The American producer Creed Taylor produced some of the best recordings Antonio Carlos Jobim ever made. Taylor's lush strings, evocative woodwinds, and selection of top-notch jazz musicians were a perfect match for Jobim's spare, bossa nova-flavored compositions. This 1970 recording features Jobim backed by bassist Ron Carter, trombonist Urbie Green, flutist Hubert Law, and soprano saxophonist Joe Farrell. Several classics, such as "Children's Games," the lilting "Tereza My Love," and the two soft samba/swing renditions of Ary Barroso's "Brazil," are lovingly draped in the velvet arrangements of the then-young Brazilian sensation Eumir Deodato. Jobim's dry and achy vocals, along with his acoustic and rarely heard electric-piano playing, add the right sonic seasoning to this delightful disk. --Eugene Holley Jr.
Customer Reviews:
Sublime.......2006-06-12
I'll add my praises of this disc to all the others. I fell totally in LOVE with Bossa Nova back in high school. I collected everything I could, from Best of Sergio Mendes - which is also very highly recommended to those who love this genre- to Joao Gilberto. In fact I made a trip to Brazil back in 1975 because I had to see this land where this sublime music came from. Anyway back to the disc. I had everything Jobim had recorded but this one intrigued me the most. It was his darkest and most complex. Worth adding to any collection of jazz, bossa, latin or anything else.
Jobim.......2006-03-07
Listen to the samples and you will not need anyone's comments. "Wave", "Tide", "Stone flower" and the rest of the albums with Jobim's music will live for ever. Smooth, relaxing, stylish.
Maybe the most precious Jobim treasure.......2006-02-24
Another 5-star Jobim collaboration with producer Creed Taylor for his CTi label with arrangements by Deodato and a team of Jazz master musicians featuring Urbie Green and Hubert Laws.
Repertoire consists of Jobim material except for traditional Brazilian composer Ary Barroso's 'Brazil'.
Part of Jobim's compositions is music he composed for the film 'The Adventurers' also with arrangements by Deodato, issued in a very rare soundtrack album by Paramount label. Unfortunately, out of print.
Refer to the beautiful waltz 'Children's Games' which was also recorded by Elis Regina in her 'Elis & Tom' under the Portuguese title 'Chovendo na Roseira'.
A fundamental Jobim and Bossa Nova and Great Music album!
Mere words just aren't enough..........2006-02-09
This is the greatest in bossa nova bar none and would be my pick of what music straight from Heaven sounds like. Antonio Carlos Jobim is the underrated genius of the genre and his recordings are beyond words for description. Both cuts of "Brazil" are priceless and the song "Sabia" is worth the price of this album alone. The new 2002 reissue has new liner nothes and a crystal-clear sound, giving them the greatest of sound quality for the full effect. Do yourself a favor and get this, it will send you to places you never thought possible.
Stone Flower-Also Ran.......2006-02-01
While this is a very fine album, the tracks are not Jobim's best. These are prime examples of a great composer's lesser works, that produced by anyone else would be considered gems. The musicians on the album are all well known in their own right and the recording quality is excellent. A good album but not a great album

Album Description
Heralded internationally as an outstanding artist, trumpeter Jens Lindemann has enlisted the talents of The Canadian Staff Band's 30-piece ensemble for his second Marquis recording, Rising Sun.
Lindemann's musicality and virtuosity coupled with the warmth and skill of The Canadian Staff Band clearly demonstrate the brilliance of this collaboration. The music offers an eclectic mix of standard repertoire and original compositions, some of Lindemann's finest work to date.
This musical journey takes the listener from Japanese flavoured pentatonic harmonies found on the title track, to fiery temperaments peppered throughout Slavische Fantasie, and goes on to soothe with the familiar sounds of classic Gershwin delivered in a unique Lindemann style.
Customer Reviews:
Extremely Fine Trumpet Playing in a Very Eclectic Program.......2006-09-12
This disc is somewhat in the vein of Philip Smith's CD titled
My Song of Songs. Smith's disc is predominantly arrangements
of Christian hymns and songs, while Lindemann's is secular
except for two tracks. Both are recorded with excellent
Salvation Army brass bands.
Lindemann's sound, range, technical facility and breadth of
musical expression are phenomenal. Trumpet players will be
astonished at the level of control he has over his tone.
