More, more and so much more Tom Jones.......2007-04-13

Wow! What a collection. It is fabulous and highlights very well, Tom's career.This 4CD set comprises his hits, rarer tracks and many covers - all with the Tom Jones 'oomph'. A must for any Tom Jones fan to add to your collection. Great reading as well - now that helps explain the price tag although I must admit to waiting a while to purchase an absolute bargain, however well worth the price tag at full price, 93, yes 93 tracks. I guess the only downside to this collection is the non inclusion of his country hits but don't let that stop you grabbing this one.

This is a complete box set for collector's and fans. All killer, no filler. This isn't a cheap product, nor is it a cheap price. But if you like Tom Jones, then you want this. Remasters of many songs that he did that hit the charts, they weren't top 40, but you still liked them. This is a must have, because they don't play these songs on the radio anymore. If you want to hear it, you have to buy it.

Best Complilation Yet For Legendary Performer.......2006-08-02

Tom Jones compilation discs are too numerous to mention. Most of them deal with specific genres or types of songs the grammy winning pop star recorded, be it country songs, romantic ballads, live concert sets, and a multitude of collecions highlighting his Top40 hits in the US and UK. This collection, a 3 CD box set complete with extensive liner notes, rare photos, and an interview with the singer, is by far the most comprehensive treatment his four decades long career has recieved.

The songs are largely in chronolgical order of orignal release, starting with the very first single Jones ever recorded, nearly a year before his trademark "It's Not Unusual" put him on the map in both England and the states. The first two discs focus mainly on Jones recordings from his "prime period", 1965-1971 when he enjoyed the bulk of his commercial success. Plenty of album cuts (mix of original songs and remakes) and occassional live cuts surround a collection of nearly every notable hit single the singer had in his heyday. US million sellers such as "She's A Lady", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", and "Without Love (There Is Nothing)", along with other notable hits such as "Green, Green Grass Of Home", "Delilah", "Help Yourself", etc are all included. There's a handful of lesser known songs from the mid 70's when Jones career was slowing down that are not often available on CD. The third CD picks up with Jones re-emergence in 1987 and follows him through his more recent work, which while not as well known in the US as his 60's output, has garnered high critical acclaim. If nothing else, the third disc shows Jones versatility is alive and well and his voice has held up extremely well also.

The only thing missing is Jones Nashville years, when he focused on country oriented material in the late 70's through mid 80's. Jones scored multiple Top 20 hits on the US Country Charts during that time, highlighted by 1977's "Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow" which topped the country chart and hit #15 on Billboard's Hot 100. No explanation is given as to why this significant period of recordings is ignored, unusual given that Jones affection for country oriented material dates back to the early days of his career, especially with 60's singles like "Detroit City" and album cuts he recorded such as Willie Nelson's "Funny How Tme Slips Away", both of which are featured here.

One thing about Tom Jones, he has tried his unmistakably identifiable voice on almost every genre of music, hard rock, heavy metal, pre rock era standards, Broadway show tunes, adult contemporary pop, country, and this collection, despite a few noteworthy ommisions, captures the best of all of them. For the price, this is a very good overview of the singer's career and shows that there is much more to Tom Jones than his Vegas showman persona would seem to indicate.

I got this collection for Christmas and I was thrilled!!!! It is absolutely awesome. What an amazing career he has had. I love how it ranges from 1964-2002 because it features the best of all his songs. I wasn't sure if I would like all the songs and boy was I wrong. This set turned me into an even bigger Tom Jones fan, which I didn't think was possible! This is a no brainer for all the Tom Jones fans out there. The book on the inside is wonderful too because it has a ton of wonderful pictures and it is fantastic to read about his career. This set is 100% perfect and I wouldn't change a thing!!!

ANTBOX is a great collection of early Ant demos and unreleased stuff (mixed with the obligatory hit singles).

The first disk is a revalation for most Ant fans as most of the material has never been isssued before. Disk two is a great mix of rarities (A.N.T.S. anyone?) and has a bunch of great Friend Or Foe era outtakes. As for as Disk three is goes there's only a handful of rare items and as far as the Manners/Wonderful period goes we're deined anything besides the album tracks that were issued as singles. Which, if you're a fan, you already have and don't need again.There are no demos, live tracks or outtakes from these periods on ANTBOX which is odd because they're all over the internet. So it's not like they don't exist.

