"Lil' Wyyyyte!!!!".......2007-06-28
I agree with all the other reviews of this album...Just do me a favor and have alot of highway ahead of you when u put this in your cd-player...It's just marva-lous...Songs like "Get High"(listen to the violins) makes me feel glad to be alive and free..They move my soul.. "Suicide" (when it's 2:00 A.M) and your on the road by yourself, just ridin, chillin, headin to the house or something, and "Fu*k'd Up", (when you reachin your destination of your road-trip).Ima HUGE Hypnotize Mindz fan, Three 6 fan, etc.. Got ALL they muzik, even some underground.. I only wish 106 & Park, BET, MTV, etc would give Three 6 the credit they deserve, but their music is targeted to a specific group of people ( Real Niggas) not EVERYBODY like that bull-**** that's out there now.... Sorry.....uhh,, BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!
You Thought Your Boy Done Overdosed!.......2007-06-27
As the Hypnotize Minds label (and Three 6 Mafia specifically) gets thinner and thinner, there is still talent left on their short roster. Lil Wyte, a mostly underground MC who broke through with tracks like "Oxycotton" and "Acid", has remained very consistent with his music. Even though his "hits" probably never got play on the radio, you can almost guarantee every dirty south Hip-Hop fan knows the name Lil Wyte. With two successful albums already under his belt (2003's "Doubt Me Now" and 2004's "Phinally Phamous"), Wyte is back with his 3rd studio album, "The One and Only". As always, DJ Paul and Juicy J are behind the boards to deliver the raw production that they always come with. Rather suprisingly, Lil Wyte doesn't have guests on the album, with the exception of Project Pat on three cuts where he's on the chorus. Other than that, it's just Lil Wyte doing his thing.
Some of the standout cuts on here are "Feelin' Real Pimpish" with Project Pat delivering a perfect chorus, and the laid back production really compliments Wyte's flow well. "I Got That Candy" has a smooth chorus with Wyte giving his ode to candy paint. "Suicide" is a track where Wyte spits fire about how he feels and how he wants to end his life. "Get Wrong" has that intensity you're going to feel when listening to a Lil Wyte album, and so does "Choppa On Da Back Seat", "We Ain't Cool", and "Talking Ain't Walking". He delivers his mandatory drug raps on "F***** Up", "Get High", "Do It Fluid". He lets you know he has paper on "Cake" and "Gettin Money Boy". I really can't say there is a bad song on here. If you're a fan of Hypnotize Minds and Three Six Mafia, then pick up Lil Wyte's third album. It won't disappoint.
ANOTHER HCP CLASSIC.......2007-06-16

Topflight pop singer pays tribute to her heritage on this amazing roots ranchera album that also features excellent backing by the world-famous Mariachi Vargas, all under the experienced hand of master arranger-composer-producer Ruben Fuentes. Everything clicks wonderfully here, but numbers that set a new standard include "Tu Solo Tu," an incredibly harmonic love ode; "Por un Amor," on the price of real love; and "Los Laureles," a song of declaration on which Ronstadt soars unbelievably high. These are old Mexican classics, played by arguably the world's best mariachi group and sung by one of North America's greatest vocal talents. Extras include performances by another world figure, requinto player Gilbert Puente, who made trio history when he led Mexico's Los Tres Reyes in the '50s and '60s. In the mariachi-ranchera genre, this CD easily ranks among the very best. --Ramiro Burr

Muy lindo.......2007-04-26
I did not know that Linda Ronstadt was Hispanic until I heard this CD. Her papa was definitely a Mariachi, it shows in her singing. I like his Spanish CDs better than her English ones.
I am so glad that I found this CD. I hope that she continues to do more songs in the Mariachi style. I'm glad that she was able to go back to her ethnic roots. This is a wonderful, beautiful CD.
Essence of Mexico.......2007-04-20
Linda Ronstadt does an excellent job in capturing the essence of Mexico. Being of partial Mexican origin myself, and having traveled south of the border many times; I could see in my mind images of Old Mexico...very traditional and very outstanding.
Other Spanish language artists used for comparison: Lola Betran, Nat "King" Cole, Nana Mouskouri, Vinciente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, Ana Gabriel.
Canciones de Mi Padre.......2007-01-22
This is a great mariachi piece--one of my very favorite CDs and a must have for Linda Ronstadt fans. Linda is fantastic, and, oh boy, can she hold a note!

this cd reminided me of my grandmother, she would listen to this every sunday as she would fix breakfast.
What A Voice.......2006-07-02
My Parents really enjoyed this particulay album when it came out a few years ago. This past month, we celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and this CD was played throughout the grand party - bringing sweet memories and tears of rememberance to both parents eyes and their childrens eyes. Being that Mom is of hispanic heritage and dad's deep appreciation of that culture - that adds up to my love of this type of music. This CD is a treasure that will provide memories forever.

