This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

This album is what they mean when ya hear the term old-school. This Album was the bomb when it was released. one half of the songs are beautiful with my favorites being natural high, spinning around, and dont turn around. If you want to hear old school, listen to this group. Interesting history too, look it up!

This group caught my eye when I saw them in a movie Trainride To Hollywood circa 1980. Have no idea why neither the soundtrack nor the film is currently available to buy. It was a fun musical film with great music, and I got the soundtrack back then and enjoyed it.

I also got Natural High, and still have a CD of it. It is raw early 70's R+B with warts and all. My own personal opinion is that Never Let You Go is the best track, and one of my favorite tunes. Very upbeat, with good funky rhythms on the Fender Rhodes. It is preceeded in what I always thought was a very interesting way by Ran It In The Ground.

The song Natural High was covered, I think, by the Commodores. Tarrentino used the Bloodstone version in one of his films, Jackie Brown I think it was. The CD cover discusses the emotions the group had in recording the song.

To be honest, there are only one or two songs off this CD that I really go for when I put it on. That could lead to a three-star rating, but I guess I'll give it four.

It would be nice if the soundtrack and the movie of Trainride to Hollywood could somehow be released again. It wasn't the best film I ever saw or anything, but it was fun and I don't see why it's not available to listen to. They covered a lot of different genres in it, like covering "As Time Goes By" and "Yackety-Yack". Maybe Tarrentino could make it happen. Maybe amazon.com could look into it.

Every so often the electric gods of fusion's past would unplug their axes and explore the pure unadorned beauty of the acoustic guitar. When McLaughlin meditated on My Goal's Beyond and Dimeola navigated Chick Corea's "No Mystery," we discovered that these guys were much more than mere overamped wankers. Frank Gambale established his credentials in Chick's late `80s Elektric Band, coming out of that experience renowned as a guitarist's guitarist. But this is his first all-acoustic outing, and it's the most intriguing session in his discography. Employing a drummerless guitar-piano-bass trio with occasional percussion, Gambale proves he's got the goods even when he's not cranked up to 10. Even more impressive than the players' chops is the sheer musicality of the proceedings. Constructing several of the original tunes on the chord changes of time-tested standards, the Gambale gang infuses their music with good humor and hot licks, showing how to generate electricity without plugging in. --Jim Newsom

I was kind of anxious before downloading this on FG's site : what kind of jazz is possible without drums ? Well, I was deeply wrong. Otmaro Ruiz' classical but nevertheless exciting jazz piano style and Gambale's chops on acoustic guitar match perfectly. Alain Caron brings a nice touch to the ensemble. This album doesn't break any new ground, but it's extremely refreshing to hear so much acoustic tone, which doesn't sacrifice to the technical skills of Mr Sweeping: this jem just brings you back alive. I'm thinking about buying the real CD now.

The renowned guitarist, Frank Gambale, accompanied by the amazing ensemble of, Otmaro Ruiz (piano) Alain Caron (bass) and Mike Shapiro (percussion on some tracks), will thrill you throughout the collection of songs on this wonderful album. Sublime musicianship by all and you'll want to keep replaying this album again and again. All songs on the album were written and produced by Frank Gambale and released on his own record label, Wombat. This is Frank Gambale at his finest. Absolutely breathtaking!

im not a good critic or anything. i love to listen to all types of music, and im not normally a reggae fan, but i must say this album is darn good. great dance music. gets you moving. i think this album could appeal to a good variety of audiences. reggae lovers or not. like the music and positive message in the song "bettah world", and love the upbeat "green harvest". total koolness!

BE WARNED this IS NOT Natural High , it is Natural High Vol 2. Vol 1 is listed elsewhere as "Natural High 2-step, boogie, fusion and rare groove". I made the mistake of ordering this incorrect listing and now have 2 copies of Vol 2 and an Amazon marketplace trader saying they've sent me the correct CD.
Despite that it's great, just not needed TWICE.....

