5 out of 5 stars Another great release from Dillinja and Lemon D.......2006-06-01

Dillinja and Lemon D have put out another disc of amazing drum n' bass! It's always amazing that Dillinja doesn't enjoy the same popularity in the USA as he does in his native UK. That serves to make his CDs pretty pricey, but don't worry - it's more than worth the money. Dillinja has come a long way since the gritty days of Warrior Jazz and Thugs. While those tracks are classics, the new material is immaculately produced and has some of the most amazing bass production I've ever heard. If you own a subwoofer, you MUST buy this album immediately! It doesn't matter what your system is - sealed box, ported, bandpass, it all sounds great. Certain tracks work better for different systems and, chances are, you'll find something that really shows off your system.

The songs are nothing especially groundbreaking. They typically begin with 1:30-2:00 minutes of introduction before the drums and bass kick in. These tracks aren't the most amazingly developed compositions, but that isn't really even the point. They hit and they hit hard. Nothing but amazing drum n' bass.

As with Big Bad Bass, Killa Hertz comes with a mixed and unmixed disc. As an added bonus, there is also a DVD containing interviews, live footage, a montage showing the Valve Sound System, and a really insightful song-by-song commentary where Dill and Lemon D say a few words about their respective tunes. The disc is supposed to be NTSC compatible, but I haven't been able to get it to play in any of my DVD players other than my computer. This leads me to believe that it IS region 1 compatible, but not NTSC. You should be able to play it in any computer. Just don't be disappointed if it doesn't work with your TV.

This is an awesome release from two of the coolest drum n' bass producers on the planet. Check it out!

5 out of 5 stars Drum and Bass.......2005-01-07

Really good cd of drum and bass. It makes you want to move I guess. It pumps you up. Worth getting if you like bass.

4 out of 5 stars Great Album By The Duo - Dillinja and Lemon D.......2004-06-17

Lemon D and Dillinja make a great DnB album together on their Valve Record label. Dillinja, as always, comes with his up-in-your-face driving bass lines, and Lemon D comes with a more melodic approach to production.

What is great about this CD is it comes with mixed and unmixed versions of the songs/tracks, which you don't get if you have bought the Killa Hertz album on vinyl; and you also get a bonus DVD as well. Now you can finally see the infamous Valve soundsystem, if you haven't seen it live.

A good album with many good tracks, even though some may be a little too repetitive after hearing it numerous times -- like Program One.
Overall, a good investment.

      3 out of 5 stars Good.......2005-06-19

I was expecting more too from dillinja before i heard this album. But i still like it because its not a complete let down. Sometimes the beats can feel like they drag on in some dillinja tracks, but they are still nice to listen to. I respect him because it is hard to make these sounds and dirty distortion from scratch into melodies. I would still recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear it, its not dillinjas best, but still worth it. If you want the king of technical production though, thats Andy C lol. Later!

      3 out of 5 stars It's okay.......2004-08-09

I agree with views such as those of "Nick (Sydney, NSW Australia)":

I believe that Dillinja is an integral part of Drum & Bass's progression to the genre's well-deserved popularity. I certainly enjoy the music greatly.

I bought 'Cybotron' after reading around the Net, that this was a ground-breaking and uncompromising piece of Drum & Bass art. However, my personal preference is for less vocals (much less) and for more driving, melodic and all-but unrelenting music!

So, after many months of wishing to experience the "Valve sound", filled with expectations of dark, apparently "filthy" music, I was somewhat disappointed by the overtly vocal-based songs.

Lesson learned: definitely find samples of the music before buying.

      3 out of 5 stars What a shame..........2002-05-16

Looked foward to the release of this CD for some time. On the whole its a bit disappointing. The first couple of tracks sound great on initial play but after a while they lack the mood and depth of previous Dillinja tracks and become boring and repetetive. Later on the album tracks such as "Why" and the title track "Cybotron" meld into the same simplistic D&B and become nothing but annoying. I expected alot more from Dillinja: An artist whose previous works such as "Silver Blade" were sylistic, dark and threatening.A better buy is Goldies "Goldie.co.uk" album.

      4 out of 5 stars badass.......2001-11-03

No, this album doesnt make me melt as much as Dillinjas old work, e.g. Ghost Stories, You Don't Know (remix), Deadly Deep Subs, or Deeper Love - but its still damn good.

While it may be reasonably stylistically generic, its the style that Dillinja himself invented. Pop vocals and sweet sounding synths get utterly pummeled by banging breaks and just the filthiest of filthy basslines. Its like the most hardcore sounding r'n'b ever made. :)

Production-wise its just nuts, noone touches this mans sound, hes the king of *angry bass* as far as I'm concerned. The tracks alternate between hard, and very-hard - there isn't a huge stylistic range of material here, but theres many killer killer tracks.

And I can't overstate just how *rude* sounding it is... filthy filthy FILTHY. My god...

3 out of 5 stars dont believe the hype!!!!!Its all been done before!!!!!.......2001-10-19

Look people, everyone's been waiting for this cd,its been hyped to the sky...listen before you buy,I warn you...its good yes,but it doesnt break any new ground at all,and if you've been listening to junglist /dnb at all for the last 5 years you've heard all this before. It's good no doubt, but actually to tell the truth, its a cliche..nothing new here I'm afraid,,,,

when are these guys gonna come up with something fresh? Some call this futuristic funk, and his company is called valve records in homage to the old valve sound old UK roots soundsystems like Jah Shaka use...if you gonna pay homage to spiritual bass explorers like Jah Shaka, well, you beter make sure your product lives up to it....This one MOST DEFINITELY does not!

