Customer Reviews:
great song, lousy cd single.......2004-06-11
Well, here it is, the lead single from the Erasure album that bombed badly. I have to confess that I hadn't heard Freedom prior to the Hits! DVD release, and I found it to be a very uplifting, pleasant song. I especially love when Andy sings, "You've got to believe."
However, as a CD single, this one is a dud. First off, it is a slimline-package import, which follows that horrible U.K. practice of making fans spend more money by releasing two cd singles of the same song, one with a b-side, and the other with remixes. I read that this practice is no longer allowed, which is good!
Being the Part 1 release, this CD single is short- the ENTIRE CD clocks in at just under 10 minutes, for three tracks!
The b-side, Better, does NOT rank among the greatest Erasure has released. I thought is was pretty boring, with Andy's drowned-out, treated vocals. Now, if you want to listen to some truly great b-sides, listen to High NRG (from Fingers & Thumbs), Dreamlike State (from Star), Somewhere Over the Rainbow (from Chorus), or Waiting for Sex (from Breath of Life).
Finally, the "acoustic" version of Freedom is anything but that. Instead of just a guitar-laden background, there are any number of electronic bleeps, blips, and cadences laid under and over the track. In other words, it's just a stripped-down remix, NOT an acoustic version, which would have been much Better (sic).
Anyhow, all these grumbles don't change my opinion of Freedom, which has been an unjustly neglected single.
Heaven Has Come.......2001-05-11
As a fantastic musical group, Erasure has brought joy and happiness to me. Clarke and Bell, having astutely succeeded in producing another fabulous album of great admiration and stature, they continue to enlight euphonically the ears and minds of many fans. Continue your enthusiastic and exemplary musical work!
Excellent Mark picchiotti Remix.......2001-02-11
I'm a long time fan of MARK PICCHIOTTI and I haven't been dissapointed with his guitar mix of "Freedom", a flamenco party club track with more beats, guitar and additional vocals. Very good work. The "J.C's freedom of flight mix" is quite good but nothing spectacular. The Motiv 8 remix is very poor and boring, But is it truly a remix? Just faster beats....the original album version is one hundred times better.Just a bad remix from bad remixers. 4 stars for Mark!
Awesome!.......2000-10-20
"Freedom" is a really wonderful song. Every time I listen to it, my heart and soul fill with a sense of joy and, appropriately, freedom. The b-side, "Better", is pretty good as well, but the acoustic version of "Freedom" is absolutely inspirational and very, very lovely. I can't wait for the new album!
Freedom will come..........2000-10-18
I really enjoy this CD, unfortunately there are only 3 tracks. Freedom single version - absolutely brilliant combination of guitar and synth sounds and Andy's vocals. The second track is called Better - I love this song for its dance style. The third and the last song is a remix version of Freedom called Acoustic version - I don't know why it was named acoustic, the song is still just extended electronic version of Freedom with tons of backing vocals, which I enjoy...

Customer Reviews:
Yup, it's a single.......2002-10-31
It's a good little single to listen to, but there are only three tracks on it so one can't really get into it for long.
A must have for 'Trance' and 'Progressive House' DJs.......2001-02-06
I am, of course, referring to the vinyl version of this release. If you are familiar with the album version than you need to know that these mixes are quite different. They have a few of the same chords but for the most part it is a new experience. But I am sure that anyone who wound up on this page is familiar with singles in the electronic world. You can almost always count on getting more that you bargain for.
Moby has been around for quite some time now. You might not realize that from his sudden thrust into the spotlight. He has been making electronic music for over a decade now and this shows how experience can pay off. The smooth samples with a trance beat and a soft melody is not easy to pull off. But Moby always seems to find the right talent to remix his music and add to the overall experience. This is no exception. Check out some of his older releases and you will understand my point. (I.e. "feeling so real") Moby has repeatedly proven his versatility and it is hard sometimes to know what to expect from him. I have been through this dilemma a number of times personally. Even though Moby himself did not remix all of the tracks you can be rest assured they are of a high caliber.
I have spun the Vinyl equivalent of this disc on a number of occasions and it is becoming something of a crowd favorite. It is a great way to put a little transition into a primarily hard set. Club crowds, believe it or not, like a little variety form time to time. I would not recommend 'part one' as readily as this release but they are both well worth having even if you are not a die-hard Moby fan.
But don't just take my word for it. Check it out for yourself and post what you think. What do I know anyway?
