Product Description
Koma + Bones spent their formative years dancing at Manchester's legendary Hacienda (immortalized in the film 24-Hour Party People) and listening to New Order. Andy Duckmanton (aka Koma) was THE House DJ in Lancashire, so when they turned their attention to breakbeat, it was never going to be a London-centric thing. They make their own style, they play their own style.

Since bursting onto the scene in the sweaty summer of 2000 with tracks on Freakaboom, remixes of God Within's ‘The Phoenix', Cotton Club's ‘Nu Jack' and ‘Powercut', a debut 12" for Rennie Pilgrem's TCR, Koma + Bones have established themselves as a leading force in the breaks scene with a notably prolific output of high quality tracks & remixes (currently crowned ‘Breakbeat Remixers of the Year' at the American Breakbeat Awards).

‘Shutterspeed' follows their ‘Blinded by Science' debut album and a remix frenzy that includes Xpress-2 ‘Smoke Machine', New Order ‘Confusion' (which charted in the UK and New demanded it be included on their ‘Best Of' box set!), Kosheen ‘Hide U', PMT - ‘Deeper Water', dj mix albums for Y4K and Street Beat (USA) and wowing crowds in North America, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong as well as becoming legends in their own lunch time all over the UK and Europe.

An emotive journey steeped in solid breakbeat grooves from start to finish is the contents of their second album. Collaborations with Matt Maudsley ("Basic Emotion") as well as "Take Me Back" with Robert Owens. Driving dancefloor smashers appear amongst the well-crafted hip-hop retrospective, Flip Flop demonstrating a clear fondness of the eclectic as well as their love of the old school beats.

4 out of 5 stars Solid selection with a moody stylish vibe.......2003-11-13

I snatched this up without ever having listened to K+B-produced tracks (only remixes), but I recall their remix on a Crystal Method single as "standout," so I took a gamble.

The vocal tracks at the beginning and end of the disc take a little getting used to, but as a whole the CD is very enjoyable.

It's hard to describe the style, sort of big-beat, drum-n-bass, and house, I guess.

This one will stay in the rotation for a while!

      5 out of 5 stars souled out!.......2003-08-02

This would have to be the most underrated band of the decade. For four years Shutterspeed has flown under the radar of commercial radio, but Andrew Petersen is without doubt, a world class songwriter, and this, Shutterspeed's first EP is testimony.

The songs have sensibility, like Springsteen, but unlike Springsteen's, they actually swing. (a la sixties Motown, Atlantic soul, Van Morrison etc.) There are hooks and riffs galore, and the passion is genuine. In 2003, Shutterspeed has gone on to create the landmark R&B album 'Custom Made Hit Parade'. Both CDs are well worth checking out!

      5 out of 5 stars Brisbane has a shine.......2002-04-10

This EP from Brisbane boys Shutterspeed ia a little gem.
Andrew Petersen has a soul and passion for writting quality
songs that shimmer, sway and rock away. The title song is a top little ditty and sets up the mood for the rest of the tunes here. I found this cd by luck and was impressed.
I researched the name and found that they have more product available. If you need a comparison try Paul Weller or Small faces. I have the album they released in Australia last year ( Hill street views) and it shows a lot of maturity in the songsmanship. Worth the buy if you like soul tinged pop with great vocals and intelligent lyrics.