This all makes for a frustrating box set and hopefully rarites from this period will surface on another collection sometime in the future. A good box set for folks who don't mind their collections to overlap yet again with previously released material.

It's not often you find a band that so thoroughly revisits it's history and with such humor. The only thing that could have made this compilation better would have been the inclusion of music videos. There are not a lot of sources out there for information about the history of the band, so the booklet that comes with these albums is worth it's weight in proverbial gold. And if word of the band was rare, pictures are rarer still, so the candid shots included are great fun.

All in all this collection allows you to hear Antmusic in the proper context and with the permission of it's actual creators, so you know it's good.

Excellent, worth every penny.......2005-01-21

Back in high school, I fell in love with Antmusic. It was like rebellion from normalcy and I grabbed on for the ride. 20 plus years later, I still want to grab on for the ride. This box rocks. The best part about the collection is the different versions of the original songs. There are two versions of a couple of songs such as "Stand and Deliver". In a couple of cases, I actually liked the demo better than the recorded song. "Friend or foe", for example, the demo is better to me. If you are an ant fan, this is a must have. My 3 kids, 8 and under, love the songs, too. My 3 year old can sing "Stand and Deliver" - it is adorable. Let's face it, there is no one that compares to the original sound of Antmusic. {If Adam Ant reads this stuff, record another album!! - the music industry now is so boring. . .}

Absolutely LOVE IT!.......2005-01-04

Well it took about 14 days to get to me, and with much anticipation, I put it in my BOSE car audio system, and BOOM there I was back in the early 80's with ADAM and MARCO!!! I absolutely love this collection, even the quirky A.N.T.S. makes me smile! If you are a FAN, this is a MUST. If you would like to know what the new romantic music movement was all about, pick this up! The DEMO versions on here are worth the cost of this collection and then some! Thank you SONY, now How about the DVD release of ANTVIDEO in AMERICA????

This is a fabulous collection, all these tracks were hand picked by Adam and Marco not some studio executives. You get album versions, single versions, demos and unreleased songs this set is simply marvelous going back to the old punk days of the Ants and into the most recent release by these amazing songwriters. I could listen to this set forever.
Now if only we could ever get Persuasion released....

I must say the only bad part would have to be:
Since it was out in 2003, 2004+2005 tracks were cut off
But hey, It's easier buying those than his WHOLE career

The Singles A.K.A. The Best Of Eminem.......2004-05-03

This is basically a best of Eminem album. Except it is in single release format. Which means there's 3-4 songs per CD with 1 or 2 videos (11 CDs in total) and some a cappellas and instrumentals mixed in. It's a nifty buy if you want to add to your Eminem collection. It's very rare to find. (Ironically I found 1 copy at Best Buy at $75) It has a couple studio versions of songs you cannot find no where else. Such as "Bump Heads" and "Wanksta (Eminem's Version)." The only thing I don't like is that they could've put this whole release on 2-3 CDs and marked it down to $30-$35. Because you're basically paying $75 for the 11 CDs and $2 per song. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars. All-in-all though, a nice buy if you willing to spend the money.

it's good, but not that good. it doesn't include the single "Just Don't Give A F***" and also it doen't include al songs from the singles (at least not from all the import versions). It does include an unpublished cover of the song "Wanksta" From 50 Cent. If you're a real eminem fan, you can buy it. It beats ordering al the Import singles.

I had expected more from this set, but it's a joke. What's the deal with all of the CD's with only a couple of songs on them?? What a pain. Eminem is Thug music at it's finest, but this set is a rip off. Wait for the Greatest Hits cd--you'll be better off.

The Beginning of a New Era..........2006-07-14

I had stepped into the Matthew Good Band because of the Stateside release of their popular (in Canada) "Beautiful Midnight". The incredible rock populated with Matt's presence both vocally and lyrically really left me without a clue as to where their following albums would go. Because of Matt's intentionally poor presence in the US, I didn't pick up on this album until a few months before Avalanche came out in early 2003, both of which (and all subsequent albums since then) I've had to import.

The album art sort of takes you off-guard, but that's merely the beginning. Page after page reveals colorful science book illustrations of various scientific concepts, such as Earth's core structure and as the cover reveals, the water cycle. These first few pages, a far cry from the generic garage band-style photos of "Beautiful Midnight" represent the point of no return: the beginning of Matthew Good's subsequent era in music.

