The cynic may question just how many Beach Boys greatest hits albums are enough. Everyone else, however, will appreciate what makes Sounds of Summer unique. This is the first single-disc collection to feature such a large cross section of hits from the group's entire career, spanning 1962's "Surfin' Safari" through 1988's "Kokomo." All 30 tracks, spanning several label changes, were Billboard Top 40 hits and are probably now as identifiable as the national anthem to anyone with radio or TV access. The fact that the tracks aren't in chronological order helps make for a fresh listening experience, as does the crisp digital sound. And yet these songs--even those that are more than four decades old--always sound strangely fresh and will likely remain so as long as there are beaches, young people, and that symbolic season of freedom and dreams. Which is to say that the title here passes the "truth in advertising" test. Perfect for those casual fans not yet ready to spring for the individual albums, Sounds of Summer is in many ways a better representation of this legendary band's art than Elvis' 30 No. 1 Hits and The Beatles 1 were of the King and the Fab Four. --Bill Holdship

5 out of 5 stars Summer music is here --- again!.......2007-06-14

These are summer classics and to hear them again is a such a joy! It brings you back to the 60's (for those of us who remember the 60's). I bet the young people of today would get a kick out of listening to a pristine version of Surfin' USA, I Get Around, and some of the other classics.

Don't Worry, Baby is a personal favorite but it's the mono version. However, listening to it on a nice set of speakers makes it sound like it's in stereo. I would have liked "Warmth of the Sun" included in this collection but hey, 30 of the best Beach Boys songs on one CD, I'm not complaining!

5 out of 5 stars The perfect Beach Boys collection for casual fans.......2007-06-14

Casual fans will find this to be the ultimate collection of the Beach Boys music as it contains all of the band's top 40 hits. 30 classic tunes from 1962 all the way to 1988 are here on a single CD with top-notch sound quality, rare photos of the band, and a nice essay inside the CD booklet. All of the early surf classics that everyone knows are presented along with lesser-known later hits that are just as worthy such as "I can hear music", "Do it Again", "Wild Honey", and "Getcha Back".

However, since this CD contains only the band's "top 40 singles", serious fans will find this collection a little less appealing since some of the Beach Boys' best music {including many good recordings after 1966} never made the top 40. Several of these songs such as "Let him run wild", "Catch a Wave", "Warmth of the Sun", and "Girls on the Beach" are not included in this otherwise excellent collection. Much of this worthy lesser-known material has just been reissued on the new highly recommended compilation "The Warmth of the Sun".

This is only a minor issue of course since "Sounds of Summer" is surely one of the most comprehensive greatest hits collections ever released by any band. ALL of the Beach Boys hit singles are here on one disc, which makes this an essential CD for every Beach Boys fan.

5 out of 5 stars Must have.......2007-06-13

If you're not one that already owns every Beach Boy record, this is one that you'll want to pick up. With 30 tracks it's a great survey of the Beach Boys from way back then up until some of there more recent stuff. If you're not familiar with the Beach Boys, you'll probably be amazed at the number of tracks on this CD that you've heard before and are familiar with, but didn't quite make the connection that all that good stuff came from the Beach Boys.

5 out of 5 stars Great Seller.......2007-06-12

Service was excellent and product in excellent condition. Would love to do business with seller again.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sounds!.......2007-06-09

For those of us who remember crusing down the highway with the radio blasting, you can't beat this CD. You just have to sing along. It's a reminder of the times when music was exciting and fun. It's simply great music.

The Daredevil soundtrack provided a nice boost for this previously unknown quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas. Evanescence's songs "My Immortal" and the imposing "Bring Me to Life" are clear standouts in the film, mainly because they work so well with the dramatic, eerie undertones of the storyline. They reappear here on the band's debut, alongside a selection of similarly brooding tracks that evoke pensive artists like Tori Amos and the Cranberries. Vocalist Amy Lee has the kind of voice that can cause weeks of insomnia, but on songs like "Tourniquet" and "Haunted" she belies the music's sinister mood with evenhanded spirituality, thoughtfully letting some light shine through the tempest. --Aidin Vaziri

