Whereas Jodeci (the four-man ensemble that spawned this spin-off project) were known for their grinding-the-stage gyrations and afterparty aspirations, K-Ci & JoJo, often besuited in tuxes and tails, are a duo known more for their semidignified balladry. Each of their two previous albums (Love Always and It's Real) spawned an anodyne megahit: "All My Life" and "Tell Me It's Real," respectively. X promises nothing less. "Crazy" has that formula feel to it; "Baby, I apologize for all the things that I've done," JoJo croons at the outset, before giving way to a vocoded chorus so tinny it almost collapses. Nevertheless, its moody blue tenor is just what urban radio ordered. The pair keep up the serenades throughout X, hitting high points on "One Last Time" and the Marvin Gaye-ish "I Can't Find the Words." K-Ci and JoJo only go uptempo on the banal "Game Face" and the bubbly, aggressively sexy "Thug in Me, Thug in You." The latter features yet another lost 2Pac verse, and it's the only track where the two don't appear to stand on ceremony--hinting that freaks still lurk under those tuxedos. --Jon Caramanica

4 out of 5 stars Just got it - very cool.......2007-04-10

I've been a Stones fan since about 64 or so. I've got prety much all their original albums. Amazon started posting some old ones with lots of bonus tracks and I thought I'd try one that looked like it had a lot of studio outtakes. This is very neat, something I've waited years for the Stones to do but I'm tired of waiting. Any other band would have released this stuff years ago. It's just too bad you have to buy the original album too and not just the outtakes because anyone who would want the outtakes already has the original album. But these are good: some old blues covers, Jagger/Richards originals that didn't quite cut the mustard, some redos of hits. These aren't just different mixes of songs you already have. Not Fade Away is for sure a different take. Look What You Done I'm not sure about. The harp solo is the same, but I wonder if it would be exactly the same if I put it side by side with the original release. Anyway, these are fun and the recording quality of the bonus tracks is equal to the original release. All good and worth it. From a fan for over 40 years.

4 out of 5 stars Better than most all the ordinary FF soundtracks.......2007-01-24

First of all, people seem to be overly critical of the choir. They say that it sounds out of tune or whatever, but this is only because they were recorded live. In Advent: One-Winged Angel, the same choir sounds totally incredible. The choir itself isn't bad, it's the recording environment that was not so hot.
That said, I can say that this is a very impressive two CD set, even though several of the songs I don't recognize. The music is professionally composed and arranged, and just goes to show that Final Fantasy music is proffesional level. The only cons are the lesser sound quality of being recorded live and the MC tracks, which can get to be a bit long. The way they keep talking makes me really want to know what they're saying. My favorite pieces are:
    1. One-Winged Angel: I do admit that the FFVII Reunion Tracks arrangement is better, but only because of the recording environment. This arrangement has a lot of cool new elements and an awesome sound. The only problems I see with this arrangement is the absent-minded microphone placement and a bit of background shuffling that is heard at one part. The shuffling is very quiet and you get used to it, but I'm just picky about these things. As for the microphone placement; whoever put one right next to the #%@$in' snare drum deproved the quality of the piece a bit much. The snare drum during the chorus is louder than any of the other parts, and the choir is already being a bit overpowered by the orchestra. This makes for a choral section that isn't heard well enough. Despite all these slight cons, however, this arrangement of the classic piece remains superb and awesome-sounding.
    2. Liberi Fatali: Same choir rant as before. This arrangement doesn't sound quite as good as the original, but it's not really that different, it's still an incredible piece.
    3. Melodies of Life: This arrangement is better, I think, than the original except for the singing. She sounded a lot more confident in the original. But aside from that, this song is a great classic.
    4. Suteki Da Ne: The original was quite a bit better, both in sound quality and in the singing. Rikki was nervous during the performance, it is shown by her incessant breath-taking in the middle of phrases and low confidence in her voice. However, the instrumentation does sound nicely different in some spots, and Rikki's singing is still beautiful.
This album is a must-have for any FF freak, and is better than most all the ordinary FF soundtracks. Don't miss it.

    5 out of 5 stars I love this CD........2004-02-23

Firstly, Mr. Gibbs -- why would anybody buy this if they haven't played Final Fantasy games?

Secondly, this is an amazing CD. With the exception of One-Winged Angel, every track on this CD is (in my opinion) the best orchestral version of these songs ever done. And this is coming from somebody who owns Celtic Moon, Grand Finale, Fithos Lusec, and a smattering of Orchestral Game Concert CDs.

Do yourself a favor and buy this CD. It really is excellent.

4 out of 5 stars For those who wanna get their FF orchestra groove on..........2004-02-20

Final Fantasy 20020220 is worth buying. It is a great CD to listen to if you want to hear orchestrated versions performed live, mistakes and all. That said, let me point out everything that is wrong with the performances, and why I did not give 20020220 a 5/5. As partial as I am to Final Fantasy music, I must criticize the singing in this performance. In both tracks that featured a choir (Liberi Fatali and One Winged Angel) it seemed like everyone was trying to outsing each other, the tenors in particular would sing awfully loud, while everyone else was drowned out. The soloists RIKKI and Emiko Shiratori did a fabulous job, in my opinon. Others said that they sounded nervous, I do not agree. The actual performance by the orchestra was brilliant. I especially liked Liberi Fatali, One Winged Angel, and Vamo' Alla Flamenco. I wish I could speak Japanese, because 8 of the 25 tracks on the 2 disc set are nothing but the concert MCs talking about stuff. All in all I would like to restate that FF20020220 is worth buying, but maybe you should play some of the FF games to hear these songs before you listen to the orchestra version, all the more to appreciate this masterpiece.

4 out of 5 stars The Fantasy Continues..........2003-06-10

Nobuo Uematsu truly holds true to the Final Fantasy music legacy he himself set down beginning with the Final Fantasy Symphonic Suite CDs. Although I do have a few complaints, my overall take on this album is extremely positive. I'd say my favourite renditions on this CD are "Vamo' Alla Flamenco", lush, rich arrangement for orchestra (which truly is the greatest symphonic rendering I've seen from almost any game composer [thanks to Shiro Hamaguchi]) and the brass-graced Final Fantasy VI's "Terra" / "Tina" (which almost lives up to the Grand Finale version). Basically, every single song on these two CDs were mind-blowing with the exceptions of the two most crucial ones, "Liberi Fatali" and "One-Winged Angel". Okay, fine... I've got to give credit where credit is due, Liberi Fatali isn't THAT bad. It falters near the end though, but the primary complaint isn't the symphonic elements (or even the annoying snare [?] drum... *grrr*), but rather the supposed choir they assigned. Not very harmonic or in-tune, but I still give it 4-stars.
To sum it all up, all very nice arrangements with those little differences which make it all the more enjoyable. Cons? The choir voices and the MC segments (I don't speak Japanese, so my apologies if you do and find them entertaining).

4 out of 5 stars One of the Best (non OST) Final Fantasy works.......2003-02-19

There hasn't been a live CD since the ill-fated "Symphonic Suite" many years ago and now there is this - quite simply put a live version of some of the best Final Fantasy songs. The Tokyo Philharmonic is on every beat and adds alittle more to the Final Fantasy melodies. The MC's get annoying and their Japanese is very hard to understand. The choice of songs was superb yet there is no "live feel" as most of the songs are played just as you would have heard them on another Final Fantasy CD. All in all, this is one of the best and one can easily see by some of its few flaws to its real beauty - the epitome of Nobuo Uematsu's Final Fantasy work.

3 out of 5 stars not the strongest series of 12" singles on CD...but some hard finds.......2005-09-03

Volume 2 is heavily 80s focused, and while there are some goodies, there's also some obscure stuff, and alternate long versions from the ones I was looking for. Breakdown is:

      1. night train (5:37)
      2. living in america (5:56) (this long version is not the US 12", which is a different mix and runs 30 seconds longer)
      3. obsession (5:40)
      4. Poison Arrow (6:54) (this is the only 12" version I've ever found of this new wave classic, and it's just awful--slow and jazzy)
      5. talking with myself (5:46)
      6. say hello wave goodbye (9:11) (cool to have, because it wasn't included on the re-issue of Softcell's original CD)
      7. back and forth (6:23)
      8. Breakout (6:51) (the US 12" had several mixes. this is the NAD mix, which sounds most like an "extended" version of the original)
      9. hot water (8:04)
      10. promised land (7:04)
      11. big decision (4:37)
      12. wipeout (5:50) (Not the 12" version I have, which is called the "Wave 1 mix"--it's also mixed by the Latin Rascals, but runs 18 seconds longer, and has crashing waves at the end. This version fades)

4 out of 5 stars Man, this is all the hardcore you could want........2007-03-07

As my review Kris said... "Man, this is all the hardcore you could want. With three CDs mixed by three different artists (Darren Styles, Breeze and Hixxy), you get a hot full frontal assault of this truly high energy form of dance music. Closer to happy hardcore than gabber but not quite as candy as a lot of happy hardcore can be, Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 3 fuses a bit of trance's exuberant melodicizing with the frantic pacing and pop flavors of happy hardcore. The result is that happy hardcore's cheerfulness and its ability to slam a dance floor are maintained but the schmaltzy bubblegum of the genre is mitigated a bit, making this more palatable for those who don't consider happy hardcore to be a very serious form of music. The abrasive extremities of gabber are largely avoided, allowing for more accessibility for many listeners. Big, bright melodies, relentless beats and catchy samples (some of which are of the adult variety, so look out, kiddies) fill this 3-CD collection out nicely, even if some of the tunage is a tad on the shallow side." 4 out of 5 stars Not The Volume 2 You're Thinking Of..........2004-08-01

I'll start by stating what was previously stated. This is NOT the same "WWF Volume 2" that you bought in the store in 1997. This is an imported CD from Austria, and not even close to the same disc.

Obviously, there are several cosmetic differences, such as the cover art, and the inclusion of a Tammy "Sunny" Sytch poster and a sheet of stickers featuring five of the WWF's top stars in 1997, Sid Vicious (WWF Champion from Jan-March 1997, Steve Austin had yet to be a main eventer on his own.), Bret Hart (who was feuding with Austin at this time, his classic WrestleMania match with Hart was one of the things that truly established him as main event material on his own, and began his babyface turn at the same time it established Hart's anti-American heel role.), Undertaker (who would reclaim the WWF Championship from Sid at WrestleMania), Shawn Michaels (who Sid had won the WWF Championship from at the Royal Rumble), and of course, Sunny. During 1997, the role of manager/valet was becoming very limited, and Sunny was mainly used for goodwill purposes, modeling WWF merchandise, and occaisional guest appearances on WWF programming.

The actual title of this album is "Hits of the World Wrestling Federation: We Gotta Wrestle". Why it is called "vol. 2" or "WWF X-Press" is unknown, since those phrases are not used anywhere on the actual album.

The track listing is slightly different, as well, with Ken Shamrock's elimination (he wasn't a real big part of the WWF picture at this point), and the inclusion of a second Jake Roberts theme. At this point in 1997, Jake wasn't a real big part of the WWF picture, either, so it's unkown why he was included on this album, unless you consider he has more name value overseas due to his big run in the 1980's WWF. Another curious thing is that while several of the songs on this album weren't the actual theme songs used by the wrestlers, Jake never really had "distinct" entrance music, so again, it is curious why he was included on this album.

The majority of the songs that ARE included on the WWF: The Music Vol. 2, are actually different on this album. Call them alternate versions. Some are longer, some shorter, some different. Case in point, the Shawn Michaels song, "Bad Attitude" has been used in the past on WWF television (one of Shawn's music videos), but Shawn's primary theme continues to be the more well-known "Sexy Boy" (at least this one doesn't have Sherri Martel on vocals!).

Faarooq's theme song, "Nation of Domination", has the long-awaited rap from the USWA Memphis tag team, PG-13 (Jamie Dundee aka JC ICE and Wolfie D) that was never seen on any other version of Faarooq's theme.

Also markedly different as well is Sid's music, Rocky Maivia (and boy is it a hoot to see him in his old get-up he wore during his very first babyface run, prior to his first heel turn when he joined the Nation. I can almost hear the chants of "Die, Rocky, Die" in the background!).

Also, NONE of these songs appeared on WWE Anthology, so it's definitely worth the investment. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars THE TRUTH ABOUT WE GOTTA WRESTLE!!.......2003-03-26

I've seen alot of reviews for this CD, but never a completely accurate one. First of all, it's NOT the same as WWF Volume 2.
Here is the TRUE LIST of differences between the 2 CDs.
      (1) There is no Ken Shamrock or Dude love Theme. (2) Ahmed Johnson (pearl river rip) is 2:43 long on this CD. on volume 2, it was 3:16 long. (3) jake 'the snake' roberts (snake) is on this cd. it is NOT on wwf volume 2. (4) Faarooq (nation of domination) is the ORIGINAL VERSION WITH RAP LYRICS, not just the instrumental from WWF Volume 2. (5) Rocky Maivia (destiny) is the song used by Rocky BEFORE the WWF Volume 2 song. it is completely different and should not even have the same name as the one on Volume 2. (6) Flash Funk (can't get enough) does not have the "oh flash you are so funky" intro. other than that, it's the same. (7) Sunny (i know you want me) is the original version used by Sunny BEFORE WWF volume 2. it makes the volume 2 version look more like a REmix. (8) shawn michaels (bad attitude) is here, but NOT on WWF volume 2. it is song he used for a short time in 1997. THERE YOU HAVE IT!! I hope that EVERYBODY has a clear view of this CD now. It's about time :-) as far as my credibility here, I own both CDs so this is ACCURACY AT IT'S FINEST. Now you can decide for yourself if it's worth the buy. I give it 5 stars. I LOVE IT.

1 out of 5 stars About this CD.......1999-03-20

This CD is the same as WWF We gotta wrestle. Not to forget, it is the same as WWF THE MUSICS VOL.2 only has Jake The Snake Roberts Theme by removing Ken Shamrocks Theme.

4 out of 5 stars This CD has some Great songs on it!.......2005-09-06

If you like X-Japan or are into J-Rock this CD should be in your player!

      5 out of 5 stars amazing ^_^.......2001-04-02

I was introduced to JRock by my friend, who sucked me into Luna Sea's world by lending me her MOTHER CD, by Luna Sea. Since then, i have fallen for this band (or, rather, former band, due to their 'fallen curtains' just this past December *sniffs*) and i have become a big fan of theirs. Ryuichi had his capturing vocals, Sugizo and Inoran with their awesome guitar, J bringing the background depth with his bass, and of course we cannot forget Shinya for his incomparable percussions. From that road, i learned of Visual Rock/JRock's grandaddy of em all, X-Japan (whose leader, Yoshiki, discovered Luna Sea ^_^). The first song i heard from them was Endless Rain, and it was so good (and sad, lol)! X-Japan was so talented, i often wonder why they disbanded in the first place, and i had hopes of them returning together one day, but sadly that'll never happen due to lead guitarist Hide's suicide in 98. I'm sure that not a lot of people can learn to appreciate JRock, cuz they have no idea what they are listening to (unless they're a native speaker ^-^) But if you hunt down translated lyrics, the true meanings of the songs are really capturing, this going for all JRock Bands, including X-Japan, Luna Sea, Glay, L'Arc en Ciel, etc. Anyway! Endless Rain was an awesome CD, the song Endless Rain being my favorite of all of them. If you are a fan of JRock, you must get this CD! ^^ If you aren't, then i suggest you start listening to some Japanese Music (no, silly, not anime music ^_o) First impressions are lasting ones, so i suggest you listen to Luna Sea's TONIGHT. That will always be my most favorite song from Luna Sea.

I'm sorry if that was all just stupid ranting! ^^;; If you missed the CD review somewhere in there, then in simple terms, X-Japan was the greatest band, and their music will always be legendary. Have fun listening ^^

5 out of 5 stars X KICKS ASS! THE BEST BAND IN JAPAN!.......1999-01-30

I've lived in Japan for about ten years and I've been to hundreds of shows and own many Japanese Rock c.d.'s. Let me tell you, "X JAPAN" (formerly "X") is the best, most versatile, most talented band in Japan. I've been to six of their shows, three of which were at the biggest arena in Japan, the Tokyo Dome, by invitation of my friend HIDE, the lead guitarist and artist of the band. they put on an EXCELLENT show every time! Putting every drop of their heart, soul and energy into every minute of every show! They are INTENSE! They play hard rock, rock, beautiful ballads, and even classical music, something for almost any kind of music lover. Unfortunately the band no longer exists, due to their break-up in December of 1997. With no chance of reuniting, due to the suicide (reason unknown) of my friend HIDE on May 2nd,1998, they have become legends in Japan. I highly suggest that you check out this c.d. and any other "X" or "X JAPAN" c.d.'s or videos that you can get your hands on. I myself own just about every one of them. Excellent band, the biggest ever in Japan! Now there's got to be a good reason for that, and you'll find that reason in their music. Check it out!

4 out of 5 stars Give yourself a treat. Try some Japanese rock.......1998-09-30

Travelling around I get the opportunity to hear a lot of music that doesn't hit mainstream US radio. Rock from Japan is something I've just found and can't get enough of.

X just rocks, no frills, just good hard rock. Tasty guitars, energetic vocals and hard driving drums. I get scared listening to this with my friend in Thailand when he drives. "Oh, very powerful drummer" he says, then proceeds to play air drums until the trip is over. He's right, the drummer really kicks.

I'm lucky I get to travel to Asia enough that I can hear this stuff and not pay import prices if I want to buy.

The songs are ridiculous and Vissi can't sing no more!

She is an old lady that sings stupid ballads while screaming.

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate Greek voice!.......2003-06-14

Anna Vissi's "X" is by far one of the best surprises you will find when stopping by a record store at the International section. She has managed to make a record that transcends language and music style that challenges as a timeless album. Being a huge fan of hers (I don't speak Greek) I have to give this cd the maximun rating for the following reasons:
. Anna's voice of course is an instrument itself, raspy on some tunes, high on others, soultry with a few; but overrall it let's you know that who sings is a woman with character, with passions and pains. She transmits those emotions very well.
. The music is a mix of classic Greek with modern technology. Some are danceable, some are very dark, some are serious, and some are just pure fun!
. The production is impecable, tracks laidout in an organized way, that makes it perfect, it flows wonderfully at the first spin, and then it keeps getting better.

Opens with her whispering to you what's about to happen, a catchy electronic tune, being followed by the most powerful song on the cd, the title track "X" (to me anyways) with a hauting piano arragement that leaves you hitting the repeat button. Other gems are number 3, great poppish tune, and one of my favorites number 5 with classic Greek string arragements. Others to consider are number 7 powerful trance/dance song with synths that I haven't heard done so greatly. Twelve songs that will make you want more!
Maybe the only thing missing was perhaps a better graphic design, it's a great picuture of Anna, but we sure deserved more than one.
I'm sure this will be a keeper for you, great collector; and if you are just now getting familiar with Greek and International music in general, try this Anna Vissi record and you'll find out what Greek music is all about.

Most of the tracks have been heard before and there is little verity, some of it is club music remixes and it really lacks any real hardcore although Scott Brwon's remix to 'your my angel' is better than the original it is a CD i don't botehr listening to becoause I am into hardcore, NOT club music on fast forward which is waht this crap is...
