The album that named a movement (and a magazine), No Depression rocks and twangs in just about equal measure, though the rock side wins out most of the time. Even when a song downshifts from full-on punk to banjo- and mandolin-graced interludes, it usually shifts back again, seemingly louder and angrier than before. Beyond the influential sound, though, are some great songs, whether they're raging originals like "Graveyard Shift," an earnest, acoustic cover of the Carter Family's title track, or a decidedly desperate portrait of Leadbelly's "John Hardy." Alternative country comes alive..........2004-12-20

A friend of mine actually gave me a copy of No Depression on tape shortly after this release came out and told me I had to check this new band out. For some reason it sat at the bottom of my tape collection for well over a year. I finally rediscovered the tape one day and realized it was time to check out the band with the unique name. Man, had I missed out on some seriously good music! There is a nice mix of punk and country on many of the songs on this cd. Songs such as "Graveyard Shift" and "Factory Belt" are quick paced, high-flying country/punk tunes but the song that blew me away (and still does to this day) is the old school country drinking song "Whiskey Bottle". Everytime I hear this song it just sends shivers up my spine as you can feel the pain and heartache in Jay Farrar's voice. Some great bonus tracks on the remastered version including a great version of Gram Parson's "Sin City" and an informative booklet just add to the original beauty of this release. Tupelo move forward into a more traditional country sound after this cd but "No Depression" is a groundbreaking effort.

Oh My, yes indeed!.......2004-08-10

Now this, THIS is my kind of music. Punk meets Country, with Rock sprinkled all over for good measure! From the opening note of "Graveyard Shift" to the close of "Blues Die Hard, there's 19 tracks of pure great music to be had here.

This stuff is potent - what creativity, what diversity, what a great sound these guys put out. Makes me mad I didn't discover them sooner, because Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt are two of the best groups I've been lucky enough to come across in the past year or two. Really and truly well worth buying this one is, you will be very glad you did!

Seminal!!!.......2004-07-25

This is THE album by THE band that created a whole new genre in American Underground music. It would take five years for bands like Uncle Tupelo to appear in every major city in the US, but they eventually did. It is a classic. An essential album for any music lover.

Uncle Tupelo's debut record, No Depression, is a beautiful blend of the heartbreak and longing of country music and the power and fury of punk. The musical style known as alt-country or cowpunk is best summed up in the brilliant "Graveyard Shift". The verses are built around and rolling guitar riff that builds to thrashing crescendo and maniac guitars in the chorus. Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy are the two singers on the album and on this record, Mr. Farrar is clearly the stronger of the two contributing the aforementioned "Graveyard Shift", "Factory Belt" the mournful "Whiskey Bottle" and "Life Worth Living". Mr. Tweedy isn't quite up to Mr. Farrar's level, but you can see the seeds of his brilliance on "Train" and "Screen Door". No Depression went virtually unknown upon its release, but it announced the presence of a truly powerful new musical force.

I didn't know Toots at all, but read a magazine review and gave it a chance. Boy have I been missing some great music. I listen on my commute home and arrive feeling happy and "cool" by association. If you love blues, Buffett, or Bonnie, this sound will hit you where you live. Not just for Reggae fans. Stop reading this and buy it.

Sweet and Dandy! .......2005-10-01

Unlike one reviewer who sounded like he never did love Toots, this is one of my favorite albums by Toots and the Maytals and I have been listening to them for *many* years. Toots has never sounded better and he made all of the other artists who played along with him on the CD put in some of their finest performances, as well. There is hardly a track on here I don't love, but Still is Still Moving to Me, Pressure Drop, and Sweet and Dandy are some of my favorites... and Blame on Me with Rachel Yamagata (who I honestly had never heard of before) just burns me up. I love it. This is a work of art, unlike some of other compilations which I personally thought were either okay, like BB King's, or sounded like they were just inviting younger musicians to play on their albums to reach new audiences and sell more music, like Santana's. Carlos said he was trying to prove how older people could still get it down, then only invited young women to participate and shake it up. Not Toots, man, he knows what's cool and everyone was invited - young or old, you will love it!!!!