In my dreams I'm jealous all the time..........2000-09-28
The review below is mostly on target, although I will add that it will take a few hearings before the remixes start growing on you. There are no vocals, which makes a big difference if you like that part of the song. The Clubbed to Death mix is the gem here, when I listen to the original Porcelain I sometimes wish it had some of the harder and darker elements in the Clubbed remix. Is this CD worth it? Well, if you have been listening to Moby non-stop for weeks at a time like I have, then yes, go make the purchase. Can't wait to see Moby live in NYC late October 2000...
Remix CD of "Porcelain".......2000-07-05
This cd single contains three remixes of Moby's brillant "Porcelain" off his cd "Play." 1. Clubbed to Death Version by Rob Dougan 6:36 2. Futureshock Instrumental 8:18 3. Torsten Stenzel's Edited Remix 4:50 The first mix is a very brillant mix that starts out like the original, but then brings in a harder beat which gives it a darker quality than the original version. About 3 minutes into the mix, it goes into an experimental electronic phase that takes the piano line and interweaves it with synthesizer parts that are truly beautiful. It also throws in some scratches to give it a little bit of a Massive Attack feel. Truly a great mix. The second mix has more of a house feel to it. It has a sample of "I never meant to hurt you" flowing through the mix which intertwines with the tribal influenced beat that keeps this mix going. It really kicks into gear when the loop from the original that opens the song is synthesized with a harder edge and wraps around the beats. Very good. The third mix is more in the vein of trance. It starts out with the piano part from the original and slowly goes into a BT-influenced synth arrangement. The piano part is sampled throughout balancing the synthesizer which creates a darkness to it. The only problem with this mix is that it's too short. When you're finally melting into the mood it's creating, it's over. I didn't give this a full five stars since none of the mixes use the beautiful lyrics of the original. Number two samples one line, but that's it. They are still worth having, especially the first mix which is incredible. This is the end of my review, "So this is goodbye."

Fare but largly lost in translation.......2007-04-06
Its actually refreshing to see some people in this country that actually listen to Yello since the great USA
is severely deprived of some of the best music in the world like yello, Black, alphaville or Chris De Burgh and chris Rea. There is always great moments in remixes but the orinality is lost, I agree. its like being lost in translation.Well what ever your opinio = thank you for the apreciation you show for the most unique duo that ever existed in modern pop music.this Cd is best for collectors and Yello die hard fans.
If you dare to taste yello for the first time - please by Essential and escape with the beauty of the song "Call it Love". This is lovely and powerfull in its passionate diverse sound and simple elegant lyrics so often found in Yello's music. The others are playfully absurd and that is yet another face of Yello in its best - expression of the moods. yello is an impressionist of pop music - the Van Gough mixed with some honest Monet.
it is one of a kind in these guys are amazing for an open minded listener that is searching for the rare sounds of talent. Also get the "stella" before you go any further. The older albums are for a mature listener.

Much less than I hoped for.......2004-03-07
I've never understood why so many people seem compelled to take Yello's work, which is already tight and precise and, well, perfect, why would someone want to try to make it better? Inevitably they fail, and all we are left with is a dumbed-down version of really excellent music.
When Boris Blank remixes his own work, we are certain to get some new music that is a variation on a theme of the original. We get something that is as good and sometimes better than the original. We get something that is worth spending our money. We get complex compositions, a feast for the ears, an exciting and exotic mix of new and unusual sounds, samples, vocals, all wrapped up into enjoyable music.
When anyone else attempts to remix Yello, we get the usual thump, thump, thumping of some ordinary rhythm, and then just before we get too bored, another rhythm comes in, and then sometimes another, and somewhere along the road we get a small snippet of the original song, but truncated and teased, and this goes on for sometimes 3 or 4 minutes, sometimes as much as 7 or 8 minutes. ::yawn::
I purchased this album primarily based upon the reviews here on Amazon. I should have known better.
Here is a rundown of what is REALLY on this album:
Track one, a new unrealeased version of The Race, by Boris himself, but really nothing to get excited about. (Hasn't The Race been released in about a dozen different versions?) With so many choices, why didn't a better one end up on this CD? I'd rather listen to my favorite version, a 13 minute and 22 second verson I have on vinyl.
Track two, How How, from the Fluke single CD. I already owned it before buying this CD and I never listen to it anyway because it stinks.
Track three, a new version of More by Boris, but not really that great. Get the original on the album Pocket Universe.
