Silk Road Cafe
Silk Road Cafe
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
The Silk Road Café is a place where East meets West in a heady cocktail of sophisticated modern grooves and Asian-inspired beats. While the contributing artists represent countries far from the route that Marco Polo traveled, the music is reminiscent of caravans and camels, scimitars and scented oils, belly dancers and dancing palm trees.
The Silk Road Café is a cozy mingling of urban sophisticates and the sensual pleasures from the East. An exotic watering hole where the curious adventurer can take a carpet ride through different moods and rhythms, from downtempo and chilled to a toe-tapping and infectious.

A solid eastern-flavoured ethno-electronica mix.......2005-04-01
The track selection on this CD is really quite impressive. Although I've never heard of any of the artists, the disc locks onto a consistent sound and the album plays out like it was written and performed by the same band. Kudos to the music selector!
It's a nice mix of ethno-electronica with plenty of tablas and deep bassy beats that work as excellent background music. Minus one star because a couple songs rely on some slightly cheesy sounding Bollywood-esque samples, and because this mix suffers a little by comparison to the superior "Arabesque" compilation, which offers a wider breadth of Eastern musical styles and instrumentation. These are minor criticisms, though; this is a very enjoyable disc.