My kind of music!.......2005-05-30

I have to admit that prior to purchasing this album I really had no knowledge of Toots' long history of making music. I always loved the sound of reggae - my dad listened to Hawaiian reggae while I was growing up - and I was ready for something fresh and new.

What I enjoy most about "True Love" is that Toots' vocals are never drowned out by his guest artists. He has a strong, almost bluesy sort of voice, and he really sounds like he enjoyed making these songs. It really amazes me that he was able to work with so many artists from such varied genres. "Pressure Drop" and "Monkey Man" easily satisfy my need for upbeat, fun, summer/spring sorts of songs while "Careless Ethiopians" and "Blame on Me" paint a landscape drenched in a darker, haunting tone. If I were to name a song that I do not care for too much, however, it would be his collaboration with Shaggy, I think mostly because Shaggy's vocals aren't too great on here.

Toots is finally getting the recognition he deserves. One of the best reggae performers I've ever seen and this album is definitely one of the best. Love the cuts with Bonnie Rait and Willie Nelson and Marcia Griffiths. Toot Toot Toosie.....HELLO!

This is one of the best roots reggae albums I own and most certainly one the best reggae albums out there. I enjoy both the original and instrumental versions of these songs, and all of them make me bob my head and get in de groove. This is one of the albums I own that absolutely flies by. Its a thrill to hear a young Jacob Miller and Augstus Pablo's hypnotic psychadelic reggae grooves. A must have for anyone into roots music or good reggae in general.

Quite simply one of those mash it up/chant them down albums. Posthumous respect to the trio behind the album; Miller, King Tubby and of course the great Horace Swaby a.k.a Augustus Pablo (digressing a little bit here as usual) whose legendary musical skills make you wonder why there was never a full length (Post-Wailers) Bob Marley-Pablo collaboration. Jacob Miller, with this effort justifies both his elevation to reggae stardom at a tender age of about 20 years and being lead singer of the (later even more successful, Grammy winning) group Inner Circle.

This album, as with most other Roots reggae productions of the circa preaches amongst other things, 2 main themes; Love & (rasta) Culturalism and just as people before & after me have said, you just might find one of the greatest reggae love songs ever released in the guise of "Baby i love you so" which was redone by Dawn (No! no!! no!!!) Penn. There isn't the resource for me to dissect the album song-wise, really, where does one start? Is it "Each one teach one" or will it be "Girl name Pat (Dub version)" The entire album is rich lyrically and genuinely consistent in it's content, however, for the not so ardent reggae fans it might feel a bit monotonous &/or short, in that after every song there's a dub (instrumental) version of that same song next but hey remember! it's the mid 70's reggae scene where Dub music is a staple on everyone's musical plate and we're talking about Miller, Pablo & Tubby holding it together & locking it down.

A while back, whilst product hunting on the web i somehow, someway found myself in a reggae discussion forum where some conspiracy theorist(s) actually alleged that Miller's car crash death in 1980 was no accident at all as 'certain people' weren't particularly fond of the notion that Jacob Miller had claimed Bob Marley's title & throne whilst Marley was on exile in Miami. 'Utter rubbish talk' was my contribution to the claim, considering the obvious acknowledgement, love & mutual admiration between the 2 players, also to think that both had only just arrived together 2 days before, after a promo tour of Brasil with Mr Chris (Island records) Blackwell. If the Reggae scene denied that it felt the cold void created by Jacob's death, it very definitely felt something much more the very next year when Bob Marley passed on as well.

SIMPLY THE BEST.......2002-07-12

This showcase collection features all six of Jacob Miller's Augustus Pablo produced single A-sides back to back with their respective dub versions. It's a great collaboration: Miller's impassioned vocals, Pablo's uniquely strong rhythms, melodies and arrangements played by some of Jamaica's finest musicians; plus the legendary King Tubby at the mixing desk. All the tracks were recorded over an 18 month period (1974-75) at Randy's and Dynamic studios and provided much of the source material for the landmark "King Tubby meets rockers uptown" album, after being mixed at King Tubby's studio by the master himself.

