Strange and Beautiful.......2004-03-15
It is a strange sonic mix of electronics, primitivism and jazz. The mood is predominately VERY subtle and hypnotic; if I remember correctly, there is not a bar faster than andante on the entire CD. But trust me, this is a good thing.
And so is the fact that Ry Cooder produced it...

Drums in the House.......2003-11-22
great album, very nice drumbs and beats.......2003-09-06
Latin House.......2003-08-06
Padre (Spiritual Vibe) starts with some heavy rapid bass pedal drumming and then goes on to some heavy bass drumming with a cymbals, snare, and then some heavy bass drumming. A bongo/conga makes a brief appearance, then a synthesiser puts in a couple of bass notes here and there. Meanwhile the bass goes on. Invention, development, and surprises are not on the menu, but this track is great for some mindless, feel-good, laid-back head-banging. Bim, bom-bom, bum, bam-bam.
Or was I talking about Ultimates Drums by Ultimates Drums? The second track starts somewhere in the middle of the first track. Bim, bom-bom, bum, bam-bam.
Amor Y Paz (Spiritual Vibe) is quite different. There's this heavy bass drum. Boom-baloo-boom-ba-boom. Then there's a sort of electric silk-ripping sound. Oh, and cymbals and a bongo. And a few notes from a synth. Then it gets faster. Oh, no, sorry, Amor Y Paz must have tailed off somewhere there because now I'm talking about Everybody feels it (Rudy Wilbum) which goes like this: Bom-shela-bom-shela-bom-shela and ba-geet-shee-ba-shee-ba. You could possibly get the same effect by putting your ear to the piston of a steam locomotive as it goes into a tunnel and over a bridge and through a station. Only you'd probably get a horribly hot ear. At some point there's a cat squawking too, but it goes away.
And comes back when Chocho Loco (Sequential) starts. This is much faster, and much more bass drum, but there's an androgynous voice too. Is that a woman or a castrato? Tagliente to you too, mother. Bum-shuggalugga-bum. Take this to the gym, get on the treadmill, turn up the volume, burn out before...
...Salsa da Cuba (Spiritual Vibe) gets in there with the bass pedal drum, the bongos, the occasional cymbals, and the cello. Well, yes, I lied about the cello.
I've got the feeling (Ajai) breaks the mould. Heavy bass drumming, yeah, but now there are vocals too. This is the one line "I've got the feeling" repeated until you get the feeling you'd like to bring back hanging.
Fiendish House (every time I think) is identical to I've got the feeling, except that the vocalist seems to be saying "I just gotta say thing". Or is it "I just wanna say thing"? Who cares? Just shoot the ... and hand me the valium.
Give me Fierce (UDG) is quite different, in that it starts with heavy bass drumming. Boom shalaga boom shalaga boom shalaga, and this goes on for a long time. A woman says "underground" a few times, and the E is running low as the strobes flicker and the night is young. Hey, the siren is on the track, chill, hey? Underground. Where this CD will be.
There are 6 more tracks on this CD. Apparently it's by "various artists" but I think they mean "various musicians all playing the same thing with different names". You can't complain you don't get value for money.

Album Description
Underneath the rooting bass of Daniel Schwartz is embodied the nervous impatience of Hip-Hop and Rap. In effect, the integrity of the unique sound of City: Works Of Fiction was so innovative that few, if none, could follow its lead. English Techno group 808 State would later remix `Voiceprint'. Others like The Orb and Howie B would cite the importance of this album.
