For the appropriately titled Feng Shui, Orlando, Florida, producer Michael Donaldson attempts to apply the Eastern laws of artistic organization--that everything must have its place--to his music. This makes Q-Burns Abstract Message's full-length debut a more simplistic affair than one would expect from a man who is immersed in club culture as a popular remixer, DJ, and head of the prestigious Eighth Dimension label. The minimal synthesizer motifs give the disc an early-'80s feel, which is amplified by the mechanical vocals on "Feel" and the cover of Faust's "Jennifer," featuring Daniel Agust of Gus Gus on vocals. Donaldson also incorporates some electro influences on "New Patterns" and the funky title track, while Agust reappears on the album's best cut, an absorbing love song sung in Icelandic called "A.S.T." It's an angular and unexpected beginning. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews:
My favorite.......2006-08-10
I ordered this CD over a year ago, and to this day it is the most wonderful music I have ever heard. I highly recommend it.
Music for being Within.......2002-10-04
Quiet, tranquil notes spill from the cd player, easing tensions. Like water running over a stone, gradually, the hard edges are worn away, and you are left feeling smooth and refreshed. The rhythmic flow of the violins, the soothing, bird-like tones of the flute...you feel as though your mind and body are being transported downstream towards a large accepting sea of tranquility.
We use this album a lot to ease down after a tense day, and use it almost every night to lull our six-month-old baby to sleep. She finds it very relaxing as well.
Music to soothe your spirit.......2002-05-31
I added this wonderful CD to my office Feng Shui. I play it, and others like it, throughout the workday to keep me calm and able to handle the stressors in my work environment. I am so pleased with this CD that I will purchase the other Feng Shui titles by the Shanghai Chinese Traditional Orchestra.
Tortoise - Chinese Feng Shui Music.......2001-02-07
You can believe this music releases the energy associated with the element of water because it just flows from your player. From tinkling brooks to hidden mysterious streams to rushing torrents, what ever knots you have formed in your muscles during the day, dissolve in it's eglaic tones. At one point I felt convinced I was hearing the patter of rain outside , got up to check and realized it was still the CD. I practice Chen man Ching's yang style of Tai ji to this and the pacing and mood is excellent. It's wonderful for Qi Quong, for meditation, not intrusive and a definite aid to focusing your awareness, and you'll also think it's a soundtrack to a film you saw long ago..and always remembered.
Wonderful soothing music!.......2000-04-08
My whole family (including 9 and 10-year old children) loves this delicate, soothing music. It is perfect when we arrive from a tiring day, or to settle everyone down before bed. There are many interesting chimes and instruments within the songs. It would also be great to meditate to.

Wonderfull!.......2006-04-26
This is a very good traditional Chinese cd that could be played in the "Emperor's palace". Very elegant music for background, driving, reading, making a video, etc.
I enjoy them and play them often.
Clear Energizing tones.......1999-10-02
Feng shui music promotes balance and harmony through the energy released through music. Using Five element imagery, the music purports to release energy conducive to health, luck and happiness. The Dragon CD is associated with the God of the east and the wood element. Wood supports strategic thinking, new growth, & creative endeavors. The CD's Clear rhythmic melodies help you to stay the course. Suitable for office use- may even support the group's efforts!!
Beautifully soothing.......1998-09-10
this is a wonderful Cd to meditate to or just to relax, read, or clean up to. it is wonderfully calming and eases the mind into a blissful state.