Miller was still a teenager when he started working with Pablo, but handles each vocal performance with an assurance that belies his youthful inexperience, whether it's the dread lyrics of tracks like "False rasta" or love songs like "Baby I love you so", and Tubby's dub mixes beautifully complement the A-sides. Dub was still a relatively new phenomenon when these recordings were made and hardly known outside of Jamaica. The idea of stripping a track down to its bare bones, adding effects such as echo and reverb, and dropping its constituent musical elements in and out of the mix was pioneered by Tubby, opening the door to a whole new world of sonic exploration.

It's difficult to pick favourite tracks on a compilation as good as this one. The most famous of these singles is undoubtedly "Baby I love you so" or rather its dub version "King Tubby meets rockers uptown", which was one of the first examples of dub to make any sort of impact internationally. But from the opening "Keep on knocking", which begins with a statement of intent by Miller ("This is rockers! Original rockers!") it's non-stop quintessential mid-70's reggae from start to finish.

Miller wanted to make more records with Pablo (who can blame him?) but given Pablo's dire financial status (he was often dependent on many of the musicians playing on his records for free on the basis that he would do the same for them), the promises of fame and fortune from other producers soon became too tempting. Before long Miller would become hugely successful with his band Inner Circle, but artistically at least, he never surpassed the recordings on this album. Sadly he was killed in a car crash in 1980, while Tubby was tragically gunned down outside his studio in 1989 and Pablo died a decade later in 1999.

Although the rhythms collected together on "Who say Jah no dread" are all available elsewhere, these are the definitive versions and if you only ever buy one Augustus Pablo record make sure this is it. In view of the album's title it's also pertinent to mention that Pablo was a deeply religious man who often credited Jah as co-producer of his works and this one is no exception. On the sleeve, after the words "produced by Augustus Pablo" you can read the following in parenthesis: "produced by King Selassie I through his divine powers working through I and I to manifest these inspirations". What more can I say?

Simply a must-have for all reggae fanatics........2002-03-19

This is truly one of the best reggae CDs in existence......and I've collected reggae for years. The combination of Miller's unique delivery with Augustus Pablo's wonderful melodies is flawless. And you'll love the dub versions every bit as much as you love the songs themselves. Pablo was simply a genius.

How interesting it is to finally hear the song that "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" is dubbed from!! This is REAL roots reggae music.........this isn't UB40 or Maxi Priest.....this is the real deal. This is what people need to hear if they want to go beyond Marley.

Not a bad track on the entire disc. Wonderful in every way....

After a decade as one of the world's most successful dance acts, Faithless's distinct sound has put them at risk of becoming dinosaurs. Thankfully No Roots doesn't rest on the laurels of former glory and delivers something quite special. Sister Bliss's shrill, semi-hard-house synth stabs are all but gone, replaced by less dated sounds and more thoughtful use of them. Tempos are lower and song structure plays a more valuable part, for No Roots is in fact only two gigantic, epic songs, with each track a progression on the previous one and clever segues leading into the next. The only song that doesn't fall into "Parts 1 & 2" is the lead single version of "Mass Destruction" tacked on the end; it's a funky, breaks-based tune with Maxi Jazz's trademark vocal (used sparingly throughout the album) over live bass and guitars.

Anyone who's seen Faithless live knows how they can jam around their back catalog, making medleys and breakdowns of epic proportions: No Roots is a studio realization of that. Highlighted by "I Want More," downbeat tunes build until their climax when an uptempo number will kick in. "Sweep" is simply a 909 drum and percussion loop with synth flourishes that drops into "Miss U Less, See U More," a classic house tune that closes part one of the album. Something other than a collection of hands-in-the-air floor-fillers and downbeat songs to chill out to, No Roots should be listened to in its entirety. It's a cohesive body of work that builds and dips in all the right places. --David Trueman

Mixing up the old with a bit of the fresh.......2007-01-04

Faithless fans rejoice, here's a release that won't simply rehash the same tired old synth beats...this one's got a dash of funk and jazz and light hip hop mixed in with that comforting, reliable staple of dance sensibility we've all come to expect from these folks. Although they're old, they're not dead--not at least on this release. It's a good, solid pop release with great, upbeat lyrics that will keep you hummin all day.

