Customer Reviews:
Boheme is an extraordinary musical masterpiece!.......2006-07-05
Boheme by Deep Forest is an original work of art which integrates so many different musical ideas it should appeal to most listeners. This is one CD where you may never get the itch to "fast forward" a particular song. It flows so well I am always surprised each time it ends. "Why do all the good ones seem so short?" I'll say to myself. I enjoy listening to other artists like Mythos, Enigma, and more recently Delirium or Magna Canta. All of these artists create wonder by blending modern day sound with traditional concepts and/or styles. However, Boheme began to have a unique and "sacred" appeal to it so I regard this CD as very special. I recommend Boheme to any who wish to be "enchanted" by the forces of ancestral yesteryear blended with the musical delights of today!! I own two copies of Deep Forest's "Boheme" to make certain I will never be without this great music.
One of the Best.......2006-06-12
Just wanted to add my quick two cents regarding this album. This is the best album from Deep Forest and is one I play regularly. The mixture of sound and music in this album is really great. I'm still waiting for Deep Forest to put out another album as good as this one. None of them have come close.
Really pretty. And...did I already say really pretty?.......2005-07-09
Boy, this is a tough one to review. For just about anyone, I mean, because this is so unusual, so far removed from anything else, even other New Age music (oh, just deal already!), there's absolutely nothing to compare it to.
Which means you have to judge it for what it is, which is...well, I don't know. It has the pygmy sounds, and I could tell they were going for the "electronica" elements (nice touch), y'know, so it doesn't get lumped with generic New Age. Other than that, this is just a very nice, offbeat, listenable album. I did say "really pretty" too, right? :-)
Earthy, lusty, magical and wonderful.......2005-03-17
Like a fine French meal laced with treats from Asia and Africa, the Middle East and place in between, this Deep Forest CD is a treat for all the senses. Sensual, earthy and magical. As the creators note 'Afin que se balade, se tisse et se bataisse la rapsodie moderne de Bhoeme, nous en avons varie les sons, les provenaces et les orchestrations'. "To allow the wandering, weaving, and building of Boheme's modern Bohemian rhapsody, we have varied sounds, origins and orchestrations'.
Anasthasia has a middle eastern feel with deep string instruments and drumming, with a magical flute that tickles the senses. The way the flute and voices quiver is spell binding.
Bohemian Ballet is a song that I and friends literally get up and dance to, whether inside or outside on the beach or near our mountain stream. It is a happy song that has sensual rhythms that are intoxicating. Raise your hands and clap along as you do your own style of belly dance.
Martas Song begins with what sounds like a rain stick and a woman's beautiful voice, and evolves into an echoing style with yodeling undertones from men in an Indian or Chinese flare.
Gathering has a mystical sound and I could easily invision swirlkling in hympnotic circles. For me there were hints of northern Africa in the sounds of the men's voices. Although I could easily invision remote Greek villages full of men dancing in traditional Greek circles.
Lament begins with a magical flute group that slowly evolves to a man singing who sounds a tad Tibetain or Eastern European, and then just as quickly it seems as if a group of children from China are accompaning him. A slow almost lullaby beat.
Bulgarian Melody begins with a beautiful piano and then there is either an Asian or Eastern European voice, dialect that reminds me of when I toss a pebble on the water and I watch it dance along making ripples. Then suddenly the piano in almost a classical manner comes back, with hints of string instruments in the background.
Deep Folk Song is so like the Russian folk dancing music that I have always loved. One can hear the feet jumping up and coming down firmly rythmetic on the wood floor. Then a raspy voiced gem of a man comes along singing what is like a converstation. One can almost invision him gazing into ones eyes as he sings his conversation.
Freedom Cry. Listening to this song I knew what the CD insert meant when it noted that the titles express something beyond folklore, but are also rallying songs of freedom and fraternity.
Twosome begins with another one of those Asian/Indian feeling songs with flute and richness that is like a Persian rug rich in colour, texture and feel. One feels like dancing and twirling to the sway and flow of the rhythm. In some ways I could almost feel the warmth of the sun on my face, and the smell of jasmine in the air.
