So much unnecessary fuss was made over Enigma's juxtaposition of the sexual and sacred. After all, Prince had been doing it for years, and his take on it was far more interesting--and a lot more daring. But Enigma's MCMXC A.D. did manage to work a lot of people into a lather, both on the dance floor and behind the pulpit. Their inclusion of chanting monks in "Sadeness," over wooshy ambient noises and a slower hip-hop-appropriated beat was a sensation. "Callas Went Away" promised more than it could deliver, although "Mea Culpa" stands as one of the few shining moments on the CD. The idea of mixing new age aural wallpaper with beats that you can do a slow grind to is actually rather intriguing. Spicing it up with controversial religious chants isn't a bad idea either. But there's got to be something personal to it. After the initial novelty wears off, there's nothing to MCMXC A.D. other than bland, cold, impersonal repetition. Now, that might be what most people are used to, but what's so sexy about it? --Steve Gdula

Only Enigma's music deserve..........2007-05-18
....wait more than 1 1/2 months to receive it.
I live in a small city, is not easy to find this kind of music... and if you have luck, 30 usd or more for each CD.
Enigma is the beginning of the NO end for New age's music.
Thank you amazon.
One of a kind.......2007-04-21
It is rare that an album like this comes along. I remember in the early nineties, and the first single came out..it was such a different sound, unique. I literally stopped what I was doing and listened intently, anxious to hear who the artist was. Upon hearing the whole album in it's entirety, I knew this was a special album. Some artists release an album, and you like a single or two. With this album, it's a complete product from end to end, much like Dark Side Of The Moon- a full and complete album. So much to listen to and absorb. This album will transport you to a different place. The later Enigma albums are fine, but this first one will always hold that special place for me. Do yourself a favor and pick it up, I believe you will add it to your list of cherished, favorite cd's.
The remixes make this the best Enigma CD.......2007-04-10
I had the original version and it was my second favorite Enigma CD ("The Screen Behind the Mirror" being number one). But with the remixes, this vaults to the top. I cannot take it out of my CD player! I cannot explain how much I love this music; I love(d) rap, but it has gotten far too commercial and obnoxious for my taste, while pop/rock/soul has done nothing for me lately either. This music seems made for me. I can listen to it no matter my mood. I've read reviews from people who were disappointed by some Enigma offerings; you're not going to see that here. This stuff is on the same level as early 80s Prince -- absolute genius, as far as I'm concerned.
had to replace scratched ones.......2007-03-15
good cd i had to replace the old ones because they are all scratched up
Sensual Romance, Lust Meets Spirit........2007-02-04
This is certainly a unique blending of genre's. Jazz, New Age mystical, & Medieval chanting are combined into something that feels new. The lyrics are chanted rather than sung, which works well since the music is the main focus. I found the use of Latin & French to be refreshing. This is enjoyable for driving or daydreaming, not at the same time of course. The listener is teleported back & forth to a time when they first heard this album. This is the ultimate synthesis of hormones, spirit, nature sounds, & mysticism. However, repetitive at times. I felt the 3 best tunes were "Principles Of Lust, Sadness, & Mea Culpa." All original & yet different in delivery & content. Give this several listens before you make up your mind. I'm sure you will find it interesting?

Following their success with 2005's George Is On, house duo Deep Dish (known individually as Sharam and Dubfire) set out to divide and conquer with individual mixes for UK label Global Underground. Sharam strikes first--and hard--with Dubai, a two-disc set that is likely to generate comparisons with GU's other epic releases such as Sasha's Ibiza (GU13). Disc one is the slow-burner here: Spider and Legaz's dub of "Look Around" funks things up with a vocoder-drenched synth line that could have been pulled off a Jeff Beck album before giving way to the druggy, cascading echoes of 16 Bit Lolitas' "Passing Lights." From the perspective of the second disc, the moody expanse of the first begins to look a lot like an elaborate launch sequence, as the infectious "Timewarp" merges into Cedric Gervais's "Spirit in My Life," which sends the whole business into orbit. Sharam has undoubtedly reached a new high here, with programming so organic it sometimes seems like the track list may have just dropped out of the sky. For those awaiting the next big Global Underground release, your time has come. --Brent Kallmer

Sharam killing it in Dubai.......2007-06-15
ok so yes gu kills it and we all know deep dish are gods in ther own right but Sharam sets it off on these disks
steady groves seamless mixes another gu classic
A little slightly less than limited this year, but a still great mix!.......2007-01-25
I don't mean it has less production than other limited releases, I just meant it's a little short on bonus features in that long book. It's the same fold out book format as the previous two GU's and it's also filled with location photography like the the others. The one thing the other two had were interviews and bios about some of the residents of Miami and Shanghai. They weren't the most interesting of features, but at least it was more than just the annoying Dom Phillips sleeve notes. It's just the notes and the photos. If GU hasn't used a better writer than Dom after 29 releases, I don't think we'll ever get that benefit.