Lindemann excels at selling each piece, whether it be a
light piece or a substantial work such as Allen Vizzutti's
new composition. Musical maturity is evident here. He is
stylistically right-on.
Lindemann has a very strong high range and uses it
frequently -- perhaps a bit too frequently, but if I had
the ability to generate excitement like that, I might do
the same. It remains in good taste. Lindemann conveys a
lot of joy in this recording. The use of fluegelhorn and
piccolo trumpet add a variety of colors to his sound and
keep the disc interesting.
A special note must be made of the gorgeous piccolo trumpet
playing in the Vizzutti piece. It is an effortless, full,
and fluid sound. This piece alone is worth the price of the
disc.
The instrumentation of this project -- trumpet with brass
band -- will limit the appeal of the recording for many. This
is unfortunate, for the playing is on an extremely high level
throughout and the music making transcends the instruments
themselves.
Very highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Be Careful!.......2001-09-04
Although this is a very nice album, it is not a Jobim's work. BR>"Originally titled as TOM JOBIM APRESENTA (Tom Jobim Introduces), produced by Aloysio de Oliveira & Ray Gilbert in 1966 for the Elenco label, it was conceived as an album through which Jobim would introduce new Brazilian composers and performers to American audiences. Gaya and Deodato were invited to write the arrangements and were promised to be credited as the album leaders. But, the names of the musicians have not appeared on the album credits and, thanks to the big design of Jobim used in the cover, consumers thought they were purchasing a Jobim album! The "false" Tom Jobim album as it appeared in the United States originally in 1966 and when reissued in 1975!
This CD version, released by Warner in 1994, reproduces the original cover of the 1966 LP issue on the Elenco label. However, it adds the correct info concerning arrangers and musicians, mentioned in the liner cover.
It features two Jobim compositions:
Samba Torto - aka Pardon My English (Jobim/Aloysio de Oliveira) e
Eu Preciso de Você - aka Hurry Up and Away (Jobim/Aloysio de Oliveira), both arranged by Gaya."
These two tracks were included in the compilation Composer (with entire works The Wonderful World of Antonio Carlos Jobim and A Certain Mr. Jobim, plus additional unreleased material from last one's sessions).
Personnel that figure in the album are: Lindolfo Gaya (arranger & conductor), Eumir Deodato (piano), Sérgio Barroso (bass), Edson Machado (drums), Oscar Castro-Neves (acoustic guitar), Mauricio Einhorn (harmonica) and Jorge Ferreira da Silva (alto sax & flute).
Many people have bought this album by mistake. Even thought it is worth the money.
An Orchestra Masterpiece.......2001-06-01
This is a Jobim different from the rest of his work. I bought this album in the early sixties and can't stop playing it. The music is lush intrumental, with horns, violins and a magnificent arrangement.

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Album Description
Spirits of Love is a new CD release containing twelve original world music compositions by the great guitarist Nocy Karkour in which he seamlessly blends multiple styles and influences including Flamenco, Latin, Jazz,Blues, Regggae, Bossa Nova, and even Arabic music. It is a great pleasure to find again Nocy's dazzling speed and virtuosity which we had already savored in his previous successful release Flames of Spain. What is even more impressive in Spirits of Love, however, is the new level of musical maturity reached by Nocy and his band, with an uncompromising focus on simple melodic lines and rhythm. The virtuosity is there but only as a servant of the overall musical ideas and feelings. Nocy's spirituality, raw talent, and primitive energy explode in each note. The more you listen to this CD, the more it will sink into you, striking unexpected notes and tones in your soul.
Customer Reviews:
Consummate Artist.......2004-02-18
Does "a music fan from Las Vegas" live on the same planet? Maybe he/she has a personal beef with Nocy (or maybe is in competition)and is getting revenge by posting the ONLY negative review for Nocy's CD's?? Nocy is a consummate artist...his guitar playing is unbelievable (just ask the Lakers' fans after he played the National anthem). This album and his Flames of Spain reflect the mastery....buy them, you'll see.
A true artist is always on the rise.......2004-02-17
If I did not believe that Nocy's CDs Spirits Of Love and Flames of Spain are full of power love and energy, I will have not wasted any of my time to write this review, and say how much I appreciate both of his CDs. Nocy music is refreshing romantic and sensational. His guitar playing is superb and unique.
Music Fan, If you really did not like nocy's music why did you buy his CD? You had the choice to listen to his songs first on MP3. Common sense?
