Customer Reviews:
Nicely laid back blend of reggae, soul, hip-hop and jazz..........2005-04-29
This album is a nicely laid back blend of reggae, soul, hip-hop and jazz. I would best describe them as a mellow Funkedelic. They can also get into a real nice groove like Funkedelic does too. Very unique band...how many hip-hop artists do you know that cover Mose Allison and Frank Zappa while sampling Charles Mingus and Mel Brooks? Plus they creatively utilize instruments such as violin, trumpet, turntables and a sitar!
My favorite tracks are the very soulful "Swim", the Miles Davis meets George Clinton like "Toes" and the cover of one of my favorite Zappa tunes "Muffin Man". This Papa's Culture CD was released by Elektra in 1993 and sadly it the only the CD they ever released.
Band on the loose.......2004-05-08
This is a blend of POP,REGGAE,SKA,DUB,RAP,FUNK music. All yuou need is some kind of fabulous car to bring you higher. This uncategorizable music is hard to find. The reason why I got this CD is that they covered the MOSE ALLISON'S song ,TOP 40.Their interpretation is put a new light on the original song. This campy feeling in this CD is something that we cannot find these days.Unless you can dive in this campy sound ship, you have to swim by yourself all the way to the gates of delirium. Not a POP band, but a COMICAL,DELIRIOUS BAND.