Now, onto the mixes:
After two stunning GU's in '05 from Danny Howells and Nick Warren, we had to wait until late 2006 to get the only release of the year from their prolific GU series, #29 by half of the Deep Dish duo, Sharam. It's less progressive than Warren's and more upbeat than Howells, so it's more like a danceable Miami. If you liked Miami, but wanted some faster paced house, this is it.
There are a lot of vocals on both discs, but they are all good tracks, especially the one to open disc 1, a stunning remix by Nicka & Asle of the Julie Dennis voiced Sugar (Sweet Thing). It's a killer track to start the mix, although I wasn't keen on the choice to start disc 2, an old school house tune that just didn't cut it for me. Aside from that opening track on disc 2, and where he lets the Deep Dish remix of Paul Van Dyk's The Other Side play a little too long on disc 1, I thought both discs were great. I liked disc 2 slightly better, only because of the incredible line-up of tracks making up the latter portion of the mix (tracks 8-14).
You've got great vocals, chunky house tunes, thumping dance floor beats, some guitars and cellos thrown in for good measure, all adding up to a fine release for the GU series. I actually liked Dubfire's Toronto Afterclub mix a tad better than Sharam's, but I think he is going to have his work cut out for him when he tries to top this with his own solo GU mix due out this year. Also due out in February is Nick Warren's GU30, and Adam Freeland is set to do GU32, after Dubfire's 31. I don't know if all 3 will be released in 2007, but at least two should be, which is at least one more than '06!
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!!!!!!.......2006-12-26
One of the best sets I've ever heard... very progressive, very modern, very deep dish...
Excellent !.......2006-12-02
This is a fantastic collection of tunes! Energetic yet smooth, never irritating. Buy it before your cross-country drive & you won't be disappointed.
Dubai meets Toronto - BUY IT.......2006-11-30
It is definitely one of the best electronic music CDs in the last few years. If you liked the Global Undergroud: Toronto masterpiece, you love this one too! Great mixing, top selection and it flows perfectly from the beginning to the end. Sharam is no doubt one of the best DJ's around. I am thankful he's coming back to Brazilian carnival next year! Deep Dish rules.

Working with Blur on their Think Tank album clearly made an impact on Norman Cook. Palookaville, his fourth outing as cartoon dance hero Fatboy Slim, has a distinctly beatnik theme running through it. It also relies more on real instruments and proper songs, rather than Cook's laptop and fun floor fillers, swapping instant thrills for something longer lasting. That said it's unmistakably a Fatboy Slim record, and a pretty phenomenal one at that.
The trademark beach party anthems are still there. The Latino shake of "Wonderful Night," "El Bebe Masoquista"'s electro-funk, and single "Slash Dot Dash" with its snarling surf guitar all prove that there's life in Bigbeat yet. But it's the mellower tracks that stand-up to constant rewinds. "North West Three," a dreamy twilight tune dedicated to wife Zoe Ball, is a gorgeously romantic swayer and plinky hobo ditty "Put It Back Together" delivers a ramshackle shot of optimism in the Think Tank style, complete with a drowsy Damon Albarn. Meanwhile, the moody sub-bass rumble of "Long Way From Home" and road movie rocker "Push and Shove" find the middle ground and demonstrate that Cook's imagination is as active as ever.
All the usual cut'n'paste musical bric-a-brac's there. All the wackiness and cool grooves remain. It's just that this time they sound just as good in the living room as they do on the dance-floor. --Dan Gennoe

heard it at a pizzaria and had to go buy it...
such happy music and you cant help getting up and dancing to it.
Thanks for the fast service.
Welcome home, Slim.......2005-07-26
Like a lot of people (critics AND fans alike), I didn't like Fatboy Slim's third studio album Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars except for, of course, "Weapon of Choice". But I decided to give him another chance when I discovered that Palookaville was out.
Now, as other reviewers have been mentioning, this album has more of a hip-hop-flavored feel, which may be a little overpowering if not taken lightly. Some fans don't seem to like that, but I still think there are some nice tracks on here. "Song For Chesh" is a nice instrumental, and "Long Way From Home" contains some pretty unique sounds. And one of my favorites is a song that other people don't seem to like, "Slash Dot Dash".