Cafe Europa sounds a tad Spanish or Basque to me. Could easily invision flamingo dancing in some adobe structured villa surrounded by olive groves. Even though I know it is modern acoustical instruments that are used, there was almost a hint of a harpsichord of centuries past. And I love the fiddle playing and what appears to be an accordion.
Katharina There is that mystical wood instrument again, echoing and teasing the listener. And the soft modern organ. In fact the wood instrument may well me some magical organ key. All I know is I love the sound.Close your eyes as you listen to this song and picture yourself laying back in a boat rocking softly on the Mediterranean sea near Monaco, France or even near some remote Greek island.
Finally.
Boheme lives up to its name or the word Bohemian. Earthy, lusty, sensual and colourful. A real march to your own drummer song.
Haunting Ethereal Voices, Rhythms & Melodies.......2004-07-06
What a fascinating and spine-tingling interpretation and enhancement of Eastern European music, primarily Hungarian, which is my heritage. Deep Forest manages to make Marta Sebestyen sound even more evocative than she usually sounds ... her voice is soulful, poignant, piercingly tender and sincere. This CD is one nonstop experience of primarily Hungarian/Gypsy and Eastern European culture. It is made more enticing and alluring by the qualities Deep Forest brings forth with their creative imaginations -- they add unique beats and splendid vocalizations. They start with an original piece of music by the original artist, then intepret and expand the sound into haunting and ethereal dimensions. I can not say which is my favorite because the whole CD is one magnificent production of high quality and artistry. The traditional music of this region is combined with modern instruments which only makes the original sound even *more* visceral and earthy ... the root music takes hold of you!!! It does not let go. The unsuspecting listener becomes entranced by a traditionAL sound and an almost dying ancient culture ... fortunately it is being rediscovered and interpreted by musicians such as Deep Forest. I love the cover, the falling orange leaves and the "psi" symbol. The sunlight being filtered through the fog is such an appropriate and absolutely well targeted symbol of the musical contents. Everything about Bryn Terfel is over-life-size: his physique, his personality, his breath-control, and of course his extraordinarily beautiful voice. This recording displays his stunning vocalism and versatility to full advantage, but its title belies its content. Alhough it does include some simple pieces, the execution is fussy, overdone, and calculated for maximum external effect. The program ranges from Mozart, Pergolesi and pseudo-Bach to Sondheim in arrangements that are pure Hollywood, complete with throbbing strings and rolling drums, often destroying the spirit as well as the letter of the original compositions. It begins with Mozart's heavenly "Ave verum" arranged for baritone solo and chorus, frustratingly cut off after a few phrases (another setting of the same text by Karl Jenkins, written for Terfel, is more satisfying, being complete and original). The splendid baritone Simon Keenlyside joins him here as well as in the opening number of Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater;" originally for soprano and alto, this must be the baritones' revenge on female singers who usurp songs written for men, like Schubert's and Schumann's cycles. Franck's "Panis angelicus" also inexplicably becomes a duet; unfortunately, Terfel's and tenor Aled Jones' voices do not match. Bach-Gounod's popular "Ave Maria" is all swells and exaggerations. The rest of the program consists of folksongs, hymns, show and film tunes, inflated to operatic proportions and generally ending in a fade-out or a flourish. Even the title song is anything but simple. This record is not for purists who like their music performed the way the composer wrote it, but aficionados of great singing will love it. --Edith Eisler
Customer Reviews:
Bryn Terfel's beautiful voice........2007-05-13
Bryn Terfel has a beautiful voice. Listening to him is very pleasant and definitely something to look forward to. I read a review saying he would replace tenor Pavroti. However, I believe that Mr. Terfel is a Baritone and not a Tenor. That does not detract from the fact that he should be considered one of the world's top male singers. His voice is truly impressive. This CD by Bryn Terfel is one from our collection that is outstanding and a favorite.
