Where's "Sniff 'n' the Tears".......2007-03-30

This soundtrack doesn't include one of the best songs from the movie, "Driver's Seat" by Sniff 'n' the Tears. Only 3 stars due to this flaw!

Driver's Seat.......2005-10-09

Where the heck is Sniff n' The Tears' "Driver's Seat" in this soundtrack. It plays at a definite changing point in the movie where Floyd comes to tell Jack that he needs to switch to video instead of film. It's a travesty that this song wasn't included. But a good soundtrack nonetheless

Great music, low quality recordings.......2007-04-17

As a DJ of 20 years I was happy to find such a great quantity of extended mixes on one disc. Unfortunately the copy I purchased seemed lacking in sound quality to the point that I could not use it in a professional setting. Although for personal use what a great collection

Disco Nights is a pretty good series, but it always promises Extended Club Play Versions on front, and that's not always the case. You sometimes get 7" versions--and sometimes they even EDIT the 12" versions, which is a shame, because there are a good number of long versions on each volume. This volume gives you:

2. Heaven Knows (5:58) (This incredible extended version is actually an edit of the even longer version available on Disco Nights: DJ Pix!!!)

I agree with another reviewer that this is probably the creme-de-la-creme of this series. Contains killer dance cuts like Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Shame," one of the absolute hottest 70's dance tracks, if not the all-time greatest. Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," also ranks as one of the very best, and is incredibly moving. Vicky-Sue Robinson's original "Turn The Beat Around," is also one of the all-time high points of 70's dance music. And, great dance classics like Donna Summer's "Last Dance," Alicia Bridges' "I Love The Night Life (Disco Round)," and Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell," are included here, also in their full-length glory. What fun! The remaining tracks are just fine, with absolutely no clunkers. GRAB THIS ONE!

Ah, disco. A music which saw women take center stage on many occasions. I love to put on this collection when I'm biking, it gives me energy to workout and I can sing along. The variety is pretty good, in fact, some of the selections are rather horrible but we can't like everything. This was the second of this series that I purchased and I'm very glad I did. Think I'll go bike and sing "I Will Survive" right now.

Personally, I feel that this is the best of the Disco Night collection. The best disco artists are on this CD with Donna Summer singing 2 songs. A great start for any disco beginner.

You can't help but toe tap through the entire album. The CD appropriately ends with Donna Summer singing "Last Dance." brings back memories of those last days of disco, eh? Closin' out the place!

I agree that Jackie Moore's "This Time Baby" is a great, near-forgotten tune; however, the same can be said for Karen Young's "Hot Shot". Another one-hit wonder.

This a superb and generous collection of dance-era classics. There's a nice variety of sound and texture across this set. Most selections are full-length, which is very important to us die-hard 70's club music fans. If you have not ever heard Jackie Moore's monumental contribution to classic disco, "This Time Baby," do not deny yourself one minute longer. It is the "absolute bomb."

Can't believe two others said "get this for the Jackie Moore song." That's exactly why it's been in my cart. There are about a dozen songs that transport me back to the dancefloors of the late 70's when I was a disco twink. This is one of them. Absolute perfection!

I have performed many of these hits on stage and I must say that some of the song choices that some people picked were sad, but that's what makes the world go round and tha's only my opion.
When Heaven Must Be Missin an Angel, or Disco Nights, or Native New Yorker played the entire floor was crowded, when Shake your Grove Thang came on in between sets there wasn't hardly anyone on the floor. ONE MUST GROOVE TO MOVE!!!!!! I can no longer dance but I still groove!!! Holla if ya feel me! PEACE!!!

GREAT SERIES! GREAT COLLECTION!.......2005-04-21

I am a big fan of 70's dance music, a/k/a "disco."
For those of us who love to dance, having contemporary music that was custom-tailored to that activity was something extraordinary and wonderful.

What I really appreciate about this series is that, whenever possible, you're getting the extended versions of the songs, or at least the full-length album cut. [For the record, I have never been able to find an extended version of "Boogie Oogie Oogie" and "Rock The Boat," and believe they simply don't exist. There may be one or two others on this set that weren't available in extended version.]

[I'm betting that some of the reviewers who gave this cd poor marks never purchased--or even listened to--this set, but are from the "disco sucks" clique, and just wanted to make their point. It's OK if you don't care for "disco," but... Folks, you can't fault this record company, as it clearly--in large letters--states that this is DISCO on the cover. You'd be a knucklehead for buying one of these cds if you hate disco.]

Also, this is not watered-down, or overly-pop disco, like what was featured in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER [I refer specifically to the BeeGees, and BeeGees-produced tracks--nothing against the Gibb brothers, they are great in their own right, but their SNF stuff is definitely not "classic" disco in my book]. Nope, this is the real club stuff, not designed to capitalize on a trend, but which actually helped CREATE the trend. That being said, two highlights from this set WERE featured in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, and are fine cuts and pretty exciting and dynamic: "Disco Inferno," and "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel."

This set is loaded with dance classics, among my favorites: Chic's "Good Times," and Odyssey's "Native New Yorker," the latter being one of the all-time, smooth, sophisticated 70's club tunes. And for those who like to spell while they dance there's even "Y.M.C.A."

