Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Finally back in print, we're happy to present two albums of "agitprop" electronic music (Tract and To Kill A Sunrise) cut between 1968 and 1975 by mysterious & controversial Turkish composer Ilhan Mimaroglu - one of the truly underrepresented pioneers of the golden age of the Princeton-Columbia electronic music scene. Mimaroglu is best known for his work with Edgard Varese, mentor Vladimir Ussachevsky, a spellbinding collaboration with jazz musician Freddy Hubbard and as a chief composer of Fellini's Satyricon, as well as for electronic albums released on his own Finnadar label. Produced as a direct reaction to an extended period of intense repression in Turkey, Tract is a scrambled mash-up peppered with spunky electronic bursts, looped radio ads, the breathy, defiant vocals of Turkish singer Tuly Sand and the go-go-licious backing jams of little-known psych group Topsy Turvy Moon - all shot through with lines lifted from old left-wing standbys Chairman Mao, Karl Marx & Bertolt Brecht. To Kill A Sunrise follows suit with a wild, uncompromising, orgiastic electro-dirge for those who are murdered by the lackeys of the ruling class while the collection closer, "La Ruche," brings the audio gestalt to a somewhat subdued end. Brilliantly remastered from the original tapes, Agitation features close to 80 minutes of music, original liner notes and new notes by Keith Fullerton Whitman (Hrvatski).

Intense mind - scrambling psychedelic rock!.......2006-12-03
This is the third Agitation Free album and it is an overwhelming psychedelic experience! This is German space-rock reaching a pinnacle with extended modal and harmonic guitar jamming evolving into effect loaded sound experimentation touching base with everything great in kosmic music. There is wonderful instrumental integration soaring into euphoric melodic passage or multi- dimensional areas of alternate space either through experimental manipulation of the amazing guitar work or the deep and conscious altering effects of some of the then current ventures into electronic sound (1974). This, to me, easily ranks with some of the finest krautrock albums of the time; Tago Mago, Yeti, Ash Ra Tempel's first, and Zeit. The first side contains some of Agitation Free's most intense guitar jamming and exploration somewhat similar perhaps to what Acid Mothers Temple are doing today giving way on side two to full electronic experimentation using mostly guitar and synthesizer ever weaving, evolving, and unfolding into a rapturous symphony of melodic sound texture. This album is an absolute MUST for anyone into psychedelia, electronica, or krautrock!

Agitation Free - 'Malesch' (Garden Of Delights) 4 1/2 stars.......2005-06-08
'Malesch' was Agitation Free's first album release.Originally put out in 1972,with founding members bassist/keyboardist Michael Gunther and guitarist/keyboardist Lutz Ulbrich. Some say 'Malesch' is one of the better krautrock efforts ever. Here,Agitation Free fuses spacey synth work,an atmospheric vibe with a Middle Eastern sound as so few ensembles can.Best cuts include "Sahara City",the intricate "Khan El Khalili" and the title track "Malesch".Should appeal to most fans of Faust,Terry Riley,Kluster,Tangerine Dream and Steve Reich.A great pick.Recommended.

Album Description
Full title - At The Cliffs of the River Rhine. Agitation Free from Berlin are well-known thanks to their albums, 'Malesch' (1972), 'Second' (1973), & 'Last' (1976). The band produced such famous musicians as Christopher Franke, who went to Tangerine Dream, & Axel Genrich, who was to join Guru Guru. They were living & rehearsing in the by now legendary Commune 1. At The Cliffs of River Rhine is a gig recorded in expert quality on 2/2/74 in Cologne. Garden of Delights. 2002.

Agitation Free - 'At The Cliffs Of The River Rhine' (GoD).......2004-03-20
If you're a krautrock fan,it's quite simple really. This is a MUST have.'At The Cliffs...' is a 38 minute audio masterpiece that was recorded live on February 2,1974 in Cologne,Germany. It's been poorly bootlegged before,so it's release on the Garden Of Delights label is most welcomed by all true fans of this music genre. The line-up on this CD is as follows: Michael Hoenig-keyboards;Lutz Ulbrich and Gustav Lutjens-guitars;Burghard Rauch-drums and Michael Gunter on bass.Opens with "Through The Moods",a thirteen minute gem of pure cosmic improv that's exclusive to this title. The other tracks here come from the band's 'Second' lp."First Communication" makes me feel like I'm on a cataclysmic trip through time, space and reality,Hoenig's keyboard work is unreal."Laila" is an AF classic, part one and two sort of latch together as one song, employing some hypnotic grooves and well crafted bass lines."In The Silence Of The Morning Sunrise" showcase some out-of-this-world like guitar playing.I'd personally give this disc a six star rating, but you're allowed five at the maximum. Most HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Customer Reviews:
Agitation Free - 'Second' (Spalax).......2004-12-21
Originally came out in 1973,this was the band's second effort.Just as good as their later-day archive release 'At The Cliffs...'(see my review).I now have every one of Agitation Free's discs and the only one I dislike is the 'Other Sides Of...' because it's just way too jazzy. One of the first factors that a listener should pick up on while hearing 'Second' is that Agitation makes FULL use of combining middle eastern-like rhythms with some over-the-top electronic wizardry to create their OWN sound of what kraut/cosmic rock should be.The keyboard work by Michael Hoenig is superb as it IS with all Agitation records. All seven tracks are fantastically trippin',but I thought I'd at least mention "First Communications",the somewhat moody "A Quiet Walk" and the mid tempo "Haunted Island" will have the new owner of this CD playing it often. Also, the tunes "Laila,Pt.1" and "Laila,Pt.2" carry their weight rather well.Another must-have in the krautrock field. Will appeal to fans of Ash Ra Tempel,Cluster,Tangerine Dream and Faust.Highly recommended.
No agitation.......2003-02-26
Agitation Free's name typifies this entire record. From the opening track,"First Communication," to the beautiful "In the Silence of the Morning Sunrise," 2nd is AF's masterpiece. Unlike most of the other German groups of the time, Agitation Free fused electronics with middle eastern rhythms and melodies. Quite original for the time and still sounds fresh even now in the 21st century. The group's synthesist/keyboardist,Michael Hoening, would later tmove to the U.S. where he now composes music for film and television. If you like Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze, etc., you should own this disc. An unacknowledged classic and slightly recommended over the group's first release, Malesch.