Why do people think this guy can sing??.......2007-04-27
Sorry, I think this guy is one of the most overrated singers out there today. He always sounds like he is singing holding his nose shut. VERY nasal sounding.
If you want to listen to an incredibly beautiful voice, buy one of Josh Groban's CD's--you won't regret it! He has the voice of the century!
Relaxing.......2007-02-03
Excellent selection of music. It covers many different types. My wife likes being able to hear the words with out instruments drowning out the vocals. I find it relaxing and many of the songs are familiar and very well done.
Bryn Terfel's Simple Gifts.......2006-02-25
Simply superb. I don't know what our local (Wash DC) paper was talking about when they said Deep River was the weakest link. I was enthralled from beginning to end. I have had the pleasure of hearing Bryn Terfel live in recital at the Kennedy Center. I can assure you that his voice has only improved with age. He was wonderful then and is spectacular now!
A Heartfelt Offering Reminiscent of An Earlier Era.......2006-02-15
Bryn Terfel harkens back to earlier American operatic stars such as Richard Tucker and Robert Merrill who crossed grenres to satisfy their unquenchable need to sing any and all songs that moved them to an appreciative public. These great singers all had their origins singing sacred music from their respective religions and learned to lay their considerable talents before the altar of the simple inspirational song.
This recording is wonderful on many levels. The selections are an unusual mixture of classical sacred music, spirituals, hymns, Lieder, Austrian Christmas and Gaelic songs, musical numbers and movie theme songs harmoniously combined to touch the soul of the listener in a gentle ebb and flow of devotion, intensity and tenderness. All of these songs are beautiful in and of themselves and in his hands, we experience them anew.
Bryn Terfel sings with the commitment necessary to make the awesome challenge of simplicity look easy. To my way of thinking, he is the most communicative and articulate singer today, bar none. He is a poet who savors the sound, feeling and meaning of each and every word and marries it uniquely and faithfully to the music. He transports the listener into the life of a song and transfixes us each and every moment. His enormous talent is not overwhelming or distractive and is inextricably and wholly intertwined with the music. This is greatness and it is very, very rare today.
I like the inclusion of the choir in several of the numbers as it reflects on the nature and context of the songs. I am less fond of the selections with the guest soloists as I feel they do not match his ability to "get inside" a song. The orchestra and orchestations are sensitive and enhancing.
This recording is simply wonderful and should have a broad appeal. It will move and inspire the believer, satisfy and fulfill the otherwise spiritual, calm the troubled and renew a flagging soul.

A follow up to a classic...not bad........2007-06-11
No question, "Perfect Strangers" is a Deep Purple classic. "The House of Blue Light" was the follow up. Not all the songs are classic Purple, or even in the vein of "Perfect Strangers," but as a whole the album is pretty solid. For me, Bad Attitude, Strangeways, Mitzie Dupree, and Dead or Alive are the highlights of this album. Gillan's vocal work is, for the most part, excellent, especially on Mitzie Dupree. The Unwritten Law could have been a good song if the vocals weren't incredibly...stupid, for lack of a better word. The tensions between Gillan and Blackmore resulted in some pretty darn good guitar playing from Ritchie (Dead or Alive) and vocals from Ian trying to bridge the gap ("...why don't we call it a day before we call it a nightmare, darlin'?") or lashing out ("...you think I'm chained up, but I'm just tied down"). Overall, "The House of Blue Light" is a consistent, if sometimes unspectacular, album.
House with no blue.......2007-05-12
Great title but where is the blues ??? no likee....
