Classic Latin tracks.......2006-11-23

Take a trip back in time with this CD. I particularly recognize "Viva Tirado" by El Chicano -- I bought that Top 40 45 rpm record in 1970, not to mention "Soul Bossa Nova" by Quincy Jones, which I first heard as a sample in a song on an alternative compilation back in 1991 (the song was "My Definition" by Dream Warriors) and heard again in the Austin Powers movie. Other songs also sound like they come from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. This is probably a great compilation if you like music from that era. With tracks from Tito Puente, James Brown, Sergio Mendes & the Brasil '66, and Jorge Ben, you get a sampling of classic Latin tracks. Since I'm not a big fan of the music, I can't judge how good a compilation of such music that it is, but certainly I would think it's a good place to start if this is what you're looking for.

i'm from chile and i bought this cd on march 2002(when i was in chile) 'cause of his participation in the festival Vina del mar, where he had an incredible success thanks to the lirycs and his powerfull songs about his live in chile and swedden.
now i live in Los Angeles, CA. U.S.A, and my roommates loves this cd, 'cause they like the latin hip hop he makes, so i realise that dj. mendez is a singer who with this very good album can have success in america like he had in europe and latinamerica including chile, 'cause the people in chile didn't know him until august 2001 when he arrived to chile for first time since he left the country when he was a child.
well, as a sumary... latino for life is an album for all the people who likes different kind of music and people who likes the mix latin and hip-hop.

Among the many latino artists there are, finally there is one that really stands out as original and chilean at the same time! Unless you dont like hip-hop or hispanic music, you HAVE to get this CD. This is real party music. It mixes pop, merengue, salsa, hip hop, and techno in a way no musician had before. What's the bad part? .... I'm still trying to find one.

WOW... I had never heard of this guy until one of my friends had me listen to one of his songs in her car. I am a big rap and house music fan, and i am really digging this record. Its one of those CDs where you like every song on it/or every song is just plain good (yes, i know, they are very hard to come by nowadays.) GET THIS RECORD!

I first heard the song "House Party" while in Norway this past summer, and I loved it from the first time I heard it. I could kick myself for not buying the CD in Norway because I had no idea then that this guy is virtually unheard of in the U.S., so I had to pay a lot more money to get it shipped from overseas. His music is incredible--a mixture of rap and song, English and Spanish--fun, fun music. I've played it for friends here in California, and latinos are always astounded that they've never encountered his music before and want to know where to buy it.

I thought that this would be a great mix of Urban Latino, salsa meets R&B.

How wrong I was.

Awful CD - random music - a lot of it with no lyrics and no outstanding latino style - more a combination of random world music - fine if that's what you want, but not at all what it's name suggestst.

Definately not worth buying.

Latin house music of the highest order! If you like your house deep, funky & percussive then this will not dissappoint! I have refrained from giving it 5 stars as it does not contain anything by Negrocan. This is one intense joy ride that never lets up!
