My husband heard a clip on the radio and he asked me to do a search. I could only find little snippets but I was curious. I went ahead and bought both albums and they sound awesome. Its just different from whats being played on the radio. This is the kind of music I would play at a dinner party (not a formal one). If you like music thats just different, this would be the way to go!

Michael Ramos - the man behind Charanga Cakewalk - is a talented musician and producer who incorporates elements of cumbia, Latin percussions, and traditional Mexican grooves into dynamic cutting-edge electronica. Lotería de la Cumbia Lounge features 13 cuts that shift from the acoustic sounds of Spanish guitars, cellos, and accordions, to the spicy electronic pulses of the keyboards, creating the feel of a funky Latin lounge. This music is, I dare say, what a mix of Juana Molina, Kinky, and Aterciopelados would probably sound like. Sort of. To decide for yourself, check out "La Negra Celina," a groovy electronica-infused Colombian cumbia.

Man, is this a winner! A nice updated contemporary loungy Cumbia, at times with echos of 50s & 60s Cha Cha and at other times sounding slightly of Manu Chau, but truly unique all the same. Great soundtrack for art openings, funky retail joints and eateries, galleries, your living room, your car, anywhere. Just buy it, you'll never want to take it out of your CD player... .

Good chill tracks. I have all the other Buddha lounge CDs as well as Arabic Lounge, whe something works stick with it. Ilike this CD for warm up, Yoga, Pilates, stretching. Also good to chill to very calming rythems.

This is an interesting one, that is sort of outside my normal frame of reference. My girlfriend and I were in a "new-agey" store while on a road trip, and we were both sort of intrigued in the music that was playing, which turned out to be this album. I would consider this disc a combination of two genres of music which I am actually rather unfamiliar with-techno and world music. It actually comes together quite well; most of the selections on this compilation are somewhat obscure(to me, anyway) european trance or house DJs (again, I'm going to have to cite unfamiliarity with the current "hip" slang on this subject(*snicker*)which incorporate world music and chanting (in Arabic?) into undeniably modern drum beats and synth programming. There is also a fair amount of briefly-phrased but very melodic electric guitar reminiscent of Buckethead's "Electric Tears" or "Colma" albums...quite a soothing combination, although I could have done without one track, which is sung in French. Excellent music for just relaxing with friends or a glass of wine.

I was so pleased to see this top compilation series continue with even more great selections. Helen Horlyck's atmospheric vocals and J. Gad of Enigma fame on their track Cape Porcupine, is a great way to introduce this excellent collection of mood music. TYA shares an exotic atmosphere on Why. One And Twain by Ginkgo Garden is spatial and measured as Mueller-Key adds a melodic story. Touche' by TAU adds an inspired French groove. Samah livens up the grouping with Kilada's Arabic/Afro beat & vocals. Bhajya Sahita by Hands Upon the Black Earth has gentle vocals by Renee Petry along with a light-hearted beat by Bobby Cochran. The Gordon Brothers added one of my favorite tracks of theirs, with a club-remix of Empowered, giving a North American contemporary beat; as well with Descent to the Lowerworld, where the brothers always take me on a rewarding venture into deep Shamanic landscapes. Mangoville by David Gordon brings a gentle and instrumental track, which lends a joyful, lazy summer-like feel. With Northern Lights by Stella Maris, this obviously multi-talented group demonstrates their special brand of mystery-pop in both their vocals and melodies. The entrancing American group, the Moontrane Conductors, brings a wide multiplicity of soothing sounds with their In for the Night. Jaya Lakshmi & Deva Priyo hook up to weave together a Sanskrit chant into a rhythmic sway with a contemporary reward in Hamana Nale. And last but not least, Abraham Schenk wields a way among the electric in Sky Walk, which graces the end of this entrancing and soothing album. All together, this album has provided me with many soothing hours of aural enjoyment, and served as easy background music, when I have entertained friends. Keep it up Gordon Brothers, your Buddha series is perfect!

Each Buddha-Lounge just keeps getting better. While I love them all, number four is by far my fav! It opens with a track from ACHILLEA which is the new project from Jens Gad, co-producer and guitarist from ENIGMA, then continues with fantastic tracks from many top European artists such as Tya, Stella Maris and gems from underground US beatmasters such as The Moontrane Conductors and Hands Upon Black Earth plus world artists such as renowned Egyptian vocalist Nassar Kilada. The level of quality on this set is among the highest out there. I love putting this on for late night rendezvous!

not sure what this volume 4 is trying to achieve, but me thinks that if you take all 4 volumes and actually pick through the songs you might salvage one decent record...ughhhhh listen at your own risk!

