Product Description
Fabric is proud to present Fabric 25, a rare DJ mix from one of electronic music's true pioneers and Detroit's cult figure, Carl Craig.

A member of the international techno-circuit since the late ‘80s - Craig is known for his fantastic releases and mixes. In 1989 he produced the classic "Strings of Life" with Derrick May and since has founded his own label Planet E. He's put out timeless pearls of techno under the pseudonym of 69, Innerzone Orchestra and others. Apart from his own productions he's made himself a name as a brilliant remixer and refined productions of Kenny Larkin, Ron Trent, Dave Angel as well as songs by Yello, Tori Amos and Ultramarine.

Fabric 25 is a white-knuckle ride of 4/4 rhythms, featuring Craig's own production overdubs and backing vocals. Tracklisting includes soulful house gems from Blaze and Kerri Chandler, Ying Yang Twins' brilliant party beats, and, as a treat, two of Craig's own stunning productions.

Album Description

High Contrast is one of the main players in the drum `n' bass scene today - reflected through his DJ sets, and the quality and originality of his productions. He entered the world of drum `n' bass without pretence or warning, lighting up the scene with his dazzling tunes and irrevocable changes in composition. His imaginative singles and remixes find comfortable homes in the record boxes of the scene's most notable DJs, and influence other DJs across the musical spectrum.

As a DJ, High Contrast mirrors his reflective production approach by finding the fine balance between the chaos of a heaving dancefloor and the serenity of at-home listening. His eclectic sets are a true antithesis to the criticism that drum `n' bass is jarring and redundant.

High Contrast's DJing style is especially highlighted on FabricLive 25 - a warm, glittery mix that provides a vivid snapshot of some of the genre's most exciting artists. It explores the wide varieties of DnB from the smooth, sunny "Restart" by DJ Marky, Bungle & DJ Roots to the turbulent, thunderous beats of Sparfunk & Joe Solo's "Rapture." The mix is pushed forward by classic rolling basslines from Blame, swept by stunning melodies on Klute's celestial "Hell Hath No Fury," and infused with Miami breaks and bass on "Ghetto Blaster." It ends with High Contrasts' own "Days Go By," a palpable wave of soul and emotion that brings the things to a delicate close as it slowly fades to black.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best.......2006-12-01

Phenomenal. Period. Mr Barrett has produced a classic. From track one to twenty, it never lets up or gives you a chance to ask why. One of my personal favorites was Life Rhythm by Logistics. It brings me back to better days for the scene. The records' mix is spot on. Jazz laden tracks in the beginning, female additions in the middle, and true bass rolling jungle at the end.

Snag it, an' dun ask why Boty Boi! BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!

4 out of 5 stars Drum n Bass Blast.......2006-03-23

High Contrast is with out doubt one of the top drum n bass DJ/producers in the world. This mix for the fabriclive set is most definitely up to par. With a wide array of different styles of beats, Lincoln Barret takes you through the every expanding realm of Drum n Bass. Although the entire disc is good, the last 7 songs are outstanding. A good purchase for anyone interested in D n B

5 out of 5 stars Drum N Bass is still alive!.......2006-02-18

This is a very strong cd. I kind of stopped listening to dnb in the last few years but have been surprised by High Contrast. He combines the energy of drumnbass with the soulfullness of jazz and grandness of a symphony. One can appreciate this cd because of the sheer diversity of tracks. Klute & Jenna G tracks are my favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Solid mix - 3.5 stars.......2006-01-26

High Contrast is one of my favs, so when I see something from him, I get it, no questions asked. This mix doesn't dissapoint. At first you recognize a few tracks that you love immediately, and then others start to run through your head. Before you know it you're digging nearly the whole mix. There are some monotonous filler tracks, but the majority of this disc are new tracks by well-known d'n'b players, aka klute, cyantific, london elektricity. There's a great Jenna G track too, and there isn't a "feat. " in front of her name. At the end of the disc HC includes one of his own, a remix of Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen". I don't think the remix is quite as exciting as the original, and it kind of drones on in a trancy marathon pace. Regardless, I don't think you'll be let down ... this is another HC winnner.

5 out of 5 stars The future of D'nB is here.......2006-01-18

This is an awesome album, I wasn't expecting this... It seems that the label Hospital Records has some of the most talented artists for drum and bass, i.e. Nu:tone, London Elektricity... all are very talented, but High contrast is by far my favorite... Buy it you won't regret it!

3 out of 5 stars What were you thinking??.......2006-08-08

I have never felt the need to submit a review to a CD before, but i feel i have to write this one in the vain hope that Carl himself will read it. His mix for fabric 25 is a very good mix, with good track selection, mixing and album flow. HOWEVER, for some reason Mr Craig thought it would be really cool to add his own vocals over the top of some tracks!!!. Phrases like 'get your lighters in the air'...and 'clap your hands' and far too many 'whoooo's' and 'Ughhhh's' for my liking. At no point did i want to get my lighter out and hold it up, nor do i like hearing what Mr Craig sounds like when having sex. Stick to the producing and DJing, leave the vocals & MCing to the professionals. And stay off the whiskey when in the studio!!!! Poor show.

4 out of 5 stars Fabric 25 is excelent!!!.......2006-03-15

This is the third CD of Fabric 25. It's accelerated, it's bold, it's electronic and it has a lot of flow and hip hop to be easy listening. Carl Craig does a wonderfull work in this album.

3 out of 5 stars Carl Craig shows that he still has the skills.......2006-02-27

This is amazing stuff!
Carl Craig mixing skills were great and this album is just a chillin'

Really great I love this album.

He mixes all type of genres in this album and I really respect that.

Verdict: 3.0 out of 5.0 Great stuff! I was hooked on this. But for some reason I just don't want to give a 4 or a 5, even though this album is great I just don't.

5 out of 5 stars Great album.......2006-01-16

This is one of the best Fabric releases I`ve listened to. The way Carl Craig mixes r&b tunes with a 4/4 baseline is incredible. The only miss in this set is the vocals from Carl, they give the album a real live sound, but they just don`t sound right with the tunes.
