well-composed music. The music gets better and better with each listen.

After purchasing many compilations I began to fear that I would never again hear a cd as good as my first (Siddharta Vol. 1) but this cd woke me up. Some songs are better than others. "Siempre Me Quedará" for example is one of the best songs I've heard in months and all are consistantly good except for one song called "Carmela" which sounds like something my grandparents would dance to.
When I realised that Putumayo made many discs with many different themes without sticking to 1 theme I assumed it would be commercial and weak, but the disc outdoes most buddha bar or hotel costes compilations!
A great Listen, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Speak Spanish or Not, This CD is Great.......2007-04-10

I am a Spanish student and am nearly fluent. It's fun to listen to this CD and know what they're saying, but even if you can't speak a word of Spanish, this CD will retain a special place on your shelf (or a permanent place in your CD player). The music varies from tangoes to salsas to mambos. I especially enjoy listening to this CD in my car because... it's just plain fun to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth and Sexie.......2007-03-13

All the cuts offer a tasty bite of Latin flavor. Latin Jazz and Euro fusion. Great listening music or as a back drop to accent a dinner party. The music is captivating, enchanting, and just a pleasure to listen. This is the kind of music that goes great with a sunset, wine, and a friend.

5 out of 5 stars Learn Spanish and groove at the same time: Latin Lounge.......2007-01-04

I just bought this CD at the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. It was playing over the loudspeaker in the gift shop and I was hooked. Happy to help the local economy but I could have saved some $ if I had bought it on amazon. This is an amazing CD. Not only is the music great, but you can also improve your Spanish by listening to the lyrics. If you like groovy Latin music, buy this now.

5 out of 5 stars Putumayo.......2006-12-15

PUTUMAYO is awesome music, a real eye opener. Similar in many ways to the BUDDHA BAR approach but different flavour.

Anyone who enjoys this cd may want to try MANU CHAO (proxima estacion ... ESPERANZA) for another trully great Latin American music.

This is definitely one of the easiest CD's to pop in, along with Nuevo Latino .... anytime anywhere ... just makes you enjoy the moment so much more.

5 out of 5 stars Cocktail Disco.......2007-07-07

A fantastic collection, easily the equal of Dimitri from Paris' best disco compilations. Feel good music.

4 out of 5 stars "Greetings ladies and gentleman, welcome to the wonderful world of Cocktail Disco.".......2007-06-24

This 22 track, double CD showcases a special sub genre of disco music that in its heyday may have been referred to as "Slease", but now Monsieur Dimitri the king of disco has coined a new name for it in which it will forever be known now to the world as "Cocktail Disco".

Dimitri from Paris (DFP) is no stranger to disco and anyone who has been following his career knows that he is possibly the number 1 de facto leader or ambassador to this genre of music post its rise and fall in the late 1970's. Not surprisingly he continues to favor and deeply supports the genre faithfully, this album is a true testiment to that note.

"And what does Cocktail Disco refer to you may ask?... Rich orchestrations, a touch of Latin influence, the ubiquitous 4/4 Disco beat, and rather over the top vocals... Maybe some would find it Cheesy, I would rather say cheeky and glamorous, something that would be fit for a Broadway musical show."

His two album releases from the "Defected in the House" label showcase the music side he is known for spinning when he is in a live event club space. Here Dimtri returns to the major indie London based DJ label "BBE" in which he also has two prior album releases with. DFP with this record label is oriented with his disco loving side (Both prior albums have disco in the title "Disco Forever" and "The Kings of Disco"). Contrary to what all previous albums were like, this one is different in the fact that it is unmixed but rather compiled. He chose to unalter any of the music to keep them true to their original sound. All the tracks are their full-length versions however and even though they are not mixed or original compositions, they still are very much Dimitri and each song rings his name loudly.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome back to the '70s..........2007-06-20

This compilation is so "Love Boat" that I'm sure it's no coincidence that the cover art features a cruise ship.

