Unfortunate, but very good potential.......2006-05-16

Sophie has a nice voice, it's just a shame that in this album, she barely makes use of it. Untie Me is a collection of poetic love letters, recited by Sophie, under beautiful musical scores by Ives. But as music, roughly three songs from the album feature the singer actually singing. Indeed, it would be possible to random play the songless tracks and, if it weren't for Ives' master soundwork, be difficult to tell them apart.

However, in the pieces where she does sing, the harmony between the two artists truly shines; such is the case for Big Healing, Clouds, and the last part of Awaken.

Bottom line, If they were to ever make another album, and Sophie decided to fully use her vocal talent, I believe the harmony brought forth by their love would be one of the most entrancing pieces in ambient music.

What a wonderful pairing! Homes Ives is a master of creating electronic atmospheres, and these atmospheres are what Sophie's vocals float on. This is music for lucid dreaming, an out of body experience through listening and closing your eyes.

I can play "Awaken" over and over and not get tired of it, I don't want it to end. In fact, I find myself leaving this album on repeat and listening to it over and over, which is quite a compliment because I have so many CDs to choose from.

If you are looking for some good electronic music with soul and emotion, I heartily recommend this CD.

Love at first listen.......2005-09-13

I went to the CD release concert for his second CD, Two Faces, and instantly fell in love with Brian's music. I purchased both of his albums then and there, and started connecting even more strongly with songs from this, his first album. I've decided to choreograph to "Poseidon" this fall, and I hope that the dance can do justice to the maelstrom depicted in the song. In addition to possessing emotionally charged and hypnotic melodies, the lyrics are illustrative and engaging. I've become one of the quiet but growing crowd of Brian Jacobs fans.

This album has it all...great music, emotion, and heart. Music like this doesn't grow on trees, but Untie Me is a true gem and one that you never tire of listening to. Can't wait to order his next album on amazon!

One of a kind.......2001-12-03

The music of Brian Jacobs was one of the key inspirations in spurring me to continue my art. I think that it is an amazing thing when one artist can inspire another to produce. I can not recommend another album or another artist more highly. The display of emotion and talent by this incredible person is something that is rarely seen in music anymore. For these reasons, I suggest listening to Untie Me.

Not only is this CD spectacular, but Brian himself is a marvelous human being. The severe emotion of his piano/vocal collaboration reflects his beauty, inside and out. This CD is not to be written off as any "kind of music" for it is as different from the majority of male fronted music, as it is splendid. Definitely recommended for anyone who has a working heart, and the ability to feel. love ya Bri!

Sounds predictable, annoying.......1999-12-03

I found this while doing a search for Brian Adams. It reminds me of sitting in an elevator listening to boy trying to be Tori Amos. The piano is alright. Do we need more of this kind of music? ... The album cover is kind of weird.
