1 out of 5 stars Vienna Idol.......2007-02-07

Two Questions: Was this the audition tape for "Vienna Idol?" and What would Simon Cowell's say?

1 out of 5 stars How sad.......2006-04-16

A terrible try to match Libera. Someone said it right: how dare those people use such marvellous voices to create such ugly
thing? Let Libera deal with amazing new age music, let Vienna Boys Choir continue being masters of their domains: classical music.

1 out of 5 stars Not their style.......2006-03-31

I was expecting something a lot better. One can't fault the choir for the recording. The fault lies with the director, arranger, and producer. The instrumental accompaniment over shadowed the boys singing. The arrangements of each song was too similar, and the boys sounded too restrained for this style. Pop is not the musical style of the Vienna Boys Choir. They need to stick what they do best - classical and sacred music.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps The Greatest Gag Gift Ever!.......2005-12-07

The greatest thing about this CD is that it wasn't meant to be funny! Upon listening to "Burning Down The House", I was seized with a fit of hysterical laughter that nearly broke a rib. And the laughs keep coming. Need a smooth tune for that special gal, try "Fantasy", she will be yours! Need a good jogging tune, "Get Down" should serve your purpose. A CD that will offer hours of entertainment. Guaranteed.

1 out of 5 stars wow - THAT was something!.......2005-10-31

I got this as a gift because my friend saw a holiday cd with Vienna Boys Choir at my house. My advice:listen to the music previews before you buy the cd. It's too freaky for me. Good Luck.

3 out of 5 stars Not very powerful goodbye........2006-09-29

This cd single is very disappointing.
The remixes are not at all interesting.
There is a better remix of this song on the "Ray of Light remixes" cd.
Buy it if you are a fan, otherwise don't bother.
It's a shame, as the song itself is fantastic.

4 out of 5 stars A little mediocre, but that's what it is because of Luke Slater.......2006-06-14

This is the only bad single from "Ray of Light", not because of the song itself, but because of one of the remixes.
1. Album Version (4:13, 10/10): Can't go wrong with this.
2. Dallas' Low End Mix (4:36, 10/10): Really good and more acoustic than the next 2. Reminiscent of TLC's "Fanmail".
3. Luke Slater Super Luper (8:49, 1/10): GOD, this is annoying. And it lasts almost 9 minutes! Great! Thanks a lot, Luke Slater. This is a truly horrendous mix of such a beautiful song. >:( I can see why Madonna never hired him for remixes after this!
4. Fabian's Good God Mix (8:23, 10/10): THIS is what a "POG" club remix should sound like! Take note, Mr. Slater, that one line of vocals does not a remix make. I love this!
Gets 1 star off because of Luke Slater's stupidly-done remix, but still good.

5 out of 5 stars Maxi-single: Power of Goodbye.......2005-02-15

I am a big fan of Madonna. I watched her changed and revolutions herself over the past 20 years. I am I love her Cd, Ray of Light, in fact it changed my life and who I am. I am looking for her max-single of Power of Goodbye. I have the Frozen and Nothing Really Matters (maxi single). Any body has a brand new copy of the Cd and the wrapped casing and looking to sell it, I will be glad to purchase it from you.

5 out of 5 stars There's Nothing Left To Lose..........2004-11-25

The Power of Goodbye is one of Madonna's most beautiful songs to ever come out. This cd is the second best version you can get. The best being the Jappensse version because you get another Remix (Luke Slater's Filtered Mix). All the versions here are great.

1.Album Version: This is my favorite version, of all. No matter how much you remix it, you can't tamper with perfection.

2.Dallas' Low End Mix: This a good version of the song. It is a more simplisitc version. You hear more of the acoustics in this version.

3. Luke Slater Supper Lupper: This is proably my least favorite version. This version sounds like it should be played in a wild dancing club. The only vocals from POG you hear are "Freedom Commes". This version is great to dance to, but not to be considered a remix to "The Power of Goodbye"

4.Fabian's Good God Mix: This version is another dance version, but better than the previous. This version has more lyrics and sounds more like the orginal.

This is a very good version of POG. It is rather hard to find, as most versions of the single are, so if you see I would grab it.

5 out of 5 stars Absoutley Beautiful Song!!!!!!.......2003-08-18

This song is so beautiful!! It is defintley one of Madonna's best songs in my opinion. I think the original version is the best of all, not the stupid remixes!