Other good songs are "Mi Bebé Masoquista" and my personal favorite, the old-school-soul-sounding "Put It Back Together". And Bootsy Collins shows up once again for a nice cover of Steve Miller Band's "The Joker". Another good song is "Wonderful Night", which features help from a singer/rapper named Lateef. But sometimes his rhymes can get a little corny, like in the otherwise outstanding "The Journey" (it's not cool to still be saying "I'm so `bout it, `bout it", man).
My only other real concern is that "Jin Go Lo Ba" claims to be a sample, when really Fatboy lifted the whole song. Basically, Palookaville will still make you dance, but it might not necessarily make you want to jump up and dance; thus, it isn't quite as memorable as his landmark album You've Come a Long Way, Baby. But it's still quality music, so you really shouldn't object to picking it up.
Anthony Rupert
One really cool party album........2005-07-19
Yesterday I first heard the whole Palookaville album. I was on a party and someone put it in a cd player and I think it stayed there the whole night. It really created a perfect party mood. I didn't know this album could be so good. I knew The Joker before and I thought it was one really nice song, but I never took the time to listen to the whole album. Now I know what I've been missing out. Although I usually don't like electronics (well, there are some exceptions) I totally loved this album. My favourite songs are The Joker, Wonderful Night and the best song on this album Don't Let The Man. Now, I just can't stop listening to this song. It is so good, that I just can't get enough of it.
So, this album is definitely a must have.
Own it!.......2005-03-03
I am a man of few words so here goes - this was one of the best albums of 2004! Without a doubt, FatBoy's best. There are really catchy tunes, great dance grooves, sing-a-longs and a sense of humor which is hard to find these days. Worth listening to from start to finish. Trust me - television will be sampling this one for years! I've already heard bits of this CD in the background of a couple of shows this week. Worth a listen.
This Rocks.......2005-02-13
I bought this album on a lark because I liked his "You've Come a Long Way Baby" and this blows that out of the water. If you want something that will make you wiggle uncontrollably in your seat, buy this one.

Changed me.......2005-06-23
I always lisend to play music or as my neighbor always said music without words which is classical music. I listend to Shakira and thought "What a terrible CD" because my sisters favorite was my least favorite but my mom also liked it so i listend to other songs and found one that sounded familiar "Whenever, Whearever" so i listend to the others and they grew on me so now i'm one of the biggest Shakira fans
Good CD... Nothing extraordinary but still good..........2004-04-21
To all of you who just knew Shakira after this album, let me tell you something... you haven't heard nothing at all yet.
Go get a few lessons of spanish and listen her first album (Pies Descalzos)... THAT'S MUSICAL POETRY... Best latin songwriter so far and very good performer.
And this isn't the best of her.......2004-03-13
Well... I know tha now, everybody loves Shakira... and yes, this is an amazing album...
I really love Underneath your clothes and Que me quedes tu. Didn't love english version of Ojos Asi.
If you like it, you SHOULD have Donde estan los ladrones, THAT IS HER BEST ALBUM... Inevitable is probably her best song... so, learn spanish and welcome to latin world.
Oh... also she is SO nice... i can wait for the Tour of the Moongose DVD... and includes MEXICO City!!!! yay (i went to that concert)
One Killer Album!.......2004-01-26
This is by far my favorite Shaki CD that I own. And it comes with 3 new remixes and MTV's Making the Video of Objection Tango and a live performance. All of the songs are great English or Spanish. You'll love this album.
Also check out Shakira's "Pies Descalzos" "Donde Estan Los Ladrones" "The Remixes" "Grandes Exitos" "Coleccion de Oro" and "MTV Unplugged" These albums are awesome too.
I need a Berlitz course.......2004-01-20
This is a great album. Big Fun, as they say. Interestingly, many of the best songs are sung in Spanish, which I do not know. Track 8 is infectious, and I don't understand a darn word of it. I agree with the reviewer from SF who comments that it is sort of a crime that they want Shakira to sing in English. She is an excellent songstress in Spanish. It certainly looks to me like the CD/DVD package is worth the extra dollar. Objection is a great tune, thoughtful and expressive.

Customer Reviews:
This one is really nice treat from Madonna!.......2006-12-17
I really like what Madonna have done to this one even though only 10 tracks. American Pie is missing here. This one only for US market but I am really lucky to get this one from eil.com and I have paid in very high price for that. I don't care! As long as Madonna release something like this again,I am definitly go for it.
