I agree (buy this album).......2007-07-11
I don't usually review items but had to stop when I saw this CD had only one review. Paul Durham's voice was made for rock, and the sort of beats/instrumentals that accompany his lyrics are amazing.
This is what rock should be.
Why Is No One Listening To This Amazing Band?.......2007-06-08
I must admit, over the past several years I have become a diehard Black Lab advocate. Paul Durham and Andy Ellis (who self produce) continually deliver first-class music with depth that sadly, most people never have the opportunity to hear. Their previous effort, 'See the Sun', was simply awe-inspiring (Highest Recommendation) and I couldn't wait until the arrival of their next CD.
'Passion' (quietly released in Jan. 07) is spilling over with emotion filled vocals and inspired lyrics that bond with listeners. The amazing opening track, 'Mine Again' reminiscing about memories of a loved one willing to do anything to get them back is a song that will not leave your head and DESERVES radio exposure. Remorse echoes throughout the killer drum beat driven song, `This Night' (Used in the FX Promo for The Shield Season 6) that had me hitting the repeat button over and over. Hiding in the middle of the CD is the very heart of 'Passion'. The ethereal and staggering , 'Weightless'. Paul Durham weaves magic on this song and it will knock your socks off. `Ghost In your Mind', `The Real You', and 'A Day Alone' round out the highlights of the disc.
Although the CD may falter on the last few tracks, as a whole it surpasses most of the pathetic fare heard on the radio today and deserves your attention and your ear. Don't Miss it!

Bananarama makes an enjoyable return to form with this hypnotic blend of dance floor-friendly hi-NRG and cool electronica. With their ninth studio album (their fourth as a duo with original members Keren Woodward and Sara Dallin), the 'Nana's come back to doing what they do best: moving the body while releasing the mind. The album opens with two international dance floor hits: the Kylie-esque "Move In My Direction" and the brilliant "Look on The Floor." The tracks continue to flow seamlessly from one energetic punch to another from there. Halfway through , the breezy charmer "Middle of Nowhere" surprises before switching back into break-out-the-glow-sticks mode with "I Love The Way." Dallin and Woodward have continued as a duo meeting with mixed success, but Drama marks a very welcome return as the girls seem to have all of the essentials in place: glossy production, breathless harmonies, and infectious hooks, all served with a splash of cheeky fabulousness. --Matt Wold

Should have been their Shining Moment in the new millennium.......2007-03-10
I was anxious to hear an astounding modern yet retro dance disc from one of my favorite girl groups of the 80s. Unfortunately, instead of picking up on the latest influence of 80s music in dance music, what we get here is predominantly disco flavored tracks that sound painfully dated, with some Latin tones now and then. The only semi retro/electro tracks on here (and my favorites) are Feel For You, Love Bite, Your Love is Like a Drug, and Marc Almond's remix of Venus. The two lead singles "Move in My Direction" and "Look on the Floor" are not even the strongest tracks! And the remixes on their singles don't make them much better.
I appreciate the commercial direction the girls have taken, but you can still sound mainstream while being more sophisticated than this. Take a listen to the new Madonna or even the Kelly Osbourne(!) to hear some infectious melodies with an 80s flair that don't melt down into total cheese. Unfortunately, I just don't see US radio embracing any of the sounds on this disc.
But of course, fans of Bananarama should still add this one to their collection. It's listenable, if not up to today's standards.
Brilliant.......2007-01-13
This is a tremendous effort by Bananarama, perhaps their best yet. Every single track is good, and nearly half the album is outstanding material. This provides a bridge between the old and new Bananarama, and each and every one of these songs could be remixed into a club smash. If DJ's in the US ignore this release they are just stupid...but then again...anyway, if you are tired of the endless parade of mindless hip-hop drivel, then buy this CD and check it out. It is way better than anything on the radio across the United States. In any genre of music, period. People need to open their minds and ears as Bananarama shows the younger musical acts out there what the term FULL-LENGTH ALBUM means. EVERY SONG IS GOOD. Whether you like old Bananarama or dance-pop electronica in general, your collection is basically empty without this CD. That is how good it is.
