    5 out of 5 stars ONE+ONE Worth It!.......2007-06-22

Despite the heavy critics this double cd is getting by far, i bought it just by the curiosity of listening these two fellows mixing together sounded to me like a weird experiment but oh well, Im not in the hype mode to write an exciting review about this, but definitely in short terms this double mix kicks @$$, the production is way exceptional and the tracks well not a super fan of all but hell they sound very good.
Both discs contain same vibe (from a certain point of view), they still are different but they have "i dont know what" that makes you keep listening and listening until you want to put it again.
I dont have a fave cd cause both have parts i love, for those who own it will understand.
Don't read the critics!!! Just Buy it, its a mixed compilation for the new generation duo Dj's that has something pretty cool and you will still hear it in the next years.
One+One surely is a recommendation you will love it and for parties !! :)
    Regards!

5 out of 5 stars Holy S#@! They are Awesome!!!.......2007-06-06

First off, if you don't have this CD please buy it. One of the single best CD's Ever. The combination of two amazing DJ's have never made a 1+1=3 combo since Sasha and Digweed. I saw them in LA when they toured and I have seen many shows but this easily ranks in the Top 3 all time which is a lot to say for me. On the 1st CD, there are definitely some tracks that stand out: Push Push & Fragmente song are on my all time great lists. But I just don't think that words can adaquately describe the level of skill and expertise these two guys show when they put out this CD or when you see them together live. They create a new genre of house music:which is called the best damn house ever! I am floored by the CD and seeing them, please don't hesitate to buy this you will not be disappointed. I don't do this often but if I back it up I mean it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Fresh, and Groundbreaking..........2007-05-30

I think the two reviewers before me did a nice job reviewing this double-disc.

I'm not one for writing reviews here or anywhere, but I felt compelled to for this release. I stumbled into the One+One duo while at WMC in Miami. My friend and I caught their live show at The Fifth, which was their official release party for their One+One release. We were blown away. Subsequently, I've seen them in Chicago and in New York, and each time have been amazed at the quality of their music.

The release itself is the freshest, most original take on electronic music that I've heard in years. My tastes generally lean more towards house (vs. techno, for instance), but have been slowly acclimating towards a greater appreciation of tech-house, etc. This release strikes the perfect balance of "tech" and "melody".... of rich, vibrating basslines, and smooth harmonic overtones.

This release will be looked upon years from now as a true groundbreaker... trust me on that. Do yourself a favor and take a chance. I doubt you'll be disappointed, and I'd bet you'll have a hard time taking it out of your musical rotation.

    Enjoy...

5 out of 5 stars One + One Equals Three.... Damn Fine Discs.......2007-04-27

The stylistic fusion between James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli on "One+One" is, to say the least, impressive. The two DJ's, whose individual styles remain significantly different and distinct from one another, are complementary in ways I can only ascribe to the same such collaborative aspects of Sasha and John Digweed's endeavors. "One+One" is strange, for the first mix is rightfully ambient - smooth, not only in mixing but in the purity of the sound quality and music itself. Smooth as silk. The two styles, one breakbeat/house and the other progressive/minimal-tech, fuse together and flower into what I consider to be one of the most unpredictable and weird mixes I hav heard in a long time. The One+One combination blooms immediately and does nto wilt with the scrutiny and heat of repeated listens.