Alpha, the latest outing from this veteran act is both good and maddening. Good because many of the riffs and the songs to which they are affixed are driven by an element of boogie--for lack of a better term--too often absent from contemporary metal. Maddening because the group often cops out and trades in original and challenging ideas for the expected mid-song freak outs that will no doubt send listeners over the brink once the band takes the stage but do little but inspire passive listening in the current setting. As good as Sevendust may be on the stage, this is the studio and they owe it to listeners to create an experience that will last them a lifetime. A few more risks and less of an allegiance to brute force may serve this band well as it does in the more subtle moments of "Deathstar" and "Driven." --Jedd Beaudoin
Customer Reviews:
another solid cd from sevendust.......2007-06-06
this is sevendust's 6th album and its a great one. it might be tied with animosity for the best cd. i like almost every song except story of your life. suffer, confessions of hatred, alpha and burn are my favorite tracks. the only problem i have with this cd is that morgan screams on every song and that gets real annoying. besides that great album guys. just try to scream less and use more melody which is what your best at.
Kick Ass.......2007-05-14
I've been a Sevendust fan for years, and I admit that their music takes a little while to get used, from screaming to melodic choruses. anyway, this last album had a lot of really tasty double bass and the band sounds as tight as ever. Killer guitar licks and I think this is their best album yet, hands down. the album really rips.
Vintage Sevendust...........2007-05-13
When Lajon said in a interview awhile back that the new songs they were writing were some of the hardest stuff that they have ever written, songs that make "Enemy" sound mellow. He wasn't kidding. If your a old school Sevendust fan, then this album is your album to end all Sevendust albums. This is a return to form of the in your face, rip your through your skull Sevendust. From begining to end this album doesn't give up, its relentless, lyrically and musically. This is quite possibly the hardest, most in your face album since they released "Sevendust" back in 1997. I've been a fan of Sevendust since 1999 when the released "Home", and I've eagerly awaited every album since. Every album they have made is very good, and Alpha is not an exception.
Bottom Line: Alpha is just another great album from Sevendust. If you thought they got soft, they are back, and they are back to rip through your skull, and believe me, thats a good thing.
Juvenile.......2007-05-13
I suppose that over the years it can be said that Sevendust have been hit or miss, album-wise. They have the ability to write outstanding melody and crushing heavy hitters (i.e. Angel's Son and Black, respectively), but each album seems to find Sevendust attempting to find their place over again. It isn't the reinvention that I dislike as much as the lack of PROGRESSIVE direction with the "Sevendust style" as they continue to move forward in their career.
Alpha is a manifestation of the group's attempt at a return to an earlier era, as well as an attempt to harness a more brutal, less-polished sound, but it lacks conviction to me. The lyrics are weak in the sense that they attempt to express angst that sounds as though the words were composed by a 12-year-old. For example: Confessions of Hatred: "Responsible for bringing out my darkest side/I tried to hide what I feel but it's my time/
To inflict all the damage". If I were a fan of Hatebreed and their adolescent approach to angst, then maybe lyrics like these would trigger that itch that makes one want to break windows as a kid, but I am not, and they don't. The words seems empty and the rest of the lyrics in the song are a collection of rambling thought. That goes for much of the rest of the album.
The underlying music sounds more like a giant experiment instead of a composed effort. The guitar pieces are boring, even confusing, and I listen to Mudvayne, who constantly play in strange time signatures. However, most of the riffs on this album seem forced, and though I can admire a lack of flow (though, no one beats Tool for being able to play odd time signatures and create a groove), it needs to be able to flow well. By the end of the album, all the chunky parts began to run together and sound like they were cut from the same riff in the song before it.
However, it isn't a total flop, in my opinion. "Driven", "Deathstar",
"Alpha", "Story of Your Life" and (in spite of it's name) "Aggression" are all listenable tracks, in spite of my reservations on some of their lyrics and direction. Overall though, this album is weaker than most of the albums that have come before it.
I hope these guys find their direction again, complete with stronger lyrics, melody and composition. Next, Animosity, and Sevendust were all good albums, and I hope that they find that same energy in the future.
Sevendust Rule and I wish I was in the band!!!!.......2007-05-13
From the first song to the last one this album rocks. In a world where most bands change their style of music to more main stream crap, Sevendust have stayed true to their fans. Alpha is just awesome! The songs are fast, aggressive and heavy and I love the double kick on all the songs. LJ's vocals rule. If you are a fan of Sevendust, you will absolutly dig this album. If you feel let down by your current favourite bands, get this album and become a fan of Sevendust. I cant stop listening to this album, it rocks! Buy it!!!!!!