In fact, for a representation of the finest of 70's dance/club music, you'd be hard-pressed to beat this set.

The sound is uniformly good throughout this entire series. Boogie on! Bravo!

The tracks "Brazil, She Works Hard For The Money, Ain't That Enough for You and Hot Stuff are surprising. Hot Stuff is the 12" version. I was expecting that "Makin' It-by David Naughton would be longer but it's not. Hopefully, a longer version of this can be found in future releases.

While this volume lacks a large number of 12" versions as promised, it has a couple of goodies. for starters, Somebody's Watching Me is mislabeled on the case as being the 3:57 radio verion. It's not. It's the full 4:58 12" version!!! Plus, you also get the radio remix of Michael Sembello's Maniac, which sounds very different from both the Flashdance soundtrack version and the original 12" mix by Jellybean (although I believe this mix is by Jellybean also). Track times are:

Dance Floor Hits Disco Nights Vol. 8.......2003-09-16

The cover says, "Extended long play club versions!", but only 5 out of 12 songs are longer than 5 minutes. I've heard the album version of "Makin' It" (the reason why I bought this compilation) and this ain't it. The long version is at least 5 minutes and this is 3:08. This version of "Bridge over Troubled Water" is only 3:18, but the mix I already have is at least 9 minutes.

I have been using Amazon.com for 6 years now, and this is the first product review i am doing.....just goes to show you how much i like this cd. I have been browsing for disco songs for many years, and this is the first time i have my all-time favorites on one disc. "Stomp", "Flashlight", and others to name a few, and classics. I would have paid twice the amount to get that!

Disco Nights is the series that should have--but didn't go the extra mile. Promising Extended and Long Versions, it always makes sure no song runs much more than 7 minutes, even if that means editing 12" versions. This time around, you get:

Diana Ross ruins it all!!!!!.......2005-06-16

I bought this CD primarily because it contained the hit "Hang On In There Baby" by Johnny Bristol. Nowhere was it mentioned that this was a version that had been ruined by the addition of vocals by Diana Ross!!!!!! I found this to be misleading advertising and I was very disappointed. Had this CD not be saved by a few other good hits(Got to Give It Up for example), I would have thrown it in the trash. I wouldn't even sell it to a second-hand shop as nobody should have to be subjected to the screechings of Ms. Ross. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

I rated 2 stars and the price is $2.99. "LET IT WHIP" by the Dazz Band, 2nd is " CELEBRATION" by Kool and the Gang, 3rd is the "SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING" Peaches & Herb. The rest of the songs needs to be replace.

Funky Disco Fun!.......2002-01-20

This is a great CD because it contains the LONG versions of some great all time disco funk classics. ......... Although Disco isn't my favorite type of music per-se, I am a devout rocker with a alternative bent, I LOVE a few cuts here. ......... My first radio on-air job was in the Urban/CHR hits format. "Burn Rubber" from the Gap Band is one of my all-time favorite songs that I fell in love with at that time of my life. It is on here in all it's great funky entirety. A must have song from the brothers Wilson, not featured on any other compliations. ......... Another set of brothers, Johnson that is, do the other must have disco funk classic "Stomp" here. This song isn't featured on any other compilation I searched. I looked high and low at over 200 available CDs here at amazon, and found this cut included as well. ............ There's lots of good material for any disco funkster to boogie down with, like "Jungle Boogie" from Kool & TG, but in a really perfect world, "Take My Heart" would've been included too. Hey, bottom line, this is WELL worth a spot in your CD collections disco section.

suffers the most from "edit" syndrome.......2005-08-09

This volume has just about all the wrong versions that are supposed to be extended long play club versions. Not to mention, it's almost all tracks that have been used on other volumes in the series. Track times:

there are two tunes you can dance and they sound familiar. "FAME" by Irene Cara, 'DISCO INFERNO" by tramps
"WHAT A FEELING" by Irene Cara from the movie "FLASHDANCE" its a dance where your body spins around the floor with your back like a toy called: TOP or a YOYO. There are 2 songs you may dance to enjoy I mentioned above.

Blast from the Past.......2003-06-03

Agree about that rrip down memeory lane. I don't have this album, but am familiar with all the songs. Even seen many of the movies several times.

I'm sure there are more artist's classics that fit this specific niche that may be included. Did I see Car Wash? And what about the Andrea Ture Connection. (well if you know her other claim to fame, you'll know what I mean). Seen her movies advertised, but never (of course) watched, so I can't say if she sung in her movies. I guess that reminds me of Grace Jones, as well. And Vanessa Williams. No wonder certain groups didn't like disco. Not me, I love it--can't hear enough of it.Classic from the 70's that is. None of this Hip Hop garbage.

Listening to this album brings back memories of the real Disco clubs in 1979-1980. The whole collection brings back the popular songs without having to buy them individually. Sit back relax close your eyes and go back through memory lane :)

Excellent selection of tracks for Deejays........2005-12-27

I ordered this for the hard to find hit "Livin It Up" by Bell & James, but I was delighted with all of the hits on this one. It's even better because each of these tracks are mastered in a way that can be easily mixed or remixed by deejays. As a long-time deejay this was a real treat.