Track four, Do It by Marky P and Teri B. Also on the single CD if you already own it (which I do) and not worth listening to anyway.
Track five, an excellent and totally new song, Topaz, by Boris, and not on any album I own. Almost worth the price of this over-priced import just for the one new song.
Track six, yet another version of How How, not by Boris, and available on another single CD that I never bothered to buy because the Fluke one stank so badly.
Track seven, a really lame version of On Track, by someone other than Boris. Again, get the original on the album Pocket Universe.
Track eight, a new version of Vicious Games, rather unremarkable, and remixed by Boris and some other guy.
Track nine, Rubberbandman, remixed by Boris, but also available on another CD single, which I already own...::sigh::
Track ten, She's got a gun, live at the Palladium, NY. I already have it somewhere on vinyl, but I guess it's good to get it finally on CD.
Track eleven, To the Sea, another non-Boris version of the most awful vocals on any Yello song. Why oh why did Stina Nordenstam ever catch the ears of Boris? And why is she living on in remixes of that awful song?
If you want Yello at their best, and all Yello, do not pick up this album. When will Yello stop letting others remix/destroy their work?
This album really deserves two stars, but for the excellent new song, Topaz, it gets bumped up a notch.
Yello Is Still Going.......2003-01-06
This album is a great thing to own. Out of 11 tracks, I only found about 3 tracks that I hardly listen too. Thealbum is balanced, so ifthre is a dull track, it i followed by a great track. I'm a Yello fan and I will say this is a great piece, in the Yello story.
Most of this music is good.......2002-07-29
I'm almost a little bit suspicious about remixes, they tend to be not as good as the original ones. Yello's mixes though, use to be at least as good as the original ones. This album is both.
I was quite disappointed by The Race mix, and both the How How mixes were quite bad, to be honest. More and Topaz are very good and On Track is even better than the original. She's Got A Gun is exellent and To The Sea is just OK.
My final conclusion: THIS ALBUM IS WORTH THE MONEY
New Eccentric Remixes from the Godfathers of Techno!.......2001-03-31
This timely release should really have been called Yello 1986-1998 The Second Mix in One Go. With only 11 tracks it is considerably less substantial than its predecessor - but make no mistake - Yello Eccentrix Remixes is a top album and belongs in every CD collection.
The album is a compilation of old and new material and consists of 2 previously unreleased mixes of the hits The Race [Flag] and More [Pocket Universe] by Boris Blank, a previously unreleased track, Topaz, as well as 8 `hard to get hold of' remixes of slightly older Yello material by Boris Blank, Fluke, Plutone, Mark Picchiotti, Teri Bristol, Doug Laurent, Olaf Wollschlager and Ian Pooley.
Boris Blank's remixes are a rare treat, and for those connoisseurs out there who feel that Yello started loosing the touch after Baby (1991) the `Break Light Mix' of The Race sees Boris back in his best 1980s years. This mix is on par with the original full length version, released 1988, as well as Derek May's legendary `The Pits Mix' of the same year. The `Rockabilly Mix' of More and the new track Topaz continue the deeper techno sound of Pocket Universe and should absolutely not be missed. Fluke's version of How How [Zebra] sounds as radical today as when it was first released in 1994. This unmistakable Fluke retouch transforms the rather mediocre original How How to new rhythmic heights (compare this version of How How with Fluke's Atomix 5 of Atom Bomb, 1996 - the beat is almost uncomfortably similar).
Other highlights are Doug Laurent's romantic journey mix of On Track [Pocket Universe] and the serene To the Sea [Pocket Universe] with Stina Nordenstam on the vocals. If you have ever wondered what a house version of Vicious Games [Stella] would sound like, try the Blank/Wollschlager mix. This version is a definite improvement to The Grid's two ambient `Hands on' remixes, but the new vocals by Diana Boge are a far cry from the chilling voice of Rush Winters.
My only real reservation concerns the choice of including Plutone's `In Silence Mix' of How How from The Plutone Mixes (1994) which is superfluous and comes across as the weakest track - especially in comparison with the Fluke remix. I always felt Plutone made a better job at capturing the Yello sound with the Drummer's and Saxophone versions. Instead of this track I would have preferred a new Boris Blank remix of a classic like Tremendous Pain (Suite 904), Blender, Dr Van Steiner, Tied Up, Domingo or the like.
Unfortunately this is not a US release and the album is only available on special import which takes a few weeks - but it is well worth the extra wait. For those of you who wish to cover the very best of Yello or just indulge in an excellent techno/electronic album I strongly recommend Yello Eccentrix Remixes.