    5 out of 5 stars Indispensable.......2007-07-09

This is one of the very best CDs ever made, and one of the ONLY ones I've ever found that I can listen to from beginning to end and never skip past a single song. I think there's maybe four or five others in the world that I can say that about, and I listen to almost all types of music, from Mozart to Enya to Tool to Billie Holiday to Simon and Garfunkel to Staind to... anyway, it's a masterpiece. Some music snobs like to turn up their noses at Evanescence and mock those who listen to them because they're generally thought of as "Teenage Goth", but I have a message for them: GET OVER YOURSELVES!! BY BEING NARROW MINDED YOU ARE ONLY DEPRIVING YOURSELVES OF SOME OF THE BEST, MOST HAUNTING MUSIC YOU COULD ASK FOR!! I listen to this CD ALOT and I never get tired of it. Amy Lee is amazing! TRY IT!!!

5 out of 5 stars Light in the Darkness.......2007-07-03

Fans of bands like Nightwish, The Gathering, Lennon Murphy and Lacuna Coil are either rejoicing or cursing Evanescence. Their brand of atmospheric gothic rock / metal is quite comparable to all bands mentioned above yet they are the ones in the Billboard Top 10 Album chart.

"Bring Me To Life" is a stunning track on its own merit that could stand to lose the male pseudo rap-rock vocal yelling "Wake Me Up". (If you hear the demo version without the male vocal you will understand) I find it amusing that fans of bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are buying this disc just on the basis of this track alone only to realize that the rest of the disc is moody, dark journey into the belly of various beasts. Nevertheless, Amy Lee has a haunting voice that layers beautifully over gothic rock/metal passages much like Tarja, Anneke, Christina, and Tori Amos. "Haunted" is a short, but remarkable track that allows Amy's vocals to breathe chilling words of despair. Just read the cold words to "Imaginary" and you wonder what exact demon tortures the writer's (Ben Moody) soul.

Overall, this disc is way too deep and thought provoking for its target audience. For those of us that have supported this style of music for years, please don't pass judgment against this disc until you have experienced the overall enchantment within its 11 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Amy Lee: The most underrated voice in music today.......2007-06-27

I remember when "Bring me to life" started playing regularly on a local rock station a few years ago. I thought it was a pretty cool song and liked the vocals of female singer Amy Lee, who seemed to have a wide range and yet still able to have somewhat of an overall mystique to her sound that I still have a hard time describing to this day. At that point a friend of mine loaned me the CD, but upon the first couple of listens I put it back without a second thought.

After selling 14 million copies worldwide and having a strong sophomore release with "The Open Door", I decided to give Evanescence another chance, returning to the debut album "Fallen". Sometimes it takes giving an album a second chance to make a first impression, and this time around I guess I was ready to embrace a band that was deemed as Goth Metal by the masses, but had a female vocalist that was able to help them rise above the all too familiar growl and dirge vocal efforts that usually fall into this category. Strong singles that stand out to me start out with Track 1 in "Going Under", which has a nice, simple guitar piece that has enough grind to stay down in the darker, more brooding sounds of this style of music. Track 6 is a tune called "Tourniquet" and has some eerie tones that help it start out before breaking into a clean, balanced attack of guitars and percussion. The overall structure of this album is great, and although I said there are several singles I like, I will just sum it up by saying there is something great about every song on this album.

What really is a selling point for me, however, is the lead singer Amy Lee. Amy's voice is poetic in deliverance of the songs and has a great overall emotional connection with the music, while at the same time her range allows her to add a lot of diversity to each and every song throughout the album. Overall you have a powerful set of music that rocks when it has to, and has some piano melody to add to the mix (Track 6 and 9 in particular) that I feel sets it apart from a lot of the genre's and classifications that people have been trying to put it in. If you are not much into newer "Nu-Metal" or what have you, but enjoy some of the progressive metal sounds and intricate approaches of such musicians, you just might find Evanescence to your liking. As stated before, it took me a few years to "come back" and discover them, but the wait was worth it and I look forward to any new releases this band has to offer.