Before working on this album, Matt underwent vocal cord surgery and recovered slowly in a hotel in Whistler, BC, while taking prescription painkillers. It was here where he wrote the twisted lyrics that would eventually see the light. He swore off smoking and adopted some incredible production values. His new soaring vocals and new backup choirs almost disarm you from beginning to end.

More of a "follow the white rabbit" than anything, this musical journey pushes you in and out of what is truly a terrifying and melancholy experience. "Advertising on Police Cars", "Tripoli" and "Under the Influence" only cement the demented pathway that this album ferries you along.

After a thorough listen, you'll experience a thorough paradigm shift of Matthew Good's musicology that becomes his trademark in all subsequent albums. The harder-rocking tracks almost exist as an obligation so you don't drown in the murk. And while none of them provide the same hits that, say "Hello Time Bomb" did on "Beautiful Midnight", that's really not what you're here for. A track that could've potentially filled that role, "Pony Boy" was released as a B-side and was also put on the "In A Coma" compilation. It's easy to see why it didn't fit.

While not as trendy as their previous albums, you can see Matt really wanted to get out on his own as this was the last effort of the Matthew Good Band before their dissolution. The next few albums serve as an almost pure siphon of Matthew Good-ness (yuckle!). If you start with Matthew Good solo, this is where he started. If you start with Matthew Good band, this is where it ends.

A fantastic crossroads for one of the greatest musicians in play today.

It's a shame that this was their last album. Any hardcore MGB fan such as myself loved this album, and wish they could've done more.
Dave Genn, the great guitar player who plays solos so well, not even the greatest air guitarist can imitate! He kicks off the album opener, "Man of Action," with eerie chords before Rich Priske & Ian Browne blast in with their bass & drums. Lyrically, this track appears to be about Matt's late father ("this world it wore him out").
Rich takes over the next two tracks with powerful bass intros to the first single, "Carmelina", and "Tripoli," which is mostly comprised of Matt's Internet manifestos, as is the eerie look into the future on "Advertising on Police Cars."
Matt gets mellow on the acoustic "I, The Throw Away," and a song that should be the next Strange Days: "Truffle Pigs," which consists of Matt's best vocal tracks.
"Under The Influence" and "Anti-pop" are two of my favourite songs on the album, the latter of which will be a huge single for MGB. A very catchy song with lots of "do-do-do's" and kids chanting "let's get this party started!" "Under The Influence" is a pounding, anthemic tune where Matt reminisces on his youth (Just wanna be like we used to").
"The Workers Sing A Song Of Mass Production" is another great example of musicianship combined with great lyrics. Dave, with his piercing guitar intro before Rich & Ian bring in the rhythm section, not to mention great lyrics from Matt, like "life's a dirty business, so be a prick and do it while the world's awake."

Amazing - one of the best.......2005-06-25

This cd really is amazing. When I first listened to it, it sounded like an average cd with some off-beat tunes. Eventually, however, it grew on me. This is the type of music that I can listen to when I'm tired, bored, happy, sad, pretty much whenever - something that can't be said about many albums. Each and every song on this album is unique, and MGB never stops to amaze you with wonderful lyrics and subtle yet breath-taking tunes. This is the type of album that someone cannot truly enjoy until he/she has listened to it at least 10 times - at least that was true to me. Everytime I play this album it seems to sound better and better. This album is usually one of the first ones I rush to when opening my music folder. The truly wonderful element of this album, IMO, is that it is very original, yet does not stray too far away from mainstream type music. People that listen to all different types of music could enjoy this album. What I mean is that its not as hard to grasp as other albums like Radiohead's "OK Computer" and A Perfect Circle's "Thirteen Steps". Those two other albums are supposedly awesome as well, but it takes a lot longer to get use to it(for me at least, i still havent gotten use to it, but then I dont listen to it enough) - however, with "Audio of Being", it seems to grasp the listener much faster. Matthew Good also doesnt try to overdo anything, its just very subtle yet amazing music. This is currently one of my favorite albums. My favorite songs(I enjoy all of them, i really do, not just saying that to make this album sound better):

What a deal!.......2005-11-15

What a deal. You get the very best of the worlds greatest rock and roll band Aerosmithat the height of their carear in the 1970's and a classic live album of the band from the 1980's and all together for a pretty low price, what a deal!

