Editorial Reviews
From URB Magazine
Thankfully, the sophomore album from London-based duo Freaks (Justin Harris and Luke Solomon) does not find the pair exploring any new ground. This should come as a relief to their many fans, not the least of whom are a number of top house DJs in Europe and America. Instead, they continue to occupy a corner of house music that draws clear influence from electronics (and admittedly, there is a huge sector of the genre that doesn't). Throughout their catalog of releases, '80s electro pop technicians such as Human League and Thomas Dolby as well as harder sounds à la Nitzer Ebb mesh with the strengths of later techno (Orbital, for example) in a sweaty Manhattan nightclub. Said mingling results in this funkier, robotic hybrid of dance.

The combination is well-represented in "Things Just Aren't the Same," where a monotone voice acts as a sort of bass line for the bouncy, tweaked-out melody to skirt around. Joyful vocals are thrown through a mechanized filter to provide the unique hook in the duo's successful "Happy Jus' to See You Again" single. Each cut features tightly programmed layers of dense rhythm and sound which nearly always culminate in an infectious swing. Freaks write memorable songs that never take themselves too seriously, and because of this they have appeal for even casual listeners, in addition to those who pay attention to the craft of music making.

Product Description
'Meanwhile, Back at the Disco' by Freaks (Justin Harris & Luke Solomon) is aimed directly at the dance-floor. 'Doobiedoo' (a tough, jacking groove overlayed with a relentless twisted male scat vocal) is the first single to be taken off the album and has already been described by XLR8R magazine as 'one of the funkiest tracks you'll hear this year'. Already causing quite a stir amongst Freaks supporters DJ Sneak, Josh Wink, Jon Marsh, DJ Q, Doc Martin. Matthew Herbert (the list goes on) - this album looks to join the Freaks hall of fame. (Studio K7)
