4 out of 5 stars Another Great Mixed Up Set by Patrick Forge.......2005-02-02

The Da Lata/Batu and broken beat man came out with his third Trust the DJ set in late 2003 it certainly lived up to expectations! Patrick Forge is a sensational Dj out of London that's also involved with a few other great projects, the most notable one being Da Lata. Following an artist like Patrick Forge tells you just how small the world of musicians is and if you're a fan of the Bugz, Phil Asher, Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby, Michael Reinboth, Nicola Conte, etc., you know what I mean.

PF03 starts off with a dreamy ambient track by Lonesome Echo Production - nice flute, neat rhythm and feel. It reminds me of Los Ladrones "La Septima Ola". But that's as easy going as this cd gets, picking up immediately with a Tom & Julie (Thomas Naim of Tom & Joyce, and Julie Dexter) track, which you can also find on a great comp titled Bossa Mundo II. It's got synth, a nice beat, harmony. The mixin' after that track is great though and you have that neat beat and soulful flavor in the remix to Reel People's "Second Guess". Those aren't the only cuts that kick - check out the Da Lata Remix to Gabin's "Azul Anil". It's got the Da Lata twinge, neat keys and a MAD trippy feel with the broken beats. Then towards the close is Jazzinho's "Yambou" remixed by Phil Asher aka Restless Soul. I didn't necessarily dig all the vocals in that track but the beat and feel is pure bliss... it reminds me of Sergio Mendes's "Oceano" & I just wish Gracinha did the vocal to it - although I dig Guida De Palma's voice on pretty much every other song on their album.

All in all, I recommend this. I'm biased towards Forge's collection's anyways. But this one was also pretty cool. It wasn't without a misstep or two. I wasn't a fan of Da Lata's sophomore album, "Serious" adn even the title track seems too forced, although it fits in with the beat. Also, I dig "Give in To Me" by Shade of Soul but 4Hero's remix is definitely the better version - although I do respect the original. And "Yambou" didn't really mix well with "Feel it Out". Sorta like playing Timbalada during a snowstorm in the Yukon. But none of this is enough to warrant passing it up altogether. And IMO it is a bit better than PF02 (even with "I Am With You")... but NOT as high up there as PF01. If you dig this, be sure to check out his other Trust the DJ cd's, Jazzinho's import, 4 Hero's remix album, Phil Asher's PA01 and plenty of material from Gilles Peterson.

        5 out of 5 stars wow.......2004-02-18

Excellent stuff...It's been in my rotation for weeks...some real dance tunes and a wonderful eclectic mix. Better than PF02...PF01 and PF03 are my favorites out of the Trust the Dj series...These are like the Gilles Petersen series, but more uptempo. Don't hesitate, pick one up.