THEY'RE BACK, ALIVE AND KICKING!!!.......2006-09-27
Too many words are poverty, as they say in Greece. This is one of the best come-backs you'll come across. A pop-dance cd that will surely get your spirits high. "Look on the floor" and you'll find yourself dancing with the girls from "Venus".
Love It!.......2006-08-30
This album is so much fun. Everytime I listen to it, I imagine being in club surrounded by hot, sweaty people. Your not going to find the meaning of life within these songs, but you will find yourself wanting to turn up the volume and sing along.
"Move In My Direction" & "Look on The Floor" are my favorites!
Modern nostalgia.......2006-08-17
Whatever your view of Bananarama, this is one CD that's worth a listen. Made all the better by the fact that the title rhymes with the group's name.

Product Description
The follow-up to Black Labs critically acclaimed Geffen debut Your Body Above Me (feat. "Wash it Away," Time Ago), See the Sun is a lush, epic union of heartbreak and rock & roll, diamond-cut lyrics set to hard candy melodies, raging guitars and gin-soaked stories of love, loss and redemption. Like U2 and Live and the Goo's getting drunk together. Like a five star hotel, you check in and youre sorry to check out. Their new album has a depth and emotional range that broadens with each listen. Grammy award-winning engineer Tom Lord-Alge (Live, Blink 182) mixed most of the album. What shines brightest is the band's pop sensibility the liquid swirl of "Remember," the epic sweep of "See the Sun," the raging loss of "Without You," and the open-armed surrender of "Lonely Boy." Black Lab has contributed to the soundtracks of Spider Man, Can't Hardly Wait, Varsity Blues, Permanent Midnight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Party of Five, What I Like About You, MTV's The Real World, and most recently, Blade: Trinity.

Another good addition to collection.......2007-02-11
If you like black lab then what can I say you'll enjoy it. I'm not one to analyze every aspect. If it makes feel like moving then that is all I care. I think I almost like it better than their first. You won't waste your money.
Amazing CD.......2007-01-05
I've had this cd for over 2 months now and I can't stop listening to it. If you loved Black Lab back in the 90s, you will love them even more. Songs like Lonely Boy and Remember will stay in your mind for days. This is a must buy!!
Perfect!.......2006-12-26
Ever since I heard 'Learn To Crawl' on the Spider-Man Motion Picture Soundtrack I had a thirst to hear more of Black Lab's music. I bought this CD, praying I would not be let down. I wasn't one tiny bit. I LOVE this CD! I wasn't too pleased with Your Body Above Me, which I found moderately okay. I found this much superior. The only song I didn't like was Ecstasy, it just didn't have a catchy beat or lyrics and wasn't very memorable. With awsome songs like 'Lifelike' 'Wide Open' 'Without You' and 'Tell Me Why,' this CD will keep you entertained for hours while you hum along to your favourite songs. The lyrics were insightful and catchy. The music fitted perfectly to each and every song, each song being unique in it's own special way. Buy this CD, it's not a waste of money. Black Lab is an awsome bands which deserves more recognition. After listening for this, I have a thirst for a new album by Black Lab!
great from start to finish.......2006-10-30
This is a great, great CD. It is not as impressive as 'Your Body Above Me', which is truly a masterpeice, but this is a great CD. Fantastic vocals and melodies, unforgettable. A great CD from a truly incredible band. Glad to see they are still around and putting out great music, anxious to hear their next effort.
Don't buy this here.......2006-03-13
This is a very good album by a very underrated post-grunge band. This album is very different from "Your Body Above Me", but it's still a very solid, well-crafted effort. One gripe about it iss how rare it is,m though. It took me forever to find it, and I didn't want to pay $20 for it here, so I searched the internet. There is a webiste called Alternativeaddiction.com (google it). They loved this album, and they sell it for a mere $8 for download. And you pay through PayPal, so its a safe, fast transaction. So do yourself a fovor: but his great album and, if you haven't already, get "Your Body Above Me" (it's better). And buy "See the Sun" on Alternative Addiction's website.
