Amazon.com essential recording
A two-CD set of Khan's most serious and intense performances; the apex of the genius singer's marriage of Sufi devotional poetry and Pakistani classical music. Trancelike tabla rhythms, aching harmonium lines, and Khan's indescribable virtuosity grace each extended piece. The excellent, thoughtful liner notes by the late acclaimed rock singer Jeff Buckley say it best: "Part Buddha, part demon, part mad angel, his voice is velvet fire, simply incomparable. Nusrat's blending of classical improvisations to the art of Qawwali, combined with his out-and-out daredevil style and his sensitivity, puts him in a category all his own." Probably the best place to start your Nusrat collection: what, you haven't started yet? --James Rotondi

Two CD/8 Track Set Compiling Some of the Most Inspiring World Music Compositions by this Ethnic Innovator.
Customer Reviews:
Memorable.......2004-04-27
This cd set will probably be still played over a millenium or so.
This is the best music ever.
The only musicparty that had it all.
1.A great leader.
2.Great backup.
3.Exellent rhytm.
4.Superb lyrics.
5.And above all Nusrats voice simply incomparable.
This will never be equalled.
Remember them, they did not play music they were music itself.
Stunning.......2003-01-17
I am just blown away by this. This is the first NFA Khan
music I've listened to, but I want more. Its taken me a couple
of weeks to get into it, but now I can't stop listening.
Over a steady rythmic base of clapping and instruments Nusrat
lets his incredible vocal talents pour it all out.
The gravity and the wildness! There is a nice framework to
the music, but so much subtlety and variety over it,
absolutely brilliant, I haven't heard anything like it.
I suppose if you like songs like Kashmir, by Led Zep, Dream
Brother, by Jeff Buckley, or Leary's Gate, by Ian Moore, you
should check this out. All those songs are rock songs with an
Eastern vibe. Nusrat's music is the real thing.
Masterly, mesmerizing, magical.......2002-08-12
Long, drawn-out, fiery performances. Not for the casually interested in Khan's music, but the aficionados will have a field day.
Other Wordly Music from another World.......2002-04-12
This music takes you places. Though it's hard to listen to for extended periods, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Party chant, bebop, and Qawwali themselves into a burning frenzy. Even though I don't understand a word that's being sung, the emotion and spiritual devotion transcends the words. If you really care to know what the song's about, a translation is in the liner notes. But trust me, it really doesn't matter when the music plays, you can tell, they're real...they mean it.
I started out with Nusrat by buying the CD "Rapture" because it was the only one available in the store. I'm glad I didn't stop there and went ahead and got this CD. Whereas "Rapture" cuts off songs to make it more palatable for Western shorter attention span ears and includes Nusrat's misallocated foray into Western pop blend, "The Supreme Collection Volume I" explores the music to it's depth, as it was meant to be heard.
This music is rich and I can see why PJ's Eddie Vedder was influenced by it. Keep an open mind and open soul and be amazed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Party whipping themselves up into a frenzy of sound. They're real...they mean it.
Khan NEVER DISSAPOINTS !.......2001-11-26
I have had this CD for about a year or so and this is one of the most important CDs in my collection of Khan's CDs. Each of the tracks is something that you have to understand to enjoy and once you get to know what is the message in the words... then it is simply mesmerising.
A must for anybody who likes Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Not a bad place to start. Has clssic ASF "hits" like 'I walk the line' and 'Now I'm feeling zombiefied.' Only place besides 1987s' "Here Cum Germs" album you can get 'Isolation,' One of a few goth songs ASF has...and by FAR the best.

rare cuts from originators.......2006-11-15
All of these songs are on vinyl, and if you happen to be lucky enough to find the records, buy one of everything they have at the store, they are very rare. Tom Chasteen and Mike Kandell formed the nucleus of this label and were pioneers of the electronic dance wave that swept accross popular music in the early and late 90s. Many people immitated but these were true originals and recognition in the DJ community, along with many subsequent immitators (this writer included) really cements their place in the musical evolution of our times. Exist Dance is still in business the last time I checked in 2000. Mike Kandell made a tranquility bass record for Astralwerks and is among his best work. For those who are avid collectors, a good sound sculpture/ ambient track appears on excursions in ambience vol 2 on astralwerks. I have been listening to this CD for quite some time and its filled with classics. They came in Peace, Cantamilla, Waiting for the Lights, and Purdy Deyanol are my favorites.
Do it. Cannot go wrong for the price........2004-11-03
My apologies for my lack of confidence in rating any record, not just this one, which happens to be the first to compel me, and thus, I feel the need to urge all who might catch a glimpse of these reviews to try out this record, if only for the divine "Champion Sound", which my partner has mixed into sets unexpectedly, with great success. Sexy groove, it works if you can work it. I love it.
Trance, not "dance".......2000-04-16
I bought this compilation when it was released, and have really enjoyed it ever since. I recently played it for friends, and they thought it was new. Some of the songs are older than '93, yet it still sounds fresh. It's not exactly something you spin at a club or party, though you could for the right crowd. It's much more of a headphone thing. Lots of moody energy and contemplative tones. The vocal samples are great.
A good listen provided you like the genre........1999-11-05
This is no intro to electronica. Nor is it a hardcore beeping frenzy without any human touches. The opening track has nice vocal touches, and the the slack-jawed commentary on "Pretty Deyenol" make for that rare track that will make you laugh while you dance. Yes, there is ample dance material here; trouble will arise in finding anyone who has heard it and would therefore be able to dance, however. In the end 'tis not a classic but rather an enjoyably small step down.

