Album Description

Whether as a songwriter, producer or arranger, Hatch was Pye Records' golden boy, the creative force behind many of the most successful pop sounds of the 60s, securing hits for scores of artists & recording some outstanding easy listening tracks in his own right. Often cited as Britain's Burt Bacharach, Tony Hatch's compositions have stood the test of time, exuding now - as they did then - panache & sophistication. This collection gathers together his most well known recordings, with the hits he penned & produced for others, pop standards like 'Call Me' & 'Downtown', plus such perennial favorites as TV's 'Crossroads' theme & the now cultish 'Sounds Of The Seventies'. 60 original recordings by the original artists. Standard Jewelcases housed in a slipcase. Castle/Pulse. 2003.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars GREAT LISTENING....Upbeat and Familiar songs........2004-09-28

This 3 disc boxed set shows off the talents of British composer, arranger, and band leader Tony Hatch in great style!

Disc #1 is made up of 20 songs composed by Tony, played by his fine band. I especially like "Music to Watch Girls By" and the old Jeri Southern hit "An Occasional Man". Not a bad tune in the bunch and that can be said for all 3 discs.

Disc #2 consists of 20 hits Tony composed for artists such as Petula Clark, The Searchers, and others. Even the few you may not recognize sound terrific here.

Disc #3 holds 20 more, these made up of TV, movie and other Theme Songs composed and played by Mr Hatch....most are familiar and sound refreshingly good here!

Like me, you may not know too much about Tony Hatch, but you'll be amazed at how many of his songs were big hits in various realms for numerous artists. I recommend this set very highly.