Enjoy!

Scooter Does It Again!.......2007-06-07
I just got this and I definately recommened it to anyone who likes Scooter. I have been a fan of Scooter since 94 and this latest CD just brings him up to a higher level.
I have to agree that Imaginary Battle is the best track although you will be listen to Behind the Cow a lot anyway since it has the KLF back ground to it. Once you get to Imaginary Battle, it will be very difficult to stop listening to it. I suggest just auto repeat so you don`t have to manually go back. They did a good job with Love Is An Ocean, anyone from 95 with the RBM track will be happy.
Scooter has done a good job with making good new tracks while giving respect to other good DJs. I just can not emphasize enough how good Imaginary Battle is however. Just make sure you are moving when you listen to it!!!
And again, the references to the cow are well done and entertaining.
Can the 4th chapter of scooter deliver?.......2007-04-05
The answer so far is yes! This album is not their best but I would still say it is a 10 out of 10 on my rating scale. Favorite track is imaginary battle. The album is part different and part typical scooter.
Scooter's latest.......2007-03-28
This cd compilation is a very good release for a band that has been around in the trance/techno scene for a while. Scooter keeps getting better with age, and every cd they release is a bit different from the last, so, there is always a good mix. I would say that any Scooter fan would NOT be disappointed with this cd. A MUST HAVE!!!

Tough on Crime.......2006-04-25
Awesome! This CD gets better the more you listen to it. Sultry, sexy, and upbeat at the same time. Want to play it over and over again
When she is good, she is very, very good.......2005-11-15
Rebecca Pidgeon is not a newcomer to the public eye. She has appeared in the movie "Heist" and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. But she has been singing since she was a teen, and has releases previous to this CD.
But this is her first new work in six years, and while her previous releases may be illusive, this one highlights her light yet attention grabbing vocals and her ability to write songs that fall into a mix of jazz or folk.
The CD packaging itself presents photos of the artist, with "hand written" track titles, production credits and lyrics. While being artistic, they were a bit difficult to read, and I resorted to the press package.
But it's the material inside on the disk that grabbed my attention. Her vocals are serene, subtle, like floating silk. Most of her tracks on this CD fall into the "jazz" genre and were for the most part impressive like a club singer that stands before the mike wearing a dress that sparkles like her voice. Harmonies are classic in style and only add to the wonderful presentation of the pieces.
There is a mix in of folk styled rhythms with soft and sultry jazz pieces. Both genre seem to mix for the most part, with a few exceptions. You get an impression of a softer "Cheryl Crow" in the title track "Tough on Crime" while presented with the "sexy night club singer" in "Tangerine". "Ordinary Blues" takes on a very definite "Steely Dan" feel but with more subtlety. The addition of Billy Preston on keys and Walter Becker probably adds to that feel in these tracks.
The production values by Larry Klein are smooth, professional and tight! The music is expertly woven to enhance Ms. Pidgeon's softer vocals and bring out the best in her music. "Candid Lady" is an outstanding example of good production and excellent mixing to bring out the vocal work, as is "Tangerine".
The lyrics are intriguing, sometimes resourceful in their content. She phrases them well, and they are understandable as she sings them. Topics range from "gambling ladies" to a lady of the evening in a "Tangerine" dress, to cops to sensational magazines. They all seem to have a common theme, that being some kind of association with crime.
Not every track is a winner. "Learn to Pray", the opening track, seemed lackluster in comparison to some of the other tracks, having a "folksy" feel to it. While I liked "Nasty Guy" it came off a bit soft where it could have taken some hard, strong vocals. The horn made up for some of it, but the lyrical content seemed to call for an "angry woman" type of vocalization.
"Magazine" discusses people types in the headline news, and has a catchy line in the lyrics. Nice melody as well, very likable composition. "Cigarette" again returns the "Steeley Dan" feel with a mystery criminal smoker as the theme.