Buy this CD ...you'll love it. Anyone who thinks all Percy Faith recordings are "elevator music" should listen to Brazil. From the first track, it would blow the doors off the elevator and set everyone inside to rocking to the rhythm. The orchestra never sounded better... especially the brass. I can't imagine anyone listening to this album without having his or her spirits lifted... it's truly exuberant. The second album on this two-fer is lush Percy Faith at his best. Shangri-la will carry you away on wings of strings. It's been one of my favorite LP's.... but vinyl, for all its authenticity, does not have the fidelity that this CD offers. Sony did a fine job in putting these albums on CD. Bravo Sony! but more than that Bravo Percy Faith and the magnificent musicians in the orchestra!

5 out of 5 stars "Brazil & Shangri-La is the best of the best ~ Percy Faith".......2003-06-28

When you hear strings running the scales and counter melodies blending with that unmistakable style "Percy Faith Touch", you know in an instant you're in for the best of the best. Duke Ellington was so taken with Faith's arrangements, that he was would give anything to able to arrange in that fashion.

The two albums from the '60s that left such an impression on me are the two inclusive "Music of Brazil!" and "Shangri-La!", both favorites within my vast collection of Mr. Faith's career. Each and every tune is take with tender loving care in arrangements, performance and most of all the love of the project. Take for instance the fact that this Canadian loved Latin Music and it showed. Much like the ultimate Latin album "Malaguena:Music of Cuba", originally released in 1969, the excitement and color from Faith's awesome arrangements is long famous in orchestration and arranging Cuba and Latin-American melodies. For the listener it is enormously invigorating and rewarding, each cue is able to soar into infinity. There isn't another composer/arranger/musician that I know of that had this talent in all three categories.

Many highlights ~ "BRAZIL", "TU SABES", "BAIA", "LITTLE DREAMER" and of course the one that started it all "DELICADO", remember when this was released and made the charts, with the harpsichord resounding.

The opening track "SHANGRI-LA", is perfection within the realm of lush-arranging, so flawless ~ "STRANGER IN PARADISE", another example of the "Faith Touch", so effortless, you feel like you're floating on a cloud ~ "SONG OF INDIA", always a favorite of mine, as you travel the strings keep drawing you nearer and nearer, beautiful adaptation by Mr. Faith ~ "THE MOON OF MANAKOORA", can almost hear the ocean waves upon the beach, with the moon romantically peeking behind the clouds in the nights sky.
Highly recommend to ALL fans of Percy Faith, thank you Collectables for releasing this collection from the vaults of Columbia Records ~ so listeners sit back, enjoy and enjoy a small part of Maestro Percy Faith fabulous career!

Shangri-la is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard.This album rates up there with American Seranade which I hope Collectibles will reissiue.Shangri la features songs from Asia and the Orient.All songs are just with the orchestra although on a few of them the womens wordless chrous is evident especially on Shangri-la.All songs on this album are very lush.I don't care about Music of Brazil although it has some good songs on it,because I have the imported cd Viva/Music of Brazil from the Uk.If you don't have viva. I also recomend this title.It has music of mexico.Liner notes for both Shangri la and The Music of Brazil are included here.Once again just as with the other Percy Faith reissues collectibles released, most of these songs by Faith are on cd for the first time.No arranger could conduct music like Percy Faith with the exception of Mantovani who I also have on a lot of cds.If you like beautiful music this cd should be in your collection.

This CD contains contains Mancini's Beaver Valley Suite. In this Suite, he "writes" of his childhood in a steel town. Anyone who grew up in a mill town will immediately identify with the images created by the music. This has to be Mancini at his best. There are six more original pieces (tracks 6 through 11) that showcase Henry Mancini's unique ability of giving joy to others while doing something that he truly enjoys. I have all of these pieces on the LP, Debut. I have been looking for them on CD for years. I am listening to the CD as I write this review. As the sleeve says, it "presents a quality of sound superior to the original vinyl album."

    Mix up some mojito's, set out some tapas, invite all your friends over to play canasta, and let this play! I originally bought this in 1997 for my then boyfriend. But we broke up before I could give it to him. Thank goodness we did. I love it, my kids love it, even my cat! No kidding! When the cat hears Chiquito playing, he comes running! This is one album your collection NEEDS! Word has that Dee Dee and Her Panchos: "Pancho" was actually co-written by David Bowie for a Euro TV show!

    Don't forget to hunt down another CD called "Crazy Cocktail Party".

    Yes this cd is perfect for the Office, Coffee House, perhaps even an upgrade for boring elevator music! Most of the CD is conga type music however there are a few mellow Bossa Nova ballads that are still just as fun.

    I chose to review this CD only because out of all the music I own, this CD is the only one with a story. I work in a coffee house where we play this type of music regularly. I brought this CD in to play without knowing what the general content of the cd would be. After the first song however, we were hooked! It wasn't until the second song that we decided we not only loved this cd, but couldn't stop laughing to the one line lyric to "Chiquito". Whoever is shouting out 'Chiquito' in that song made every single customer turn with a jerk and the crew collapse on the floor from laughter! We can't be without this CD, it's too precious to us!