    1 out of 5 stars Overdramatic Crap.......2007-06-24

This album is a bunch of teenage overdramatic crap. Amy Lee's vocals are too overdramatic, and most of the lyrics sound like what would come out of a teenagers jounral about how depressing things are. I can't belive some people call this metal or goth music, it is neither. This album is way too comericalized, the music is itself is nothing too write home about. Alot of this album sounds like it was thrown together in about 5 minutes, with not much thought behind it. If you want TRUE metal stick with old school metallica, megadeth,testament,pantera(r.i.p. Dimebag),slayer, and fear factory. Avoid this album if you are a TRUE metal fan, you will be dissapointed.

    Amazon.com essential recording

If you need some pointy-headed pundit to sell you on the merits of Pet Sounds, your money might be better spent on an ear specialist. Brian Wilson's gift to 20th-century music elevated this pop album into a beguiling musical and emotional cogency that still operates outside pop culture's fickle space-time continuum--and limited critical lexicon. There's never been another record to compare (Rubber Soul, its inspiration, is close; Sgt. Pepper's, its response, misses the point), and certainly no album has been as dissected, overanalyzed, and predigested for public consumption. In 1997 Capitol Records devoted an entire four-disc box set, The Pet Sounds Sessions, to its thorough deconstruction. The techno-marvel centerpiece of that project--the album's first true stereo mix, painstakingly conjured out of multitape session sources by producer-engineer Mark Linett (under Wilson's supervision)--was at once heresy and revelation. Now the label has gratifyingly seen fit to offer both mixes on a single disc (along with alternate versions of "Hang On to Your Ego," the original title of "I Know There's An Answer"), an idea that should please the orthodox and heretics alike. And while the album has always clearly been The Brian Wilson Show featuring the Beach Boys, David Leaf's concise new notes attempt to be more inclusive of a wider band perspective. The result (three of the five band members claim credit for the album title) sometimes resembles Rashomon. If Pet Sounds forever crystallized the band's various creative (in)differences, it also became Wilson's grand karmic joke on his band mates; its burgeoning reputation (Mojo magazine's panel of pop experts once elected it greatest album of all time) guaranteed they would sing its songs--and praises--until the end. And if putting two different versions of the same album on one disc seems like overkill, look at the bright side: it's a perfect excuse to listen to the glorious Pet Sounds twice. --Jerry McCulley

    3 out of 5 stars Good.......2007-07-12

This is a good album. Thus said, I don't see it deserving being on any top 10 or even top 50 list of greatest albums ever.

3 out of 5 stars Food For Thought.......2007-06-16

First of all, I understand that I am suppose to like this album.

    I keep trying . . . and I get nowhere.

Well, okay, not nowhere . . . but certainly not where everyone else says I should be.

This is not a rock album.

    This is overkill.

This is a bunch of studio musicians (maybe the finest in the land) doing layer after layer of unique and different sounds.

You can pet them if you like.

    Not me.

The problem is, there are so many layers of fat that the genius of Brian Wilson is lost somewhere in the digestive "track".

This album does not satisfy my hunger . . . but it undoubtedly satisfied the overweight ego of a true musical genius.

This album has more to do with Phil Spector and his "wall of sound" than anything else.

Whenever I listen to this "mound of flesh", I always long for the leaner-meaner sounds of rock n' roll.

I can think of at least forty albums from the late-sixties that I prefer over this one.

Ones that I think have more merit.

In any case, this album is an acquired taste.

    It is not required eating.

I, for one, would rather be sitting at a "Beggars Banquet" and listening to something with a few less calories.

Before, during and after meals, The Beach Boys were never considered all that hip to begin with.

They certainly NEVER represented "My Generation".

Simply the best album of the XX century, it was recorded in 1966 but we can hear it today and sounds very recent, just as if it was recorded last week, an album that can sound that good is really good.

There is no doubt on Brian Wilson's genius, this albums proves it.