This long-awaited, highly anticipated follow-up to 1987's much-loved initial Trio offering doesn't disappoint. On Trio II, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and Dolly Parton weave a spell that's equal parts traditional and contemporary, country and folk, vision and voice. It's their seamless musical blend of these counterpoints--as in the sweet, sweeping harmonies on Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" or the instrumentally spare acoustic presentation of the Carter Family's "Lover's Return"--that makes these songs such treasures. When individual voices soar and fuse together to create distinct new voices, when instinct leads the way for artistry to follow, the result is perfect harmony, pure magic. --Alexandra Russell
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic! .......2007-06-27
Some people are complaining about the duplication of songs on this cd and Linda Ronstadt's Feels Like Home cd. When these tracks were recorded, there were conflicts with schedules and an argument took place between Ms. Parton and Ms. Ronstadt (I remember reading an article that Dolly told the details). After the feud, the recordings were shelved and it looked very grim that this cd would ever be released. Ms. Ronstadt's company was pushing for a cd to release and since there didn't seem to be any hope of another Trio recording, she used the tracks of her and Ms. Harris (and in her linear notes on her cd, she thanks Ms. Harris for her loyalty because of the feud between her and Dolly.) They decided to record other singers for the 'Trio' affect, they recruited Alison Krauss (a frequent Dolly collabirator). Dolly used one track for her Treasures cd and also used Ms. Harris but also used a third singer for the 'Trio' affect. After several years, things worked out so that they could release the Trio cd but of course some of the tracks were released on previous cd's. When the trio was promoting the cd, you could sense some tension between Ms. Parton and Ms. Ronstadt.
Even with all the drama, the cd is terrific and they sound perfect together. The original concept was to have each lady take lead on a cd. The first one has Dolly being lead on most songs and the second one has Linda taking lead on most songs. Doubtful that a third cd will be released using Emmylou as the lead, which is a shame because these ladies combined can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Angelic is the word that comes to mind when I hear the three of them harmonizing.
Weak sequel.......2007-06-19
Despite the beautiful voices, especially Linda's and Emmylou's, this album is a real disappointment. As good as the song selection was on "Trio", the same can't be said about this turkey. Mostly blah songs that are totally uninspiring. Spend your money on Emmylou's anthology or some of Ronstadt's other albums. Their version of "After the Gold Rush" does have its moments though.
Really Good Follow Up To "Trio".......2006-05-08
The album is so great, I can't believe I never knew about this one earlier. The album is so moving, the music & the singers on here are totally haunting. The songs get to where they never leave your mind and it gets you where your listening to it over & over again, of course the most haunting and beautfully sad song on here is "After The Goldrush", I really can't understand what it's about, but all I know is that's the one song that sticks in my mind. "Trio II (2)" also gives you three different kinds of music, there's Country, Bluegrass, & a little bit of rock/pop especially on "5. The Blue Train", "8. He Rode All The Way To Texas" & "9. Feel's Like Home". Emmylou Harris & Linda Ronstadt are the lead singers on here & their great, But! Dolly Parton (one of my favorite's ever!) only sings for the leads on track 4 & 8, the rest is either back vocals are all together. Overall it's an A- album.
Powerful voices.......2003-12-05
This album might not have been as successful as the original TRIO album from 1987, but I think it's even better. The song selection is very strong, and the songs suit these ladies very well. The harmonies are beautiful. There's nothing more I could ask for from this album. It opens with the beautiful "Lovers Return", which is a Carter Family song. "High Sierra" is a beautiful song, Linda sounds wonderful on this song. Emmylou takes the helm in a cover of Dolly's "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". They do a great version of Neil Young's "After The Goldrush" which is just stunning. Linda is lead on "The Blue Train", which is a very nice song. Other highlights include "When We're Gone, Long Gone", "Feels Like Home", "You'll Never Be The Sun" and "He Rode All The Way To Texas". This album was originally recorded in 1994 but there was problems with the release and other factors, so it wasn't released until early 1999. Definately a gem!
This Version of "After the Goldrush" is Breath-taking!!.......2003-06-20
I bought the first Trio CD when it came out and enjoyed most of the songs there. I have to admit, I only bought this second Trio release because of one song "After the Goldrush". This has to be one of the most beautiful, breath-taking, chills-down-your-spine song ever recorded. Most remakes usually aren't as good as the originals, but I beg to differ on this one. This is one of those songs that I crank up as loud as my speakers and ears can stand it - I feel like I'm hearing music and vocals from heaven. It's just astounding. I did finally give the rest of the CD a listen to, and it's fairly decent. But, even if all these other songs sucked, to me, it would have been worth the price just to have "After the Goldrush".