Disc one casts off with One+One's `Rover', at once ambient and electrically charged in a subtle fashion. It doesn't take more than a minute for a beat to drop, crisp and pleasing to the ears-Like a winding river, Rover's bassline slithers smoothly into formation, completing the necessarily sluggish introduction to this highly anticipated double disc mix. Manipulating the decks with deft precision seems to be no problem for the pair of rising EDM stars, though I feel that for a release so fresh and as highly anticipated that it was unwise of the duo to choose two relatively dated and familiar songs, including Deep Dish's "Stay Gold" and the overly-repetitious "To Ya Waistline" to help kick-off the album's first disc after Rover. Yet, by the time JZ's edit of "The Way We Swing" melds into the mixture, we're all beginning to move a bit. One+One creates an atmosphere whereby the constant movement between smoothly thumping club music and transient ambience is not at all uncomfortable. Some really decent tracks which caught my attention on the first mix are "Analog Sparkles," "Love it" and the One+One version of James Zabiela's "Human." James represents his home-grown style with this one and reminds the listener that it is two individuals working with one another to perform, and not a single entity. I am always happy to see "Soothe" play in a mix, and it does so at the end of mix one. Its smooth and minimal appearance (that I am sure was inspired by Fanciulli) delights the senses and aids in bringing the eccentricity of the first mix to commendable closure. Beware of "Think of Love." I did not expect such an impassioned and diverse song to wrap things up: Middle-Eastern and wild, yet coherent and thoroughly enjoyable.

The second mix is the most musical fun I have had since M.A.N.D.Y.'s "At the Controls" release. I think the second mix's aura is wacky and frenetic - hell, listen to the opening track "SimonSis1"! Zabiela went to town on the sampling here. Again, for me, the key-words that describe the musical timbre of this mix are "smooth," and "silky," but all of these stupendous elements are background operations now, allowing for the ensuing madness to take to the fore-front. "Being Stoopid" lethargically slides into "Give Me Luv/Erotic Discourse" (JZ Erotic Luv Mash-Up), raising the wackiness bar to rather unbelievable heights: Even better, we're allowed to bat-around a bit with Fanciulli's own "Cat Out of the Bag (Jim Rivers Cat Nap Mix)," which steadily gains momentum while pursuing a melody that leaves me feeling as if it had been delivered from outer space for my listening pleasure. "Work It" shows Zabiela's wizardry at fooling with the decks again, arbitrarily dropping sick beats into a slick stew of what has now become an EDM frenzy. The Hi-Fi Bugs add a significant techy-prog number with "Don't Die, Don't Kill Anyone," a track whose funky flavor negates making necessary the intriguing track title! Further tracks to note as you traverse down this wacky, unorthodox trail (like watching Alice in Wonderland!) include... well, the whole rest of the disc, to be honest. It is rare that I make the following statement, but EVERY SINGLE track on the second mix adds its part in what amounts to be quietly irresistible madness. There will be no skipping of tracks, here.

    But wait! There's more.

The duo prepared a special third bonus mix that is accessible via the internet. The third mix amounts to what I consider a 45-minute combination of the first and second mixes. The first 25 minutes are so slowly paced with a repetitive melody; I sometimes find myself bored with it, but it should be considered a necessity to those of you who enjoy falling asleep to music. By the 28 minute mark, the mix's speed picks up with some spoken-word insertions, and then *wham* - it's off to Zabiela World for another blissful fifteen minutes. Within these fifteen mixes lies everything the second mix was perhaps meant to be and more, since it is so finely condensed and thus leaps and bounds more accessible. I feel the obligation to point out the sexy house bass on the second half of the third mix because for me, it makes the second half what it is.

A superbly smooth, wild and fun recording mixed by two of the world's finest, the musical journey that is One+One is sure not to leave my stereo for months to come. In this case, One + One equals five; five stars out of five, that is.

    ~Lex

5 out of 5 stars Very nice! (how much).......2007-04-10

Finally, the long awaited release from two world class DJ's. Each are known for their own specialties: Fanciulli for his excellent mixing and turntable knowhow, and Zabiela for his technical expertise. Combined, these guys (as expected) tear it up. I mean...really tear it up. Disc one starts with a nice slow track which leads in to the classic Deep Dish remix of "Stay Gold" and right into another oldy but good "To Ya Waistline." If you listen really, really closely...you can hear all sorts of stuff going on in the background...courtesy of Zabiela of course.
"The Way We Swing" is where the disc really starts to get good. Really good for the next several tracks. Again, listen for all of the details in each track. Fast forward (not really of course because you would be missing out) to track and things get ridiculous.