With an "alright, this time it's for real" promise, Toby Mac turns the keys of the ignition and hits the gas on Portable Sounds, his third and most impressive solo effort to date. The musician-producer sounds more confident and comfortable than ever before, deftly mixing elements of rap, rock, pop, R&B, funk, and even a little reggae into a deliciously creative entrée. Some of the "joints on this record" - as Toby Mac's boy TruDog calls them - fall more into one style or another. Yet the world party sound that Toby Mac introduced on his previous Diverse City is built upon here with the opening "One World" as well as "No Ordinary Love." Pop flavors more tracks than before with guitar-driven numbers like "Made to Love," "I'm For You," and the infectious "Suddenly." Fans will also be pleased as TruDog is indeed back on the ridiculously cute "Hype Man." Urgent rockers like "Ignition" and the silky smooth "Lose My Soul" give even more spice and variety to liven up an already electric mix. The latter track is finely tuned with guest vocals from Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac pal Mandisa. Much like Sting, Toby Mac has transcended a former identity (as part of the D.C. Talk super group) and grown into an artist worthy of merit on his own. Portable Sounds stands up to repeated listens with a fresh and energetic sound and a buoyant and unapologetic joy seldom heard. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars Made to love Him!!!.......2007-07-11

TobyMac is one third of Christian Rock group DC Talk, and "Portable sounds" is his third solo CD. It follows up the gold selling "Diverse city", and like its predecessor, features a diversity in sound and strong Christian lyrics. The CD debuted at #10 on Billboard's album charts.

Opening is the soul/funk horn sprinkled "One world", a celebratory song with rapped verses urging all God's children to "Come as you are" and "Come together in love".

The melodic "Made to love" is rockier (with a reggae bridge) and wouldn't sound out of place on a DC Talk album (it reminds me of "What have we become" from "Jesus Freak"), with lyrics about the essence of our creation; "I was made to find you/I was made just for you/Made to adore you/I was made to love". Similar in sound is the funk/rocker "I'm with you".

"Boomin'/Opera trip" is a loud guitar driven funk work out, with an operatic outro. "Face of the Earth/Chuck @ Artist Development" is a midtempo acoustic song with rapped verses and a catchy chorus.

"No ordinary love" is a horn peppered upbeat boy-band sounding song with additional vocals by Nirva Dorsaint-Ready. "Feelin' so fly" is similar.

"Ignition" as its name infers is a blistering rocker, while "Suddenly" is a sunny sounding retro rocker with a catchy guitar riff and refrain.

"All in (letting go)/Mr Talkbox" is a midtempo guitar driven song (the closest thing to a ballad on this CD) with nice harmonies, and closing is the soulful "Lose My Soul/Afterparty" with Kirk Franklin (who also appeared on TobyMac's debut "Momentum") & Mandisa, with lyrics eschewing materialism for spirituality.

I must confess I prefer "Diverse city", but this comes very close to that brilliant album.

    5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-06-29

This man continues to blow me away with his God centered heart felt inspirational music! I have to say I enjoyed this offering more than his others and I thoughts his others were awesome. He kicks it up a notch from Diverse City with Portable Sounds. I know people want to see DC Talk gete back together, but in my oppinion Toby Mac is doing quite well on his own. Seperatelly the 3 DC Talk guys are spreading the Gospel better than as a group. Buy Portable Sounds today!

    5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-06-27

When I bought this CD, I wasn't sure it could be as good as Diverse City. I still think Diverse City is his best...but just barely. This CD is excellent with songs like Made to Love, I'm for You, and One World. No Signal is funny, too.

4 out of 5 stars Toby Delivers Again.......2007-06-20

Back with his third solo album, tobyMac doesn't disappoint. He delivers a disc filled with catchy songs, and on this outing he sings more than he rhymes, which is a welcome change of pace because he sings well, and the rap-core style is becoming a bit outdated. The lead-off single, "Made to Love" features an infectious chorus, as well as live strings and horns that add a cool sound to the mix. Other standouts are "I'm For You", and "Face of the Earth." The track "Boomin" is exactly that, and "Ignition" also provides fans with a high octane anthem. Another strong cut is "Lose My Soul", a prayerful duet with Kirk Franklin that emphasizes focusing on God in the face of the cares of the world. If you've liked Toby's solo stuff in the past, or dc Talk for that matter, this is for you.