Amazon.com essential recording
Emmylou Harris's formula has been to match a crack crew of left-of-center country players with an assortment of tasteful tunes and head into the studio with a nonintrusive producer. Now and then (most notably the 1980 bluegrass collection Roses in the Snow), she tampers with her basic blueprint and comes up with something exceptional. Wrecking Ball is one of those. Daniel Lanois's radiant production no longer seems as fresh as it did on albums by U2, Peter Gabriel, and Bob Dylan, but here its hum enfolds Harris like an electric blanket. Lanois's usual recruits, including U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr., and New Orleans regulars Malcolm Burn, Brian Blade, and Daryl Johnson, lay down a solid base for Harris's weary vocals and Lanois's buzzing guitar. At its core, Wrecking Ball seems almost too finely calculated. Hot producer plus sought-after songwriters plus venerated performer frequently totals to deadly bore. Here, however, all that calculation adds up to something. --Steven Stolder

Emmylou dressed in barbed wire...........2007-06-27
Some time shortly after this was released, I was fortunate enough to catch a free Emmylou concert in Nashville, courtesy of the Thursday afternoon "Dancing in the District" series on the banks of the Cumberland. Most of her material that day came from this CD, with the "barbed wire guitar" playing provided by Buddy Miller in the same style as presented here. Many of Emmylou's core country audience left before they end, disappointed I suppose at her new approach. But I was enthralled with her courage and flexibility in stepping out on this branch. The combination of classic material and the raw edge was perfect. Emmylou produced by Daniel Lanois seemed a match made in heaven. There isn't a "clunker" here. David Olney's title tune "Deeper Well" is super strong but is actually surpassed by several tunes especially the unforgettable "Where Will I Be" and "Goin' Back to Harlan." The closest I can come to a complaint is that nothing can surpass her live version of "Goin' Back" on the Lilith Fair concert CD. So seek that out as a complement to what you get here.
Interesting but flawed.......2007-05-12
FIRST CRITICISM: The album is badly named.
The track "Wrecking Ball" is about love that goes on after the relationship has ended. It is a double pun, contrasting the damage done by a wrecking ball with the beauty of taking one's love to a dance; (the kind of dance where you break up), conjuring up a bitter sweet image of something broken yet alive, really very clever ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND IT. However, an album title should not be so obtuse. It should sum up the content of the work in one phrase to someone who has not yet heard it. For 99.99% of people seeing this album in a record shop a "Wrecking Ball" is a large metal object for demolishing buildings, probably the title of a heavy metal album.
Apart from the theme of love continuing after separation this album also expresses the themes of liberation from an unhappy life, nostalgia for one's childhood, belief in the mythical Jehovah, internal corruption and fading with age. Emmylou would have been better advised to call it "Old Woman's Blues".
SECOND CRITICISM: Second rate vocals.
Emmylou has very little character to her voice. This makes her perfect for singing harmonies on other people's records, (which is where she has had most of her success). Unfortunately it is not much good when singing the lead, which is why her solo success has been much less than that of Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstandt, both of whom exhibit far more "character" in their voice.
I note 2nd rate intonation in some songs. Check out "Wrecking Ball" and "Deeper Well" for example. I know nobody's perfect but I expect better than this at this level. Unless she is doing it deliberately, perhaps to ape Neil Young, but that would be just silly.
Inappropriate and childish is her habit of drifting off into falsetto midway through a word. Sure yodeling is part of the Country and Western tradition but in my opinion it is out of place here. She doesn't do this every song but it's irritating when it happens, especially bad are "Where Will I Be" and "All My Tears".
Most serious of all is her habit on many songs of not pronouncing words fully, especially leaving off the last syllable. This might have been cool in the days of Elvis Presley but at her age she ought to know better. A mature artist should go to some trouble to select songs with good lyrics. To then not pronounce them is a crime. Again this is not every song but it is irritating when it happens, especially bad are "Where Will I Be", "Goodbye", "Wrecking Ball" and "Orphan Girl".
Her singing is not actually bad, it's just that it is not first rate. There are any number of singers who could have done better justice to this material. When you consider the quality of the production it's a shame not to have a first rate singer out front.
THIRD CRITICISM: Poor choice of songs.
When you have the resources at your disposal as they had on this album, why choose second rate songs? In particular "Every Grain Of Sand" is not one of Bob Dylan's better efforts. Considering the vast output of his genius there are plenty of good and great songs of his to cover, "Every Grain Of Sand" is not in that category. There are other examples of second rate songs on this album although not as starkly inferior as this. The fact that no hit was forthcoming from this effort, despite the money and talent poured in, eloquently proves my point about the quality of the songs.