"The Romance of Everyday Life" has a very jazzy appeal, old fashioned story of love at first sight and the catching of the same. The closing track "Come Back to Sorrento" is upbeat and slightly jazzy, recalling a time of love remembered.
There is a bonus track "Army Brat" which is most definitely folk/country in feel, some interesting lyrics about being an "Army Brat" with a catchy tune, but seemed out of place here.
Rebecca Pidgeon has some interesting music and vocals on this CD. I found the tracks I liked I really liked, but there were a couple of tracks that were uninspiring or not in tune with the rest of the feel of the CD. There is a definite feel of "Steely Dan" to the production of the music, but the lyrics and vocals are all Ms. Pidgeon's. Her voice works well with the sultry pieces but some of her compositions seemed to be calling for something a bit stronger.
I liked her style, her compositions overall were well developed and her lyrics are noteworthy, keeping with the theme of the CD and even having some memorable lines. This is a nice introduction to Ms. Pidgeon I look forward to this developing into future presentations. mafoster

Good electronic-music; second disc rules; a great D.I.V. starting place........2006-03-10
I purchased this two-disc set for 14 bucks at a used-music store, mainly because of the cover's eerie drawings, and I expected the music to match the look and feel of the cover-art. I was dead wrong, but that wasn't necessarily horrible. SATAN'S CIRCUS has a very happy feel to it, and one is hard-pressed to admit that he / her has never gotten the urge to jump up and perform the "robot" dance while listening to this album (it happens almost every time I listen to). I knock off a few points for having misleading cover-art, but it loses more points for being repetitive, unoriginal, and having annoying drums that don't come anywhere near complimenting the keyboards and exquisite sampling. Overall, SATAN'S CIRCUS' first disc is a huge disappointment from such a promising band like Death In Vegas.
All hope is not lost, however, because the second disc is a true gem. Not only do all the songs sound wonderful (which is becoming increasingly rare with most modern live-discs) and flow together effortlessly, but they sound subtly different then their album versions, and in some cases, they even surpass their album-counterparts. None of them are featured on the first SATAN'S CIRCUS disc, so you have no worries about overlapping tracks whatsoever (even if you own all of D.I.V.'s previous albums). I find myself listening to the live-disc more and more, and sadly, the first disc is acquiring quite a bit of dust as the days pass by.
The good (but not great) tracks on disc one that aren't too terrible are "Sons Of Rother," "Head," and "Heil Xanax" (the later being the only track on the first disc matching the gothic cover-art). As for the second disc, all the tracks are wonderful, except the overly-drawn-out intro "Leather." My personal faves are "Flying," "Help Yourself" (both bare a close resemblance to Bilinda Butcher's sensual voice), "Scorpio Rising" (which sounds startling different then the one off of its original album), and my favorite of either of the discs, "Hands Around My Throat". It's truly one of the best songs of all time. Emotional, tragic, sarcastic (at times), and brilliantly preformed, it is one of the best album-closers of all time (akin to Joy Division's "The Eternal" and NIN's "Ring-finger").
Bottom line is that, while this album is a treat to listen to, it's not very good. However, I do recommend it as a wonderful starting place for people interested in D.I.V. (mainly because of the live disc). It probably doesn't deserve it, but I'm going to grant it 4-stars simply because of the second-disc. Now I must leave, and please forgive my liberal use of parenthesis (I can't help it, I swear!).