But more to the point, unlike some of Dim's previous releases, this one feels very relaxed, and even though it's not a continuous mix per se, the tracks groove together flawlessly. Whether you play it loud to shake your booty to, or soft during your next swank soiree, this music is meant to be played.

5 out of 5 stars Bloody Brilliant.......2007-05-12

You won't be able to listen to this in the car with the kids (too profane) and the one joke repitition wears a bit. Having said that, a must buy that is laugh out loud funny. It calls to mind the Bill Murray "Nick Lava" lounge singer bit, only better since this guy can actually sing. Would make a great gift, although I'm not sure for what holiday.

5 out of 5 stars OH Jeez, the Cheese is Hilarious!.......2007-04-18

My sister introduced me to Richard Cheese and I think I busted something laughing at the music/lyric combo. This stuff is HILARIOUS.

That said, my baby daughter also digs this music. Sadly I am going to need to ditch this CD before she learns to talk or we are going to be in some deep S#@&T.

2 out of 5 stars Crude laughs.......2007-01-23

Give this a two for the number of times you'll think it's funny. Maybe a three over all the years you'll own it. It's crude and not real clever. Stinky Cheese! I knew better, somebody slap me!

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Jesus!!.......2006-11-22

Sweet Jesus Mary Mother of God!!! This is the best album I have bought in a long time! I bought it along with Aperitif for Destruction, and ever since I put the disc in my CD player, I haven't stopped smiling. I would recommend it to those who like uplifting tunes, who always see the glass as half full and honestly believe that every cloud really does have a silver a lining. Honestly, they do! It is such a fun album. I am now a Richard Cheese addict and am spreading the cheese as far as it will be tolerated! Every song is pure genius. Happy listening. xx

4 out of 5 stars lounge music versions of popular songs.......2006-09-21

If you haven't heard this type of music, it's funny. Quite humorious to hear old rap songs turned into lounge music. But gets old quick. Good for an easy joke at social settings.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ted Nugent, please phone home.......2007-06-25

Ultra-Lounge Bachelor Pad Royale gives us a great selection of steamy romantic hits from the late 1950s and early 1960s that still sound great today! The lush and creative musical arrangements hold your attention rather easily and the quality of the sound is excellent.

The CD track set kicks off with "The Theme From Route 66" performed by Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra. The sound is cool, savvy and the melody goes along at just the right pace. The strings and percussion enhance this classic number, too. Great! The next track has The John Buzon Trio performing "Caravan" using the organ as they so often did to embellish the beauty of the number. The percussion hits it all just right and "Caravan" boasts a romantic and relentlessly upbeat melody.

"Cool" by Lou Busch & His Orchestra gives us an awesome rendition of this song from West Side Story; and "The Beast" by Milt Buckner oozes class and a certain type of panache you rarely hear these days. Like John Buzon and his buddies; the arrangement for "The Beast" makes good use of the organ. The piano shines on this number, too.

Alvino Rey's rendition of "Night Train" slinks along with a steamy, naturally romantic style that will prove beyond doubt that this music still retains its high quality control to this very day. Martin Denny was doing a lot of exotica by the late 1950s, but his version of "Harlem Nocturne" is sublime! The chimes work well; and the piano together with the bass make this number an instant classic. Hooray!

Sam Butera and his buddies perform a medley of "The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams/Fever" that leaves you sweating from its hot, hot, hot delivery; and "Street Scene '58" makes great use of the sax to romanticize this tune.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The last two tracks on this CD are Julie London's "Black Coffee" and "Melancholy Serenade" by King Curtis. Julie sings "Black Coffee" without a single superfluous note; but you should know that although "Melancholy Serenade" gets the royal treatment from King Curtis, this is not the interpretation of this song that I have heard before. Instead of the dramatic and somewhat boisterous use of the horns; King Curtis's rendition places the organ squarely into the spotlight of the arrangement and the single horn tones down this angle drastically. Nevertheless, the arrangement works well.