Music fan may be 10 years from now you will understand what Nocy's music is all about in the mean time dont waste your time to tell the world how negative you are. Keep in mind that music is the voice of God and it is never boring. We dont have to like all kind of music but we have to respect the artist for there creativities.
I will encourage every one to buy Nocy' music. I cannot wait for his new CD.
This is real music..........2004-02-07
To the true music fan, Nocy's music is pure enjoyment! An unique fusion of cultures and energies. He brings up a different kind of sensitivity and strength to each song, at once blows your mind with his guitar and transports you with his melodies.
Buy his CDs. See him perform, he will amaze you! I can (and do) listen to his music every day and it's never boring! I can't wait to hear what he has in store for us!
Boring........2003-11-08
This is a very boring CD with no staying power. It is OK the first time you listen to it. But by the second or third time,
it gives you a slight feeling of nausea. I just do not listen to it anymore period. The melodies and lyrics are very shallow, syrupy, and pretentious playing catch up with current trends in flamenco and world music. So do not waste your money.
Buy real flamenco CDs or if you like this lighter genre, Gypsy Kings are still your best bet.
Spirits of Love...........2002-03-22
The name perfectly captures the feel of this CD. The music is uplifting, exciting, pure and sensual. The songs encompass several different musical styles and influences. The more you listen to it, the more you love it! "Spirits of Love", "Mirage Sensuel", "Arabica" and "Take me the Way I Am" are my favorites but they are all wonderful. For hours of pure listening pleasure, get this CD now!

Album Description
'Brazilian Love Affair 4' is part of the world's leading Brazilian music series compiled by the UK's premier Brazilian DJ and aficionado and head of Far Out Records, Joe Davis. Far Out is one of the world's leading Brazilian labels with an influence on Brazilian music most labels based in Rio would die for. Joe fills us in:
"Brazilian Love Affair is a good summary of all the styles and current trends of Brazilian music and therefore Far Out's roster. On Volume 4 you've got the classic, contemporary sounds of Brazil from Far Out artists Marcos Valle, Joyce, and Azymuth, as well as the more electronic dance side that we release on 12" such as Democustico, 4 Hero, and Osunlade's remix of Grupo Batuque. I think that Brazilian music makes excellent chill out music too because it's very melancholic...it has complex chord structures and harmonies bursting with soul and melody."
'Brazilian Love Affair 4' also includes forgotten gems unearthed by Joe on his 80th trip to Brazil and cuts from Patricia Marx, Max de Castro and Jairzinho Oliveira all signed to Brazilian label Trama.
This is as authentic a picture of Brazilian music you will find. As Joe says; "I know of supposed "Brazilian" compilations that don't even have one Brazilian artist on them. Every track on this compilation has either been made by a Brazilian or produced in Brazil. Imagine if in Brazil someone released a compilation of UK music with just Brazilian artists on... it would be a sham. 'Brazilian Love Affair 4 is the real deal."
Album Details
Compiled with Love, Sweat, and (Almost) Tears by Joe Davis, Far Out's Head Honcho and the UK'S Leading Brazilian DJ and Aficionado, Volume Four features Both Exclusives and Classics from Far Out's Wealthy Catalogue as Well as Tracks from Brazil's Hottest Labels. Includes Modern Classics from Patricia Marx, Marcos Valle, Jairzinho Oliveira, Joyce, Max Decastro, and More. Whether You're Enjoying a Caprinha Or a Cup of Tea, the Music on Volume Four is Guaranteed to Relax and Unwind.
Customer Reviews:
Quality Cuts on a Quality Label.......2004-12-03
Far Out Records has grown into quote a fantastic label. This year marked it's 10th anniversary and they had a couple of nice tributes to the artists and musicians that have helped make "Far Out" records synonomous with "quality releases". This is off of their "Brazilian Love Affair" franchise, a compilation series which usually serves as a real sampler for most of their artists. It's similar to the way Ziribuiboom/Crammed did their samplers (Brasil 2Mil, etc.) or even Schema with their Break&Bossa's.
