Creative funk.......2007-02-06
I bought this album after seeing the band live and have listened to it repeatedly ever since. You won't get tired of this one; inspired, original material that doesn't sound like anyone else. The groove - the funk - is always in your face. The sax and keyboard solos are great, also. Funk for the jazz fan.
Modern Groove Syndicate breaks out in a big way. .......2004-07-20
I've been on the MGS bandwagon for a few years now, simply due to the raw power and complexity of their live show. I'm a big fan of jazz and funk, and I haven't seen a band that quite hits like they do. That said, their first, self titled CD was almost disappointing in that it didn't capture the energy the band typically exhibits.
Vessel, to contrast, is a high powered fusion of funk, jazz and soul. The disc opens with a body shaking bass groove on Exes and Hos, and doesn't let go. Longtime MGS favorites such as Code Brown, Bojungeles, Angel Rust and Mo' Time are captured here expertly. The rhythm section of Todd Herrington and Joel Denunzio drive this disc, keyboardist Daniel Clarke provides textures, and ex-Agents of Good Roots saxophonist JC Kuhl provides excellent melodic and solo ability. This album sums up MGS perfectly, and is my favorite release of this year so far.
If you're a fan of uptempo instrumental jazz and funk, pick up this record. It can't disappoint.

Amazing Band.......2003-03-26
Modern Groove Syndicate is flat out one of the tightest and most interesting bands around. If they got some gigs opening for bands like Soulive, MMW, or some of the other finer genre-bending bands, they could really break out big. Buy the album if you know what's good for you.
good stuff.......2003-03-24
this cd is good. so you should buy it or something.
Funky Jazz.......2003-03-08
Modern Groove Syndicate's CD is smooth power with a funky, rattling groove that gets in your bones and makes 'em jump. If this CD doesn't get you movin', better check your pulse. Great for adventurous listening.
just splended.......2003-02-21
I believe this guys to have the most incredable sound ever. The quialty of sound on this album is crazy good. These guys are incredable musicians, their sound on the cd and live is really full and thick and incredablly smooth. All the instruments fit together so beautifully and it creates the most amazing sound i have ever heard. The punches in their music are my favorite part, it gives me that funny feeling inside. I recommend this mad highly becuase it is just a incredable cd.