Disc 2 starts with the only track that I don't care for. It actually sounds like there is something wrong with your CD or speakers. Now I know this is intentional...but I don't care for it.
"Being Stoopid" makes up for the poor beginning which is an excellent track that has beeen around for a while. Back again for a remix of "Give Me Love". You will know this when you hear it. Another classic. Track #4 is excellent. So much going on it makes your ears hurt (In a good way.

I'm not going to ramble on any more about this release. Just know that it is from 2 of the best in the industry.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Classic techno fun.......2007-05-06

This CD brings back so many memories. It is filled with techo/dance music from the late 80's early 90's. If you like techno/house/dance club music then this is the perfect CD for you.

4 out of 5 stars Real Cool Soundtrack.......2002-04-12

One of the first techno/electronica soundtracks to gain prominence was the soundtrack to Ralph Bakshi's Cool World, which garnered mixed reviews. I'm ambivalent about it myself today, but my love of the soundtrack has not diminished, but actually gained higher levels of appreciation.

David Bowie leads off with "Real Cool World" in yet another one of his chameleonic incarnations. Even though clocking in at over five minutes, its quick-beat techno rhythm is not prolonged agony. It's the next track, the Thompson Twins' "Play With Me," my favorite by the way, that is unlike anything Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie have ever done. Sure, they ruled with Here's To Future Days, but in terms of keeping with the thematic sound and feeling of the movie, this song succeeds admirably.

When are the Pet Shop Boys not the Pet Shop Boys? Answer: when Neil Tennant does lead vocals in "Disappointed," in his side project Electronic, also with Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr.

The hardest song is the Ministry's Psalm 69 song, "N.W.O." and that boosts the album as well. It's the next song, the Cult's "The Witch," which is unlike anything from the new-wavy Love or AC-DC crunch of Electric. There's an industrial buzzing punctuated by chords slightly reminiscent of Electric. Ian Astbury sounds muted by the fuzz and buzz of this song. Still worthwhile, though.

Moby contributes two songs here, "Ah Ah" and "Next Is The E." This is early Moby at his best, and his triple figure BPM and soul-tinged female vocalist is in its best in "Next Is The E."

"Do That Thang" out-kapow's "Next Is The E" in its energetic vivaciousness, hard guitar chords, funky vocals, electronic effects on overdrive chaos. I dare anyone to hear this song and not feel energized.

Sassy is the key with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, especially with the guitar crunchy "Sex On Wheelz," with its hard-driving vocals. "Her Sassy Kiss" is different, with whirly synthesizers and brassy inclusions.

The last three songs belong to the ambient category, with Pure's "Greedy," Brian Eno's "Under" and Tom Bailey's sexy and seductive "Industry And Seduction," complete with grinding metal on rock, whizzing sounds, sirens, light whips, and panting. "Under" brings about the contemplative image of staring at the stars, with the neon lights aglitter below in the never sleeping city from a high floor apartment window.

A case where the soundtrack is leagues more superior than the movie, and where the techno/industrial/ambient unity is achieved.

      4 out of 5 stars "Cool" Soundtrack........2002-03-06

I thought the movie was good, but this cd is great. It's pretty much a good sampler of early 90's electronica and industrial music. "David Bowie" starts with a song that's as good as anything he's done in the past 11 years. There's a couple early tracks from "Moby" that are sweet. The whole disc is suprisingly good, right to the last instrumental track, which jumps from speaker to speaker. But the real punch comes from "Ministry", "The Cult", and "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult". Those three songs are awesome. If all soundtracks were this good, it really would be a "Cool World".

5 out of 5 stars Bad movie, great soundtrack.......2001-02-18

Too often, great movies produce soundtrack albums that don't reflect the quality of the movies they come from. Sometimes, though, lousy movies have wonderful soundtracks that deserve to exist separately from the dreck that spawned them, and "Songs from The Cool World" is one such album. The movie it comes from might be weak, but the CD represents a terrific sampler of early technodance songs from the likes of Thompson Twins, Mindless, The Future Sound of London and, of course, the acknowledged master of techno, Moby; a couple of his earliest hits can be found here. There are also tunes from David Bowie (who does the lead track), Ministry and Brian Eno. My fave track, though, and the reason I bought the album in the first place, is "Sex on Wheelz," a fun, rowdy, nasty song that plays hard from beginning to end.

