A Contemporary Jazz Guitar Classic!!!.......2006-05-23

This album is one of the reasons I started playing guitar in the first place. It's as tasty as tasty gets. I originally bought it on vinyl. I must have worn out a dozen phonograph needles playing this record when I was growing up. And, that performance still sounds every bit amazing as it did about 20 years ago. Of course, I've since bought the CD!!!!

A long lost love.......2002-04-24

A long time ago, betweeen careers, I was tending bar. I heard a tape of some character named Larry Carlton. An awesome album. I've been a fan ever since. I've seen him 20 times? If you love (or understand) the blues and you love guitar, this is an album for you. Enjoy!!

Whoa!.......2002-04-11

The man lives the guitar; his must be surgically attached. One can honestly feel his guitar breathe in "The B.P. Blues". His decades as a session guitarist have tempered his into a style one no one else comes close to. The seemimg simplicity and emotional depth of some of his riffs - man alive! This is one of the finest jazz-fusion albumns I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. It's one of those albumns make's me wish I'd taken up knitting instead of the guitar.....how can anyone be that good? I can't stop listening to it!

Almost as good as being there.......2002-02-27

I've seen Larry Carlton 4 times over the years. He was really 'on' twice and seemed a bit uninterested the other two. This record is definitely Larry on a good night. He gets into one of his patented runs on "Don't Give It Up" that makes you think he could go on forever spitting out clean, melodic lines. And "Last Nite" has a really wild run where he seems to chase down the melody for a good 2 minutes before he finally catches it. My only complaint is the horns that were added later in the studio. It takes away from the live, spontaneous vibe of the tunes. Still, if you only know Larry Carlton from his mellow jazz period this is a great place to get acquainted with his earlier, shall we say, "more energetic" days.

A Classic.......2002-01-02

Larry Carlton - Last Night
This album opened my eyes to the possibilities of fusion guitar - the subtlety the electric guitar is capable of and what a master can do to completely control tone and distortion. It also extended my view of the blues and jazz genres - the way he included arpeggiated ideas and intervallic leaps in his licks was new to me at the time, also. It's the only Larry Carlton album that I ever listen to these days as the others are too smooth and commercial for my tastes. This performance is a gem and is essential listening for anyone interested in jazz or fusion guitar.

LIVE is misleading........2002-05-28

These are just three session tracks, live in the studio, a diff'rent studio than the one they recorded Is This It? at. So, don't be like me and expect them to be scorching and seething their way through songs that probably should have always been harder, with an enthusiastic crowd as witnesses. Nah, this is just them in the studio. There may be an extra symbol here or there, and the tone and key may be a bit different as well, but for the most part, you'd really have to listen to both versions to find out and it's hardly worth it, I think. Four stars because the songs are flawless, just like they are on the album.

I applaud VC for her creativity in making this, but when you consider the current trend of things like this automatically getting critical acclaim, you have to wonder if she just wanted free acclaim. It's a good song, although not as unique as it's made out to be and not very memorable either. I suppose it's always "nice" to have an artist try new genres and stuff, but it's the weakest of all her singles.

"Last Nite" was a huge hit in Europe, where it was released - but compared to her other songs, it just doesn't make any impact. I'd prefer her to stick with sentimental pop ballads, thunderous unique dynamite breakup songs & echoing club anthems. She's had a pretty good streak to this point.

This type of thing oughtn't to be allowed. What, exactly, was she shooting for here? One cannot possibly hope to ever understand what or who this woman is targeting. Is she aimed at the grammar-school set, or is she aimed at disenfranchised gay male teens(a big chunk of her audience), or is she aimed at the pathetic now-in-their-30s guys who lusted after her in Eve's Plum? Does it matter? With ideas this poor, the execution hardly matters. For what it's worth, she uses the four or five notes of her range well, although without ANY trace of any sort of anything genuine underneath. Maybe that's the idea here. I don't know. I've since heard that V2 have dropped her. She does not appear on their website's list of artists, so I guess we'll have to wait until Ms. Fitzpatrick gets the WB network reality series about 20th class reunions and goes back to Cedar Ridge HS in Old Bridge NJ to see her again. By the way, she lies about her age. She was born in 1969. She's FAR too old for this sort of thing.

I love VITAMIN C's music. Everyone should buy this single. I love it! The remixes are even great too! I bought this single knowing it would be great when it came out. I hope VITAMIN C comes out with another cd soon!

the person who wrote the review saying that the strokes suck, please go out and make an excellent album, like they have done, and then play it for me. this is not the greatest strokes track, but it is still good. hard to explain is a much better single. i recommend buying this if you're trying to collect all of the strokes singles. go for hard to explain/NYC cops single if you're looking for a better listen.

A great song with vast pop potential. The live version is interetsting and innovative, and while the other tracks are basically filler, I'm willing to put up with that in a single.