It's amazing what this girl can do, she cannot stop herself.......2005-02-10
Don't ever tell her to stop. This excellent album includes the excellent singles to Music (#1 UK, #1 US, #1 OZ), Don't Tell Me (#4 UK, #4 US, #7 OZ) and What It Feels Like For A Girl (#7 UK, #23 US, #6 OZ). Some editions like the UK original album may include American Pie. The UK original album DOES include American Pie (#1 UK, #29 US, #1 OZ). The single for American Pie was only available outside of the US so it had to be charted due to it's airplay, also like Beautiful Stranger which charted at #19 in the US and #2 in the UK. The album includes 7 or 8 (depending on weather American Pie is on your CD) other excellent songs for you to enjoy.
This special limited edition is THE BEST Madonna collectable there is - many are saying it is one of the best or finest but I think it is HER BEST (notice the word best is different to one of the best) limited edition so far! Ray Of Light limited edition won an award for the best packaging but I think this should've won atleast 10! It is presented in a hard style chip book which is totally different to the original artworking! It has a music logo stamped on the front which is simply stunning! It is avaiable in 4 colours -- collect them all! (Rose Pink, Blue/Grey/Olive, Cream/Beige and BLACK -- the best one!) The Black is also the rarest but still I managed to find it. I was in France when I got these CDS. I was in a record store and they had LOADS of Music album items!
Overall Score - 10/10.
Go crazy for this item! I own all 4 colours plus 2 other editions - Chinese and Mexico editions! The limited edition (packaging) ones are the best. My Rose Pink and Cream/Beige editions have 10 tracks without American Pie (regular US album). My Black (did I mention this is the BEST ONE!?) and Blue/Grey/Olive have 11 tracks with American Pie! The Chinese album is exactly the same tracklisting as the UK album (11 tracks with American Pie) but includes a
yellow horseshoe disc instead of the brown one! It is also manufactured in China as the CD clearly states! The mexican CD includes 10 tracks without American Pie but with 2 bonus remixes of What It Feels Like For A Girl! -- The infamous Above & Beyond radio edit plus Spanish Version. I bought all 6 on the same day in the same shop -- me family and the assistants thought I was crazy! Great limited edition(s)!
One of the best madonna collectables.......2004-06-25
I usually don't buy these kinds of items but I went crazy on this one. The design for this special edition is marvelous. I own the four colors, including three copies of the black (one with bonus track american pie). My personal favorites are the pink and the black. You will receive the pink (or maybe the grey) from amazon. The black is especially rare and can be found either on the Amazon marketplace (ask the seller first because very few have the black or the beige), or on Ebay.
Inside, a 24-page booklet with more pictures from the Music photo session, though the full lyrics are NOT included, only little parts of "Music" as in the regular edition booklet.
There is a bonus track on the euro edition of this cd (american pie), but I think the one offered here is the u.s. version (same tracklist as the regular cd).
Madonna - Great Idea For Packaging!!!.......2004-02-28
It was brilliant of Madonna to make 4 colors for the limited edition 'Music' album. Rose, being the least limited - and Black, being the most limited.
If you are lucky enough to own the Black - it has over doubled in value since you purchased it - assuming you have kept it in good condition.
'Music' is one of those Madonna albums that even a non-Madonna fan will buy. It's great - and has some awesome singles that reflect that - 'Music' and 'Don't Tell Me' are the best...
GREAT ITEM!.......2002-01-17
This item is so beautifully packaged (much better than the Ray Of Light or GHV2 Limited Editions). I have the pink and blue editions, and the pink one is better (it's the one you'll most likely receive if you order it). It's well worth your money and you better act quick because they are becoming excessively rare! I bought the pink one at Amazon.com, but the Blue one cost me a LOT more from an independent vendor! This item is already a collector's item and I'm SHOCKED that they are still available!!

Chillout with an Eastern Twist.......2002-07-21
Given the proliferation of chillout albums, it can be hard to distinguish one from the other. The venerable dance label Ministry of Sound has already branched out into the chillout arena, but on "Karma Collection," they've taken the genre to another level by releasing an album of downtempo gems and Eastern-influenced tracks. The end result is one seamless groove that contains some of the most traffic-stoppingly beautiful selections I have heard. The usual guests on chillout albums appear (Thievery Corporation, Moby, Stereo MC's), but the real standouts are selections from Clannad, Susheela Raman, Fug, and the ever-etheral touches of Dead Can Dance. The entire collection clocks in at 2.5 hours, and not once did I hit the "skip" button on my CD player. This is ideal music for dinner, working at your computer, or a Sunday afternoon brunch. As with all imports, the price on this one is steep. But the reality is this: if you want quality, you're gonna have to pay. Of course, you can take the cheap route and get the second-rate domestic compilations, but you're only cheating yourself. "Karma Collection" is required listening for all chillout gurus and beginners alike. Although I nearly cracked my wallet to get this, it's worth every dime.