CAUTION.......2006-03-07
As one previous reviewer pointed out: these two discs are vastly different in both texture and effect. I found this dual CD at Hastings for like 6 bucks, and by the end of the first disc I was totally ready to try and sell it to my buddy or another used shop for 3-5 bucks. But, when I put in the second disc to confirm the set was crap, I was suddenly suprisingly won over (perhaps to the point of eventually legitimizing the first disc). The texture changes drastically from long, minimal, uneventful, very mechanized feeling loops that just sit there (disc #1) to instrumental/atmospheric synth rock that really gets up and participates with the listener (disc #2). My interest in this group starts with my buddy trying to turn me on to them. This guy loves Kraftwerk, but loves dub style music even more. I fear he too will have mixed feelings about Satan's Circus (pun intended), because althought it is absolutly drenched with the influence of the droning loops of groups like Kraftwerk and even Front 242 or Nitzer Ebb, what it sorely lacks is the identity lent to those groups due to them having vocals, and my friend should be dissapointed to discover Death in Vegas being absent of Dub almost entirely (on both discs). Disc two is proof enough that vocals are not the only solution, but it's also proof that disc one's approach is consistently both sterile and almost painfully monotonous (I like industrial and I hate techno). I compose beats myself and I understand the ethics of droning loops, but I must say that I have completly failed to put this release into any context that can justify Death In Vegas resorting to such a dated sound--only breifly nostalgic or retro really, but mostly just dated and mundane. This is especially sad since the second disc goes so far as to prove what Crystal Method lack, which is an organic and beleivable flow to their hi-fi synth fuled rock anthems (CM depend on guests). I trully beleive that Death in Vegas had the chance to come out and crush all the post-techno dance duos trying to inch into live band territory (and out of the decaying American rave scene), but instead they emerged with a batting average just below the new Chemical Brothers CD and WAY below the new Prodigy CD. None the less, I am keeping it in hopes that it might grow on me.
Hypnotic . . ........2006-01-09
. . . mechanical, repetitive, kinda trippy -- the songs on SATAN'S CIRCUS (disc 1) are all slowly evolving instrumentals. To me, this is great chill out/coming down music. Great background music for working on the computer or whatever. Truthfully, I'm not sure why else you'd listen to it. It's not exactly rockin'. I wouldn't say it qualifies as party music (not for your average party at least). It's cool though.
On the other hand, the bonus live CD sounds much more like a rockin' good time. The audience definitely sound like they enjoyed themselves. Consisting of two guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, plus whatever main members Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes do, the live band changes up the original recordings enough to keep things interesting. This stuff is loaded with cool beats and bubbling electronics. Sometimes the atmosphere gets pretty heavy and intense, other times, it's gorgeous and serene. Although most people wouldn't call these guys musical geniuses or anything, what they do here is very cool and pretty tripped out. You can really groove on this one.
Both of these disks are very good in their own way at doing what they're intended to do, so for that I recommend this release. Most people seem to prefer their dubby debut DEAD ELVIS over everything else, but my fav Death In Vegas by far is still CONTINO SESSIONS - I recommend getting that one first if yer new to DIV.

Customer Reviews:
It was OK, I guess........2007-02-07
The opening track is great, however, I bought the cd in anticipation of hearing the rendition of the fourth verse of the Star Spangled Banner from the football game and it wasn't there at all. I have never heard the that piece of music performed so magnificently! But I guess this is a characteristic of "sound tracks"; some items in the movie soundtrack don't seem to make it to the soundtrack you buy from the store.
Travesty.......2006-03-14
One of Goldsmith's last scores, we get the ruined versions of the main tune. Goldsmith had it right, and in Hebrew. The Yolanda versions are awful.
This is one of those albums completely unfaithful the the true genius of the composer.
good but the ordering was kind of off.......2003-08-25
this cd had great pieces but some of the pieces where out of place such as "If We Can Get Through This" but overall it is a good cd
Goog Work.......2003-04-08
The Sum Of All Fears soundtrack CD is a perfect work. 90% of the songs fits with the film action. On the other hand if the composer could work on it with gathering the songs together in harmony and adding all the instruments of a symphony orchestra, it will be a symphonic poem.