This isn't your father's Deep Purple.......2007-03-15
I my humble opinion this was the best of the reunited Deep Purple. Perfect Strangers was a great album but the music was cut from the same cloth that much of the early Deep Purple and Rainbow for that matter. The thing that was great about the original Mark II two lineup was that from "In Rock" to "Fireball" to "Machine Head" to "Who Do We Think We Are" the sound and music on each of the albums was very different. There was growth and adventure in the development of each album. The House of Blue Light returned to an attempt to be creative. Granted these won't be the songs that will talk about forever or hardly at all twenty years later but they are great in their own rights. Songs like "The Spanish Archer", "Hard Lovin' Woman", "Strangeways", "The Unwritten Law", and "Dead or Alive" show a real stepping outside of the box with the style of the band. It was unfortunate that this album and tour were marred by the fighting within the band however as has always been the case with the band, the music is seemingly at it's best when there is tension from within. I have heard the album termed as an "experimental" album and I would have to agree and say that this was a successful experiment.
One and a half stars for Spanish Archer . . . ........2006-12-29
I'm not sure what DP was trying to be on this effort, but it didn't work. Maybe they weren't trying too hard to be anything at all, which would explain the insipid songwriting and mostly forgettable performances.
The opening two tracks, "Bad Attitude" and "Unwritten Law", are decent -- no memorable riffs or great performances, but listenable. "The Spanish Archer," featuring some interesting guitar work by RB, is far better than that. The rest are hardly worth mentioning. Songs like "Dead or Alive" and "Mad Dog" have plenty of energy but no life. (The blue lights are on but nobody's home?) Overall, these songs sound almost like each musician was recorded separately and the tracks were later mixed.
"Perfect Strangers," which preceded this, is one of Deep Purple's best albums, and "The Battle Rages On" is very good. As far as "The House of Blue Light" goes, get "Spanish Archer" for your IPOD and then close the door.
My favorite Deep Purple album.......2006-10-30
Talk about an underrated album, from an underrated legendary band.
When most famous groups reunite (like Cream or Pink Floyd) they do it for a one-off show, or a small reunion tour and then it's goodbye! But NOT Deep Purple, once they reunited it was stated: We are in it for the long haul. Boy, they weren't kidding!
This was the follow up to their famous reunion album "Perfect Strangers." I always found this album, "The House of Blue Light" to be even better. Of all the rock music I bought back in the 80's only a handful are still played in my house. This being one of them.
Ian Gillan has to be one of the most underrated lyricists in all of rock music. Next to Ozzy and Robert Plant, Gillan's lyrics are like Bob Dylan, or Dylan back in the 60's. Anyway, the rest of the band are brilliant as ever. For being an 80's sounding rock album it has held up much better than all the other hard rock outfits of that era.
Highlights: The Unwritten Law, Dead Or Alive, The Spanish Archer and Strangeways

Pretty good.......2006-01-13
Another enjoyable album from Deep Forest. Makes a great gift!
International richness.......2005-03-17
French, African, Peru, Asia, it all melts together so deliciously here. One thing I loved about the CD insert was more than passing mention of the artists. Love the South African voices which remind me a lot of the Ladysmith Black Mambazo singers from Paul Simons Graceland album.
Something Deep Forest does that is so rare and magical is use the human voice and unique instruments in a wonderful, rich and bountiful way.Deep Weather is a song that as I close my eyes I am reminded of almost rhythmic conversations I have heard on the beaches of Belize, Brazil or even Hawaii. And the harmonica or accordion used in the piece make it rustic as well.
My family laughed when I said that Comparsa started out reminding me of some Swiss dancers and quickly bounced over to some Cossack dancers and then Argentina. Talk about a world tour of dance.
Tres Maria the CD cover notes is dedicated to Ochun, Pantheon's divinity Yoruba, God of sweet waters, Queen of Beauty and Love, Master of Gold. Have read that this is where the custom of tossing a coin in a fountain or water source came from. Anyway the song is as sensual as she is said to have been.
Radio Belize has some awesome Spanish guitar work, and electronic vocals that are utterly fun to listen to. This whole CD is one I put on when I want to get alot done during the day. Not only is the music happy and well tempered but one cannot help but smile when listening to the CD. Also love what appears to be either alto or bass saxophone.
La lune se bat avec les etoiles... sounds a bit like some of what Yanni has on his Tribute CD. Which like his CD's done from the Taj Mahal, Forbidden City and Greece has such international flavours.