Licensing muscle + worldbeat + diverse tracks.......2002-07-08
Not one to miss a trend, Ministry of Sound has astutely thrown their hat into the worldbeat dance ring, the hallmark sound for dozens of swanky French bars and massage therapists. MoS dubs it spiritually enlightening chillout, a succinct description. And while one could just say their A&R exec sent out a memo to round up three dozen or so popular ethnic-themed tracks for mass consumption...
The Karma Collection works for the simple reason that the Ministry knows their audience is the dance massive, and that audience wants an understandable, accessible entry into the ethnic sound. Much of these tunes are unabashedly floor friendly with a "worldly" instrument thrown in, a test of how much sitar you can sit through. Jakata's "So Lonely" is straight up charming psychedelic pop, dittos "Dave Pike's "Mathar." The lilting cabaret of Susheela Raman's "Trust In Me" beguiles, while Badmarsh & Shri's dreamy sunset ode "Sajanna" and Blue States's harp-filled folktronic remix of "Papua New Guinea" finally receives due recognition. This doesn't even include other hits by Nitin Sawhney, Dusted, and Zero 7.
Disc 2's where they crank the global dial, world chill far removed from the dance realm. There's mandatory Talvin Singh with a flute & breaks "Light," some floating symphonies courtesy of Ghostland and Craig Armstrong (the breathtaking "Weather Storm"), and for good measure some Celtic gospel courtesy via Clannad's 1985 track "Caislean Oir."
In fact, The Karma Collection has very few bumps in the road, barring the odd chanting ditty ("Mustt Mustt") or the spiritual sludge of Deepak Chopra's duff "Desire." Each disc has a completely different audience in mind, but the undeniable licensing muscle of Ministry of Sound insure at least one of these sets will connect with the listener.
Great South Asia-inspired club/lounge music.......2002-03-20
I am so glad to have found this ... for the first CD. In the beginning, there are a couple of good ragas on top of a rhythm section. Other selections are more electronica with the South Asian instruments stuck in for flavor. There are also various Western-style jazz, rock and alternative selections with Middle-Eastern & South Asian samples and melodies. Good variety but it's important to note that it gets less and less South Asian and more California as it goes on. The second CD is mainly California new-agey mood music that would be decent background music, but is otherwise boring.
Never Mind The Buddahs - this is the real deal.......2002-02-23
With the plethora of "Buddha Bar" lounge / supper club albums in the racks at silly import prices; it was only a matter of time until club compilation giants Ministry Of Sound waded in for a piece of the action. Happily, on this occasion, bigger definitely means better. This is by far the best album of it's kind in the marketplace, especially if you (like I) have found the Claude Challe albums to be all style and no content.
'Karma Collection' kicks off (predictably) with Jakatta's current cover hit of 'Ever So Lonely', and then hits you with a lovely sequence of Dave Pike's classic 'Mathar' (currently on the Jamie Oliver ad), Nitin Sawhney's sublime 'Sunset' and into Stereo MC's, Thievery Corporation and Massive Attack's mix of 'Mustt Mustt'. Special spotter points for including the snake song from 'The Jungle Book' sung by Susheela Raman, and for finding 90's Indie stars Ride's most cosmic moment in 'Rolling Thunder'. It then goes a bit 'sonic cathedral' with Marta Sebestyn, Moby and the Aled Jones On Ecstacy vibe of Dusted, before riding out with mellow masters Zero 7.
Disc 2 is a bit deeper, with the odd Celtic moment thrown in (Clannad repositioned as veteran chill out masters - whatever next?); and has some sweet simple pleasures with Grant Lee Phillips and Horace Andy on 1 Giant Leap's 'Racing Away' and Bjork's barely there ethereal presence on 'Harm Of Will'. All this comes in a lovely red strokey tactile box, with pretty gold embossed letters. Will definitely look good on that Heal's coffee table.
In conclusion, if you are a real fan of global beats, chances are you've probably got a lot of these tunes already, possibly on other comps. However, if you don't want to pay £30 for a French import; and you just want to relax to some sensual and seductive sounds from around our planet, or you are looking to turn on a friend to something which is definitely fresher and cooler than Another Bloody Chillout CD, shell out now amigos!