4 out of 5 stars The Power of Bocelli!!.......2001-11-11

The two most wonderful things for me about this album are 1) the earlier renditions of songs I first heard on ROMANZA, which as a devoted fan are fascinating and historical, and 2) hearing that sweet and powerful voice in English singing The Power of Love...I adore the Italian language and agree that AB has his best sensibilities in his native tongue....but....WOW!!! This one knocked my socks off!!!

5 out of 5 stars This man does it because he loves it, NOT for the money.......2000-12-30

Hell hath no fury like a woman who has a favorite singer then feels that she must give him up. Shaun Greenleaf's wicked review on that blind Pavolian Public s**t really jammed a nail into my head. Sorry, I know everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but whenever someone gives remarks on Bocelli like you did, I go a little crazy. I mean, a LOT crazy. I don't want to diss the Three Tenors either because I heard them before and liked them, but Bocelli was completely different from them all. Even Pavarotti said so himself: Andrea is finer than even him.

So, Mr. Greenleaf, don't show your wrath against Bocelli and insist that we give him up for Carreras, Caruso, Domingo, or any other tenor who's "made a record" if we can't let Bocelli go. If we want to continue to admire him for what he is, we will. In THIS world of so-called "superstars" such as Madonna (at least she's trying to stop being the silly indecent woman she'd always been), 'N Sync, Jennifer López, Ricky Martin, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, in other words, people who show their bodies and girate just to be the big thing (but to be nice to them did something for the public to enjoy) and who don't have the vocal talent that the likes of Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Céline Dion, and even--no big surprise--Sarah Brightman do, a man like our very own Andrea Bocelli who doesn't expose himself to the MTV radioplay media hype gets treated like s**t? I have to speak up for my Bocelli because of that.

I do agree that he's not up to opera standards, I prefer his pop side more than his opera side, but I can't say he's horrible. An Enhanced CD by him would be nice, but then again, who needs an ECD and all sorts of t-shirts and souvenirs to become famous? The Backstreet Boys have been around only five years going on six, and they've plastered themselves on too many things to mention. Hope they come of age someday (like Madonna is) and learn that one doesn't need a whole bunch of things to get to where they want to be. Look at Lauryn Hill. It took her nothing more than superb songwriting and singing talent and positive messages to become successful. And her Miseducation CD didn't even NEED enhanced features.

The same I'd like to say for Bocelli. It's his voice that got him to the level of superstar and little else. My belief is that Andrea, who loves opera, is doing it just because that is his love. When he sings "Vivo per lei" and that music is the one whom he never betrayed, he is absolutely right. He's not doing it for the money (I hope not). Not to say that those teen stunts like BSB and 'N Sync are hell-bound, to be fair to them. I'm just letting you know this.

2 out of 5 stars Bocelli Import Extra.......2000-11-17

Overall album just NOT normal quality. Not worth the money. I love Bocelli so listened again today to Sogno and Romanza and there is no comparison. Albeit, there is a rawness to the voice and simplicity of music that has some appeal.

5 out of 5 stars My souls cried out loud!.......2000-07-28

This album is extremely beautiful! It is now one of my favorites and is very touching to the heart and soul. Andrea's voice is very moving and powerful. It sounds like an angel singing from Heaven! I don't want this song to come out of my head, it's way too perfect to forget!

5 out of 5 stars Donýt feel ashamed, people........2000-07-09

Obviously, I don't own this album, as all except two of these songs are featured on another CD I bought, "Romanza" (it's the bomb!). Those songs from this 1995 follow-up to "Il Mare Calmo Della Sera" nearly gave me an idea as to why Andrea emerged as the most popular classical stunt in America so quickly. I never heard the bilingual version of "Vivo Per Lei" (with Judy Welm), but part of it is in German, and I don't speak German. Nor did I ever hear "The Power of Love" (there have been many songs under this title, hope this one isn't a remake!) or "Sempre, Sempre."

Oh, well. It doesn't really matter, since I already have "Romanza." However, dead-serious Bocelli fans wanting to complete their collection won't care.

5 out of 5 stars Madonna's Crowning Achievement.......2005-09-18

Madonna finally overcame her 90's slump with this single, the best from her 1998 album "Ray Of Light". This stunning song remains one of my favourite songs ever and places at #2 on my Top 100 of all time behind "Losing Grip" from Avril Lavigne.
The dreamy beats are capped off by a stunning vocal performance.
Overall this song will take you on a wonderful journey through every emotion you can think of.