This one, the fourth, was pretty strong and had some real quality cuts on it. It starts out with Patricia Marx slow jam which features Joao Parahyba (think Suba/Trio Mocoto) that was popular in summer of 2002 then follows up with a sort of jazzy track by Azymuth with Sabrina Melheiros (is it her husband that's with Mamond?)... although admittedly that wasn't a song that really got me. The remix to "Na Batida do Agogo" followed and it is a pretty cool cut (Grupo Batuque), you can hear it on Brazilution 5. Other cool cuts on this one were Joyce's harmonic "Todos Os Santos", Democustico's sitar laden xinga filled "A Sereia", a soulful percussion heavy track by Nature's Plan, and the cd winds down with a vintage take of Vera Cruz by Vox Populi. Also - Mamond's "Preguiciman" is included - that's a cut another great track with guitar solos and a nice little bossa beat.
All in all, I definitely recommend this release - much like I recommend all 5 of the Brazilian Love Affair CD's. This label that features such great artists from the old school and new school, like Troubleman, Joyce, Os Ipanemas, Azymuth, Marcos Valle and several others, knows how to put out some great music! The quality of the cuts makes up for it being just one disc - a few other series, like Brazilectro, Nova Latino, etc. are all double disc sets. If you dig this, be sure to check Kenny Dope's "Brazilika", a tribute to Far Out recordings, and Brazilution 5.2. Also, you might want to check out some of the label's individual artist's.

Sergio Starts to Forge the Second Phase of His Career.......2005-12-29
It's interesting to read the reviews of this album here, as they seem mostly to be from people who either discovered Sergio with this album or were not that familiar with Sergio's breakthrough group, Brasil '66. Among diehard Brasil '66 fans, the two Bell albums (this and "Vintage '74") represent a transitional sound, and for many fans of this ilk, not a completely satisfactory one.
I for one "followed" Sergio throughout the many stylistic changes of his career and while "Love Music" was obviously an attempt to re-establish Sergio on the Top 40 charts (sadly, it failed miserably--"Love Music" the single only "bubbled under") after his increasingly poor selling last Brasil '66 and Brasil '77 albums for A&M, it's still a worthwhile melding of Sergio's propulsive rhythm section blended with a now younger and more soul-inflected vocal sound due to the introduction of sunny-voiced Bonnie Bowden. As long as you don't expect "another" Brasil '66 record.
While Brasil '66 is noted for its sophistication and multi-cultural genre busting efforts, "Love Music" is basically good, old fashioned MOR adult contemporary clothed in some exotic percussion. The arrangements are uniformly lush (Alcivar's especially, as he attempts to introduce some unusual harmonic touches in otherwise straightforward tunes like "Where is the Love?"), the vocals smooth, but the overall impression is (at least for a lot of Brasil '66 fans) a little bland. Part of this is due to the fact that there are no Brasilian tunes on this album, virtually the only time in Mendes' career that this happened. It seems Mendes himself recognized he had lost something of his calling card, because by the time he released "Vintage '74" a year later, it included two "new" Jobim compositions, as well as "Voce Abusou," which had recently been a big hit in his native Brasil.
All in all, if you're expecting the dynamic vocals of Lani Hall, Janis Hansen and/or Karen Philipp, with that incredible Brasil'66 rhythm section, you may be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you're fond of expertly produced and arranged "easy listening" music, albeit with some great percussion, you'll probably love this album.
*THE* Best Of All Their Classic Albums.......2005-01-22
In my opinion, this is the best album of the awesome group of Sergio Mendes (and Brasil '65, '66, '77, '88, '99 and 2000) whose music was greatly influenced by Bossa Nova legend, the late Antonio Carlos Jobim. I had it in an album format when it first came out and have been wishing to have it on CD but it was so rare and not available until 2003. At long last, the wait was over...thanks to BMG-Japan!
The material selected in this recording is so impressive from James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," Burt Bacharach/Hal David's "Walk The Way You Talk" to Paul Williams' "I Won't Last A Day Without You." Most of these songs were listed on Top 40 Pop Chart. What made these songs more special are their unique interpretations, the perfect blend of the ladies' lush vocals and the invigorating and vibrant rhythms that are so typical of Sergio Mendes' innovative arrangements. Adding to the beauty of the songs are the flawless arrangements on strings, horns and woodwinds by a fine jazz/composer/arranger and one of my favorites, Tom Scott; and another great talent, Bob Alcivar, who did the fabulous rhythm section arrangements.