Here's hoping "sony records" can do something with hopeless pete!!!.......2006-05-26
I never actually bought this album but must say i had considered it,but not after all the reviews & bad buzzzz.I will
not be buying this half grade science project.I must say that i am a dead or alive fan from the past,i have most or all their albums, but really had hope for the best, thinking pete & dead or alive would come back stronger than ever but alas not so,i can only hope with dead or alives new contract with "sony" that maybe this will wake pete up and help him come back to reality.Fans of dead or alive should of expected this from dead or alive especially pete himself if you are a fan and ever read anything on dead or alive you will know pete was only in this for the money, big time.Pete, you really lost my hope for the group around the realease of the nude album & your ridiculous attempt at music & your waste of money on your obsession for being & looking like the next liza minnelli/cher rip off :(
P.s if anyone out there thinks this is a bad attempt at music then you really need to see pete & the boys from dead or alive try their hand at "videos".... evolution:the videos...no i'm sorry i have that wrong "Evolution:the total crap videos, the only video's on this dvd that actually had any production value worth watching are: you spin me round,my heart goes bang and lover come back to me..oh and maybe the new version of you spin me round...the worst has to be "unhappy birthday" and "something in my house".Now i truly understand why their videos were never in heavy rotation or actually seen the light of day on music video channels...should had saved it for the comedy channel.... :(
THINK I WANNA' DANCE NOW!.......2006-02-01
This collection of remixes is worth the cash baby. Not superior by any means are these re-works, alas, they are DoA great! If you're a DoA fan, may I suggest this collection?
Oh dear lord...time to pack it in........2006-02-01
I totally agree with the previous reviews. I am a die-hard Dead or Alive fan and have been since way back in 1983, circa "Sophisticated Boom Boom". I bought that album way back then and was hooked.
Fast foward over twenty years and, as my fellow reviewer commented, this is indeed a prime example of what happens when a great band lose complete control over both their material and career. I really don't want to hear any more versions of "You spin me round" as NONE will ever, ever be as good as the original (i'm talking about the 7" and both 12" - "Murder" mix from 1984 & the "Performance" mix, from 1985).
This CD really is absolutely horrendous. Really, really utterly awful...and at this price? Oh please, is this really what has become of probably the one band who's music both excited and inspired me back when I was younger? Sure, there were other bands and singers but Dead or Alive would always come first for me. Of course, bands and music tastes move on - such is the natural order of things - but I never believed it could get this bad, not for Dead or Alive. But it has. Stock Aitken Waterman have often been criticised but let's not forget it's their fantastic production that made Dead or Alive what they were, a great pop dance act with brilliant songs with a real quality to them....try listening to them now, they still sound superb.
I don't know what Pete Burns wants these days. Does he want to make more records? or is he just happy to transform himself into the worlds first living, breathing plastic Ken doll? What I do know is that i'd rather go with the 2nd option if this awful CD is an example of Dead or Alive's future. Also, it annoys me that he just doesn't seem to give a hoot about his fans or his back catalogue. It does make you wonder why we bothered in the first place...oh hang on, I know why...it's because Dead or Alive made brilliant records! I implore you then to please ignore this and go for their earlier albums instead, then you'll know exactly what I mean, just listen to the great songs...then compare them to this.
For now, as someone who has bought probably every Dead or Alive record going, this is a total waste of great talents. Time to pack it in boys and leave us with the memories.
Unimaginable.......2006-01-25
Worth a listen, once, just to hear how bad things can get for a group that's in an unfavorable recording contract with a record label. Not only did Avex Records demand that DOA's last full length release, "Fragile", be composed of 50% previously released material, but they also issued this abomination on the world, much to the horror and displeasure of Dead Or Alive.
Indeed, look at the sneer on Pete's face on the insert sleeve, and take heed of his warning. Could you imagine being stuck on a rickety carnival ride for 50 non-stop minutes? This is the musical equivalent of it.
The tracks from "Fragile" are "re-imagined" here in a series of increasingly monstrous incarnations, welded together from leftover 2 Unlimited riffs that were already stale in 1996. Wickedly fast, you would break your neck dancing to these tracks, and quite possibly break your eardrums listening to them. The mastering on the "Fragile" release was murky, to say the least, but some of the moments here make it sound absolutely pristine--not that a crystal-clear transfer would make these songs sound any better (in this form). The brilliant original material on "Fragile" deserved better treatment. These tracks deserve the "erase" function.