This is Aerosmiths great hits from 1973-1987 (not 1988!!!) and you get it all. 'Dream On' 'Walk This Way' 'Let The Music Do The Talkin' its all here. Every song on the album is a classic. The original greatest hits left off over half of these songs. No 'Let The Music Do The Talkin' 'Mama Kin' 'Lightening Strikes' (even though it wasnt really a big hit). And it also had poor edits on 'Kings And Queens' and 'Sweet Emotion' cutting off the classic intros and killer jams at the ends of the songs. Well this version still does that but it is still good.

Aerosmiths Classics Live is also included here. While this is not one of Aerosmtihs best live recordings its still a Aerosmith classic and is essential to all Aerosmith and rock and roll collections. Some songs were recorded with Joe Perry and Brad Whitford and some are with out and have Rick Dufey and Jimmy Crespo playing guitar, while that is my biggest complaint because Joe Perry is my hero and I dont think you can have Aerosmtih with out Brad Whitford and certainly not without Joe Perry, as I am sure most will agree. My other small complaint is these are bad selections, I mean Steven is really high and the band isnt really tight, they could have been better but they were all high or drunk or both. But these small problems dont bother me too much because I still think this is a great live album from Aerosmith.

So to conclude this is a great deal you get Aerosmtihs best and Aerosmith live, for the average fan you couldnt want more, but as a hardcore fan like myself I must recomend to you that you buy all the bands albums as they are all truly fantastic with the exception of Rock And A Hard Place, which is still pretty good in itself.

A Special Collector's Box Package that Includes Ant's Formal Solo Album CDs ("Friend Or Foe", "Strip" and "Vive Le Rock") as Well as Space for the First Three Reissues of Adam and the Ants Albums (Which Must Be Purchased Separately). The Real Bonus Here is the Includsion of a 15-track Bonus Disc Entitled "Redux", featuring Rare Demo Tracks from the Original Recording Sessions of the Six Remastered Albums. Among These Tracks is a Cover of Marc Bolan's "Dandy in the Underworld". The Package also features 2005 Penned Liner Notes and a Career Overview from Both Adam Ant and Marco Pirroni. The Set was Compiled by Marco Pirroni and Andy Vaughan with Art Direction by Mark Alleyne. The Recordings were Mastered by Andy Pierce at Masterpiece.

Fantastic Box Set for the Ant connoisseur.......2006-04-24

If you are a fan of Adam Ant you will love this box set.
The set includes Friend Or Foe, Strip, Vive Le Rock and Redux (a bonus album of previously unissued demos). All of which contain many bonus tracks. It cleverly contains a space for the Dirk, Kings & Prince LP remasters as well (sold seperately). However it contains none of the B-Sides (also a must!) or Non-Album A-Sides. That must be remedied some time in the future.

Dirk Weats White Sox contains all of the Do It Records material (The B-Sides EP/The Antmusic EP/Dirk/the singles & their b-sides). It's the only remaster containing any B-Sides.

However this will please any Ant fan as it's a definitive release and simply a must have!

I am a proud and happy owner of the 'Adam Ant Remastered collection'. I like Adam since I was a highschool student. When I heard this, I understood why I loved Adam and his music. Adam and Maruco have good imaginations. Their music like the cinema. Each of songs has its paticular world. I enjoyed it as if I was in the movie theater. All songs are so attractive. I especially like 'Jolly Roger' and 'Five Guns West'.

where are the b-sides ?.......2005-09-28

If you are planning to buy the boxset i assume you're an ant-fan and you know what you're looking for.
Much more interesting, or rather disturbing is, i think, that the package (and the three first remastered albums) contain a lot of demoversions I actually can do without. Why not include all the b-sides instead ? They would have made this collection definitive for me. Now I own a boxset and still don't have 'deutscher girls', 'plastic surgery' , 'beat my guest' , christian dior , etc... included. I think that's a big shame on a collection that is obviously put together with love and care.

Superstar in a Box.......2005-08-09

This box set is the ultimate gift for someone that knows and loves Adam Ant or never heard of him. It's like the life of a superstar. The cds are good quality and will last even for the hopless Antifiles.