Is it good?Yes,certainly,it's not bad...Is it fresh? No....dont believe the hype my friends, and be careful before paying out for this one....its all been done before, and been done better too....

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.......2001-01-31

In some cases you can judge a book (or CD) by its cover... don't expect perfection from a $10 CD with cheap cartoony art on the cover. Most of these tracks are nothing special, and they sound a few years old. That said, I'm still glad I picked it cause I really like tracks 1, 2, and 8. As long as you know this is a mediocre compilation you might be pleasantly surprised with a couple of the tracks but if you're looking for a quality D&B mix look elsewhere!

5 out of 5 stars These tunes are 5 and 6 years old, folks.......2001-01-19

This album is great, but I can't see why they are putting it out now. I guess it is a bit of a money grab. I don't mind, cause jungle this good (yes, these tunes are from back when it was called jungle) is practically timeless. But then again, when there's a tearout amen-and-terrorist-bass tune called "Back To Chicago" from one of my favorite producers, I might be a bit biased

        2 out of 5 stars They just didn't care.......2000-11-20

The recipe: Take the dope beats and epic treble from King of the Jungle. Add five gallons of nothing. Stir until thin.

Now you have King of the Jungle 2.

Those of you who got a kick out of King of the Jungle: you won't necessarily hate this, but you should approach it with extreme caution. There're no "Dance Hall Massive" party anthems here, no high-energy romps to rival "Merder Style," no sweeping rapture of "Feel It" or "Come Back 2 Me," no epic chase themes like "Jazz Note" or "Hold Me," no phat little breakz to equal "Twisted Brain" or "So Good," no eerie inward journies along the lines of "The Quickening." And there's definitely no match for that hilarious send-up of jungle (a parody that should make Weird Al green with envy), "Maximum Style Dub Plate." It's not that the album's bad; it's just boring, and even after twenty or so listenings I still can't tell one track from another.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I think I hear "Money in Yer Pocket" calling.

        3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2000-11-14

I think this CD is nothing new, with a heavy raga flavor, these unmixed tracks are monotone and very formulaic. I even think some of the people who made it simply needed some money, so they through together some uninspired songs they've been dicken with and slapped a goofy title on it (you can tell from the freakin' cover this album's a joke). It goes to show you that albums still sell simply because of hype and producer names, don't be fooled, I know I was! But still, song # 5 is good, and some others have their points, so if you do have some money to spare give it a try, but don't expect too much.

4 out of 5 stars heavy dirty bass.......2005-06-19

This album has some good tracks on it. Some are not as good, but its worth checking out. Dillinjas got some dirty distorted basslines that will make your speakers work hard. He is a good producer and I respect him for coming up with these sounds which a lot of people might think is easy until they try making DnB. Anyway, if you like the hard, heavy, banging DnB, this is a good lp. Cybertron is worth picking up too. Later!

4 out of 5 stars Great for DNB heads, not great for anyone else.......2002-12-09

I got this a while back and I must say this is hard music only appropriate for true ravers. As is the case with most Dillinja releases, there are a lot of recycled patterns and sounds. However, with this release they are bringing the bass and soundclash to a new level. There are some great tracks and some so so tracks on here, I will let you decide that. I will just say this, if you loved "Tudor Rose, "Deadly Deep Subs," "Grimey," and "Angles rmx" you will love this...if you didn't recognize any of those tracks I would probably bypass this, as it is not your sound.

        3 out of 5 stars Ouch!.......2002-07-01

Never has there been a more descriptive album title.
This is Dillija and LemonD at their nastiest, although a few of Lemon D's cuts are quite musical; jazzy and at times a bit housy.
However the remainder of Lemon D's contribution here finds him in dirtier mood than usual. I found that his tracks are the more diverse and complex here.
The other half is Karl in precisely the form we have come to expect of him over the past couple of years. Here the culmination of his work over this period and developing sound is fully realized and does not disapoint. Do not expect any lovely vocals or musical elements(not even to the extent to which they are featured on last years "Cybotron" LP, or his recent works on V) this is just heavy Beats and Bass. Dillija's production here is predominantly steppy drum programming with scarcely an amen in sight, and hammering Bass kicks. Making this LP more of a primer for the boys' Valve soundsystem and showcase of recent floorkillers, than an artists' album.
This album is a collection of tunes that amount to 60 second blasts of Dancefloor devastation peppered with a few tracks of surprising listenablility at home or in the car.
DJ's-you already have this. Punters-well, you probably have this too.
Casual listeners-I would recomend something with a bit more diversity, to the new listener; this is not really a good starting point either. Unless you have 15"s in your ride and you want to scare the living [stuff] out of the old ladies at the bus stop, or if you want to get evicted, get some large speakers and play this at 2am...or any other time for that matter.
Overall this LP is worth it for the astounding quality of the bass for the afficionado, or the lover of bass ready to realize the latest accomplishment of the pioneer of the final frontier of this narrow persuit.