THE PRODUCTION
The great thing about this album is that is has Daniel Lanois producing. He brings a rich, dark and sombre feel to this work that is quite unique. He has really taken Country in a new direction, the Lanois direction! Considering he was been U2's producer on their 2 biggest albums it is not surprising that it sounds at times like a U2 album. In particular check out "Where Will I Be". If Bono were singing it would BE U2! Indeed Emmylou even sounds a bit like Bono on this track.
The mix is dominated by the bass, the bass drum and the snare, as well as the lead vocal. Guitars, harmony vocals, mandolin and banjo etc are well back and almost irrelevant. He gets away with this because the bass is so rich, thick and deep that it carries everything. Check out the amazing bass on "All Mt Tears"... One can only imagine the multi tracking, effects and heavy EQ that made this possible. There is much electric guitar here but it is always heavily loaded with effects and always spacey, similar to Edge's guitar but further back. In fact this album demonstrates quite clearly who is responsible for U2's sound. Daniel could get rid of The Edge, Mullens and Clayton and so long as he kept Bono he could still make U2 records.
CONCLUSION
I am well aware that many people think this is one of the best albums ever made and if they get great enjoyment from it then good luck to them! However that doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws, or that I shouldn't point them out.
I see where these people are coming from. Lanois has produced a rich and addictive sound which does grow on you. And this rare, velvet tapestry tends to make most people, (especially those don't sing), overlook its flaws. The tendency is to unconsciously associate the masterful production with Harris (since it's her album), so that one becomes blind to the grave flaws in her singing. When you realise that the genius in this work is Lanois and not Harris you should be able to see her for what she is, (unless you are a confirmed, one-eyed Harris fan of course, in which case your fate is sealed).
The same psychology applies to the choice of songs. Classy treatment like this could make you think "Mary Had A Little Lamb" was a masterpiece!
Overall, this is a worthwhile and interesting, even classic! but deeply flawed album. Emmylou's singing is not first rate, the songs are mostly weak and the production, though groundbreaking and addictive, is not, in my opinion, the best way to display country music. All would have been forgiven though if it were full of great songs. There were only three that I liked: "All My Tears", "May This Be Love" and "Waltz Across Texas Tonight". If the other 9 had been of that standard or better THEN it would have been a great album.
If you want to get an idea of what this album could have been with its faults corrected get "Achtung Baby" by U2. Now THAT is a great album! Even though the production on Wrecking Ball is more polished than Lanois' earlier effort, yet the first rate singing, the quality songwriting, the cohesive theme and the compelling development from track to track on Achtung Baby really take you somewhere. This is what is missing from Wrecking Ball, CONTENT! and this is why Wrecking Ball cannot be counted amongst the greats.
Great Music!!!.......2007-03-20
I received this DVD right on time. And needless to say, it was everything I expected and more. Great Music, Great Business!!!
Give it time.......2006-07-24
On the first few hearings I was convinced that Daniel Lanois had overwhelmed Emmylou's beautiful and fragile voice to showcase a few production tricks that aren't even that original any more. I played the CD when I was bored with everything else and by this means I've gradually been converted. On a good hi-fi system, the complex and layered arrangement no longer sounds like a wall of mud, but instead resolves into real instruments. Daniel Lanois provides a distinctive sound and in doing so goes beyond what we normally expect from a a producer. However, I now appreciate that the vocals are at the centre of every track, and this fine album is correctly credited to Emmylou Harris. Wrecking Ball is an impressive one-off work that defies classification. I give it 3.9 stars. If you've not heard it yet, keep an open mind and a listen on a good stereo.
Stunning Masterpiece .......2006-06-25
Wow. How to convey in words just how brilliant this album is ? Let me try. This album is deep, spiritual, reflective, sad and hauntingly breathtaking. Every cut is a standout. "Where will I be" is spine-tingling--a song about death and questioning when and why this event eventually happens to us all. "Goodbye" is so painfully beautiful it is hard to listen to the first few times because it makes you want to cry of heartbreak. "All my Tears" is a powerful song that teaches us that we need not be afraid of death if we just have faith. "Wrecking Ball" is dreamy, a bit bizarre, but dreamy nonetheless. "Sweet Old World" is another hard one to listen to. If you've ever lost a loved one to suicide you will know why. The song mentions all the things a person misses when cutting his/her life short. "Goin Back to Harlan" is a sweet number as is the powerful "Walk Across Texas". I don't think anyone else on the planet could pull off such a complex, heavy album and end up in heavenly territory. Emmylou is a true artist and is just brilliant-her vocals are like none other and resonate with pure unadulterated emotion. You need to get this album--it's just that good.