Forest Power has the rich and varied voices and flavours of Deep Forests Boheme CD.
Media Luna has a very Peruvian sound in my opinion. Even though the CD insert says its more 'Arab and Andalusian music meet in the world mix'. But listen closely and there it is. That beautiful Arabic voice.
All I know is I love it!!!
Deep Forest Rocks !!!!!.......2004-12-31
Deep Forest is one of the rare music groups which blend world music in a harmonious and coherent style. Their tracks stretch from Macedonia to Solomon Islands and from Hungary to Mongolia. It is really a soothing experience to listen to Deep Forest.
Wonderfully light.......2003-01-29
Deep Forest's third CD called Comparsa is wonderfully light and highly spiritual. As usual in their music, there is an element of folk music from different continents - this one represents some tribal sounds again. It is happy, stunning. My four-year-old daughter adores it. Great dancing tunes on top of dramatic, meditative scores. Highly recommended!
their best, IMHO.......2002-08-31
I like the first CD, Deep Forest, and I *Really* like this one. It really does justice to the World Music idea by incorporating folk sounds into a very upbeat sound.
What helps is the influence of the folk sounds adds naturally to the dance flavor of the CD, rather than being forced.
This was one of those few CDs that I put on "Repeat All" and listened to non-stop for several days after I got it.

Album Description
The first new studio album from Deep Dish since 1998's release of Junk Science, George Is On features 14 new studio tracks including the amazing dancefloor filler "Flashdance". "Say Hello" is set to follow in its footsteps. The album also features an interpretation of "Dreams", which has been rerecorded with Stevie Nicks herself. There are also two tracks with long time collaborator Richard Morel, and further appearances from Anousheh Khalili - the vocalist on "Say Hello" and "Flashdance".
Customer Reviews:
Great DJ's...Mediocre "Producers".......2007-03-18
I was pretty excited about Deep Dish's second studio album. In my opinion, when these guys mix as a duo, they are difficult to top. Anyone who has had the pleasure of listening to them live would probably agree unless they don't like house and progressive house music. Unfortunately, I don't think their amazing mixing skills translate into the world of producing.
I'm not sure what I was expecting from this album. Probably something a little closer to the tracks featured in their amazing four disc set, Global Underground 025:Toronto.
George is On contains four tracks that I actually enjoy. The rest are very mediocre and a couple are fairly lame.
If you love GU021:Moscow and GU025:Toronto and expect similar tracks on this album...you will be DEEPly disappointed. I was.
deep dish without the fire.......2006-12-03
first> i have to say i've always admired deep dish for being the
masters-of-the-trade that they truly are. they rate in the highest echelon
of dj/remixers modern music has seen. their ability to take some plainly
palatable music and push it to the edge is legend just as is their ability
take some pretty wild experimental stuff and pull it back to some digestable,
needless to say, danceable middle-ground.
but this album lacks in more than one department and it has nothing to do with
artistic freedom-of-choice....or perhaps it has everything to do with it.
i actually think it has to do with fear.
the fear of not being ALL that one can be and becoming less than what you were
yesterday.
the album sports a silly title and cover to begin with.
there is the obvious attempt to be political and fashionable at the same
time.
the jumping in the air in posed-mannered excitement in asian track-suits
is more teen-age than new-age or future-core age or
even old-age (wise-age).
then again i'd be excited too if i got stevie nicks in my studio.
the songs...(and it's always about the songs) are simply lacking here.
there's so much talent here all put to very little use.
it's like ten most-crafty carpenters driving in a finish-nail in a coner piece of
baseboard....but the industry> being what it is....
everyone puts some huge halogens on it and exclaims...miracle.
morel sounds like he's going through the motions here
and i've found him to be often intriguing if not downright gutsy.
the girls do well but are never pushed....even some vocal-effect to
magnify the edge could've done wonders in many places.
nicks sounds good and the song is good (well...a classic to be sure)
it's clean minimal interpetation has it's appeal but again even that could've and
should've been pushed.
