Customer Reviews:
Great tempo.......2007-03-20
The music keeps a great tempo and it motivates me to move faster. I thought there would be motivational talking in it, but there wasn't (don't know if that's good or bad). The music didn't have original artists, but the music was recognizable and fun, and I really like it.
One of the best workout mixes ever!.......2006-05-25
This CD is one of the best workout music CD's around. Of course what would you expect with the renowned fitness expert, Kathy Smith?

Save Your Money!.......2006-08-15
This CD sucks! There is barely any rhythm in any of the songs on this album. This "mix" was put together poorly so there is no flow between the songs at all. I hope that I have written this in time to save others from making a bad buying decision!
This CD Gets You Through It!.......2004-05-11
If you need a soundtrack for your daily 30 to 45 minute walking routine -and- you like radio and dj mixes of some known and unknown eclectic tunes (vs. straight performances of songs you are already familiar with), this CD can get you through it. It's a bit of soul and urban, techno and rock, with a dash of top 40. The 12 cuts add up to about 48 minutes.

Just as good as the first time!!.......2007-01-15
Well, I had to buy this for a second time, my CD broke and I couldn't stand living without it anymore =P. It really is some of Dara's best! He started this line of CD's breakbeat science :Exercise 1...etc. I also just bought the 5th one mixed by Clever, and it's a little different than I usually listen to but wow what a smooth mix! As for the Dara, there isn't much else to say. He's just awesome! BUY THE CD AND START YOUR COLLECTION!!!
A memorable DnB album.......2006-10-06
Dara's work on BBS:E1 has a good variety of songs ranging from hardcore drum n' bass tracks and blends well with softer drum n' bass songs. Truly an epic mix!
Excellent Drum and Bass Album.......2005-11-07
Features a variety of styles, not one of those albums where it sounds like we're listening to the exact same track.
Lots of hard sounds, but a few more mellow tracks as well.
Some melody, and lots of crazy beats!
Probably Dara's best work.
Better then Dieselboy.......2005-08-12
DJ Dara is 10 times better then Dieselboy is, This is some hardcore jungle breakbeats, And you say this is no Dieselboy. This guy knows how to spin records.
He's no dieselboy, but..........2004-11-30
A most refreshing mix. i went to the store cause i needed something new to add to my library, something with more punch than goldie, but not quite as energetic as straight up jungle. this particular installment of the breakbeat science series is different from the rest...it follows more of almost a jungle/techstep sound. it's not too heavy, but if your looking for some strong breaks, they're all right here. a must have for the all-around dn'b fan, and a great introduction to those new to the genre!

"04" contains fifteen in demand club tracks never before available on CD, plus two exclusives from DB and Stakka.
Customer Reviews:
great cd.......2007-03-24
I bought this cd a couple years ago and still always pound its beats and bass in my GLI Jetta.
Surprisingly awesome.......2006-01-23
I bought the album for 2 reasons.
1: I bought Dj DB's:The secret art of science and liked it.
2: The album art and cover looked really cool.
Well this album is more than just a pretty face. It's a real rock solid album. I really like the range of sounds that are explored in this album. DB and Stakkas tracks are some of the really high points of the album (especially the last track). I was really surprised how different this was from the other DJ DB album I own. Don't get me wrong The Secret art of Science is great, it's just that after a while a majority of the tracks seem like they are just filler. With this album each track has it's own unique sound and vibe that really do an awesome job of creating a "journey" of an album.
But what I really dug the most was the album art. I really like the use of color and art style. The CD itself looks awesome.
Great looks and killer sound, you really can't do any better!
The Fourth Exercise.......2005-08-01
Man, this is a really good mix. Very clean sounding drums and breaks. Nice addition to any junglists collection.
Wow!.......2005-07-12
I'm a huge Drum n' Bass and DB fan, which compelled me to go out and buy this album. After giving it a few listens it really started to grow on me. This CD was marked at $8.99 at my local FYE store, and with a price like that any Drum n' Bass fan should not pass this offer up. What did bug me about this mix is that there was only 3 tracks by Stakka & DB, who I felt should have made an entire CD of their own.
The perfect middle-ground between dark and light........2005-01-05
This is the first DB mix that I've picked up. After repeated, and repeated listens, I will most definitely be picking up all of his other mixes as well. If you are looking for the super dark stuff this is not the mix to get. BSE 004 does have some darker tracks but for the most part it's path is right down the middle. Upbeat tempo's and lots of melody throughout the mix make for a very nice all-around listen from start to finish. Plus it's worth it just for the original produced tracks: Groupies, 2B, and my personal fave on the disc Spaghetti wich features some Ennio Morricone flavored melodies. Very cool stuff!!