The liner notes include an informative essay by R. J. Smith; and the song credits and recording dates are there for you, too. The artwork reflects good taste and there are even two drink recipes!

I highly recommend this CD for fans of "lounge music" and for people who want to remember a time when cool music for lovers actually was cool music for lovers.

Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Cool!.......2007-05-13

Brought me back to the days of tuxedos, secret agents and private detectives. Cool, very cool.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE ULTRA LOUNGE!!.......2007-05-12

Nothing can be finer that Ultra Lounge - never a bad thing to say.

5 out of 5 stars Title a bit of a misnomer but..........2007-01-27

Hard to see how some of the tracks on this disc fit in with the whole late-night bachelor pad ethos as they are, quite simply, and in the words of the great Stan Freberg, "too loud, man". That said, this is a great CD. The music is fabulous and beautifully re-mastered (Cy Coleman's "Playboy's Theme" is the epitome of bachelor pad cool and, by itself, worth the price of the disc) while RJ Smith's liner notes are, as ever, entertaining, witty and evocative. In fact the whole package is life-affirming, high-quality fun: just the thing to chase those blues away.

5 out of 5 stars I love the Ultra-Lounge series........2006-12-10

The sound quality of the Ultra-Lounge series is excellent, even though the songs were recorded mostly in the 50's and 60's. Capitol Records packs each CD with carefully chosen tracks consistent with the theme of the particular volume in the series. Many of the selections that appear here aren't available elsewhere, either because the original album on which the song appeared is out of print, or because the song was issued as a single and never collected in an album. A few 'previously unreleased' tracks also appear here. This series is a wonderful introduction to the music of a by-gone era, and each album includes detailed notes on each track (artist, writers, date recorded, how released, etc.). I heartily recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of music.

4 out of 5 stars Richard Cheese.......2007-04-04

Richard Cheese is a blast. Great party music, lounge GNR and more.

4 out of 5 stars Aperitif For Destruction.......2006-03-23

This is just good, chewy fun... and you can dance to it!
4 stars out of 5 so as not

5 out of 5 stars Musical Comedy.......2006-02-13

I had a lot of fun with this CD, especially inflicting it on unsuspecting house guests. I'm very much into funny music, so I do have to make one comment: this one's not so much about the music as it is about the musical comedian. The music quality isn't the best I've heard but Richard Cheese is very funny. The last track is definitely the best because of him. Also not for listening when the kids are within earshot.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2006-01-14

Bill Murray changed the words. Richard Cheese does not. And it's awesome. If you buy one, buy 'em all.

3 out of 5 stars wow, this music gets old fast.......2005-12-01

Bill Murray did the lounge-singer spoofing on rock songs better thirty years ago, on Saturday Night Live. Me First and the Gimme Gimmies are doing it better now, but they're using punk to blast the sides off of pop-songs. Wait, I think STEVE ALLEN did the incongruity thing best, in the fifties/sixties, when he recited the lyrics to early rock songs, showing how the songs wouldn't hold up to being read out loud. So a lounge singer's versions of hip-hop/pompous power rock/crappy pop songs?: after the umpteenth version, it just isn't novel enough to be funny anymore. All that said, I laughed during Cheese's version of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" when the dude screeched "Ay chihuahua...." Now that's funny. (Side-note: Amazon's "related products" links to this are all to actual cheese vendors. That is the highlight of my whole Cheese/cheese search today. Gott segne Wisconsin.)

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie, Great Music...Great Time!.......2006-09-03

For those who need to know and want to know....the name of the song playing in Doug's niteclub: "Essential Sensual" by Wayne Roland Brown. This song is not featured on the soundtrack, but the majority of the others are. I believe this to be the best movie Tom Cruise has done, next to Top Gun & Interview with a Vampire. That's just me though! Cauglan's Law: Bury the dead; they stink up the joint...