oddly enough a song from the 70s is the best to be found on this 2006 album.
some of the songs are just plain bad.
i haven't checked disc 2 yet but that's not what this cd is about....
i don't think.
this is about deep dish offering up supposedly original music.
i saw them live last year where they managed to push much of their program into
a domain which i myself (having grown up with iggy and the stooges and
blue cheer and bowie gabriel every form of pop punk disco and electronic
music imagineable)
experienced as extremely edgy....their set was as sonically aggressive
as anything i've ever encountered (great lights too) perhaps even to the
point of hostile.
i won't say i didn't enjoy the show as i felt in many ways it served as a
metaphor for (or protest against) george bush and america's invasion and
continued assault on iraq.
perhaps a stretch on my part but these weren't happy times and deep dish
wan't about to deny it.
so for this album to show almost no fire...very little in the way of edge
outrage or
urgency.....i hate to say it but they actually sound scared.
perhaps my biggest complaint here has to do with their constant reliance
on these delicately limp acoustic guitar-sounds/samples to sweeten the equation
as if to cover for the fact that there's no material here.
at least a few sounds coming from some of the great devices available to
us....ya know?....a little guitar-ish w/a little cosmic twinkle twang
whhheeeeoooouoummmmmrrrr??!!
i will always love deep dish and this album is in
no way able to knock them off their well-deserved place in history...
their pedestal> but
for those of you who need to find out what works gained
them their place in electronic music's hall-of-fame.....
skip this and pick almost anything else of theirs.
they are gods.....but if you know anything of earth-mythology.....
well...they are gods!

Lackluster.......2006-03-24
When left to their own devices Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, who form Deep Dish, tend to overlook the punch needed in crafting a compelling dance song--even when the punch is already there. Unlike their cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic "Dreams" (featuring Stevie Nicks) and the brilliant "Say Hello" their minimalist approach in production style is very much an attribute, however becomes a bore for most of "George Is On" (the duos follow up to 1998's "Space Junk"). That case is best supported by the album's third track, "Flashdance," which is really a cover of Shandi's "He's A Dream" from the film and soundtrack of the same name.
If anyone has heard "He's A Dream" would know that the verses sung on the song lead up to a wicked blast of a chorus, but here DD thought it would be better to drop the chorus altogether, thus making the song anti-climatic; which leads me to believe that DD lack not only the production skills to re-produce an effective cover, if not a better one ("Dreams" aside), but do not have the skills of real musicians to know when progession is needed.
"George Is On" is pretty much a spotty and flawed effort that's demonstrative of how ego takes precedence over real talent and the need to strive to out-do yourself and your limitations when your name becomes a brand and is all you need to get by. I'm assuming that's why DD covered Dire Straits 1985 gem "Money for Nothing."
Daft Punk and Fat Boy Slim fused with Moby in a House Set.. A++++++.......2006-03-12
"George Is On" from Deep Dish lands with a wonderful feeling throughout the entire album to give it a sound possibility of a perfect score that it so well deserves in the same landmark tradition of Mobo's "Play" or Fatboy Slim's "You've come a long way baby" but more akin to the groundbreaking "Homework" from Daft Punk. Let it grow on you and then let it grow some more and more and more.... This is Alpha soundworkz that makes the dead wanna dance and angels sing in beat. Wow, wow, wow, wow... SAY HELLO!! SAY HELLO!! TRICK IN TIME!!! My feet are on fire...
A new feel for these classic virtuousos.......2006-01-10
Bravo!!! Not a "mix" more of an album, taking after felix da housecat's "Devin Dazzle". Also it kinda has that 80's feel to it as well, but thats the direction of things lately. I love it, another great one. I would never have anything bad to say about Deep Dish, they just kik serious ass.