This one is better than most volume with a handful off actual full length 12" versions, but there are still problems. However, the number ONE reason to get this volume is the EXTREMELY rare extended version of Donna Summer's Heaven Knows, which is actually edited on another volume of Disco Nights! Track times:

HAPPINESS.......2000-12-27

Michael Zager's "Let's All Chant" was THE underground dance classic of 1978, while Teena Marie's Square Biz and the Rick James song are lovely bubbling slabs of funk, In The Navy by Village People is real singalong pop disco, as is the Pointer Sisters track, and Never Can Say Goodbye was of course a huge pop hit. I think this is a great collection from an era when dance music still had style, soul and personality.

UNKNOWNS? I'm not sure how old Larry is, but I'm a 40 year old ex-nightclub disc jockey. ALL of these songs are great. Ollie and Jerry was a huge hit for me, as were Never Can Say Goodbye, Sugar Pie HoneyBunch, Let's All Chant, Square Biz...etc. I'd have to say that anyone who's looking for classic dance tracks would appreciate this cd. Some of the tracks on this cd are a little more familiar than others by title, but you'll remember them all once you listen to them!

Songs that never made it.......2000-01-24

This CD should be named "Songs That Never Made It". Except for 2 tracks (Jump and Heavan Knows),which are available on other volumes, the songs on this CD are all unknowns for a very good reason. It would be interesting to know the names of the DJ's who thought these were their "Favorite Pix".

Do not be fooled by the "Extended Long Play Club Versions" note on this disc. All of these songs are destroyed to no end with the exception of one track. Here is an indepth review:
Supernature - Cerrone/very lousy edit and chopped in all the wrong places. Buy the CD "Cerrone 3" to hear this work of art

Love And Desire - Arpeggio/strange edit of this one taking sections of the track and putting them in different places

I Found Love - Love And Kisses/this is the original promo edit for this one, not bad, but bad mastering. Hear the good master of this edit on the boxed set"Casablanca records Story"

Hot Butterfly - Bionic Boogie/not edited but just the lp version.The 12 is way long and mixed differently(unavalible on cd)

Star Wars - Meco/another original promo edit with bad mastering, just buy the Meco album and hear the whole track

I Love America - Patrick Juvet/the original single version, low mastering

Love To Love You- Donna Summer/DESTROYED!!!! the original single edit is better

Don't Cry For Me..- Festival/Unedited but, hear the whole "Evita" suite

Souviners - Voyage/FULL VERSION!!!!! A miracle. But the downside..too much treble on mastering

Romeo And Juliet - A.Costandinos/ Well, a cleaned up version of the horrable Casablanca Records 12 inch edit. This is the only good thing about this disc. If you never heard the entire track of this..You're S.O.L. unless you shop for used classic vinyl. It's a great 31min. track in its entirty. Filling an entire LP. This is just one of Alec Costandinos' great concept masterpieces. Sadly, none of his other greats such as "Hunchback Of Notre Dame" has ever been rereleased on CD, not even an edit to give people a taste.

Theme From Midnight.. - Giorgio Moroder/This track is the wrong title. It's really called "Chase" and is butchered beyond belief. "Theme From..." is the name of another track off the same album and is an ambient type ballad. These people not only give fase info on extended versions and bad editing but, wrong track info as well (JEEESEEE!!)

Boogie Motion - Beautiful Bend/The original single edit. Your not missing much for its full version is repetitive anyway.

Well, there you have it. If you are a true classic clubber, BEWARE!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS JOKE!!!!!! But, if you are just a person who wants a feel for some of the more underground side of disco and classic electronic dance..pick it up. Who knows, after what i said, you might find yourself buying a turntable and tracking down this vinyl and compiling a good version of this disc.

Not far out but quite good.......2001-12-31

To people who were familiar with this material during disco's heyday and own vinyls of these titles, let me start with the bad news: A) Some of the hits, such as tracks 1, 3, 7, 10, 11 and 12 are'nt extended play versions, and almost all the tracks aren't full length versions. I had especially expected the last track to be an extended play or full length version since this isn't one easy to purchase anywhere on CD. B) Some of the tracks' editing, such as in "I Found Love" is short of being good. The tracks could have been organized differently. In the third track you can hear, at a certain time mark, a distinct change from a certain level of digital remastering to a much better one.

On the good side, the hit selection is excellent. Every Eurodisco producer of that era seems to have gotten his fair share and his honor due. If you don't want to hoard all the Eurodisco albums and you don't insist on having full length versions, this disc is a M U S T for you. Don't waste anymore time and hit the pavement hunting!

A must have for any collection!.......2001-08-11

If you are a true disco maniac from 76-77, you will love this CD. These hard to find songs that mostly only came in 12 inch single imports will be appreciated by anyone who really knows the undergroud disco scene.

Except for what did they do to Star Wars theme on this CD? Unless my CD player is broken, it sounds like they cut out the best part. Maybe I will go back and listen to it again. Otherwise, it's good.
