Umm...holy shit. This band puts all other bands in this genre to shame. Sooo....The Faceless, As Blood Runs Black, All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence......... All great bands, but MBE is just rediculous.

Wow..thats all I have to say. I'm not huge into this genre, but this just blew me away. Becoming Misfortune is probably my favorite track, the guitars just change the tone of the song so well, and don't get me started on the drums. The double bass is insane. I had heard this bands first release was not so hot, but with the change of vocalist and guitarist that all changed. They didn't fall into the sophomore slump thankfully lol.

My Bitter End's "The Renovation" is a very interesting and technical CD. The work that stands out the most is the guitars, which tend to be more technical than before, especially the intro lead in "The Renovation" and "To All Things Expendable". This band can easily be compared to the likes of bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Glass Casket, The Human Abstract, and so forth, as they are a band that may be considered metalcore/deathcore to some, but if the listener gives them a good listen, it shows that these bands do much to stand out. This CD is a slice of pure talent that deserves to be heard, and if you like a mixture of melody and technicality, "The Renovation" should be in your collection.

      George Olsen's orchestra was really hitting its stride when these sides were recorded. His complex-but-pleasing orchestrations of Broadway and pop tunes played by high caliber musicians well exemplify the care-free spirit and joie de vivre of the "jazz age", 1920s.

      Most of the songs on this CD are happy, upbeat, high-energy performances that have been pleasingly remastered. Olsen's Victor dance recordings were second only to Paul Whiteman's in sales during this period, and they possess a musical vibrancy that was often lacking in the more regimented Whiteman outfit.

      Giving this CD a five-star rating really does not accord these recordings the proper respect that they deserve. If you like 1920s music, then you probably already know how important George Olsen was to this era. This CD (all electrical recordings) and its equally excellent companion, Volume I (mainly acoustic recordings), are vital additions to one's collection of vintage performances.

          In my searches for a band that even comes close to Pink Floyd in the psych vein, these guys are FAR AND AWAY the best of the crop. While not as melodic as Floyd (par for the "let's be PF" wannabees), there is a complete LACK of that which sunk their competition in this chase: A bad vocalist singing dumb, poorly arranged and oft annoying lyrics. This is INSTRUMENTAL all the way less the freaky background voices speaking here and there which provide some nice effects.
          Pink Floyd will never be topped nor probably even matched, but for now, I'm glad to get this!
          Sound quality is high, instrumentation is excellent, the mood moves but doesn't slam thru gears and instead, somewhat smoothly transitions from phase to phase. Track five might be the weak point if there is one - only that it dragged on a few more minutes than I would have let it, but that's why I'm not producing CD's these days.
          Will be chasing down the rest of these while the experiment chugs along - probably soft machine next....
          Oh yeah, if you can get your hands on Pink Floyd's "The Grande Ummagumma Party", it makes an EXCELLENT companion to this disk. Paid $25 for mine and it was the bargain of the year!!!
          Now.....if I can just find a few of those adjustment tools......

          5 out of 5 stars The 'Endless Renovation' of acid-storming psychedelia.......2003-01-08

          Subarachnoid Space's previous releases have been live documents. With "Endless Renovation", the band produced their first properly studio recorded work. The transition from live to studio improvisations resulted in more structured songs, but the mind-blowing quality of Arachnoid's chasm of earth-shattering, scary, exploratory psychedelia fortunatelly remained in that release. The dual assault of the droney, menacing, feedback-drenched acid guitars, combined with the powerfull rhytm section, is outstanding, especially on tracks like "Square Wheels", "Good Grief" and "Stereo Saturation". The last two tracks, with expanded instrumentation, are blended together in a sort of dark spaced-out suite, very trippy stuff. In short: another masterwork from that outstanding band.