5 out of 5 stars "The Power of Goodbye".......2003-12-17

I must admit when "Ray of Light" came out in 1998, I was less than thrilled, having grown up with the Madonna from "Vogue" and "Take A Bow". However, the third single "The Power of Goodbye", changed my mind and forced me to take another look at the album. Madonna sings beautifully and gives the songs a haunting quality. "The Power of Goodbye" is one of my favorite Madonna songs, talking about the pain of saying goodbye and letting go. The music and lyrics are beautiful, and the video was another inspired piece of art from Madonna. The B Side, "Mer Girl", is a haunting song from the same album that once again deals with the death of Madonna's mother. If you are as touched by "The Power of Goodbye" as I am, you should buy this single today and put it on repeat...

4 out of 5 stars Trippy Cover Art, Pefect songs, but NO MIXES?!?!.......2003-01-04

Power of Good-bye is an extremely great song, with slow guitar melodies and an extremely catchy chorus. It's B side in this single is also very well done, "Mer Girl" encompases Madonna's thoughts on the death of her mother (who died when she was very young). Power of Goodbye reached 11 in the US pop charts, and it was a top ten hit seemingly in all over the rest of the world. The packaging is great, as it comes with a wraparound paper case with a cd slip on the side, with an amazing font to go with the radiant cover art. HOWEVER, the song has no mixes on this single, which I really don't understand. To get mixes you must either get the overpriced import single from Australia, which doesn't come in a real slip case, or the import from Japan which is dramatically overpriced and impossible to find. Even more rare is the single from Europe with only a few mixes. NOTE...even though it says special order above, it ships extremely fast!

5 out of 5 stars the power of this song.......2002-12-28

This song has touched me in so many different ways it is unbelievable , there has never been a day that i have played this song and not melted into the purity and clarity that it brings so passionately......i have pictured amazing , glorious ocean settings just like in the video.....and played out many personal relationships through this song..... for me it is more than a song but a big deep breathe ... so thankyou madonna.
words are endless..... karl

5 out of 5 stars Awesome song.......2002-08-16

This song is beautiful...I'm not usually a fan of Madonna's, but this song just touched my heart because the words are perfect for something I have been going through in my life, having to come to terms with a relationship that ended long, long ago, but still having the leftover feelings. If this describes a situation in your life, you would love this song, too. I think almost everyone has a lost love about whom they wonder "what might have been", and whom they have trouble letting go of.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Lost in the shuffle - great rare power pop.......2005-02-15

A never ending streak of bad luck kept the Deal out of the limelight, and only now are they getting a shred of the recognition they deserve. You can read the story in the liners, but it is almost ridiculous how many label troubles and crazy circumstances kept them from getting the music to the masses. Suffice to say, it was through no fault of the quality of the music, as these demos make up a 4-star album (I would LOVE to hear their official release, Brave new World). Recently, Not Lame records released this necessary gem, including a Billboard songwriting contest runner-up ("5:45") featuring a Todd Rundgren guitar solo. Essential for fans of Shoes, Hawks, Flashcubes, and early Posies.

Best Tracks:
"DC-10's" - The first of many outstanding solos from guitarist Haines Fullerton. This track runs on a bit long but is quite catchy.
"Hopi" - Jangle pop that stands up to the best of the best.
"Pass Away" - Similar to "Hopi" in execution but with a bit more energy and an unbelievably good guitar solo.
"Picture A Lady" - This is the stuff Shoes fans would love to hear more of, it would have fit right in on Present Tense or any of that group's albums.
"5:45" - A blatant crossover attempt that maintains sincerity and unbelievable catchiness. A great song with the usual great vocals.
"Cinnamon Square" - Another catchy song with a bit more atmospheric quality than any of the aforementioned janglers. Simple in execution and loaded with perfect harmonies.

5 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the LIVE album to be released..........2003-10-27

This is an incredible CD showcasing the fantastic powerpop stylings of a band from the University of Virginia in the early '80s. The Deal never got their record deal, and the music has remained hidden from view for almost 20-years. Only bootleg tapes traded among the many frenzied fans kept the word spreading all this time. This CD is the fulfillment of the dreams of these many fans and an incredible GEM of a find for those who follow powerpop music everywhere. Let's hope the rumors of a live cd to be released in the near future are true. The studio tracks of the Deal on Goodbye September are the tip of the iceberg...there is just so much more music, some of it live tapes from the soundboard lying around in closets. The true story of this band will not be known until the world has rocked to the lead guitar flourishes of Haines Fullerton in the song "Fool To You", or the sweet Deal harmonies of "Better Than Happy" or "She's Got A Way", but Goodbye September is a good start and a great introduction. The truly interested can also pick up a copy of the Deal's first effort, an LP or cassette of the album entitled BRAVE NEW WORLD at the band's website, www'dot'thedealband'dot'com. And while the live voice of the band has been silenced by its 1987 breakup, the music lives on in live performance through the all-star lineup of Big Circle, featuring Mark Roebuck of The Deal and Charlie Pastorfield of Skip Castro Band, as well as Rusty Speidel, Tim Anderson, and Jim Ralston. Watch for great things in the future from Big Circle on its new cd to be soon forthcoming.