Wonderfully Composed Music.......2007-05-22
I'm quite surprised this isn't more popular. Daniel May has put together and composed some of the most beautiful non-vocal music I've ever heard. This kind of music is perfect for relaxation and calming your mood.
I listen to this when I'm doing work and Tai Chi. This album truly never gets old. Listening to it right now is just as wonderful as the first time.
great work music or Tai Chi.......2007-05-09
Found a great Tai Chi sword form background on this one.
I also use it at work while working on my computer because the music doesn't distract.
Great stuff!
Lovely!!.......2006-12-30
Actually heard this CD in a spa and had to have it! Flowing and peacefully happy music. I recommend it whole heartedly!
Everything I was looking for..........2006-12-09
This is THE BEST relaxation CD that I own! :) I never tire of hearing it. I agree with the other reviewers that stated the Chinese instruments are absolutely amazing. Do yourself a favor and get this CD, turn off the dummy box (TV ;), and entire into a world of pure joyful relaxation. I don't know how this music wouldn't put a smile on someone's face.
Wonderful background music.......2006-12-05
Often when I am studying I will put this CD on in the background. It is calming and incredibly relaxing. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world this is a great way to center oneself. I highly recommend it. A few of the tracks on this CD are very deep and powerful. This CD is perfect for anyone that is high energy and very busy during their waking work hours.

Truly joyful music!.......2002-10-04
This cd features traditional Chinese orchestral music in an arrangement that is uplifting, lilting and full of spirit. This music makes a great contrast to the Tortoise, Chinese Feng Shui Music cd, which is quiet and relaxing. In fact, we use the Tortoise album to help lull our 6-month-old daughter to sleep, but the Phoenix is quite vibrant and lively in contrast. The notes really seem to spark out of the cd and through the room - you can't help but find yourself in a better mood!
As for the Feng Shui, the Phoenix is associated not only with the heart, but also with good conversation and personal interactions, and this cd really does make wonderful background music for when you have company.
Lyrical and light, unobtrusively uplifting.......1999-10-02
This feng shui music is designed to help improve your life through the energy released through music. Following the five element pattern of harmonious living , the Phoenix CD is associated with the element of fire. The music is lively and relaxing and is said to be beneficial for heart and blood circulation. Suitable for use in the office- the music invigorates but is not too loud or overwhelming. Great for keeping you upbeat when a major project or deadline looms.

6 stars!.......2003-05-01
I've never read her books, but now I don't have to! She took the work out of reading and basically reads TO me...what more can a lazy man ask for? Put on your headphones and listen at the beach, your desk, or in bed. Believe it or not, it's even helped me lose weight!
This CD is sweet.......2003-04-30
After years of reading Lillian's books I was quite suprised to hear of a CD. The CD is the ultimate Feng Shui experience. It provides all the knowledge that you would ever need to know as well as music that does nothing but compliment the whole concept.

Beautifull and traditional!.......2006-01-12
I bought many Chinese music cd's but this series is perhaps the BEST I heard so far!
I played it over and over again my first night.
feng shui music.......2000-11-27
This cd, along with the other four in the set, is a pleasant and useful tool for transforming any space into a balanced space. These cds work best when played one after the other in the correct sequence, but they also work well individually. Unlike "subliminal message" recordings, these cds work for everyone, regardless of cultural background. In addition, it is not necessary to understand feng shui theory and practice in order to experience the full benefitsof this series. I play individual cds when I want to. The heart (phoenix) cd is the one I play the most. Nice soundtracks for when life can use a tune-up. Highly recommended, along with a cd player that will play all five cds in order without pause. Also useful for playing around children and pets who are not as balanced as you wish they be. Worth the wait!

Customer Reviews:
Lacks the magic of his prior releases.......2000-04-30
As a fan who loves his Oeuvre cd, and gives that a 5 out of 5, this cd is shockingly disappointing. In Oeuvre he manages to take quirky loops and make them hooks with excellent backing music. This has the same formula, but no success. "He's a skull" starts off decent, until the vocal sample "he's a skull" comes in. The track "Jennifer" is cringe-worthy, and the rest of the cd ranges from medicore house to interesting, but not compelling listening. Q-burns has the talent to make great music, but this doesn't really show it. Stick to his Oeuvre or Hawke's "Namaquadisco."
Mind Blowing.......1999-09-16
Q Burns captures something within the aesthic of his music . . . something that truly has a hold of me. The album is wonderfully crafted from start to finish. Tracks such as "He's a Skull," "Solar Car," "Leela," and "Feel" (to name a few) are absolutely extraordinary as is the rest of the album!!! A must have in your CD collection!!
lush..........1999-09-06
dreamy...intelligent...moving...intoxicating...GORGEOUS!
buy it. play it. live long and prosper.
Many "okay" songs with a few very precious beauties.......1998-12-14
I did not like this album as much as his collection of singles ("Oeuvre, on 8th Dimension records) released in the summer of '98, but I still liked it fine. The 3rd and 5th tracks on this album are absolutely stunning. The 3rd is a most lovlely remake of a Faust song on which Q-Burn enlists the help of Daniel Agust and the rest of Gus Gus. The 1st track is pretty fun, as is the rest of the CD. Other than the 3rd and 5th tracks it is nothing to drop dead over, but it grows on you.