3 out of 5 stars Some Good Songs, Some Not So Good.......2007-06-12

As a big dcTalk fan, I have been regularly disappointed by the solo albums of the trio. Their individual stuff is just not in the same league. It is a great example of the whole being far greater than the sum of its parts.

In spite of that, this album, like most of the group member's solo albums has some good songs on it. Two of the more pop sounding songs, 'Made To Love' and 'I'm For You' are very good. Another one that I enjoy is 'Lose My Soul' which has a genre that is a bit hard to classify for me.

Although I don't think it's a great album, the message is very good and the parts that I don't like are probably more just a matter of taste. My teenage daughter likes it quite a lot.

    Amazon.com's Best of 2000

Jill Scott's debut, Who Is Jill Scott?, is a luscious portrait of the artist as a grown woman. In R&B, black femininity has often been reduced to two dimensions: sex and materialism. But Scott lives in 3-D, and it shows in her voluptuous songwriting. She combines a beautiful voice with an extreme generosity of spirit, making her music a dreamy, soulful delight. Lizz Mendez Berry

    Amazon.com

Jill Scott is the singer-songwriter who wrote the unforgettable hook on the Roots' "You Got Me." Jill Scott is a better singer than the garble-mouthed Erykah Badu, who mangled those lines (albeit prettily) on the Roots' single. If Scott had sung them (which she does, and marvelously so, on the group's live album, The Roots Come Alive), we would have known what the hell the words were. Thankfully, Jill Scott has put out her own album, which exceeds all hook-derived expectations. She is, in fact, a wonder--a magically soulful tunesmith who writes tunes like "The Way" and "Watching Me" that feel as comfortable, warm, and sexy as Al Green on a cold day. And then she rips into the songs' haunting melodies with a gorgeous honey-crisp alto that'll leave you wanting more. --Sylvia W. Chan

Jill Scott is a genius. Her voice is earthy, soft, powerful, flawless....mixed in with her poetic flair...this album is sexy, inspirational, and just somthing to sit back and groove to. Its mainly for mature listeners, but few young fans like myself can appreciate Jill Scott's many talents. Her music inspires your mind and turns you on, with her romantic and sexy poetry. She's the first of ther kind, with many artists following her pathway. Im not sure if she won grammy's for one but its Grammy worthy. I have all her albums and this is by far my favorite one.

5 out of 5 stars Where is the GOOD R&B?.......2007-05-02

If one would listen to the "hot" or "popular" so-called R&B artists one would think it's dead or dying. Jill reminds us that it isn't. And it's not that her music needs labeling. It's just good rhythm and blues. REAL R&B music.

Beyonce and Chris Brown are not in my collection so you know where my tastes lie. I like people like Chaka Khan, Patti Austin, Heather Headley, Anita Baker and Luther Vandross. This is part of that. GOOD DARN REAL Music with musicians not someone singing about dumb stuff over a $20 drum machine and calling themselves "producing".

A composer WROTE these songs and a VOCALIST sang them.

Like Nickel Creek and the Duhks (and Alison Krauss and Union Station before them), Crooked Still employ bluegrass elements as a springboard for an eclectic, expansive dynamic. Behind the sweetly ethereal and occasionally jazzy vocals of Aoife O' Donovan, the interplay of Gregory Liszt's banjo, Rushad Eggleston's cello (both bowed and flatpicked), and Corey DiMario's double bass gives the young New England band a sound that is closer to chamber-grass than hoedown. Though none of the material on this label debut is original, the transformations typically are, with the murder balladry of "Little Sadie" given a surprisingly sprightly reading, Bob Dylan's early "Oxford Town" taken at double-time speed, and Robert Johnson's "Come On in My Kitchen" sounding more meditative than bluesy. The band and veteran producer Lee Townsend enlist a number of guests for harmony and instrumental support, but it's plain that the drummerless quartet has the talent and musical vision to deliver on this album's considerable promise. --Don McLeese

