Customer Reviews:
Which is Which? Huh? What Happened? Are there More?.......2005-04-02
All questions that smacked me when I had this and the green covered cd. What's the difference? Are these the same? What in the world is going on? Well, is a neat project of electronic Brazilian music with an urban spin to it. So you've got some sexiness dripping in the tracks with an overall feeling of Braziliance since to be honest, you can always tell when the musicians making Brazilian music are... Brazilians. This project was spearheaded by Andre Bourgeois and Geisan Varne - who would later release a more electronic jazz album in I think 2003-early 2004.
First, the music, to me, was very enjoyable. The upbeat tracks like Noite had a great bounce to them. Meanwhile Simone Moreno drips in Ribanceira; you close your eyes and can feel the water tickle your skin. Great build-up to the track. The Jazzed up Canto De Ossanha has a funky feeling to it that gives you a sense of what Andre Bourgeois was really thinking of doing for their next album... it does fit the 'urban jungle' vibe that they were going for. Adding another sensual vibe to the CD was one of my personal favorite singers, Andrea Marquee, as she redoes Preciso Perdoar with a beat reminiscent to TLC's old "Waterfalls" track but without the guitar and with a sax. Meanwhile I didn't care for the vocal of "HIstora De Pescadores" and the remixes at the end of the cd were solid but unspectaclar.
In all actuality, this and the green covered are very similar and they share several of the same tracks like: Ribanceira, Lembrar Voice, Noite, Pescadores, Canto De Ossanha, Preciso Perdoar. But there are some flaws in this one that make it all the more confusing to follow. For instance, the omission of the 10th track on the listings... it should be Ribanceira. And then the remake of the old Dori Caymmi track, titled here as "Historia De Pescadores Part 1" is really the same as "Cancao De Pescador" in the green covered cd. And then this one doesn't have some of the good songs from the other - like Garao by Paula Lima or Urubu remixec by Bossa Cuca Nova.
Doggonit, I can't recommend one way or the other. They're so much alike, yet still different, so it's a toss-up.. And if that isn't enough... there's ANOTHER version of this titled "Urban Bossa vol 2" (never got vol 1), that's got a black cover and is a two disc set! Disc 1 is remixes, disc two has cuts on both the red/green covered . It was released in Brasil in 2001.