Aerobics instructors beware!!.......2005-12-14
This CD has some really cool songs on it that go great with a workout. But aerobics instructors BEWARE: About half the songs are NOT 32-count. I used it in a class before I realized this fully, and we were getting off track about every five minutes. It was frustrating!! What I did eventually was transfer some of the 32-count songs (like Run Away and Saturday Night) and made them part of a different workout CD.
But, hey, if you don't care about songs being 32-count, this is a good, solid, pick-me-up workout CD.
All Fitness Conditioning.......2003-08-29
I just ratcheted up my power walking with All Fitness Conditioning. Wow!! The best CD yet, although I would like to see two titles changed to "So Many Women, So Little Time", and "It's Raining Women". Even us old men can still dream...
Shape Fitness MUsic: All Fitness Conditioning: Hi-NRG favori.......2003-04-11
This is my favorite of the SHAPE tapes, and they are all quite good. I bought this because i like JUMP, however, i find the beat to each selection excellent for what I am doing, which is fast paced walking. I love it!!!
Disco Muzak.......2003-01-19
This is my first Shape Fitness Music CD series purchase. After listening to it, I now realize why I don't have very many disco era music in my collection.
I only recognized one song and artist on this CD - "Jump" by the Pointer Sisters. It's the one song that I really liked. Everything else on this CD sounded the same. You hear and can get a good heart rate by listening to the beat, but after awhile, it all blends into one. It's almost like listening to elevator muzak.
This is a CD that I will probably only work-out with once every couple of months. I don't think I could handle listening more than that.
If the other SHAPE CDs have original artists hits, I'd recommend getting those before this SHAPE CD.
I love this workout!.......2003-01-09
I have had this CD for over a year and still love to get out and move with it. The beats are easy to hear but not distracting. It will give you an excellent workout, especially if you are in shape enough to walk the beats on hills! I have just purchased Cardio 2 and can't wait to rock n roll with it.