It is a relief to finally see these albums remastered so brilliantly.
Adam and Marco are two of the best from the 1980's and to have Marco work on these remasters makes it truly a collection of the best quality and a worthy addition to any Ant fans collection!
The tracks are clear and clean. The demos and extras tracks are hilarious and fun to listen to to hear some of the earlier choices of lyrics etc..
As well as this boxed set there are the three previous remaster releases of Dirk Wears White Sox, Kings of the Wild Frontier and Prince Charming. I highly recomend getting all of these as well. They will all fit into the special boxed set. The CD sleeves and inserts look great with classic pictures as well pictures I had never seen, and was a rabid collector back in the day! The Inserts also include the lyrice to all the songs even the demos & extra tracks that are not on the original albums!
I've been a fan since 1980-81 and it is a joy to finally have decent versions of these albums on CD! Thank you Marco and Adam there's nothing like Antmusic and there never will be anything to top it!

When Basie Reformed his Big Band in the 1950s, He Managed to Become Entirely New by Sticking with What Had Made Him Great from the Start. And in the Process, Basie Achieved Some of the Most Extraordinary Success of his Career. The Original Reel to Reel Tapes were the Source for Most of this Release which Contains 146 Tracks on Eight Cds, Including Seven Previously-unreleased Recordings and Three Alternates Not in the Vaults at Universal Music. Chris Albertson's Liner Notes Take the Reader Through Each and Every Recording, in Addition to Laying Out What was Happening to the Band Outside the Booth; Details that Suggest He's Had Access to Everyone's Date Book from the Period. The Complete Discography Clears Up Many Inaccuracies and Inconsistencies that have Bedeviled the Release of this Material for a Half-a-century.

Tight and swingin'.......2005-12-31

My bias is that I'm very fond of this period in Basie's career. As this collection reveals, his band had top-knotch material and was replete with master craftsmen. When Basie sparingly tinkles the keys it still sends chills down my spine. By this time he was the swami of concise perfection, never saying more than need be. On the uncommon track when he cuts loose, such as Blues for the Count and Oscar, the result is thrilling.

The packaging -- including a 20-page booklet -- is thorough and informative but not opulent. So far as I've seen, no label has given Basie the sort of loving treatment that has been bestowed on collections of Holiday and Ellington. Clearly, though, the music in this collection has been sensitively tended to and sounds fantastic. The booklet has the essential information about personnel and recording dates, and a list of the albums on which the material was originally released is included.

Jazz lovers owe immense gratitude to Norman Granz, who originally produced this material for his labels.

From the beginning there was no serious competition. Basie is the King of Swing. This limited edition collection is a valuable contribution to the preservation and dissemination of his work. It should be in every public library that has a CD collection and in the home of every Jazz lover. Most of it has never been available on CD.

Variety is the spice of life...and boy this is a spicy pack........2003-07-25

Yes I shelled out the money for this assortment of LLoyd's efforts over a four year period and it was well worth it. Not worth [the money], which is what it would have cost to buy new from USA, but at the much lower used price, a good deal to find out what direction Mr Cole has been veering off into. The first disc,which I already had bought here in Australia, is 2001's best album, 'LLoyd Cole and the Negatives'. What a kick [booty] band supporting LLoyd's brillant lyrics and melodies. The standout track is a rather atypical uptempo song called "What's wrong with this picure". Great space in the recording, spot on arrangement and really tight muscianship. On par with "Rattlesnakes" and a wonderful surprise after the rather downbeat, "Love Story" released five years earlier. The overall four star rating is lifted by this masterpiece comeback album. 11 out of 10.

That said, disc two is the interesting failure of "Plastic Wood", which whilst being different, doesn't highlight Mr Cole's strengths, namely his voice, his lyrics and his musicanship. Disc three, 'Etc' is uneven in it's songwriting and sounds like many Cole B sides (not that such things exist anymore) but you get my drift. It is about on par with Love Story, about 6 out of 10. Disc four, 'Loaded' is a live recording that isn't too bad with respect to the choice of song, but the actual recording is not very good. This is even taking into account that it is live.However if you are like me and live in far flung part of the world, like Australia,it is the closest you get to hearing Lloyd in his spontaneous glory.

The real icing on the cake (or case) as the case is, is the exquisite packaging the 4 cds come in. Not cheap plastic but a really beautiful crafted and minimalist design package that encloses 24 great pages from LLoyd with photographs and extensive writing from the great man himself.

So all in all a good package deal particularly for all those fans who miss his music and wish he would release more albums. Oh well beggars from great pop music, can't be choosers.