3 out of 5 stars tinyperson82.......2006-07-15

Does anyone know what the song is that is playing in Doug's nightclub when Tom Cruise comes to beg for a job. I think I'm hearing the words "sensual" or "sexual". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5 out of 5 stars One of the All-Time Great Soundtracks.......2006-03-10

Every song on this CD is great! It was one of my favorites to listen to when I was bartending.

3 out of 5 stars Almost there..........2006-01-16

I agree, I also miss "shelter of your love". Especially when parts of the score is based on that song, you can hear it playing in several scenes. Too bad it was left out.

3 out of 5 stars OK soundtrack for a Fantastic movie!!!.......2006-01-09

the song that you are looking for is "shelter of your love" by jimmy cliff. this soundtrack is pretty good, but it leaves out some of the better songs such as the one mentioned before and "this magic moment" by leroy gibbons.

5 out of 5 stars The club is cookin'; the band is hot and you just walked in--CRAZY !!!.......2007-07-12

Ultra Lounge, Volume 5: Wild Cool & Swingin gives us eighteen swinging tracks to delight your ears and make you dance all through the night! The collection of hits doesn't have a dud in the set; and the diversity of the artists couldn't be broader.

The CD track set begins with Dean Martin's classic interpretation of "Ain't That A Kick In The Head." The Nelson Riddle arrangement relies on the horns and the piano is awesome! Dean's voice is in perfect form--energetic and full of masculine warmth as he sings of his new love. A previously unreleased track of "Dig That Crazy Chick" by Sam Butera & The Witnesses follows; Sam & The Witnesses swing hard. Sam's voice is clear and full of excitement as he describes his new girlfriend. The musicians never miss a beat, either!

Bobby Darin performs "More" with sensitivity and panache; I love that piano arrangement by Richard Wess! Peggy Lee's classic rendition of "Fever" absolutely oozes the feminine desire for a man; the people snapping their fingers along with the beat really add to the number! Peggy's voice is rich and vibrant for "Fever." Excellent!

"Danke Schöen" by Wayne Newton will surpass your expectations if you've never heard this ballad before; Wayne sings this with all his heart. Wayne's interpretation of "Danke Schoen" makes his rendition THE definitive interpretation of "Danke Schöen." Jimmie Haskell's orchestra performs beautifully with a firm emphasis on the horns, percussion and strings.

If you want a more playful number, however, check out "French Poodle" by Sam Butera & The Witnesses. Sam sings this to perfection and the horns sound great on "French Poodle!" "Closer To The Bone" by Louis Prima continues in this vein; I believe that you will enjoy "Closer To The Bone" by Louis Prima.

The CD provides us with still more traditional love ballads. Nat King Cole performs "L-O-V-E" without a superfluous note; love that horn solo in the middle of this number! Moreover, Dean Martin croons "Volare (Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blu)" with a great musical arrangement; I really like how Dean Martin sings this number in both English and Italian. Great effect!

Julie London delivers "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" with all the style of a consummate performer; and the CD track set ends well with Bobby Darin crooning a great "Hello, Dolly!" Darin sings "Hello, Dolly!" with great care and sensitivity. "Hello, Dolly" provides a strong ending to the CD track set.

The liner notes include great artwork; and R. J. Smith contributes an essay about lounge singers and the nightlife of the late 1950s and early 1960s especially on the Vegas strip. The song credits and recording dates are there for you; and there are even two drink recipes! Bob Norberg at Capitol Recording Studios did a great job of remastering these tunes.

The very special, golden age of The Vegas Strip with its superstars of the 1950s and 1960s may be behind us but this album does a great job of recreating those special times. I highly recommend this CD for fans of lounge music; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will cherish this CD for years to come.

Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!.......2007-05-13

Love this kind of music - can't get enough - have most all of the CDs. Excellent New Jersey-based company with excellent foresight and retro-understanding for the best party and jazz combos. Excellent choice for any kind of day or evening, party or relaxation time.