Album Description
Breakbeat Science, the premier US label for Drum & Bass, continues its prestigious Exercise mixtape series. The fifth installment boasts the selections and mixing of DJ Clever, long time BBS employee and Offshore Recordings label boss. In the wake of such greats as Dara, Juju, Klute and DB, Clever joins the legacy with an upfront selection and his keen musical sensibility.
Last year's Troubled Waters established Clever as a halcyon in the current state of Drum & Bass. It gained praise from such music critics as Simon Reynolds, who deemed it "refreshing" and "the best drum 'n' bass mix CD I've heard in probably six and a half years." This interest along with it's 7.9 ranking from PItchfork Media spawned an intense blogger and music aficionado following for Clever and his Offshore imprint- which still runs rampant.
Continued touring and press along with a healthy output of stellar music on Offshore Recordings bring Clever to his Exercise 5 mix CD. He pools together forthcoming dubplates, current favorites and even a few classics. The result is the perfect bridge: dancefloor enough for the ravers, edgy enough for the chin strokers and evocative enough to bring back those who may have given up on Drum & Bass.
Exercise 5 sets off with the blaring horn and cracking break of Endemic Void's dynamic return, "Off the Market". The mix twists and turns from start to finish, never letting the mind or body wander. Highlights include:
-Warp Records artist Beans with his first ever venture into Drum & Bass territory, a futuristic robotic vocal anthem aptly coined "I Am Metal"
-Deep Blue (of Moving Shadow and Helicopter Tune fame) gets remixed by DB and Stakka on "Do You Voodoo?" and by Spirit on "Coral". He also remixes Black Rain's "Uptempo"
-Klute and Pieter K, both members of the Breakbeat Science family, showcase progressive beats.
-Clever even makes a production appearance in the form of Tundra, he and Morgan Packard, with a warm analog rhythm titled "Deep Sleep".
After delivering what many critics agreed was one of the best electronic albums of 2004, Clever once again raises the bar in 2005 with Exercise 5.
Customer Reviews:
Not a Bad Track in This Mix.......2006-08-14
As being a huge fan of Clever, I always appreciate his thought process that goes into track selections for a mix, as well as the mix itself. However, Breakbeat Science: Exercise 5 was a little awkward for me. I thought the tracks overall were pretty good, but the mix itself was where I was having trouble. At times it felt too rushed & really good songs went by too fast & the mediocre ones were hanging around too long. I would though (in the end), recommend this mix; if you played this for anyone who had never heard Clever before, they would definetly ask who it is...you know? Check out Troubled Waters & a June issue of "Knowledge" magazine (there's a FREE Clever mix with that issue & it's solid).
Underappreciated.......2006-04-15
Unlike that guy a few reviews down, I tend to get excited over anything Clever. After all, the Offshore compilation is one of my favorite Drum n' Bass mixes ever (and partially due to Clever's spectacular mixing). When I found out about this mix last year, I definitely waited with baited breath for its release. What I got out of the mix wasn't quite as strong as his Offshore mix (but then again, that source material also coming into play), but definitely a solid, left field drum n' bass mix.
Immediately noticable about this over his previous mix is that it seems to be much more dance floor aimed this time around. Not so much that you'll hear farty bass blasts or space-age rave synths (both not bad thing mind you) but its certainly more straightforward this time around. Clever starts things off on the right foot with with majestic aggressor Off the Market, another strong showing for his label. Cujo's contribution is more straightforward in its structure, but its techno derived synths and punchy bass make it a worthwhile track. Infact, the first half or so of the disc is outstanding. Graphic, Mav & Twister, and DB & Stakka (as Ror-Shak) all make stunningly original and quality tracks. Its just somewhere in the middle, the mix seems to loose some of its weight. I'm still not a huge fan of the Deep Blue/Omni Trio track (Black Rain). Amit, despite some neat vibe, also feels a bit light weight. And while normally I love Pieter K, his contribution here, well I just don't care for it really. However, Clever picks things up again with Controlled Substance and intro-ing it into the can't miss combination of Seba and Robert Manos, in one of their most emtionally profound tracks yet. From their, Clever brings the mix back down again into more ambient territory. This time with some stronger tracks (the Tundra and Coral remix are really good). But while the selection this time around isn't quite as strong, Clever still nevertheless stiches everthing together seemlessly. There are some terrifc blends that seemingly last for ages but feel so natural in their placement. Clever most definitely has the skills to pay the bills.
To basically sum everything up. Great begining. Good end. Soggy middle. But terrific mixing all the way around. And you can't go wrong with that price (or artwork for that matter).
not typical.......2006-04-10
Its not your typical dnb cd, which i respect, it has more of an Aphex twin style to it, I dont know whether to say yeh or naw, its got its up and downs in my book. unique styling though, grungy and kinda hard, ive heard better mixes from clever though....
Tight as hell!.......2006-01-05
Right when i popped this cd in I sensed a very futuristic feel to this album. Although this CD from Clever features many basic 2-step patterns in the beats, there is much filler through quick mixing and a showcase of many styles. It all still had a futuristic feel with some of my favorite cuts like - the static 2-step beats of 'Time Traveller', the space-like acid twitter melodies of 'The Tubes', the free feeling melody of 'Oshima', and the heat of 'Smoking Man' and its quick shuffles into 'Steel' with its Rastafarian vocal and changing hats. The ending is amazing through the last three cuts with some IDM/DnB in 'Love Session' to calming synths of 'Deep Sleep' and the abrasive yet funky basslines of 'Coral'. This CD is very relaxed in a way with lots of melody and easy-going beats with lots of FX over them. You still will want to nod your head when listening though. A good Buy!
boring.......2005-08-13
as far as drum and bass cds go this cd was terrible very boring and anything with clever on the cover im going to stay far away from nuff said.

Super Dance Music that keeps you moving with just the right bpm.......2006-04-21
Great hi energy dance music with a consistent beat and outstanding mixing. It also comes with two MP3 download tracks that are perfect for loading on iPod and MP3 players because there is no annoying skip between songs! No other fitness music seems to have this feature that is a great added value. Power Music knows what they are doing for this kind of music. No wonder... they have been the leader in making fitness music for group fitness instructors for 19 years.