Besides Tom Rolands and Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers, few artists have the clout, chops, and DJ wherewithal to change the landscape of dance music. Still, it's not something the duo seems in a particular hurry to do. Since the release of the now-classic Exit Planet Dust, an intensely groove-able rap-stomp hodgepodge, and Dig Your Own Hole), their 1997 breakout record, big beat has been eating itself in a commercialized frat-boy frenzy. Yet the Brothers haven't found--or even really tried to find--that Something Else to turn the masses on in a different, exciting direction. True, their last full-length, Surrender, found them incorporating a house-ier feel, mixing a retro aesthetic with four-on-the-floor beats, but it was really the same old batch of clever samples and rolling thumps. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing; most of us have happily run in place right along with them. Come With Us also finds them pulling all the usual tricks; there's an irresistible dance-floor anthem or two ("Star Guitar," "Denmark"), swooping keyboard tricks ("Come With Us"), guest vocalists (Beth Orton, Richard Ashcroft), and the amazing fluidity that allows a moody song like Orton's "The State We're In" to sound perfectly, logically in its place. While it sounds like they're coasting, their refined, sugary formula is so sweet, it's hard to complain. --Matthew Cooke

Good music, bad buy.......2002-02-10
I too got suckered into the ltd edition packaging. I figured with the average selling price of 5-8 dollars more for the ltd edition packaging I was getting some bonus tracks or a bonus CD. Nope. .... I agree with everyone else..get the jewel case edition, it'd hold up better if you take it around places, it wont bend unlike the cardboard and the CD wont scratch up as easily as it will rubbing against that cardboard sleeve that the ltd edt packaging has. Is it ME or would this paper sleeve cost less to make than the jewel case?
Guess they just knew people who always buy the limited release would get suckered into buying it. Guess they taught me one thing....never again will I buy anything limitted edition from the Chem. Bros....they can block rock MY beat...
excellent.......2002-02-07
I have to admit that this album wasnt quite what I expected. It is a lot dancier than previous albums (yes, even more so than Surrender)but rest assured Chemz fans, it is pulled off with a technical fervor that only Tom and Ed could do. First things first, the entire album is excellent, there is no song that any fan will skip (I can attest to this because it has been in my cd player for the past 7 days on loop). I was never a HUGE fan of the first single "It began in Afrika" mainly because the vocal cut was repeated to many times. The Chemz, as always, fixed that little problem and now the song kicks... I really dont understand what everybody is whining about saying that the album doesnt seem very congealed because it all flows very well. I think everybody is just looking at the fact that DYOH won a grammy so therefore it must be the best thing they've ever done. I may sound blasphemous here but I put DYOH as my least favorite album, granted it had some amazing tracks and was still vere, very good, but I think that it is the least congealed of their albums. Come on people make reviews based on actually LISTENING to the albums, not what everybody else says! I say that Come With Us is superb, albeit a slight change for the Chemz, but overall worth every penny just like very album they've ever produced. Any buyer will be extrmely pleased.
Come with the normal release.......2002-02-06
Let me explain that rating. 5 stars for the music, 1 star for the "Limited Edition Package."
I've been a big fan of the Chemical Bros ever since Dig Your Own Hole, and I've been waiting for this album for awhile. "Come With Us" starts the album off with a jolt. The music, vocals, and general vibe resemble The Crystal Method's "Trip Like I Do." The rest of the album, refreshingly devoid of the overwrought guest vocals that plagued "Surrender," is a great romp, even though it does leave one wondering "is that it?" I'm still waiting for one of their albums to end on a high note, like "The Private Psychadelic Reel."
The "Limited Edition Package" is just that. the package. there's nothing here you won't get from the normal CD, except that you trade the plastic jewel case for a Pearl Jam-esque cardboard fold-out. Save your money and buy the regular CD. i'm still miffed that they'd do that to us.
another great album with a horrible gimmick.......2002-02-05
wow. putting behind their experimental side of 'surrender', tom and ed return with a powerhouse of a release. three tracks are already hits with the various crowds out there: it began in afrika, galaxy bounce, and star guitar. the rest of the tracks are a flurry of genres, from electrofunk to some idm-like beats to some dub/ambient. with guest appearances from beth orton and richard ashcroft, both tracks of which were solid, the album rounds out nicely. regretably, the tease of the idea of mixing all the song together between it began in afrika and galaxy bounce leave me with a wish to have seen them do it. and while it is a solid album, it is nothing extraordinarily new from the chems, just more of what one would expect. they also lose points for allowing astralwerks to release a 'limited edition' version of the cd.