In short, this is a fun, varied, thoroughly danceable soundtrack CD that far exceeds the quality of the movie it's attached to. Skip "Cool World," but buy the album and dial it up.

      5 out of 5 stars Musical Ecstasty.......2000-04-15

This is a Must-Have soundtrack if you like New Wave, electronic/techno music - almost every song is outstanding. Especially cool tracks are Electronic's Disappointed (side project of New Order's Benard Sumner and Smith's Johnny Marr, guest vocals Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant), Moby's Ah-Ah, David Bowie's 'Real Cool World', & Future Sound of London's Papua New Guinea.

5 out of 5 stars The Music that made Ministry what it is.......2007-03-17

I just loved all three discs from the first song to the last, it was a great mix of songs from the past 15 years that make you feel like your at the club all over again!

2 out of 5 stars Another disappointment from MoS.......2007-01-03

Although you get alot of songs for $25, you get a lot of garbage which has been typical from MoS in the past two years. The best songs are from the album that features hits from the past. You can't really go wrong there. You'd be better downloading the 10 good songs from iTunes and saving $15.

Considering his uber-DJ status, it comes as something of a surprise to learn that The Politics Of Dancing (and, presumably, feeling good) is the first-ever mixed outing from one of dance music's most reluctant figureheads. Having said in the past that he didn't think he could bring the atmosphere of a club to a compilation, it has taken the full weight of the ubiquitous Ministry to persuade the legendary Berliners to their turntables for a steroid-pumped two hours of music. Despite his aversion to the term, rippling Eurotrance is the order of the day here, with Van Dyk stamping his authority by way of no less than 11 of his own tracks or remixes scattered across two seamlessly mixed compact discs, the tracklisting for which has also been dissected and rebuilt in the studio into what amounts to a series of exclusive versions. Message understood? --Kingsley Marshall

2 out of 5 stars There is Irony With The Album's Title.......2007-07-08

I bought this album the week it was released. I should have went with my initial reaction of awe regarding the sheer number of tracks that were on each disc (always a bad sign that your in for anthem mania), but a was still a novice electronica shopper then!

It still obviously sold enough copies to please the powers to be as there is a second album under the same title. Always a market for everything.

Two discs full of tacky athems and re-mixes that I still have not figured out how anyone could actually dance to. Then again, I did visit a club in Vienna, Austria...let's just say the occupants' dancing styles were...unique.

      Both Disc get 2/5 stars.

      3 out of 5 stars Four-On-The-Floor Filibusters.......2007-04-17

German DJ Paul Van Dyk grew up smuggling forbidden Western music into his ears from beyond the stones of the Berlin Wall. Plucking the musical currents freely from the air of oppression, Paul Van Dyk slowly developed an affinity for trance electronics, the mind massage of musics. His career started when he was 20, and sixteen years and multiple albums/awards later, he's still going strong, one of the top Trance DJs still performing today.

So, you can understand why I'm so bewildered by the stunning lack of innovation in this two-disc set. Don't get me wrong, as the title implies, this is all danceable stuff, but as anyone who's ever tapped their toes can tell you, it doesn't take much more than an incessant beat, some heavy bass, and stubbornly catchy hooks to fill the floors with bent knees and raised arms. It may be danceable, but is it memorable, is it something you want to possess and revisit?