Customer Reviews:
Sounded great the first time and every time after!.......1999-03-24
This is a very sensual and beautiful cd. My now husband and I heard it playing at a Sharper Image store and immediately loved it! That was four years ago and we still love to listen to it during our quiet times together. If you like Tangerine Dream, Michael Gettel, or Jon Serrie you will want to have this collection.
Intense yet mellow, great background music.......1998-05-04
If you like the kind of electronica that repeats the same boring riff over and over and over, this isn't for you. The artists on this CD prove that not all new-agey sounding music has to be soulless. Spirited and complex, every track is both intensely full of motion and somehow relaxing and meditative. A great collection to put on when you're working or writing. Good for just kicking back and having a good listen, too. (I like to put this on while playing Quake, turn on the GOD cheat, and see if I can sneak through levels without being blocked by those over-agressive souls who can't hear the music of the spheres like I do. Okay, so I'm a little weird... It's still great music!)

Customer Reviews:
Hidden gem.......2006-05-18
This cd really suprised me. I think this was only the second release by Dangers under anything else but MBM and it was a mixed set of OTHER artists' stuff. It was around the same time Crystal Method produced Community Service which I really liked as well so I gave it a shot. It starts off decent but by track 4 the album blends very well together. When I first heard the cd, though, it was at a warehouse music which is now closed but the guy there was awesome and would play the goods on release dates. I heard the Deepsky track on the PA and knew instantly it was MBM but also knew instantly it was Stargazer and I knew the whole cd would own. Which it does. Its so hard to find now, what's up with that? For the first year of its release it was overstocked... not it doesn't even exist in inventories or records anywhere. Shame. Enjoy!
Pretty Cool.......2005-06-05
Jack Dangers is good at remixes. Good enough that almost any musician could benefit from a remix by Dangers. Just the same, I was surprised by my reaction to some of the tracks on this album. Let's just say that remixes of more well-known songs weren't necessarily better than remixes of more obscure songs. His best stuff takes indie and obscure material and blows it sky-high with Meat-Beat style synths, bass and beats. This may all sound a bit willy-nilly, so let me say this-- yes, fans of Jack Dangers and Meat Beat Manifesto are sure to enjoy this album.
Remarkably solid and diverse remix collection by Dangers.......2002-10-07
A great overview of Dangers's work on other people's music - which is so extensive that no more than a slim sampling could be squeezed into one disc. They did a good job choosing. The first three tracks make the listener feel at home, all of them very well known efforts. It gets more interesting after that, with the spotlight on great but more obscure efforts for the most part (The Shamen and David Byrne may have lapsed back into that category anyway). Dangers' ability to choose interesting subject matter contributes almost as much to this album as his actual talent as a mixer and producer. The obvious risk on this sort of project is of an uneven selection, but this collection is one of the most consistently solid I've seen (with one very unfortunate exception, Freddy Fresh - you will get in the habit of skipping track 8). The appearances by David Bowie, Deepsky Stargazer, Atomic Babies, Banco de Gaia, and Papa Brittle are worth the purchase price alone, delivering an amazingly diverse collection of driven madness tied loosely together by the recognizable drum-n-bass settings and dissonant collage mixtures of Jack Dangers. Bowie's surreal emoting starts to shimmer unnervedly under Dangers's hand; Deepsky and Atomic Babies deliver a pounding electronic dance experience; the Shamen is rescued from its post-Move Any Mountain overmellow rut and made relevant again; Banco de Gaia's sitar meanders down an unpredictable path through an insatiably funky groove; and Papa Brittle is perhaps the most original track, with cagey atmospherics dressing up a mantra-like alternation of rhythmic reggae derivative and a chanted chorus, while a high-flying counterpoint offsets addictive injections of bass. Any fan of Jack Dangers/Meat Beat should thoroughly enjoy this offshoot, along with any fan of the subject artists who digs the remix and is looking for more like it.
