AN ABSOLUTE KNOCK-OUT.......2005-02-02

Banda Black Rio was fantastic in the 70's, and this new recording gives them a fabulous second wind; the funky rhythms combined with Brazilan accents (just imagine the result) are better than ever; just listen to Misterios da Raca and Nova Guanabara and you'll agree at once.

I never heard of the Black Power Movement in Brazil.......2003-04-21

....but at approximately the same time while this awareness was going on in the US, apparently a similar awakening was going on in Brazil. These dudes dug up every Con-funk-shun, EWF, Kool and the Gang (early 70's) and Brass Construction album they could find, incorporated rhythms and beats from their indigenous environs and the result is a SHOCK!! This isn't a watered down impression of American R&B but an original form that stands on its own merits. I listen to it over and over because I can't believe the result.

Pure Funk Fantasy.......2003-02-28

I walk into my local soundwaves looking for some acid jazz and I got pure funk! This cd is reminisant of earth, wind, and fire, with a touch of afro-brazilian vibe. Cuts # 4 and # 11 are the hottest, however all of the tracks are smokin'. The vocals are tight and the bass is boomin'. You can really get your head bobbin' to this mix. Check it out, you won't be disappoited.

All I can say about this Live cd is OMG!!! This live cd shows how extremely the new Angra can play live shows! Songs are outstanding and all played flawlessly! Another indispensable Ranieri survey of Italian classics.......2005-12-29

As I have indicated in other reviews of the Massimo Ranieri's CDs, he is the great curator/historian of popular Italian song. In this CD, he continues to explore the classics with his impeccable singing,always adding a novel twist in the arrangements. Best cut: Domenico Modugno's "Io Mammeta E Tu," which is driven by dance beat over which a female voice chants in French "Un deux trois...quatre cinq six." It comes off as very hip and very fresh. The rest of the tracks are also great. A must buy!

This CD is truly a wonderful work of art! Massimo Ranieri is truly the best there is in Italy! An all around performer from singer, actor, dancer--he is a true artist! Massimo has been doing this since 1964 and he has become a true master of his craft! He never fails to disappoint! He feels deeply for every song he sings not just in Nun E'Acqua but in all his works! He is a true gift! From an admirer for the past 34 years!
