If house music prompts dancing and good times, Rob Boskamp really, really wants to make sure you enjoy yourself. Beyond the boundaries of feel-good glam and unapologetic disco, Groove 2001 keeps you smiling and smiling until your face begins to stretch. Heck, it practically hugs the speakers.

Gliding through quality Latin cuts as the warm up certainly hits the right buttons. Club Fiesta "La Fiesta" remains an understated medal winner, followed hot on its heels with percussion blast-off "Timbales" by Mixmaster. Even an umpteenth variation of KC Flightt's heavily touted "Voices" fits within the puzzle.

Taken over nineteen tracks, though, the long string of upfont, shiny tunes (and an enthusiastic revival of the male vocal) will challenge most listeners' threshold for happiness. Easy enough to take when dance-pop starlings "Music All Over the World" and "I Feel For You" drop by, but over an over for an hour...well, if you're up for it, it's certainly up for you.

The double dose of Full intention is very light and fluffy disco house, but things get a bit harder with Junior's Time Warp mix of Sandy B-at one point, there's pops in the record noticeable if you listen with headphones. The Rosabel Anthem of Jennifer Holliday is definitely an anthem-peak hour build ups and driving riff. Tony Moran mix of Kevin Aviance-awesome. The Junior Vasquez mix of Angel Moraes-well, it's a good junior mix, but the male vocals are painful, as is the melody. Blech. Even so, if you're a huge junior fan, this is one of few CDs that actually has this track, although it doesn't even run 6 minutes on here. Even more male vocals follow, but it's a stunningly pumpin' mix of the pet shop boys by Peter Rauhofer, what is by far the best mix of this song by "The Collaboration." The trippy and danceable mix of "Rocket Man" by Daphe Rubin-Vega of "Rent" fame is hypnotizing. The junior Vasquez mix of "Hide U" is one of few I can kind sort of stand-I'll never understand why this boring track became a huge club hit, by 2 different artists no less. The eddie baez mix of Sir Ivan's cover of John Lennon is catchy in its familiarity, and the final track "Rising" by Elizabeth Withers is, I assume, the same artist as Elle Patrice, because the two names are constantly being interchanged with this song and the track "emotions" that also shows up on various compilations, both produced by Tony Moran-and in the same exact mixes. Either way, Rising is an awesome anthem to end this set. Track times:
