5 out of 5 stars Nude Dimensions: Naked Music, Vol. 1 - The Petalpusher Session Mixed By Miguel 'Migs'.......2007-05-06

This CD is amazing. Every track on the cd is top notch music.

5 out of 5 stars Just Awesome!.......2006-09-11

I dont plan on writing a review of all the CDs I own, but this one is one of my favorites.

I am a newly re-born house-head. The house beast has been asleep for over 15 years and then I came across Mr. Migs by way of some of the reviews I read here on Amazon. And I learned how much the music has grown and matured and become so sofisticated! My children even tell me they like "my music" LOL!

If you like Deep House, you must own this disc. This CD has great fidelity, it thump, thump, thumps while I am at work or while I am commuting in traffic or when I am cleaning.....just whenever!

Do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will not be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars Sexy naked music.......2006-07-04

As a fan of club/dance/ambient music in general, I would always find an artist that I liked and look desperately for their music always afraid to venture into compliations in fear of having a few songs that I knew I wouldn't like.

This is certainly not the case with Nude Dimensions.

Miguel Migs (petalpusher who I liked anyways) has done wonders in this seemless transition that takes you high then brings it back down to cool and just leades you through a musical experience only a fan of such music could truely appreciate.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-12-31

This is a great CD for anyone who is even a "moderate" house music fan. Great beats, sets the chill-out mood to a level to where you and you significant other will be comfortably naked. This is a must buy.

5 out of 5 stars return .......2005-10-16

its been a long long time

and still ........
this cd (& nd2,nd3) IS the house, a home of desire for better music a better dream a better love, and this desire will never fade.
Its good for your soul ...

A lot of my musician friends tend to laugh a little when i say that Floyd Cramer is cool. But he is, and this sweet little gospel record is ample proof. He plays the songs straight, allowing their simple beauty to shine through, uncluttered. It is especially nice to hear him solo, without a band or fancy arrangements.

AL has played with The Blues Project, Blood Sweat And Tears, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and The Who. Kooper Sessions Vol 2 was recorded with the legendary Shuggie Otis.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars enjoyable romp from an unlikely duo!.......2007-04-10

Al kooper's previous album(supersession)set the standard for superstar jam albums so this record, released just one year later, was bound to be overlooked. However, since most of shuggie otis' discography has been reissued in recent years it only seemed natural that eventually they would dust off this little gem.The record is broken into two sides:side one consists of concise readings of more tradionally based blues material while side two is where shuggie and al decide to stretch out in the form of three lenghty jams. All and all this album is a nice little record that if you dig shuggie otis is well worth forking over the ten or twelve bucks for the experience.

Kieran you probably know from his more popular moniker of Four Tet or perhaps from his time from the seminal post-rock instrumentalists Fridge. Steve Reid you've definitely heard before and you probably don't even know it. He played drums on Martha & The Vandellas' "Dancing In The Streets", and on countless other Motown sessions. On this release, the two come together to form a duet of electricity and percussion. A free jazz odyssey sure to melt minds as much as knock down barriers.

      Album Description

Kieran you probably know from his more popular moniker of Four Tet or from his time with the seminal post-rock instrumentalists Fridge. Reid was the drummer on Martha & The Vandellas' "Dancing In The Streets". Along with his Motown sessions, he's recorded and performed with James Brown, Miles Davis, and Fela Kuti, and he had a lengthy tenure in the Sun Ra Arkestra, along with putting out his own solo records. This meeting of rhythmic minds between Hebden and Reid is a free jazz odyssey sure to melt minds as much as knock down barriers. It's quite a compelling listen with melodic music textures and steady rhythms. The whole affair breathes and swings, daddy-o. Look for Volume II in the spring.

      Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars mixed bag of drum /electronics improvisations.......2006-03-19

Last year sometime, it was announced that electronic musician Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet) and classic jazz drummer Steve Reid had met up and were going to team up on a batch of recordings. In addition to Hebden adding some squiggles to last year's Spirit Walk by the Steve Reid Ensemble, the two stated that they'd finished not one, but two different albums worth of material together. The Exchange Session Vol. 1 is the first batch of that output, and it might not be quite what you expect.

Of course, if you've been listening to Four Tet, you know that he's been dabbling even more with free jazz and different stylings within his own music, so the three long-form workouts probably shouldn't arrive completely out of the blue. Recorded as live takes with no overdubs, the mostly amorphous tracks mainly focus on texture and rhythm, with some slight melodic loops creeping into the mix for very short periods before being overwhelmed. "Morning Prayer" opens the disc and at under seven minutes is the shortest track by a long shot. Reid builds his drumming slowly over the top of muffled flute loops, and around the middle of the track Hebden drops some more horn samples, eventually squiggling and mangling them as the track builds slightly then backs off again.

"Soul Oscillations" follows and takes much the same overall structure, with Hebden layering quiet loops while Reid meanders around on top of it before the track peaks about halfway through and rolls back down the hill again before another noisy blowout at the end. Of the tracks, "Electricity And Drum Will Change Your Mind" seems to have the most energy and focus, but after a propulsive beginning, even it seems to fall off the rails a bit. The biggest problem with the track (and the album as a whole) is that Hebden at times seems to have no real answer for the dextrous and expressive drumming of Reid other than letting loose with another blast of filtered blips and bleeps. There are moments where the two seem to sync up nicely and really unveil something beautiful and unique, but there are far too many other passages where the pairing doesn't quite seem to fully jel. Will Volume 2 be more of the same or something completely different? Here's hoping it's the latter.

5 out of 5 stars a classic in no uncertain terms.......2006-02-13

I love this cd. I bought it when i heard him for the first time on this cd's cd release tour. I just had to go buy it. It is head and shoulders above 100% of all trance albums of that era. Some people have remarked that he just played songs off Oakies' Tranceport, but this cd came out 10 months before Oakies'.

Do you remember that feeling that you had when you got your first kiss, had that first krush, snuck out of the house for the 1st time and got away with it, the afterglo after your first big 'O'.........."with another person"..;-)), well this is the music equivalent. So for the purist and novice alike BUY this classic and re-live those long forgotten vibes or create new ones. ;-))

5 out of 5 stars One of the best ever.......2003-08-12

For starters, For the other person who said it was cheesy yet good, it appears his review was just written in February 2003. This Kimball Collins ICU Session 1 CD is far from new, therefore the sound isnt the same type of electronic music or trance you would find today. This CD is 5 years old which makes it ancient for electronic music by todays standards. However, despite being 5 years old, it is easily one of the best CD's ever along with Paul Oakenfold's original Tranceport. This is one CD that should not be missing from anyones collection and you can literally pop it into the CD player and crank it without worrying about "happy trance drop outs" found in some of DJ Sammy's shallow club sounds or that of ATB or Alice Deejay.

If you are looking for a great CD to pop in and keep you awake on that long road trip, this is definitely one of those CD's. I consider this album one of my favorites as it, in a way, started my entire love for electronic music. (Track 12-Phase II) was the song that started it all for me. Since then I have managed to collect every single Global Underground, DJ Tiesto, Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine and many more. This Kimball Collins is still considered great, even among the artists and label runnings I just named.

5 out of 5 stars Cheesy yet enjoyable.......2003-02-23

I am a major trance junkie. I love the fast paced dance beats with the heavenly female vocals. I have been a big fan of trance for the past several years. Unfortunately trance doesn't get taken very seriously in the world of dance music. I think trance gets a bad rap and therefore are put down quite a bit like music snobs like house dj Armand Van Helden. Then again djs like DJ Sammy doesn't help the trance movement any better. Kimball Collins is another dj whose mix cd (for ICU) I found a bit on the cheesy side but nearly as bad as DJ Sammy on MoS's more recent dance compilation. Granted that "Session 1, Vol.1" is four years old, I can't help but feel that the music sounds so dated unlike Paul Oakenfold's "Another World" mix cd which is a few years old and yet still sounds fresh. Despite the material, Kimball Collins does an excellent job at blending the songs he chose into one endless mix which is a good thing. I thought he really did a good job at getting Fathers of Sound's "Water" and Agnelli & Nelson's "El Nino" to sound like one song. If anything I found this mix cd more on the trance side than house as noted on the cd cover. I'm not completely blown away by Kimball's work as a mix dj like I am with George Acosta. Still "Session 1" is a good cd to listen to right before heading out to the clubs on a Saturday night.

        Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Some nice vocal trance music.......2006-11-22

A reasonable collection of vocal trance music. The only 4 songs that really stood out for me were:

        - Accuface - "Pure Energy"
        - Aveda feat. Corrie - "2 Souls"
        - Talla 2xlc - "Carry Me"
        - York feat. Asheni - "Mercury Rising"

A good cd to build one's ultimate vocal trance set.