Better Then You Could Expect.......2006-09-10

For those who thinks that Faithless always makes the same thing, "No Roots" is actually not like other Faithless albums, for good and bad. It's a more direct album with more dance vibes but still less Club songs for the hit charts with catchy beats and hooks. The sound of this album uses less synthesizers and more modern house/club music with a flavour of modern soul and funk, new member LSK also adds some reggae to it. Each of the songs also segues into each other, which makes you unaware of when the songs starts and ends. This album didn't really get much attention by the media and few songs made the hit charts, but it's one of their most fascinating albums with deep thoughtful lyrics and as a concept it works all the way. Which may also be the problematic part. Only "Mass Destruction", "I Want More Part 2" and "Miss You Less, See You More" stands out on their own and most of the other songs are just part of the concept without getting much attention by themselves. "No Roots" is much better then the disssapointing mess of "Outrospective" but it takes time to grow on you and it's only for the most committed fans. If You're new to the band, start with "Reverence", if you're an old fan, you may like this one aswell.

No Roots is filled with lyrics rooted in truth and "I Want More - Part 2" is especially meaningful in that regard. While Sweep knocks you off your feet and leaves you a little dazed, Miss U Less, See U More is surprisingly refreshing. "How could I continue to be the sky without my earth." So romantic...

Filled with social commentary and stories, this music is beautiful and meaningful. The wisdom reaches the heart of the matter and is very palatable in a variety of musical styles.

No Roots slips and slides in musical waves that branch out into wide-open spaces of sound and becomes hypnotizing. You are not sure where one song ends and one begins as the song morphs into "Swingers" as the energy increases and the pace grows ever more rapid. Truly quite fascinating but very intense leading you into a dreamy "Pastoral." You can hardly believe the same band is producing such a variety of moods and musical places. One minute they are rapping, the next floating in dreamy soundscapes of ultimate piano perfection and then delving into club moods. This album is a much more intense album than Outrospective but has some interesting lyrics I enjoyed.

Outstanding!.......2005-12-25

I consider this the best Faithless album, building with symphonic intensity from song to song and highlighting Maxi's literate, INTERESTING soft rap. I am about to check a box certifying to Amazon that "I am over the age of 13" but don't mind sharing with readers the fact that I am over the age of 57 and still recommending this electronic rock album with enthusiasm. This group is very difficult to classify over it's four CDs and multitudinous remixes - and the playing times of its songs preclude any significant radio exposure - so Faithless isn't easy to "come to" through commercial channels. But if you are here, reading listener comments, thank fate and buy the CD.

excellent album.......2005-06-16

Definitely a different album from Faithless, but great nevertheless.

Although some may think it's too politically involved, however art has always been a form of communication, emotional or political.

I can confidently say that all songs in the album are good songs, and certainly some (No Roots, I Want More: Part 1, Miss U Less See U More, Pastoral, ... and my favorite In the End) stand out. I love the album and listen to it without getting bored everytime.

I highly recommend it, and as a final note, I must say that this album is a whole. It has a completely different feel to it when you listen to it from Track 1 to the very end.

As good as they come.......2007-05-17

The production of this CD is not quite as lavish as Tom's first big solo CD - Mad Mad World, but its probably his best work since. This isn't a big, fast-tempoed, rock record centered around blazing guitar tracks. I would best describe it as compilation of Dillonesque slow-to-moderate tempoed folk ballads. Most of the songs have a very straightforward beat allowing the individual parts "and vocal lines" to "dance" around it, with the occasional crunch guitar to highlight certain parts. The only negative thing I could say about the entire CD is the drum sound on track five (Didn't Mean); great song -- some beautiful guitar highlights during the verses -- but that snare and those cymbals -- ugh! Overall, this is a very good CD with plenty of infectious melodies and - like all of Tom's work - never short on words. I would recommend it.