Good, though quite a departure from their original sound.......2002-02-02
Those who buy the Chemical Bros new album will probably be in for a surprise, for the sound is how you say...experimental sometimes leftfield. For example, the most prominent songs on the cd, It began in Afrika and Star Guitar use some original samples and instruments not quite heard before. My favorites Star Guitar, and It began in Afrika is a little too trippy for me. The best part is probably the first half, the songs have usual Chemical Bros influence of Trip Hop, Brit rock, and the obligatory slow songs as seen in their previous albums. The second half becomes quite strange turn. Acid rhythms and '60s-ish sounds. It's an interesting ride, though I am a little disappointed, after waiting so long for their new album, i was hoping for more than 10 songs. I bought the limited edition version, which i don't seem to get what's so special other than it's a foldout as opposed to a case. Some Chemical Bros might like it, some may not, but the Chemical Bros hope the former, which must be why
they named the album "Come With Us"

THE NEXT TEN YEARS!.......2005-11-12
while GHV2 is not comparable to Immaculate Collection (and you know why!), this second greatest hits of the one and only madonna is a testament to her great musicality as when she reigned in the 80's as queen of pop and braving the obstacles she encountered in the 90's. very few artists could rack up the impressive number of singles she has released. in the 90's, things have changed. her musical direction became vast and more creative, sacrificing "dough" to acheive her unlimited, boundless imagination.
GHV2 consisted of tracks from different albums, representing different artistic levels and undertakings: erotica, bedtime stories, evita, ray of light, music, plus singles from soundtracks and compilations.
all said, GHV2 represents the more mature, more artistic and more creative part of madonna. never afraid to take risks, she is willing to sacrifice whatever earnings in pursuit of elevating pop to the higher level.
sure, Immaculate Concpetion displayed what she could do with great pop songs, but ultimately, GHV2 displayed that she could do more!
long live the queen!
Wow.......2005-08-01
This packiage is needed! Because the CD is such a good one it deserves this package!
This Music makes the people come together .......2005-04-06
Fifteen songs... A decade. There were a few songs from this album that Madonna had missed out, such as: "American Pie" and "Nothing Really Matters" etc... Please note that songs like "Rain", "I'll Remember" and "You'll See" can be found on the ballad compilation "Something To Remember". Madonna's first greatest hits compilation "The Immaculate Collection" is also available and includes such hits as "Crazy For You", "Lucky Star", "Vogue" and "Holiday" plus more. These compilations are also worth buying and getting if you are a real, die-hard Madonna fan.
Well... I feel like getting up out of my chair and dancing to some Madonna all of the time, so this Greatest Hits collection was no exception to pass up on! It does exactly what it says on the front sticker: (plays) the best songs of a decade. So if you really are a Madonna fan (...) and love her last songs of a decade, go out and buy this! Some of the songs are edited, like on her first greatest hits compilation, but that doesn't effect the or any qualities of this disc. "Music Makes The People Come Together" -- let's hope for a box set or a third Greatest Hits collection from Madonna. This collection includes no songs from the warner bros./maverick album "American Life".

Madonna is one of the few music acts to have had this much success on the Charts for this long. (22 year) She also had hits from her later album "American Life" and a lot of previous hits. Pick up this to get more of Madonna. Hits taken from the albums "Erotica", "Bedtime Stories", "Ray Of Light" and "Music". "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from the music motion picture "Evita". "Beautiful Stranger" from the music motion picture "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me". Please note that the song "Human Nature" is edited. It takes away the line: "I'm not your bitch, don't hang your s**t on me" and replaces it with "I'm not sorry, it's Human Nature".
Overall Score: 150/150
This is one of the few albums I have where I have or will give every song 10/10. Great album! Also buy previous albums and later effort "American Life". This particular limited edition is for the die-hard Madonna fan or collector. It features exclusive limited packaging which is lovely to touch -- I love the feel of it! It includes extra pages and photos plus the CD is attached to the book which I thought was a good idea. (There is a slip case at the end of the book which you will find the CD in.) The CD has a different artwork -- A beautiful picture disc of Madonna. Buy it!
this album rocks JUST THE WAY IT IS.......2004-10-23
In terms of compilation albums, this is the one that's buzzing in my CD player more than other ones (even the Immaculate Collection!). And I stand by the statement that this album is perfectly sublime JUST THE WAY IT IS. To me, each track is in itself a definitive Madonna masterpiece WITHOUT QUESTION. I think the best way to truly express how great this compilation really is is to write something about each track . . .
DEEPER AND DEEPER
I have to dance every SINGLE time I hear this song! This song NEEDED to be included on GHV2.