Disc 1, maybe. Van Dyk takes some of his own creations (the untinctured and trancy "Autumn," the metal house splinters of "Out There," the deep, dream-washed beats of "Vega") and mixes them with some pretty standard fare gussied up with Van Dyk's usual flair for soul-heady producing. He meanders through some complex beats, clinging melodies, and frenetic layering ... it's all well-done stuff, but it smacks of moderation, like Van Dyk was harnessing himself. In an essay included with these discs, he refers to this disc as a "warm-up." Maybe he was afraid of spending his creative allotment. Whatever the case, the entire first record, while decent, is decent in a monotonous way. There are a few rich and brilliant seams in this mostly unbroken bedrock, though. Van Dyk does some excellent things with IIO's "Rapture," a club staple I'd long thought was past its prime. He also toys with U2, Timo Maas, Sippin' Soma, and Ashtrax with more than mediocre results. Although the whole of Disc One wants more flavor to make it mind-watering, it is energetic and electrifying. A four-star effort, if anything.

Disc 2 is just strange. He tries for a heftier, more progressive Eurotrance feel, something that has as much gut-deep oomph as it does cloud-light wistfulness. What he comes up with is an uneven batch of numbers that sound like they were assembled, Frankenstein-style from other, more successful compilations, lined up with the exact ... same ... four-on-the-floor backbone. Seriously. Almost every single song on the second CD traces a cloned, rhythmic rut. It's a shame (and a little mind-boggling) that Van Dyk didn't look for more diversity in the track listing, because what he does with these songs in the upper registers is pretty interesting (see Way Out West's "Activity" for a good example). Otherwise, although it's not what I'd call bad trance, it's definitely a prime example of high grade soft cheese, and it all tastes the same. A two star disc, at best.

Van Dyk is an artist who is capable of much more than this, although it's likely that he's a man whose live show energy loses potency when distilled into a crystal box and prepackaged for the masses. His on-the-fly in-house mixes put to shame this set of overly-mediated and thought-to-death discs. Worth a listen, I'd say, but not worth much more.

5 out of 5 stars Trance has never hit higher high's.......2006-11-09

I am a Van Dyk fan by nature, so consider my review biased. But it is biased for a reason. his Cd's are incredible. There has never been anything like them. The Politics of Dancing 1 is no exception. It is an absolute must have for anyone who calls themselves a trance music fan. Buy this Cd, and in a few weeks you'll be at your computer writing a review just like this one here and the other hundred or so already out there.

4 out of 5 stars Probably wondering if it lives up to its hype aren't you?.......2006-07-20

To be fair, this is in fact Paul Van Dyk's first attempt to mix a cd and it is a tragedy that it took him so ling to try it out. This album is a tsetament that the art of mixing; that is track selection, timing, synth key and pad matching, sound proofing for seemless transistions ans what have you is not something you learn overnight. It took Sasha almost twenty years but when he arrived, the world was stunned. Even the reviewers at rolingstone who hardly ever criticize trance albums had to give Sasha the Kudos he deserves. But I am digressing. My point si this is not Sasha,s Diggie or even Oakie's uncannily seductive sound. This is something else and after giving it the proper listens it deserves I believe this to be in the midst of one of the the top twenty electronic compilations of all time.

Paul Van Dyk cannot mix. I am no DJ; I have not paid my dues but I am a demon of a sampler, I was literally the first person in my country to pick up a faithless cd so I have a scary ear for music. He cannot mix period. The transistions simply illustrate his fetish for the euphoric whooof of airplanes, his tracks are too short to be truly psychedlic inducing and transistions from track to track suck. But that does not detract from the album. It is as if by some luck PVD realized his weakness in this new direction and decided to overdo things with track selection and BOY DOE HE OVER DO IT. Some of the most impressive starry eyed melodies I have ever heard in my life are on this cd and I'll back up that statement with my life. From the preternatural Lexicon 4 track to Dreamland and Joker Jam's drooling innnocence is enough to melt even the hardest cynic. A simple analogy of this compilation would be a girl I guess during that first meeting when your eyes meet hers and you feel like you can fly, or when a serious problem solves itself or when you remember some incident from your childhood; PVD packs it all here, patents it and commercializes it. Is it trance? yes Is it good trance? Yes? Is the mixing any good? NO there is no mixing (intentionally. Does this have any replay value? YES. Will this become a classic? Involver already ousted this cd. Maybe next time.

      Very Highly recommended.