Worth the wait!.......2006-12-15

I've been waiting eight years since the release of X-Ray Sierra, Tom's last album of new material. Great vocals and lyrics, a little more mellow than previous albums, but worth the wait!

Cochrane Delivers with "No Stranger".......2006-11-18

Tom Cochrane is "No Stranger" when it comes to his distinct vocals and outstanding songwriting. After an eight-year hiatus since, Tom delivers a well-worthwhile CD.
The opening track "The Party's Not Over" is an appropriate opening as if Tom is saying, "here I am", as it perfectly segues into "Glide". While Tom's vocals and songwriting withstands the hands of time, the disc lacks any rockers. Mostly a softer sound, perhaps the only up-tempo tracks include "Didn't Mean", "Rough and Tumble", "Spirit in the Sky" and the haunting "Since You Left Me". While Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" appears to be an odd choice for Cochrane to cover, he adopts the song as one of his own. Instead of performing the song in the familiar sense, Tom breathes new life into the 60's classic and interprets it so uniquely, that it sounds like it is a brand new song. Overall, Tom has not disappointed this long time fan. Excellent song writing, guitar playing, and vocals, has proven once again that Tom is NO Stranger to the music scene.

i have 4 or 5 i-roy CDs and this one is the absolute best! it has all of his best stuff and is a great place to start if you are collecting good reggae! the beats, hooks and background instruments are all very original and fresh. checkit! ire!

I-ROY was the RULER for YEARS!!!.......2004-08-31

If you don't know, then let me fill you in. I-ROY ruled dancehall when his music was being released early 70's. Nobody could touch I-ROY for output or originality. Big Youth was the other popular DJ and U-Roy was already history (no disrespect). I-ROY took over everything. One track called "Sound Education" is very rare indeed and a killer tune. Look for the all time I-ROY classic LP "Presenting I-ROY" and also, look for any album with his best ever tune "BLACKMAN TIME". That tune can stand up to ANY tune today - ANY hip hop or rap - BLACKMAN TIME is a killer tune that shows you what I-ROY was all about. But listen to BLACKMAN TIME if you can find it. (EDIT: There's an album with a misleading title called BLACK MAN TIME that has a "fake" version of Black Man Time track on it - it's nothing like the classic track but it's still a good album) Back to this album: Most of the tracks on this album weren't hits - but a couple of them were popular... "Sound Education" was an underground classic. "Buck and the Preacher" was popular. I don't really know about the rest of the tracks... Get this if you can afford it - but definitely get "Presenting I-Roy". Peace.

It's commonly said that the Jamaican deejays of the 1970s were the original rappers, or at least the closest to the officially sanctioned MCs of New York City. Instead of being primitive barkers, as one would reason, some of these deejays possessed flexible voices. I-Roy was one of these. At his earthliest he adopted U-Roy's hip-thrusting ejaculation, which went something like: "HHHH-HeUUUuh!!" But on this collection he can also be heard donning a nasal chanting style for one track, a variety of satirical voices, and his trademark gritty baritone, part-rapped, part-sung, which he sweetened when necessary. An array of witticisms, boasts, Biblical citations, movie reviews, and astute commentaries on ghetto living and events - this just nails home the fact that I-Roy was one of the best rappers in any business.

The final album of reggae legend Peter Tosh's career could scarcely have been steeped in more irony. Long one of Jamaica's most radical and outspoken musical voices, the ex-Wailer spent long years of the '80s out of the spotlight only to return in late 1987 a seemingly changed man. Savvy in the ways of fusing Jamaican rhythms with Western pop styles, Tosh's efforts here often seem labored and decidedly overproduced, all too often mirroring the West's own tired and seemingly aimless pop formulas during the era. Even more jarring was the album's lyrical tone, a limp, can't-we-all-get-along pacificism that would have sounded noble coming from the mouth of a folk singer, but shocking from a man who'd long incited his countrymen to "Get Up, Stand Up" and fight for "Equal Rights." Instead Tosh stalked a nuclear straw man on the title track (has there ever been a pro-nuclear war pop star?) and espoused world peace with tired Lennonisms like "Come Together." There are hints elsewhere that Tosh was trying to find a way to reconcile his past musical adventures with contemporary trends, but it was not to be. On September 11, 1987, Tosh and six of his friends and musical associates were massacred by gunmen in the star's own home. - Jerry McCulley