5 out of 5 stars Long overdue!.......2003-10-24

Consider this CD a small tribute to a band that deserved monumental success--and instead got robbed every time success came into view. Yeah, there are a couple of tracks where the recording values are uneven, but they are included to illustrate the arc of a career. And because this CD samples from across the 10 years or so that the group was together in one form or another, the writing style is varied, something you would have witnessed over the course of a 14 album career instead of a 14 track CD if fate had been kinder. In spite of those qualities, the CD is a must have for fans of power pop. Not the Brittany Spears power pop, but the kind where the lyrics matter and the content is heartfelt. The band is tight. Mark Roebuck was and remains a helluva song writer. Haines Fullerton could play incendiary lead guitar, even more amazing for the fact that he was self taught and didn't read music (or so he once told me, but he was a bit of a joker). Eric, Hugh, Jim, Mike--they all came together with that rare chemistry most musicians only dream about. The hooks on this CD are infectious--there's no doubt the band had great pop sensibilities. Listen to most of the tracks on this CD and you'll agree the band was good, listen to 5:45 and you'll realize they had crossed over to great. One reviewer commented that The Deal's music is "untainted by the decade in which it was created." I couldn't agree more. Most of the music of the 80s is forgettable and I particularly resented the industry's effort to bury the guitar deep in the mix. The Deal, in contrast, are guitar driven and their music is as listenable today as it was 20 years ago--it stands up to and often surpasses anything you'll hear on the radio today.

5 out of 5 stars The Deal Rocks.......2003-10-12

For those of us lucky (and honored) enough to have experienced The Deal in the 80s, this CD release is true validation for what we knew, saw, felt, and lived was the best pop music of the time. But don't be fooled, what was fabulous then, is still amazing now. These guys are good (note present tense) and it's a darn shame for all music lovers that they aren't still together. We can dream. Buy it now!

5 out of 5 stars Review that appeared at Fufkin.com, August 2003 issue.......2003-10-02

"The Deal -- Goodbye September (Not Lame Archive): Not Lame unearths unreleased tracks from powerpop wannabes, who, due to a variety of reasons, were sort of never wases. Though the sonic quality on here is not the best, preserving songs like "DC-10s", which sounds like a collision between 1978-era Shoes (down to the stiff drum rolls) and Bram Tchaikovsky isn't just a nice gesture; it seems obligatory. Though neither reference would include this fatalist bon mot: "if this is all I have to live for/I want to die." Troy Elliot's liner notes provide plenty of background on a band that was conversant in various pop-rock styles. Their primary weapons were their low key harmony vocals that were smooth and sweet, without being too much of either, and Haines Fullerton, who dashes off an assortment of memorable lead guitar figures that provide little extra bits of catchiness throughout. While the recordings here (two of the sessions at the Bearsville studio) aren't lo-fi, since this stuff was never prepped for release, it was not subjected to the gloss that was glopped on to records of the time. Which means that this stuff actually sounds better having avoided that treatment -- it allows the music to retain its sense of proportion. Whether it's nifty wimp pop like "Hopi" (imagine a twee Mental As Anything) or the intent "Marianne", which has a chord structure reminiscent of Husker Du's "Never Talking to You Again" before heading into sunnier territory, and "Maybe I'll Just Keep Hanging On", which merits further positive Bram Tchaikovsky/Shoes comparisons, the band had the right hooks at the right time. A couple tunes on the latter half of the disc are kinda dull, but songs like "Cinnamon Square" and "5:45" (the track starts like a soulless hit single, but the band's sincerity and heartfelt hook won out) show that songwriter Mark Roebuck never ran out of good ideas. This was definitely worth compiling and preserving. notlame.com"

5 out of 5 stars Your Heart Must Be Open To This Single.......2004-12-17

"The Power of Goodbye" is one of Madonna's best songs to date. This cd has no spectacular songs on it, but the cd is the real gem. It is a picture cd. The cd has the same image as the cover, but with a blue background; it is gorgeous. All the remixes on this cd, you can get on the German Single and Japanese Remix Cd.