Best compilation album this year!.......2007-07-11
These dudes gonna be a problem. Every song on here bump. Ol' boy Foxx gon' be a star, mark my words. Webbie and Boosie stars in their own right but that young dude got a helluva mic presence too. And Mouse on the tracks... shyyyyt! Louisiana is back. They got that NL bounce on here. I luv it. Wipe Me Down is the biggest song in the country. It ain't a party unless the DJ drop that joint. I sure as hell ain't have a good time if I ain't get wiped down at least twice up in tha club! Lol! Trill Ent in 07!
Wipe Me Down is an appropriate name for the first single -.......2007-05-23
- because after a week, this album maybe best served as a coaster.
Trill Entertainment was a label started by UGK's Pimp C. As one-half of one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time, one would think that the Pimp would have a better ear for talent; I guess one can't be blessed in every aspect of life, and talent scouting is not one of the Pimp's better aspects. Most of the emcees signed to the label are either mind-numbingly mediocre or the definition of wack.
3 Deep would be the most appropriate for the latter title, because both tracks this 'talent' appears on have no redeeming qualities. I believe 3 Deep is a group based on their name, but if they are, I can't distinguish one member from the next; there is absolutely no difference in cadence, flow, or tone if there really is more than one artist appearing on these tracks. In fact, Watch My Shoes is possibly the most asinine boast I've ever heard in hip-hop; the production, which sounds like hyphy meets snap, is equally grating. Do It Stick It is a bit better on the production tip, but nothing will stay in your head after listening to it, even the hook.
On the other end of the spectrum, while still painfully average, both Boosie and Webbie are slowly, but gradually improving. Boosie's voice is abit more tolerable on this release, most likely thanks to how little of it we have to hear compared to Bad Azz; Webbie is slowly becoming an enjoyable emcee. While Webbie gets no solo tracks on this album, he manages to outshine most of his Fam, although Boosie does tend to hold his own when it comes to this type of thing; Boosie's solo track, Thug Me Like That, is actually quite decent too.
Foxx maybe the best rapper in the entire Trill Fam; not a huge claim, but a claim, nonetheless. He's got an intoxicating flow, and decent enough lyrics; he sounds a bit more seasoned than the majority of his compadres, whether he really is or not. Wipe Me Down, one of the better tracks on the album, shows that the young emcee has talent. Big Head is also a rapper with a lot of potential; while he doesn't show it on a lot of the collaborations, his solo track, Politician Networkin', in another one of the hotter tracks on the album, and this time for more than just the beat; Head actually provides some nice bars.
Soulja Boy, Lil Phat, and Shell all appear on Materialistic *****, and that track just sucks. That's all there is to really say about it. Seeing as this is the only cut any of those three find themselves on in this album, it's dumbfounding how it made the final cut; it's probably the worst track on the album next to Watch My Shoes.
The majority of this album is dominated by the three biggest acts on the label, Webbie, Boosie, and the upcoming Foxx; Big Head also gets his fair share of appearances. None of these guys can be considered dope emcees, at least not at this point in their careers, but they're all competenent enough. The beats are pretty hot on most tracks, and simply stupid when they tend to fail. With that being said, I guess it's worth checking out as a presentation of what Trill has to offer; at the same time, don't expect much if it doesn't have Pimp or Bun's name on it, and I can't guarantee this will have any lasting value at all.

Jackson Browne's second album defined the idea of the Southern California singer-songwriter--one part country, one part folk, eight parts introspection. It would be disgustingly maudlin except for the fact that Browne has some powerful songs, like the title track and "Lady of the Well." But he can up the volume a little, turning out a version of his own "Take It Easy" that outdoes the Eagles and cranking up the bar-band boogie on "Redneck Friend." For the most part, though, it's late nights in the dark and candlelight, and Jackson Browne did it well. --Chris Nickson
Customer Reviews:
sophomore jinx?.......2007-07-09
This is a somewhat disappointing follow-up to Browne's superior first album, and not as good as his third, Late for the Sky. If you don't have those 2, I would start there first. Half the songs on this album are very good to excellent, the other half mediocre at best in my estimation. I love Browne's version of Take It Easy (which he co-wrote), better than the Eagles version in my opinion, and the segue to Our Lady of the Well is nice too. An altogether listenable album, but not his best.

It was such a delight to listen to this music again after so many years - beautifully crafted music for the heart
REMASTER ????.......2007-04-11
Fantastic work again from Jackson! My main purpose for entering this "review" is to plead with the label for a REMASTERED version....
I think it is his best.......2007-02-20
And here is why. I will acknowledge that Late For the Sky and others are brilliant, but Sky and some of the others are a tad darker and do ask for a commitment from the listener. This album is user friendly and very accessible. Many classic songs here and it does harken you back to the Southern California thing of an earlier time. Of Browne's great realeases, I am partial to this one the most.
For Everyman .......2007-02-11
A must have collection of Browne's music. The first three JB albums are by
far his best.Saturate,Everyman and Late for the Sky are classic albums.
These albums never get old ,they just get better everytime you listen.