    5 out of 5 stars hauntingly beautiful.......2007-05-14

my wife and i heard aoife o'donovan a couple of times when she was one of the singers with wayfaring strangers. when we were perusing the concert schedule at the somerville theatre my wife recognized her name as the vocalist for the band crooked still. we decided to give it a try but we weren't sure what to expect. within the first 10 seconds of the concert i was in love with the group. we travelled over to vermont later that month to hear them again and then travelled down to club passim in cambridge a couple of months later for a tuesday 10 o'clock at night concert to try out new material. we're going to see them again in july. i've bought four copies of each of their cd's, one copy for us and the others for friends. i am thinking of rewriting my will and leaving everything to aoife if she will sing at my funeral.

i really like wayfaring strangers and have lent my wayfaring strangers cd's to friends and relatives. hardly anyone cares for them as much as i do and i understand that it can take some getting used to. crooked still is not like that. it is so accessible that i think just about anyone would like it and some people will love it.

5 out of 5 stars Shaken By A Low Sound .......2007-05-13

Great CD, I bought it after hearing then in concert!!

4 out of 5 stars Solid follow-up to "Hop High", but with a muted edge.......2007-05-10

So, what do you get when you combine a lead singer with an airy, sultry, velvety smooth voice, a rocking double bass, a banjo player that actually earned his Ph.D. from MIT, and a cellist that's totally bonkers? You get Crooked Still, a band who's unique style of bluegrass music is turning heads wherever they play. I had the fortune of stumbling across these guys at Merlefest and I was hooked from the first song. Their style of music is generally referred to as "Alternative Bluegrass"; basically, they take a traditional song, break it down, and then add their own unique rhythm and melody. These guys take a _very_ creative approach to bluegrass/American folk music (for example, flat-picking a cello), and if your listening habits tend towards the more traditional approach, this may not be the band for you. As good as they are, I'm hoping at some point they will start creating some original material. Also, as many have noted, their second album "Shaken by a low sound" lacks the freshness and edge of both their first album and the live performances of the songs on the album--though that may reflect the influence of the label rather than a conscious decision by the band. Bottom line: if you can only purchase one Crooked Still album, get the first one, "Hop High". If you get a chance to see this band live, do so. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The Madman of the Cello!.......2007-02-27

This record is fine...wonderful, in fact. The band (a cello-bass-banjo power trio!) combines a profound understanding of the "trad" repertoire with hot chops and a hot chick singer with a breathy-but-tasteful delivery. BUT GO SEE THIS BAND LIVE!! I have just returned from Wintergrass and feel safe in saying that I have seen the future (of something or other) and his name is Rushad Eggleston, virtuoso madman. Rushad is evolving into a major force and, in addition his magical cello, he has--for lack of a better word--a schtick you have to see to believe. He is the Jimi-Django of this fabulous aggregation. GO SEE HIM BEFORE HE EXPLODES. Holy, holy bejesus!

5 out of 5 stars Love at first sight.......2007-02-06

I love this band and this CD does them great credit. My favorite cut is Come on in my kitchen, a song I knew 40 years ago but they do it here with depth and feeling.

While most neo-soulsters crank out albums like their hip-hop counterparts, Jill Scott takes a more traditional approach to her craft. Four years after the release of her debut, Who Is Jill Scott, Words & Sounds Vol. 1, Scott returns with the masterful Beautifully Human: Words & Sounds Vol. 2. The album features a collection of lush and hypnotic songs that will make you want to fall in love, live life, and be a better person all at the same time. Lead single "Golden" is a prime example of this. Set to a midtempo groove made for the dance floor, "Golden" is a shiny, beautifully-written narrative about living life to its fullest. The old-school R&B ballad vibe of "Petition" is reminiscent of Minnie Ripperton or early Chaka Khan. However, "Bedda at Home" is anything but laid back. Combining elements of jazz, soul, and old-school hip-hop breakbeats, Scott extols the greatness of her man with a swagger that can only be described as cool. Other highlights include "Family Reunion" and the socially conscious "Rasool."