Normally I take into consideration the fact that everybody who writes these reviews has their own unique opinion, but this is one case where I absolutely cannot understand the positive remarks that have been left here by some. How could anybody like this? Were we listening to the same album? Because the one I heard was literally unlistenable.
Caution!.......2006-01-22
Dead or Alive will always be a fav' of mine. Pete Burns is certainly unconventional, yet intriguingly sexy all rolled into one, but this cd leaves something to be desired. The tracks are old and rather blah, not to mention the harsh quality of the music which sounds as if it's being played on some dirt cheap music box with the volume turned all the way up. And NO, I don't own some dirt cheap music box.
Nonetheless, I suppose this cd is a must have for all those die-hard DOA fans. Heck, I've added it to my collection. The price is a little high for something I don't listen to very often, but I do like that it's an import with Japanese writing on the jewel case sleeve.

Truly Madly Wonderful.......2005-03-16
This album is a compilation of the best of the first Savage Garden album plus remixes and B-sides. I've had this album for years and it still the sound is still fresh and new. Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones found a way to take us out of the grunge era and brought us into the the light of intelligent lyrics and pounding beats-this was the perfect start to a too short career.
Great B-Sides.......2004-11-21
I LOVE 'This Side of Me' and all of the other songs on this CD. Definatly worth getting. The TTMAB remix starts out very nice and 'is' a bit different than the original one..
The best B-Side Album (in my opinion).......2004-02-23
Although Darren and Daniel are now persuing solo carrers this album can help you remember the times that were. This cd also shows that all of their work is good not just 1 or 2 albums. This cd has 5 B-sides plus many mixes.
Two tracks worthy of special mention are Fire inside the man and TTMAB radio edit.
They are brilliant. The TTMAB edit is equally as good as the album version.
Best buy this beauty quickly as it is becoming quite rare.
ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES CD'S DE SAVAGE GARDEN.......2003-04-12
LES RECOMIENDO ESTE CD A LOS VERDADEROS FANS DE SAVAGE GARDEN,TODAS LAS CANCIONES ESTAN REBUENAS.
Just perfect ;).......2001-10-24
If you really are a SG fan, this Cd is a must for you. I prefer this one to for example "Affirmation B-Sides", because there are so many unreleased tracks, which are awsome. For example, "Fire inside the man", "All Around Me", "Love can move you" and "Memories are designed to fade" are just great.
This CD is a little bit different from what you expect From SG, it's more rock and groovy;). The lyrics of unrealeased songs aren't that great, though,m also they are good as well. This Cd shows, how Savage Garden has developed during the years. Tha songs come from heart and they aren't too commercial. The only lack is that you can't find SG's best song "I Don't Care" from this CD, but hey, that's what "Affirmation B-tracks" or "Crash and burn" -single are for;)

Customer Reviews:
Great CD.......2007-05-17
New updates to an old fav. Vince Clark's songs are timeless. Great dance/techno tracks.
hit and miss.......2004-08-28
Forget about the updated, remixed versions of Situation - how can you make a classic like this any better?? For the most part these remixes go on for far too long, they stray too far from the orginal version, and they have that horrible mid-nineties club sound ( way too much thud in the bass drum, and too much deviation from the 4/4 beat that is a staple of all good club music.) For me the main attraction is the previously unavailable ( on CD at least ) original US Dub version of Situation that Francois Kervorkian made for the original 12" vinyl pressing. Missing here unfortunately is the original 7" mix of Situation ( what a treat that would have been for US fans of Yazoo.) Also of interest is the complete Madhouse Mix of State Farm, that actually manages to improve on the orignal. The gang at DMC gives this song the kick it didn't have originally. It was issued originally in 1990 on a casstte single ( remember those ? ), but only the edited version made it onto the cd single back then. Here it is restored to its full former glory.
A Yazoo (Yaz) fan must have.......2002-10-18
This CD is an excelent recopilation of the history of a song that has gone beyond generations
The Dub Veriosn (last track) is released in CD quality sound ... YES!, the water effect sounds awesome
The 12" promo (track 7) is the complete mix of a version that have the best of every other mix, from day one ... and with an added sexy touch
buy it or regret it

This new release by DJ Hell, with nice end-of-the-nineties cutoff filter variations is one of the best House act of the year.
Sounds like a strange distorted SoundTrack for 'The Loveboat' Unmissable.