Customer Reviews:
The Price Club.......2005-04-28
"I am here," said Leontyne Price when interviewed as she opened the new Metropolitan Opera with Samuel Barber's underrated ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, "and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to." Back in the 1960s Price was one of the greatest divas in all of opera, and it wasn't just her voice but her magnificent stage presence, combined with her social activism. All of the above come into play in this collection of secular songs and ditties, some of them traditional plantation chanties and others, art songs and a scattering of pop music. And some of them, like Gershwin's "Summertime," cross the ever-permeable boundaries between Broadway and classical. These recordings were made at different times in Price's career, and her voice, while always angelic, has different shadings and reaches a different range of timbre in each separate recording date, but there is no question that, as time goes by, she is able to impart a richness of life experience noticeably absent from some of her earlier work.
"Ave Maria" sounds heavenly no matter which way you slice it, and as for "I Wonder As I Wander," it brings tears to your eyes. If you have a heart that's beating you will be moved by this rendition. "Ein feste Burg" is pretty strong, but Price seems more comfortable with the traditional spirituals, though perhaps it is the slightly off-kilter sounds of the Ambrosian Singers (what a name) who back her up on many of these tracks, that detract slightly from the experience. Compare "Lead Kindly Light" for a clear sense of what constitutes authority vs. what is a wee bit overproduced. If you had this compilation, and perhaps one of Leontyne Price's Christmas albums, you could attain nirvana any time you wanted to, just flip a switch and close your eyes, let her lift you up on wings of song.
A living legend.......2005-03-10
Leontyne Price (still alive) and already passing into immortality amongst vocal artists, both classical and popular. Leontyne Price stands at the pinnacle of her classical art, but those who only know her work in La Forza del destino or the Verdi Requiem are in for a heart rending treat with this album where Leontyne Price goes home to her roots in Mississippi and gives an unabashed account of the classic spirituals she sang as a young woman. Like John Mc Cormacks rendering of Irish songs there is a personal longing and devotion expressed here that reveals a side of the artist not known in the bulk of their "classical" repetoire. A sense of going home like Citizen Kane's rosebud, or as Dorothy Gale observes at the end of the Wizard of Oz "everything I could ever have wanted was right in my own backyard "
not your daddy's old timey spiritual.......2004-06-23
Agreed this is a good cd for a beautiful voice, but this is not, repeat not, for someone who wants to hear that old-timey religious fervor that you think of when you've been to a Black Baptist hand-clapping, standing, swaying, and singing service.
Immaculate Vocals of Leontyne Price.......2003-12-31
IMMACULATE, SUPERB vocal range and style! There's no other words that can complement Miss Leontyne Price's vocal arrangements. Miss Price's voice is strong, and shrills very nicely to the instruments played on many songs listed on this double CD which is a joy to treasure; every song listed are songs I was raised to hearing and singing. Miss Price is the reason why many of these songs remain in popularity and presently used. Miss Leontyne Price has been incredible in many of her past performances. This is my fourth CD of Miss Price and I am glad to own this particular CD forever and ever. Many thanks to the executors who found this remarkable album and upgraded it to a CD format! **Angi**
Great Gospel Stuff.......2001-04-12
This is a great CD. The only problem I have with it is that on some of the selections there is a boy's choir screaming in the background, and this takes away (a bit) from her performance. That said, her best selections are those that are either unaccompanied or those where her voice is not buried. Songs that strike me are - His Name So Sweet, He's Got The Whole World, Were You There, I Wonder as I Wander, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and my all time favourite Summertime. Enough said.

Customer Reviews:
Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15
As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".
Mediocre.......2006-05-17
The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.
One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06
I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.
Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24
Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.
Really Good Collection.......2004-07-11
I bought this in part because it had soundtracks to tv shows that are unavailable. My husband and I watch aome British programming. Many of the theme songs are for what seems like obscure British shows. That said; it has been enjoyable to hear music that I would normally never hear. Some music does sound tinny; some are very very rich, and some music is derived from actual preformances from the original artists. I think this is worth buying because is has a wonderful blend of music. The pieces are full soundtracks so they includes the parts of the theme song which are often edited out. I think the orchestra's who preformed the music did a great job. I have MonsterMania which redoes the soundtracks to the Godzilla movies. The interpretation is less heavy and stark than the preformance we associate with the original soundtrack; but I regard it as a new way to appreciate the music and all the componets which make the song unique.

