Classic NRG.......2003-07-29

Good selection from the vaults of TSR. All but the last 3 are the org. US 12" mixes. The last 2 seem to be misplaced on this CD. Weekend sounds like a rip-off of Paul Parker, Eastbound Expressway, with Kraftwerk on acid. Thankfully its short. Most of the songs come from Europe via the Record Shack label in England. The disc whould have received 5 stars if they whould have tossed out the last 2 fillers and placed the org. mix of "Stop". That tune had an incredble break not found here. Overall, great party tracks from mid-eighties. Another good sourse of this style is "Record Shack Presents" 1&2. Both have 2 discs of the same 80's style and full length. Well worth the money if able to find them.

What a Great selection of Dance Hits. This is the way the dance music sounded in the Clubs during the 80's. TSR released SO many great tunes it is a shame they didn't make this a 2 disc compilation. BUY IT NOW!

A slice of 80's NRG.......2002-03-26

Perfect collection of 80s hi-energy songs all in their 12" extended glory! A few of these extended mixes are not available anywhere else but on this disc. From the Sylvester-ish soul of Shawn Benson's "Secluded" to the quirky fun of Magazine 60's "Don Quichotte", you can't go wrong with this collection of fun NRG songs.

Best CD I Have Not Yet Heard!.......2001-12-21

I have yet to hear this CD, although, I was there on the dance floor when these songs were being played. I can hardly wait to get it in my hands, er... uh... on the CD player. Just seeing the titles of these songs brings back memories of fun in the 1980's.

Small choice.......2005-12-17

A very narrow delve in the great history of gay-aimed dance music, this seems to have been chosen by someone with a penchant for the Record Shack label which produced most of the worst Hi-NRG of the era. Or maybe they just had the cheapest licensing fees. The Carol Jiani and Paul Parker tracks are pretty good, but this doesn't make me want to dance as much as other 80's compilations you can buy. I still say that the best Eurodisco hits are from Europe (especially Italy) and were always better than the Uk or US contenders. At any rate, this is a far too blinkered presentation of what passes for a "gay classic".

All that I can say is this cd is awsome. It has some hard to find classics in longer versions, like Eariene Bentley's "The Boys Come to Town". This is a must have for anyone who loves dance music.

A nice NRG comp, mired by a couple of ubiquitous selections.......2002-03-26

This compilation covers a broad selection of mostly mid-80's hi-energy club tracks. Thankfully, they are all extended versions. The clunkers in this collection are Jackie Moore's "This Time Baby" and Jo-Lo's "Last Call" . Moore's track doesn't fit in with the rest of the selections here - it is 70's disco, plus it's already included on umteen "Disco" compilations. While "Last Call", orignally on Sylvester's homebase - the Megatone label, is energetic, Megatone has much superior tracks in it's catalog by Patrick Cowley, Modern Rocketry, and Sylvester himself.

The Highlights here are the rarely found Deodato "SOS(Fire in the Sky)" and the 12" mix of "Jackie" by Blue Zone (which features a young Lisa Stansfield on vocals).

a series that should have gone past 2 volumes..........2005-08-26

seems the best 12" collections never get past 2 or 3 volumes before disappearing into obscurity. This volume has some goodies on it, and my only wish was that the Mortevicar mix of Dead or Alive would have been substituted, but I have a feeling there are licensing issues with that mix because it uses soundbites from "The Exorcist." Oh yeah--i also could have done without It's Raining Men--AGAIN. Yawn. Track times:

This CD of Hi-NRG gems are excellent! Any fan of Club/Dance music would want this. This music can really get the party or Rave started! Some of the highlight songs are from such artists as The Weather Girls, Miquel Brown, Stacey Q, Hazell Dean, Claudja Barry, Eartha Kitt, Until Demember and more! This is great music to dance, whin & grind on your man with. Get this CD, you won't be disappointed.

the series continues with another outstanding set. The only issue I had was that the version of Cha Cha Heels was not the same mix I have on my 12", but hey, it's another mix to add to the collection. Track times:

Who better to compile some of the hurtin'-est, swooning-est, funkiest, most attitude-serving songs to groove to than RuPaul? Whether you want to move with that new love interest in the club (Paula Abdul's "Vibeology") or sing about him/her in front of your bedroom mirror ("There Must Be an Angel" by Eurythmics), Go-Go Box Classics is all about the nightlife, and the wonderful pleasure and pain it can bring to its denizens. The usual suspects are here (Pointer Sisters, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross) along with some surprises. Punk-disco goddess Nina Hagen's "Universal Radio" is included, as is "Bullet Proof" by the king of the nasty funk, George Clinton. These are songs that inspired many a club-monger to take center stage on one of those elevated go-go platforms and, for one brief moment, be the force that brought that song to life. An unexpected surprise on a disc of radio edits, you get the full 7 minute version of "Vibeology" by Paula Abdul. This is the only place you're likely to find it on CD, so get it while it's still available.

Play that funky music drag queen!.......2001-09-05

I must confess to only getting this CD because RuPaul was on the cover. And what a cover it is! It features Ru in a bikini and when you tilt the CD back and forth Ru wiggles to and fro! Once I saw that i was hooked and HAD to get the CD.

I didn't know many of the songs included, but thought if it was good enough for RuPaul, it's good enough for me. Well this has turned out to be one of the best collections I have! The music is so funky and you can't help but get up and dance to it all. I use it for work-outs, long drives, parties, and just to dance around and relieve stress. If never fails to please! About the only songs I don't like are Ru's! The sequal to It's Rainig Men, is ok, but the track only offers Ru commenting on the lyrics rather than a re-interpretation of the song. Get Loose is ok, but just a throw away track. The real reason to get this is for the masterful Goldmine, Bullet Proof, There Must Be Angel, Rock-A-Lot and all the others. Even the remix of Paula Abdul's Vibeology is terrific! How did I ever miss these songs? This collection is too perfect! I can't wait for more compilations form Ru Paul!