"Hey mister, that's me up on the jukebox," Linda Ronstadt sings on her 1975 album Prisoner in Disguise, and it was no idle boast. The album yielded two of her finest singles, thanks to the retooled Motown classics "Heat Wave" and "Tracks of My Tears." The album's support material is just as strong, ranging from a banjo-strumming version of Neil Young's "Love Is a Rose" to a plaintive pop reading of Jimmy Cliff's reggae classic "Many Rivers to Cross." There's also a simple but lovely cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" that predates Whitney Houston's glass-shattering take on it (for the movie The Bodyguard) by more than a decade and a half. One thing about Ronstadt and producer-manager Peter Asher: they knew good material when they heard it and almost always turned it into something truly special. --Daniel Durchholz
Customer Reviews:
The sweetest gift.......2006-11-05
I bought this CD for the duet with Emmie Lou Harris of The Sweetest Gift and they do a very good job.
Great, Varied CD.......2006-08-23
I've always enjoyed Linda's music (I grew up listening to it), but this is my first studio CD purchase of hers. I really enjoy it alot; lots of different styles. "You Tell me that I'm Falling Down" is wonderful, and I think this is the only place to get it.
As for the sound, even though the packaging reads AAD, the disc itself has the HDCD seal; the sound is loud and full with no hiss. Sometimes I think they don't redo the packaging to save money, which can be confusing to those waiting for the remastered version. I've discovered on older titles it's best to buy new, so you are guaranteed the most up to date pressing.
Well, enjoy. I'm glad that Linda is still recording and stepping into new genres.
Prisoner in Disguise.......2006-02-22
This was the first Linda Ronstadt album I ever heard back in late 1970. I had never quite heard anything so pure and wondrous as this voice and to this day wonder if I will ever hear any one sing like her again. Perhaps Trisha Yearwood is a close second these days.
This album contains such classic tracks as Love is a Rose, Prisoner in Disguise and Silverblue. The arrangements are fabulous. There are many different styles tackled but the album has a wonderful flow.
It is so exciting to be able to have this album on CD as my old vinyl was well and truly worn out. Even today this album stands up - my 18 year old son commented 'wow who's that singing!'. He was hearing the voice of an angel that can still move people 30 years on! Thankyou Amazon for bringing this CD to my attention.
The Sweetest Gift with Emmylou Harris.......2004-04-07
Linda's version of Neil Young's "Love Is A Rose" was the reason I bought this album in the mid 70's. But it's the duet with Emmylou Haris on "The Sweetest Gift" that is the real highlight of the album. Music just doesn't get much better than this, reason enough to buy this album.
The sequence of songs, "The Sweetest Gift", "You Tell Me That I'm Falling Down" and "I Will Always Love You" has to be some of the best song sequencing ever done on an album, and ironically they are all related: Linda and Emmylou on "The Sweetest Gift" are good friends and frequent singing buddies. Both are good friends with Anna McGarrigle who wrote "You Tell Me That I'm Falling Down" and then Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" who of course is the other third of the famous Trio.
I give the album 3 stars because there are a few songs I don't care for, but it is among the best of Linda's pop albums. Once again, and I can't stress this enough, but the duet with Emmylou is worth getting this album.
I miss this voice on the radio.......2004-04-01
After watching yet another installment of American Idol I happened to revisit this great album and realized that none of the contestants are within a solar system of Linda's voice. When an artist has had as many hits and accolades as she has in her career it's easy to forget what an incredible stylist she was. And this album shows it all. She can go from haunting on the title cut, to heartbreaking on "Hey Mister," to spiritual on "Many Rivers," and to from-the-gut power on the end of "Heat Wave" effortlessly. It's hard to name another female vocalist as versatile as Ms. Ronstadt.

Album Description
Digitally remastered reissue of this long-lost Psychedelic album from 1968 by this duo featuring Leon Russell. Poised between his past as a top Wrecking Crew session man (Phil Spector, The Byrds, Sonny And Cher) and assistant to Liberty A&R head Snuff Garret, and his future as a '70s Rock superstar, Russell teamed up with his Texas Psych buddy Marc Benno to work with Gene Clark, Harpers Bizarre and Gary Lewis in their new studio. In between sessions, they created this unusual and breathtaking album. Here once more is this amazing lost gem, intensified in Rev-Ola style, and ready to work it's magic! A great lost nugget by one of the major Rock superstars! 11 tracks. Rev-Ola. 2007.