The album's only flaw may be that it ends too soon, but then again it's always better to leave a listener wanting more. For Scott, being "Beautifully Human" means just that--finding the allure in all that life has to offer and that's well worth the wait. --Rashaun Hall

5 out of 5 stars Just TRY to Justify Your Hatred For This Album.......2007-06-30

Because it will always be unfounded. No matter what, you can't say that this entire album is horrible. From our hauting intro to the continuing positivity throughout it, this album is just wonderful. I got started on Jill way too late into the game, but it's never to late to love this girl. Can't find a track that I don't want to play here, especially since, like her first album, they relate to humans! All of us feel certain ways, and need messages promoted here: Golden-Life is good, and we should live it. (The Fact Is) I Need You-Many people don't like to admit it, but sometimes, we do need that other being in our lives for love. Spring Summer Feeling-Thank you for denouncing that materialistic mentality that plagues present day urban music. You can go on and on with this, from the funky "Bedda At Home" & the huge Jazz Band in "Talk to Me", to the reality of "Family Reunion", and the sensuality of "Whatever", "Not Like Crazy", and the interlude. And, then you have your socially conscious music with "Rasool", and "My Petition". What a wonder! But, many say that this album is not good ONLY because they are comparing it to Vol. 1. Nah, they are in two different catagories. Vol. 1 & Experience, then Vol. 2, and probably whatever is coming next. Keep living, Jill Scott! You've made many see that there is still room for true music in this world. Get the album, then head over to Experience for her live set. Matter of fact, get everything. At least we can know that we can keep playing her 4-6 years from now.

The music is beautiful, but I was really surprised with the poorness of presentation. The CD jewel case was badly damaged. The cover fell off as soon as I removed the plastic wrap, and the bottom corner of the case was completely missing. It's all an enigma -- the shrink wrap was intact and there were no small pieces of plastic anywhere. Perhaps this was a returned CD?

But back to the music - it is relaxing. There are only a few songs on the CD, which explains the low price.

4 out of 5 stars Great Background feel.......2006-11-11

Gives one the ambience and atmosphere of traditional Hawaii. Great as background sound for those that still talk during parties late at night.

    Album Description

Charismatic and compelling singer-songwriter Imogen Heap--recently nominated for two Grammy awards--has gained the ear of America in recent years with her electro/alt songs on cult-fave movies and television shows as well as her 2005 sophomore album Speak for Yourself. Yet i Megaphone, her 1998 debut, has been out of print in the U.S. for seven years. Now, that album has received a much-deserved reissue. i Megaphone revisits the songs that marked Heap as the next great iconoclastic female artist, a lineage that includes Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Bjork, and Liz Phair. After her live debut performing between sets by the Who and Eric Clapton at the 1996 Prince's Trust Concert in London's Hyde Park, the classically trained Heap, from rural Essex, England, signed to Almo Sounds when she was just 17 years old. i Megaphone (an anagram for "Imogen Heap"), produced by David Kahne, Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics), and Guy Sigsworth, and featuring the engaging singles "Come Here Boy," "Shine," and "Getting Scared," earned wide critical acclaim. Unfortunately, Almo Sounds, formed by A&M founders Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, was winding down and Heap soon found herself adrift. In 2002, she and Sigsworth released a duo album, Details, under the moniker Frou Frou and it too was critically acclaimed. The following year they covered the Bonnie Tyler classic "Holding Out for a Hero" for the Shrek 2 soundtrack. Though by then defunct, Frou Frou enjoyed an unexpected resurgence in popularity in 2004 when "Let Go" was featured in Garden State. Heap's second solo album, Speak for Yourself, emerged the following year. Its "Hide and Seek" was heard in the powerful closing scenes of the Season Two finale of The O.C. and sparked a frenzy. The series' third season ended with her haunting rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." "Hide and Seek" was also featured in the movie The Last Kiss, the reality series So You Think You Can Dance, and as the ending song in the premiere episode of this year's new drama Smith. In addition, she penned "Can't Take It In" for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. But it is because of i Megaphone that America first heard Imogen Heap.

Most of the stuff I have heard Imogen do, I have wanted to hear all my life. This was not as good as I had hoped. She is so good live, and I love the "speak for yourself" album alot! I would just say she was playing around for the future here. And she did it.
hats off to her for the success she has now for the playing around she did before!