Perhaps the most talented, diverse, and adventurous four hands in dance music production today, Deep Dish have fittingly chosen Moscow as the venue for their Global Underground debut. Combining the intrigue and mystery of the Russian capital with their own bottomless pit of discovery, Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharem Tayebi weave one of GU's classic journeys. Disc one starts with 16b Vs Morel's warm, house-flavored "Escape (Driving to Heaven)," which shifts into Soul Provider's "Rise (Mas Collective Mix)." The ear-catching, Moog-like note during SSHH's smooth-stomping "Hold That Body (Wally Lopez & Dr. Kucho Remix)" is curiously addictive, and soon afterward we reach the heart of Moscow 021 with the psychedelic trance surround-sound of Chab's "The Dub Session (A Cooler Dub/A Harder Dub)." Shirazinia kicks off the second disc with a more direct nod to root influences, first using a dub-tinged Way Out West mix of BT's "Shame" before busting out a truly awesome trance dub gem, Blackwatch Presents Professor Okku's "Word Unspoken." Shuffle in other seamlessly folded treasures such as the driving Markus Shultz remix of Fatboy Slim's "Bird of Prey," the tense mystery of Accorsi/Robb's "Foundation" and the fluid denouement of Envy's "Faith," and you have another superb GU set for the collection. This record proves that in the world of trance-house DJs, Deep Dish are masters of their craft. --Steffan Chirazi

Customer Reviews:
Solid up to a point.......2007-04-13
I agree with most of the reviews already on here. Both discs have stellar track selection, but there are some that seemingly don't belong, etc.
Having said that, I still listen to both of these CDs pretty dam often. Specifically disc one, the mix from I Can See the Lights through Hot is great, because the tracks go together so well.
Disc two is kind of like two mixes in one. It goes from track one up to I feel stereo, the track runs out, and then Bird of Prey starts at its beginning and the mix takes an entirely new direction (that's not to say this isn't good - Manilla Sunrise is a great track).
Also I'd like to note that I just got two 10" subs in my car, and Moscow sounds great out of them.
In summary, this album is well worth the money - I've got most of the global underground albums and this one has a place with me.
Its good but that about it.......2007-01-04
The only reason I got this CD was because it was recorded in Moscow, my home town. The double Cd has a few tracks that I enjoyed but for the most part it was a very blah CD for me. I have seen Deep Dish live and enjoyed their music, but this Cd just didn't do it for me.
You Can't Go Wrong.......2006-07-22
You can't go wrong with this cd or deep dish in general. It has tracks from Morel, Dido, BT & Fatboy Slim. The cd is banging but as the liner notes indicate, the second cd is heavier. The album is composed of dark vocals and deep bass booming tracks. With tracks from Dido-Thank You and IIO-Rapture, file along with Stevie Nicks-Dreams in developing the Deep Dish style. This could be the best deep dish album. The mixing on toronto may be a bit better. The only problem is my cd skips. Probably a problem with production. Filing along with Deep Dish Renaissance, Toronto #25 & Dubfire Toronto. If you are looking for any deep dish, start with Toronto or this cd.
Timeless.......2006-06-23
One of my favorite cd's it has great house beats, its tribal dark sexy moody bassy and has that phat bottomed funk.
Anyone who like any genre of house will love this cd.
THE CD DESERVES 5 STARS BECAUSE IT IS A CREAM !!.......2006-05-20
Hello,
This CD was choose by DJ MAG as the BEST CD COMPILATION for the 2001. Come on guys that is enough to say about this CD. It is the best in their genre. The CD moves from Deep house to a Deep Trance, then comes a tribal sound...and BANG...another Deep Trance takes you on a journey that you will really enjoy. I hope that you listen this CD at a high level of volumen to feel and the listen the real effects of the mix.