1. "Power of Goodbye" (Album Version): The best version I have ever heard. You can not improve this version.

2. "Little Star" (Album Version): This song is from the album Ray of Light. It is a nice song about Madonna's daughter.

3. "Power of Goodbye" (Dallas Low End Mix): This is a mix by one of Madonna's producers on Bedtime Stories: Dalllas Austin. This is basically an alternate single version. The acoustics in the song really come out more than the album. It is tame and simplisitc.

In the UK, The Power Of Goodbye was the fourth of five singles to be taken from the amazing album Ray Of Light. The song peaked at No.6 in December 1998, and spent a total of nine weeks on the chart. It was yet another successful top 10 hit for Madonna, the Queen of Pop, who seemingly has no end to her string of highly successful CD singles. The song was the third single to be released from the Ray Of Light album in America, and was a moderate hit.

The Power Of Goodbye starts off slowly and softly with a moody and haunting beat. It then picks up and Madonna then starts singing the first verse, "Your heart is not open so I must go. The spell has been broken I loved you so. Freedom comes when you learn to let go, creation comes when you learn to say no. You were my lesson I had to learn. I was your fortress you had to burn. Pain is warning that something's wrong. I pray to God that it won't be long. You wanna go higher?" Madonna's vocals are extremely professional and just sonically marvellous. They sound almost operatic. Madonna then sings the chorus, "There's nothing left to try. There's no place left to hide. There's no greater power than the power of goodbye." It's a short chorus, but very effective and you can sing along to it anytime. Madonna then sings the second verse, "Your heart is not open so I must go. The spell has been broken I loved you so. You were my lesson I had to learn. I was your fortress." Madonna then sings the chorus once more, before the song takes a new twist. A guitar winds the song down, twisting around the simplistic arrangement, before Madonna sings "Learn to say goodbye. I yearn to say goodbye." An epic set of violins then play and the song is just wonderfully euphoric. The beat is fantastic, and the violins are very classy. Madonna then sings the chorus a few more times, and the song fades out and ends.

The video to The Power Of Goodbye is very good. We see Madonna in a beach house by the side of the sea. The waves crash onto cliffs, and she sits in a room with a long, flowing green dress on. Her hair is long and dark, and she looks very serious and moody. She looks gorgeous as she plays a game of chess with a man. He wins, but Madonna wipes the board. They both stand and kiss passionately. Madonna is confused and runs out to sea, before seemingly jumping in and disappearing into the night. A strange concept, but one that works very well. All in all, a fantastic Madonna song with a classy video to accompany it.

5 out of 5 stars Susan Robkin's got it all!.......2000-10-27

I first caught on to the sounds of Susan Robkin when she lived in Nashville. It seems a move to Seattle has improved on an already multi-talented singer/songwriter.

The voice of Susan Robkin is one that can not be contained in a single singing style. For that reason, every song on her new album, how to say goodbye, is like ear candy. Each song sucks you in and spits you out only to be drawn in again and again by each subsequent track.

The first time I listened to the CD, I was actually drawn to tears by some of the lyrics, so well chosen that it seems she must truly know the subject matter of the broken hearted and love-starved.

"how to say goodby," "you won't change" and "sunflower" are my three favorite songs, but I frequently find myself humming the tune of "carry me" as I go about my day. I also enjoy the second, more jazzy version of "fall from grace."

This album runs the gammut of musical styles. From pop to funk and jazz to accoustal rhyrthms, the musical guitar strains of Jess and Joshua Gaedtke take the whole project to a higher level - working in tandem with Susan's voice to deliver a CD that will continually live on in rotation of my preferred top six selection in my CD stereo magazine.

Take a chance on an up-and-coming star from Seattle. You won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars POP! shouldnt say goodbye.....awesome song and group...........2005-04-01

i did a review on their hit "serious", and thought id give it a go on this one as well. this song is real HOT and has a great dance beat. this one should definately be pumped out in public.the mixes are a bit long...wish their were edits like some cd singles have but the original vers and mixes are still good. so if youre a POP! fan; buy this one before you can't since the group is no longer. it really sucks that an awesome group like this has been let loose. i hope the members of the group reform in some other way or put out their own music, cause i know they will do well. well hope the rest of you get to experience the sound of POP! while it is still available. enjoy!!