Finally!.......2007-06-05
Folks, if you like Leon Russell/ASYLUM CHOIR/Marc Benno,
this is a real gem! The music is GREAT. I'm so glad they
finally released this entire album on it's own!
Some of the tracks were used as BONUS TRACKS for
ASYLUM CHOIR II but they didn't include some of the
better tracks. Now that it's all complete in one
package, it's wonderful!
"Look in...." has a completely different feel than
AQII but the musicianship, arrangements, and production
are all top notch too! A must have!

Emmylou Harris once said of her four-shows-a-night salad days that she refused to sing anything on the hit parade, opting only for "bizarre, left-field songs" that "made it hard to make a living." Decades later, Harris still spends a lot of time in left field, and it's those offbeat, haunting gems--more than the classics here from Leonard Cohen or Jackson Browne--that make Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions, her duet album with Linda Ronstadt, so memorable. That, and her exquisitely pained soprano--reminiscent of "cracked crystal," as Linda puts it--nestled up against Ronstadt's thicker, corduroy harmonies. With arrangements that meet somewhere between Harris's Wrecking Ball and Ronstadt's Hasten Down the Wind, the two explore a mood of morose dreaminess, but profound beauty. Ghosts gather here, to the sounds of rattling bones--in songs of abandoned love, of musical giants now gone silent, and of World War I soldiers, who parade from the arms of prostitutes to the arms of death. Left field, dotted with the wreckage of heartache and regret, never sounded better. --Alanna Nash

Soothing tunes for your soul........2006-09-07
The music on this CD is so beautiful, so soothing, and so relaxing that it's hard for me to describe with mere words. You will have to hear it for yourself. I will tell you this- I don't care what life dished-out to bring you down during the day, if you play this CD when you get home it will free your mind. I call it "Western Wall" therapy. Linda & Emmylou, I can't thank you enough.
Emmylou & Linda a perfect Duo........2006-08-31
Emmylou and Linda are a perfect duo on this CD. The vocal backing of Kate and Anna McGarrigle makes it even extra interesting. The most catching title on this CD,I think, is "Valerie".
About a number of songs where Emmy does the lead vocal, one can hear that her stile is building up towards her later CD "Red Dirt Girl".
Once you love Emmy's and Linda's music, no doubt you should have this CD in your collection.
A folk-rock masterpiece.......2005-04-16
This 1999 collaboration between Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt is more folk rock than country in its unique atmospheric sound. It opens with Loving The Highwayman, where the two share lead and harmony vocals. Written by Emmylou, Raise The Dead has her on lead, harmony and electric guitar on a moving tribute to Hank Williams and Bill Monroe.
They lovingly interpret Rosanne Cash's Western Wall, whilst 1917 is a slow melancholy ballad with some lines sung in Latin. The tempo picks up a bit on He Was Mine, a gorgeous display of interweaving voices, and on Sweet Spot, which is a type of brooding rock ballad. For me, the highlight of the album is definitely this evocative cover of Sisters Of Mercy. The simple arrangement does not stray too far from Cohen's original, but the harmonies are exquisite as are the backing vocals by Canadian folk legends Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
The next track, Falling Down is in the big rock ballad mould and is followed by the lilting Valerie, a gripping song of the road. Another highlight of the album is the Sinead O'Connor song This Is To Mother You that gets a fragile and tender treatment. Emmylou's composition, the mostly acoustic All I Left Behind, is very poetic and moving. The album concludes with Bruce Springsteen's Across The Border, a beautiful song of transcendence and hope.
Western Wall is a masterpiece in its execution, but requires some getting used to for devoted fans of Emmylou. Unlike all of her work, from Pieces Of The Sky to Stumble Into Grace, this album entirely lacks Emmylou's characteristic soulful expression. I award it four stars only in comparison to the best of Harris' work; as a folk rock album, it certainly belongs in the five star league next to the work of artists like Richard and Linda Thompson, the McGarrigles and Lucinda Williams.
WOW! This album is a stunner..........2004-12-21
Whenever you see reviews of an album that are as polarized as the reviews are for this one, check it out!! Those listeners expecting Ronstadt and Harris to stay in the same musical box as their previous "Trio" releases will be quite surprised. This music cannot be easily categorized. But it will enter your consciousness and you will find yourself thinking about it long after you've listened to it, and wanting to hear it again. For those who haven't heard it yet, give it a chance. For those who have heard it and dismissed it, listen to it again. For those who have heard it and love it, listen to it again.
A High Point in 2 Careers.......2004-11-10
This CD marks a high point in the brilliant careers of both Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, two of the finest singers of their generation. These exquisitely selected and performed songs show off both their voices and their taste.
Two particular highlights: Sinead O'Connor's "This Is To Mother You," and Patti Scialfa's "Valerie." But every cut is fine.