The tracks (in order of my favorites) are the following:
"Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" - a love song composed and sung originally by my all-time favorite singer/songwriter/guitarist James Taylor. Gracinha Leporace's rendition is so wonderful and with her enthralling voice, she made this song as the best interpretation by a female vocalist. Of course for male vocalist, James Taylor's original is still the greatest. I heard another version from Kevin Mahogany and it's also awesome. And most recently a very nice version from David Sanborn's latest CD "Closer" with vocals by Lizz Wright.
"Hey Look At The Sun" - Words and Music by Angelo, vocals by Bonnie Bowden. A beautiful love song that is so full of enthusiasm and bright hopes!
"Walk The Way You Talk" - Well, what can I say? It's a Burt Bacharach/Hal David composition! You can't go wrong with this song, or any song that is written by this great songwriting team. You'll love it.
"I Won't Last A Day Without You" - I'd say this is an overly heartwarming song! Words and music by Roger Nichols and Paul Williams. Vocals by Gracinha Leporace. Some of the artists who recorded this lovely song are Paul Williams and the Carpenters.
"Put A Little Love Away" - Written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, vocals by Bonnie Bowden. The words and music are awesome and the arrangement is flawless.
"You Can't Dress Up A Broken Heart" - Written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. This song speaks clearly of a shattered heart that can't be fixed or dressed-up no matter how much you try.... Ouch! :(
"Killing Me Softly With His Song" - Written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox and was made popular by Roberta Flack who also sung "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love," a duet with Peabo Bryson.
"Where Is The Love?" - Written by Ralph MacDonald and William Salter, this song was originally recorded by Roberta Flack who also sung the hit song "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from Clint Eastwood's movie "Play Misty For Me."
"Love Music" - Written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. Has a very lively rhythm and great arrangement.
"I Can See Clearly Now" - A song written by Johnny Nash that has vibrant and bubbly beat.
There are a lot more Sergio Mendes classics you might want to check out such as "Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 Greatest Hits" which has a nice repertoire of standards, and "Equinox" which includes the hit songs "Wave" and "Watch What Happens." Very highly recommended! I would give more than five stars to all these CDs. Timeless music to listen and enjoy for a lifetime.
Finally found it !!.......2004-11-27
I look for Sergio "Where is the love" for long time, and finally got it. I love this music. It isn't labelled as the best, for me it is the best (just without Masquenada). Maybe this is also Sergio's best line-up.
Suprisingly I also love "Put A Little Love Away", "Killing me softly...", "I won't last a day without you". I don't see any reason for not have this album. Whether you're a fan or not, you'll love it..
I Do Love This Music.......2004-08-07
Sergio Mendes & The Brazil 77 came on the heels of his highly popular Brazil 66 group.Only difference was they were
covering more earthy R&B orientated material from the early
1970's such as "Where Is The Love","Don't Let Me Be Lonely
Tonight",and Johnny Nash's classic "I Can See Clearly Now".All
are done in Mendes's classic latin-pop style except I must say
Johnny Nash's original is so illuminating that it sort of
wipes the floor with this one.The title track-a little Stevie
Wonder and a little Donny Hathaway,is the best track on this
album and one will also note the addition of two famous future musicians-Paulo Da Costa on percussion and Laudir Olivier(from
the second generation Chigaco)conga drums.Part of a series of worthy successors to the Brazil '66 material!
Disappointed with sound.......2004-02-10
Musically speaking this a cohesive and delightful selection of songs played by the master Sergio Mendes and his great line-up. Absolute ear candy!! What takes away from this music is the horrible mastering job. I paid over $30.00 for this cd, and it sounds like it was dubbed from overmodulated tapes....it's hard to listen to ...it sounds like the worn vinyl counterpart sitting in my sisters album case. This is not fair representation for Sergio Mendes who would have a fit if he knew his music was being heard like this. Very poor for a (remastered) ha! ha! Japanese import..shame on BMG!! I intend to get a refund on this one!

Sylvia Telles was Arguably the Most Talented Brazilian Vocalist of the Fifties and Sixties and was Indeed the First Bossa Nova Singer in Brazil. The Much-cherished Sylvia Telles Dedicated her Short Career to One Man: Antonio Carlos Jobim. Jobim was the Supreme Composer of his Generation and the Admiration was Reciprocal with Many of These Songs Being Handed Directly to Her. Invariably Sylvia Would Then Create the Definitive Version; Establishing the Exact Mood in which These Historic Compositions Should Be Sung.