Ignore Mike!.......2006-07-26

This may not be his best but it's still incredible. 'Nah Go A Jail' is good to light up too. 'No Nuclear War' can be updated and would fit right in today with the ever-present Imperialist objectives of the U.S. 'In My Song' and 'Testify' are praise songs to Jah and 'Lessons In My Life' is one of his best works. It's a perfect song to bring closure to a long and difficult journey. It's not easy to listen to 'Lessons' and not be saddened.

What a Waste.......2006-07-11

Peter Tosh and Roots Reggae go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Hell, can you think of better reggae albums than "Legalize It" or "Equal Rights?" Or how about a more electic performer live? Even greats like Marley pale in comparison to Tosh's abilities. I mean, he was the revolutionary of a very revolutionary group, and reveled in it. And his fans loved him for that.

So WTF!!

As opposed to inciting his countrymen to war, he asks them to join together in peace and harmony to the rest of the world. Where's the Fire and Passion?! And wtf is up with the overproduction? I think he finally decided to seek mainstream success, but he picked one of the worst times in popular music to do so (the late 80's.) The result: an embarassing album for one of the leaders of an entire musical genre. Basically, think 80's Rolling Stones, and you got a pretty good idea of what I mean. Just terrible. And what the hell is up with the album name? "No Nuclear War?" As opposed to "Yay Nuclear War?" Man, it's a good thing he was shot.

The only problem was that he didn't live to see it. Peter tosh was assassinated before this album won the attention of the world. No Nuclear War is the first Peter Tosh album I bought, I recommend it to people who want an album friendly to all ages. The album has a folk theme, with horns and flutes. It is post modern subject matter with medieval reggae.

Peter Tosh's portentous final album.......2005-03-06

Reggae legend Peter Tosh gives another statement of his african consciousness, marijuana legalization struggle, unity of humankind and matters like the anding of nuclear proliferation.This re-mastered version sounds really tough and features mostly material recorded in 1985, but not released until just days before his tragic murder in Kingston on September 11, 1987. "Fight Apartheid" is one of my personal favourites, but the original version released in the "Equal Rights" lp sounds more roots reggae and less syntethised and electric than this later effort. "NO Nuclear War" is a mixed remake of material of some of his seventies songs like "Vampire",the strong "Lessons In My Life", and "Fight Apartheid" and new compositions like his praise to Almighty JAH ("In My Song"), the anti-nuclear hymn with his single version or bonus track. Another fact that adds to the musical experience is the outstanding cover art, and one of my favourite Neville Garrick's work ( with Marley's "Confrontation" and Winston Rodney's "Hail H.I.M.").By watching his ilustration of Peter dressed like a Kung Fu fighter with a gas mask on his face and an armor plate with flashing lightning out of his hands towards the two missiles of Russia and United States I realized how powerful and terrifying a musical graphic image can be. In the last period of his life he asked people to call him by his ethiopian name that was Son of Thunder (in Amharic;Wolde Semayat),and this album still sounds thunderable 18 years later.

Haunting and Monolithic.......2005-02-27

With 1987 came Peter Tosh's final album, "No Nuclear War," released just days before his death on September 11th, 1987 due to his murder by a friend.

The album opens with an amazing, powerful title track dedicated to the end of Nuclear War and the Cold War Era, as Tosh fortells a coming Armageddon bathed in death and nuclear weaponry. Tosh recounts past wars and their leading up to the final war: a Nuclear fallout. Delivering a similar message in brighter tones is "Come Together," a plea for unity and an end to war and racism, one of the topics that Tosh is so well known for. Closing the album is a shortened single version of the title track.