I could listen to this CD all day long and never tire of it. It's so soothing and the melodies stay in my head all day. Highly recommended!
Feng Shui The Eight Fold Path.......2006-02-18
This Cd is by far the best I have heard in my life. It is a must have. Every song is awesome. My favorite is #3 Right Livelihood. This is his best Cd by far. Love God, Live happy , Feng Shui yourself and your house.
WELL DONE!.......2005-08-17
THIS HARMONIOUS MUSIC IS A PERFECT ACCOMPANIMENT OT THE PRACTICE OF FENG SHUI. I AM PARTICULARLY GRATIFIED TO SEE FENG SHUI BROUGHT TO ITS PROPER SPIRTUAL LEVEL IN THIS CD.WELL DONE!
Excellent for Meditation.......2005-01-19
This cd is a total delight musically, the tracks are carefully selected and thematic. When I sit on the zafu for home practice of zazen, I will sometimes pop this in as a way of blocking out noises in the other areas of my home. It's unassuming and vastly relaxing, helping to form a sense of spaciousness as you sit. If you listen to music of this caliber consistently, you almost certainly will begin to notice a real change in your attitude toward life. Not that meditation is really about comfortable feelings (much more about life as it is, things just as they are). But this is life "as it is" in one of it's more enjoyable phases.
I also listen to this while I'm at work on the computer, and it's during these times I reminiscence of childhood emotion; it's somewhat hard to put into words what I mean by that, for it's not public (my experience). But the point is that this music is evocatively emotional and poignant, and it will be sure to move anyone who is in earshot of it`s authority. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying music such as this, it's basically food for our bodies and mind. It is as though a liquid bliss has passed through your pores and enveloped your very being, helping to goad you toward a clarity in life. Music of this scope is really uncommon, although I hope all beings will be fortunate enough to encounter it!
This one is a no-brainer, so go for it.
Nice background music for Yoga.......2004-10-19
Chinmaya Dunster's music has been a favorite of mine for my Yoga classes. Check out Yoga on Sacred grounds, for example. Feng Shui starts with Rigth Mindfulness - a poignant piece of music that conveys the picture of steadiness as of a series of mountains in the sight of a viewer. Somehow, this track reminds me of the past; as we go through the postures I think back or brood a bit. Rigth Views reminds you of the springtime or freshness as the insert describes. The pace, as with the first track, is ideal for most of the asanas. The next track Right Livelihood opens with a somewhat distracting chant and is supposedly of the wind. This track is great as one proceeds deeper into the asana session. Right Samadhi has a beautiful accompaniment of the bamboo flute, but you may not want to practice Shavasan during this track. Right Morality is about receptivity; it also has an air of freshness to it as it starts. The guitar and violin compete equally for your attention. The Right Effort starts with a native chant and reminds you of nature with the melodious penny whistle and flute bringing life to the tune. Right speech brings the message of connectedness, rhythm and melody; once again parts of it make you reflect. Right Intention, like Right Views, opens with a fresh native song. The flute is spring-like and most beautiful here. Wow, nice background music for a Yoga class. I will look for more Chinmaya Dunster music for my Yoga classes.
By the way, outside of a Yoga class the music is great to relax and reflect. Nice, nice, nice...