I must say I am quite impressed that Hammerfall didn't release another obvious made-for-radio single in the vein of "Hearts on Fire" or "Blood Bound". Seriously, while those were good songs in their own right and time another song like that and the third time would have definitely not have been a charm.

"Natural High" itself is quite a departure from the tunes mentioned above, much darker and sinister in nature than any of the band's previous singles. While "Blood Bound" and "Hearts on Fire" were driven forward more or less by the lyrics, "Natural High" is much more guitar driven than it is lyrically - you probably won't find yourself suddenly singing the chorus. Unfortunately, it's that part of the song that runs into trouble: while it's far from being weak like some of the song choruses on the new album, it does suffer from a slight awkwardness in how the lyrics and music come together. Nevertheless, while it's not the best single they've had it gets the job done.

Hammerfall once again give the listener a karaoke version of the title track, just like on the 2005's Blood Bound single. Unfortunately, there is just little to no reason for this to even be on here considering there is no sing-along contest this time. I could see using these as bonus tracks for the Japanese/Asian releases since karaoke type tracks and albums are usually made for and accepted by such markets.

"The Fire Burns Forever" is a pretty typical Hammerfall song in just about every way imaginable, I guess it can be a pretty uplifting track if you think about it, but why such a song would ultimately be chosen as a theme by/for their country's Olympic team is beyond me - sounds more like a PR move than anything else. Supposedly, this version of the song has an additional background singer but it's barely any different that the one on the album - in other words no big deal. The live version of "Raise the Hammer" is a extra track taken from the shows that band recorded for their 2003 live album "One Crimson Night". It's an OK addition but "In Memoriam" still remains my favorite Hammerfall instrumental by far.

Speaking of "The Fire Burns Forever", this is the video that is included on this disc - not the one for "Natural High" that is listed above; the track listing on the single itself is correct. I must say that this mix-up really didn't make me happy because I bought this single mainly for the Natural High video and I could honestly pass on the Fire Burns Forever clip. I guess that's partly my fault by not confirming the track listing at the band's official website.

In the end unless you want the video for The Fire Burns Forever and the two other tracks - which are totally expendable unless you MUST have every Hammerfall song/clip in existence - it' probably be best to skip this appetizer and just go the main course.

      I don't own the Album, but listening to the Previews alone tells me that the album isn't all that great. I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm a fan of B2K and a LONG TIME fan of IMx/Immature. But I could never Catch on to Chris Stokes or Taz (Katrina Asknew). It was Obvious that Chris Stokes wanted some of the Spotlight (At That time). I'm glad him and his Partner Taz stuck to Managing Group from that Point On. I'm still Cracking Up over some of the Track Titles "Taste My Juice". Come on.

Whats so great about Lil Rob's (Natural High cd) is he's got it all figured out! It's all about his flows and beats. See Lil Rob he doesent always use his own beats he uses old school beats for his back ground musica, witch is cool it's not like he is stealing the beats it's, not like we don't like the old school rap, it's just different times, we want something to bump in are carro something new with good rhymes and a good beats, cause those old school songs are good but the words get old and tiresome. Thats where Lil Rob came in, he took all the old school beats and added new tight hard lyrics to them like take the songs (Natural High, Wicked Wicked, I Remember, Let Me Try, If You Should Lose Me and No Soy De Ti). Lil Rob has been making albums since he was 16 years old he started out freestyle tell some homeboys said to become a famous rapper for puttin it down for the chicanos this was a dream Lil Rob has had since he was a kid now he's finally living his dream and he has spread his talent though out the world! Yes Lil Rob has the altimate beats Lil Rob knows how to rap and what would a rap song be without good hard lyrics but it's not just the beats and lyrics we all like it's lil robs flow. Lil Rob knows how to put the right beats, say the right lyrics, and how to flow the right way he knows what cd,s are going to cell and witch ones wont.       Lil rob is the best chicano rapper, he drops lyrics and beats better than anyone I've ever heard. Everything he does is good. This cd is especially firme. Put it in your car sterios and bump it loud! The best tracks are natural high, and let me try.