Underrated..........2005-07-30
Ok first off i am going to be totally blunt. If Metallica progressed to this after the Black Album, they would still be getting frequent spins in my cd player. But considering they did not, its few and far between. Many people consider Am I Blood to be nothing more than a more aggressive Metallica hybrid. Not true my friends. Though the vocalist does ring a slight Hetfield attempt, the music blasts through you like a tank on 11 tracks and the journey is not like a death metal clipping where every track is downtuned and heavy, nor is this a progressive release where everything is mindbinding and unpredictable. Am I Blood can be predicted at times, but this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Take tracks 2-5 as a good example. Examination is a straight edge song as is The Day Will Be Executed, however the latter possesses more melody and experimenting within its ranks. Segregated Holocaust is easily my pick for favorite song on the album as its gotten repeated spins for around a year now since i purchased the cd. Its a slow, fire breathing dragon that takes twists and turns like you wouldn't belive. Then Suicidal Solution resumes the aggression.
The man who claimed the lyrics to this album are unintelligent obviously never examined the book. Talk about intricate vocal patterns and thoughtful lyrics. You will listen to some of these songs and wonder how he is saying these intricate passages. Once again i turn to Segregated Holocaust for an example. While the chorus is rather bland and simple, the verses are far from it. This balance creates a perfect vocal song. Who ever said "exit light, enter night, take my hand, we're off to never neverland" was Einstien-worthy?
If you like Metallica and want to see which direction they would've taken had they become a more challanging, agressive band, check out Am I Blood and be amazed. This is powerful, potent stuff that will hit you hard then hit you again when you begin to think about it later. You then realize that these powerful anthems never really leave your head.
1998's MOST UNDERRATED METAL BAND - AM I BLOOD
mind-blowing power.......2000-07-12
this band has alot of mind-blowing power.the songs are awesome.if you don't have it, buy it. you will not be sorry
Unbelievable.......2000-06-22
Great! More great Finnish metal! Finnish metal really is the best metal in the world. Stratovarius, Nightwish, Sentenced, Children Of Bodom, Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, HIM and Sinergy aren't the only ones....
Great!.......2000-01-13
This album is a revolution in the art of heavy metal. Each song has its own spirit in such a way that you can't believe that all the 11 songs are preformed by 1 band. If you lestened to the album you will know what I mean. Also, you can lesten to the new song of Am I blood at the death collection: death is just the begining 5. The song is called GIFT. Enjoy! The Scandinavian metal bands are crushing the American metal bands throne, beware Americans!
Amazing.......1999-12-12
when is the last time you've heard a band that was as good as Metallica. And Yes it is true that do resemble them quite remarkably even though they do seem to be a little more melodic. But anyway With Metallica edging closer and closer towards the awful light of alternative metal, we still need a band that can pick up where they left off after ...And Justice For All. I've listened already to 2 of their 3 albums, and i was impressed to say the least, their riffs are very heavy, and at times very soothing. I would say that if your looking for some good thrash look no further.

Agitation Free - 'River Of Return' (BSC Music).......2005-01-14
Hard to believe, but after some 25 years of disbanding, four out of five members of Agitation Free has actually reunited to put out this decent 1999 release.Must mention that 'River...' turned out to be better than what I had expected.Line-up is:Gustl Lutjens-keyboards,Lutz Ulbrich-keyboards&ukulele,Michael Gunther-bass,Burghard Rausch-drums and guest player Johannes Pappert(of Kraan)-sax.SURE,it might've turned out better with old member Michael Hoenig aboard. But,I think all/most fans should be okay with 'River Of Return' just the way it is.Best tracks include the modern day krautrock gem,the ten-minute astounding "Susie Sells Seashells At The Seashore","Nomads" and the thirteen-minute epic "177 Spectacular Sunrises"(great cut to lose your sanity over). With a total of 63 minutes of top notch progressive to experience here,in my opinion,thirty-five minutes of it is truly incredibly well written and superby played.A good CD to have in your collection.
Customer Reviews:
Agitation Free - 'The Other Sides Of ...' (Garden Of Delights) 2 1/2 stars.......2007-01-25
Apparently, this ten track CD was recorded just before Agitation Free disbanded in the fall of 1974. Looking at a list of about a dozen musicians on the back cover, the only two that I recognized were bassist Michael Gunter and guitarist Gustav Lutjens. This is NOTHING like the other Agitation Free CD's. Turns out to be decent quality 'progressive jazz', something that most of our parents might like. Notable tracks are "6th Floor", "Latino Catherine" and the well written "Offstage". As with most of Garden Of Delights releases, 'The Other Side...' comes with a nifty 36-page CD booklet with rare band photos and memorabilia. For completists only.