5 out of 5 stars Great lounge/cocktail sampler.......2005-10-12

The UltraLounge series definately covers the genre throughly, and this one is about the best in the series. Not every song is well-known, but most are very very enjoyable. This is a good place to start if you are introducing yourself to the genre. I thought Bobby Darin's More was the most lush and enjoyable of the tunes. You'll get a chuckle out of Prima's Closer to the Bone, a song not found on the usual Prima samplers. You certainly get a "you are in old Vegas" feel off of these tunes! Check out their UltraLounge website for a good look at the full series. Definately recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Grab a Gin and Tonic, sit in a booth in the back, and enjoy the show........2005-09-29

This is one of my favorite Ultra Lounge discs, as it combines many of the great live acts of the 50s/60s. If you close your eyes while listening to it, you may think you're sitting in the Copa room of the Sands in Las Vegas. A little Louis Prima, some Dean and some Bobby Darin make the night just right.

4 out of 5 stars Great for dinner parties.......2007-04-04

It's very mellow, although there are some points where a woman is doing tribal screams or something. I think it's supposed to add to the tropical feel of the disc. It kind of surprised me, and I didn't particularly like that part but overall I really liked the CD. In fact, the whole Ultra-Lounge series is great.

I was a little dissapointed, very generic, kinda like hawaiian elavator music even the famus Marten Denny Quite Village was not the original it was more somber.

4 out of 5 stars Mondo Exellento.......2005-09-29

I have purchased several of the other Ultra Lounge series, and this one is definately one of my favoites. The exotic sounds are much different than the music on the other compilations, from the different take on Misirlou to the wacky wildness of Jungle Madness. Anyone who is a fan of the Ultra Lounge series should check this out, but be warned, this is mostly an instrumental album.

5 out of 5 stars Family music bonding.......2006-07-18

My two boys (age 2 and 7) LOVE this CD. We play it almost on a daily basis and they dance around all over the house to it. After a year, it still has this effect to them. Their favorite track is the 2nd one. I rarely get to listen to the whole CD through before they are jumping around asking for "TRACK 2! TRACK 2!"

This is by far my (our) favorite Putumayo compilation!

5 out of 5 stars A cocktail party for the ear.......2006-06-14

I received this CD as a gift from my younger sister&I STILL enjoy it.It's worth every listen.

This CD kicked off Putumayo's Lounge series, giving it an auspicious start. There are tracks I enjoy more than others, but it isn't a weak album;there aren't fillers. The best tracks are those by Pink Martini,Nicola Conte,Jasmon,Mo'Horizons,Gotan Project,Hamid Baroudi,Montefiori Cocktail,Arling&Cameron, and Blue Asia.Mau Mau&Dissidenten aren't my favorites;as you can see,99% of the CD is pure perfection.

The music uses a variety of styles.Nicola Conte,Jasmon,as well as Arling&Cameron use Bollywood as inspiration."Shiva's Daughters" is loveably cheesy.Hamid Baroudi&Blue Asia make haunting Middle Eastern melodies.Mo'Horizons&Gotan Project have more Latin flavors.Montefiori Cocktail turns a Brazilian bossa nova tune into kitschy bliss.Pink Martini from Portland,Oregon (being from Oregon,I'm proud of them)gives a nod to chanson.

This CD is intoxicating;it's a musical margarita.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD for Variety and Fun Listening.......2006-05-25

I have had this CD for a while and I really enjoy it. I actually play it quietly in the background when I teach Pilates and the class LOVES it....every time I use it at least one person comments on my "great" music...I always share the title with them. Great music is meant to be shared!!

4 out of 5 stars Definitely recommend.......2005-09-02

Putamayo always puts out great albums, and this one has a great beat, especially good in the background when you have people over.

5 out of 5 stars Great music.......2005-04-17

Putumayo's "World Lounge" had only one drawback, as does their other CDs, and that's that it's too short. This CD spans around an hour, with 11 songs, and I think that's way too short for a compililation like this. That aside, this is a great CD, filled with some of the biggest stars and Hits of Europe and Asia. If you're not a fan of HouseBeats or Techno, I don't recommend you purchase this. If, however, you are, then buy away!