Second is Tosh's "Nah Goa Jail," another of his world-famous pro-ganja anthems dictating the legalization of marijuana and the ceasing of the arrest of Rastas who dilligently use herb. This is followed by a reamke of Tosh's old "Apartheid," from the "Equal Rights" album of 1977, called "Fight Apartheid," on this album.

Tracks five and seven, "In My Song," and "Testify," are both delightful, uplifting, joyous testaments to the power of God and Tosh's need to express his thanks. Here, Tosh's happiness and joy shine through clearer than on any of his previous albums.

Finally, the albums most signifigant and haunting track is "Lessons In My Life," a song about Tosh's stance on friends, whom he believed would often betray you, as he so illustrated here with the lines:

"Always be careful of mankind
Be careful of mankind

They make promises today
But tomorrow change their mind"

And:

"Always be careful of my friends
Be careful of my friend

Money can make friendship end
It makes friendship end"

Tragically and eerily, Tosh was murdered by a friend in a robbery just days after the release of the album. While this may not have been Tosh's most chart-topping album, it was his most profound. This is a masterpiece, Tosh's final work of art to the world, summarizing each of his core principles. This is a visionary, final chapter in one of the World's great legacies. Rest in peace, Peter. Thank you for the years of beautiful music.

Remarkably moving music.......2001-11-17

I had no idea what I was getting when I bought this CD; it has become one of my most listened-to albums. Arnold had a genius for romantic melody that moves the soul. I believe his fame will grow in the 21st century as the silliness of modern atonal music is forgotten and the eternal values of melody and beauty regain their place in western culture.

Bacon Brothers Are Cookin' With This CD.......2007-05-13

These guys are really talented. I always liked "Foot Loose" which is a track on this CD. This performance brings out all their talents for music, performance and show man ship. The bothers get an A+ from me!

Great Listening CD.......2005-05-26

I had the pleasure of seeing the band play live at our county fair a few years ago. I really enjoyed the performance at the fair and this album has increased my enjoyment for the band. This album is very easy listening. The songs have so much meaning and you can tell that they came from the heart. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys what I call "middle of the road music". I'm not a person who likes rap music or heavy metal. This is very easy listening music done with style!

P.S. A Feel Good DVD.......2004-04-18

In addition to what I wrote before, the bonus track of Kevin and Michael alone playing together and singing are just priceless. They remind me of me and my brother playing and singing together at family gatherings when he'd come home from CA. which isn't that often. The harmony siblings can bring together somehow outmatch any other. It's like a book you can't put down, a DVD you can't stop!

Puts a smile on my face!.......2004-04-18

I have to say, when I purchased this DVD only one review had been written and it wasn't favorable. They complained about sound quality but there is nothing wrong with the sound on my copy. I was one to always rely on my own interpretations and opinions so I bought the DVD anyway and...I'm so glad I did! It was pure Bacon Brothers at their finest and if it hadn't snowed that day I would have been in that audience! I live about an hour north of Englewood and we had more snow, so for me to make it would have been a miracle. I did get to see them about one and a half years prior to that day at a WHUD Summer Concert at Croton-on-Hudson park and this DVD took me back to that wonderful place. It was fun, light hearted and just great music. If you are a fan or even think you could be a fan, this is the DVD for you. Michael and Kevin sing and play their best and it was just as I remember at the park that day. Harmony was perfect and Michael's chello in "Sooner or Later" had me mezmorized. The slow ballads kept me entranced while the light and bouncy tunes had me chair dancing. I always smile when I see this DVD and I've watched it three times within two weeks so far! Guaranteed to make you smile!

Kevin and Michael Kick Ass!!!.......2003-12-05

Awesome band!!! Kevin and Michael are blessed to have acquired such great band members. I have seen them live a number of times and this CD is just what I have been waiting for. It ROCKS!!! These guys are true performers and their talent shines through on this CD. The song selection is usually what they play live plus a few others and a couple of really nice cover tunes. Boogie is a great song with an awesome little jam that leads into Footloose. Studio is nice but live is ...well, alive and rockin! A must for all Bacon Brothers fans and a great place to start if you want to give these guys a try. So try em you just might like em.