EROTICA
my personal favorite- a haunting expression of some of the darkest and most primal of sexual fantasies (S&M, for example). anyone who is familiar with this song and the album can appreciate the name i put on this review, then. the modern sounding hiphop beat and house-inspired, aloof background music make this a musical experience TRULY like no other. again, GHV2 did justice.
HUMAN NATURE
ultimately not a big hit on the charts, but a message that got everyone's attention- "i do what i do and if you don't like it, i won't stop, i could care less what you think." GHV2 met this one halfway by including it but as a dumbed down version with no profanity
SECRET
Madonna's hippest R&B tune ever. i think that when she released this along with the album Bedtime stories back in '94, she effectively communicated that she could still get down with the getdown.
DON'T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA
Who doesn't know this song, or at least the fact that Madonna sings it? If this song had not made it into the collection, then that would have been the worst-case scenario!
BEDTIME STORY
i love this song, it is just so mindblowing and ethereal with its trance-house themed sound.
THE POWER OF GOODBYE
A beautiful ballad from the Ray of Light album. 'Nuff said.
BEAUTIFUL STRANGER
Madonna closed the door on the nineties with this unusually rich-sounding dance track from the second Austin Powers movie. An excellent note to end the nineties on.
FROZEN
The most beautiful ballad on the Ray of Light album and one of her best by far.
TAKE A BOW
Madonna's biggest hit ever, this also was a necessity for inclusion on GHV2. It's from Bedtime Stories, and it was written by Babyface, and he never goes wrong, as vividly proven in how beautiful this R&B song sounds.
RAY OF LIGHT
I love the video for this song, which made me love the song itself even more. I love how it was Madonna's return to the pop world, back in top form again!
DON'T TELL ME
A kickin' track from 2000's Music album which is characterized with unbeatable pop lyrics and a catchy hiphop sounding backbeat (check out this video too, which features M's turn as a dust covered cowgirl).
WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GIRL
Madonna's second best vocal work in a song (top billing goes to Don't Cry For me Argentina). It is a beautiful ballad from Music that goes against society's construct of the ideal female.
DROWNED WORLD/SUBSTITUTE FOR LOVE
I thought this one was some kind of slowed-down, rock-and-roll ballad, and then watching the video opened my eyes to what message Madonna was really sending about herself and the stress of celebrity. Not released in the United States, but still deserving of its GHV2 slot (you'll really think so if you watch the video).
MUSIC
Madonna did it AGAIN with this electronica-laden dance track extraordinaire. She opened a new decade, a new century, and a new millenium with a pulsating, high-energy dance single that was her first to go #1 in years. Yes, she does still got it.
Now you can see why these songs are most deserving of making up Madonna's second Greatest Hits compilation. Some may point out that such #1's as "I'll Remember" and "This Used to Be My Playground" are not up there and say they should have been put up there. But those two songs, while they did chart extremely well, are just not ones that automatically come to mind with 1990s and 21st century Madonna. And another thing: this album just rocks on the weight of the featured songs. Therefore there didn't need to be any new material featured on the album; people bought it so that they would be able to listen to classic Madonna whenever they wanted, not listen to new material.
Good Choice for the Maddy fan.......2003-07-16
As other reviewers have noted, it doesn't differ in musical content from the regular version, but does offer snazzier packaging: a hard cover encloses the booklet and disc, the booklet offers slightly different artwork (mostly more photographs)and the disc itself has different artwork. This is a good version for the dyed in the wool Madonna fan, and the collection of songs is really a must have in any form.

Good performance, pretty poor sound........2005-08-19
Wow, it's great to see AMAZON selling some of the rare Stan recordings (many originally available exclusively through other websites). These are often GREAT shows that deserve a much broader, appreciative audience.
This show, taken from Stan's MOSQUITOS TOUR of 1989, features a solid performance by Stan & band - a great selection of songs, some passionate performances ("Mission In Life" seems even more heartfelt here than it does in it's original form), and Stan is in rare form during his between-song blab.
HOWEVER---- do note that the sound-quality on this recording is.... lacking. While techincally a "stereo" recording, the overall effect is that of listening to an 8th-generation cassette of an AM-stereo recording. The highs are too high, the bass is muffled, the stereo-seperation is barely there. To top it off, the audience seem to be a bit louder than they should be for a direct-soundboard recording.
Even as a rabid Ridgway fan, I barely bust-out this CD, just based on the poor audio quality. I rate it a solid 3 stars based on performance alone, but do seriously consider some of the other live Ridgway shows before you invest in this one.
