1st essential disk of 2000 for former Rebirth of Cool fans.......2000-03-16
Like a good Rebirth of Cool record back in the old days. This is truly worth your dollar. Its very progressive, great for anyone who used to like acid jazz before it fell off. But it won't be called acid jazz, and rightfully so. Full of small surprises. Track 1, catalyst sounds like 5/4 time, but I'm a hack musician so what do I know. Lots of restraint and subtlety in the groove sequences which I appreciated. None of the vocal treatments sound alike, another bonus. Some you would sing to and others are just vocal jamming, but all enhance the progressive feeling going on. Everything is pretty danceable, but chill too. I didn't know the artists except king britt and the cover is generic. If this is what hip Germans are into, I should be inter-railing to Berlin as soon as possible.
Bottom line, get your girl over, put this on and there will be no quitting until your through. 'Nough said.

Oh my gosh! If you are familar with any of the people on this cd then you do not need to be clued in. For those that would enjoy a quick breakdown, school is in session. Contributions from Catalyst aka Alex Attias, King Britt, Jazznova, Spinning Wheel, Freeform Arkestra, Taxi, Les Gammas, Beanfield etc. If you are already on the trail of whats going down with the neosoul, nujazz scene in West London then this is a definite addition for the collection. Infracom Records from Germany are definately on the pulse of whats happeining and this cd is a perfect indicator of the direction expanding minds will venture. Based around 70's experimentation, early Detroit electronica, and Brazilian rhythms, a hybrid that seems hard to imagine but is a beautiful listening experience. Sound radical? Take the leap...