The sum of a great soundtrack.......2002-12-20
With Basil Poledouris and James Horner that did previous Tom Clancy films, Jerry Goldsmith steps in and delivers a great score to the latest film, The Sum of All Fears. The soundtrack starts and ends with a song written by Goldsmith (he wrote the music, which becomes the theme) called "If We Could Remember" which is performed by Yolanda Adams. This song should be nominated for an Academy Award because of its outstanding music and lyrics. The second track "The Mission" includes "If We Could Remember", this time performed by Shana Blake Hill, with a 2 note middle eastern theme thrown in. Goldsmith uses a chorus throughout several of the tracks in a Russian like manner to convey the setting of the film. "The Bomb" is a great track which features chorus, low brass, percussion, and synths. "That Went Well" features the choir and brass playing that haunting Russian theme that I talked about earlier. Really the only 2 action cues are found in "Clear the Stadium" and "Real Time" which represent the suspense styles Goldsmith used in Air Force One and possibly U.S. Marshals with sixteenth note string passages. "The Same Air" concludes the score with the "If We Could Remember" theme and that 2 note middle eastern theme. "If We Could Get Through This" is a decent song thrown in the middle of the score that should have been at the very beginning or very end so it doesn't get in the way of the score. The same thing can be said about "Nessun Dorma" which is a great piece performed by Bruce Sledge in an opera like fashion. Concluding the soundtrack is a reprise of "If We Could Remember". To sum it all up, this is a great soundtrack that shows Goldsmith at his best. I wish the 2 themes were used much more often than they were, which is why a 5 star rating is lacking. But, a great soundtrack and a must have.

Not a blast a from the past.......2006-06-07
It's true, don't expect a pharcyde album. This is a new and grown man Fatlip. He detailed some of his struggles while on hiatus. I thought it would be wack but upon 1st listen I was impressed. His flows are fluid, lyrics are strong with content, the beats are dope and the album flows well.....what more can you ask for out of a Hip Hop record? You previous reviewers should know better than to write these poor reviews considering the garbage state Rap is in now....You know this album is better than most albums out these days........So save it.
Fatlip was my intro for years!!!.......2006-04-08
I used "Whats Up Fatlip? for years spinning and that man is dope.... DJ TCO
This is good!.......2006-03-28
This is a great album, not album of the year or anything but a cool side of Fatlip, after a long break. A lot of hot tracks and a different delivery.
Not bad, meaning not good........2006-03-21
The main problem with this album is that there are multiple tracks produced by different producers. This makes the album less cohesive than previous original Pharcyde endeavors produced by Jay Dee and crew. Some the tracks are definately filler (under a minute or less than two minutes) that showcase questionable skills (see the Freestyle track). Sadly the tracks that shine are the old "Whats Up Fatlip" single and "Freaky Pumps" featuring Shock G/Humpty Hump. If this compilation (I would dare any of y'all to consider this a bonafide album) was priced even lower than how Delicious Vinyl marketed it as a budget release, it may justify a higher rating. Anyone notice that this release coincided with the Pharcyde's Instrumentals release? Who's laughing it all the way to the bank, now?
Disappointing.......2006-03-09
My friend was raving about this CD, so I thought I'd pick it up used. And wow, I was very disappointed.
I don't remember Fatlip sounding like this at all back in the day. Basically if you were a fan of the old classic Pharcyde albums, you probably won't dig this at all.
Fatlip doesn't sound corny, cool, goofy, or fun like he did back in his heyday with Pharcyde. There's a rougher, harder edge to him on this album.
There were a couple of songs that were good, but definitely not in the Pharcyde-style of music. It sounds like a completely different artist. He's gotten old, bitter, and tougher over the last decade, which is sad. Not even a Chali 2na cameo could save this one.
Is hip-hop not fun anymore, Fatlip?

Music for Any Occasion.......2006-04-17
This collaboration between Northey and Valenzuela is a great album for almost anything. Driving, work, relaxing, you name it. I'm not sure you'll like it after the first time around, but after a few listens, it starts to grow on you. The vocals are just about alternated between the two singers, and while I'm not too familiar with Northey's music, Valenzuela's songs are similar to those on "Tunes Young People Will Enjoy," his previous solo album, which I also highly recommend. Here is a breakdown of the songs, with a rating.
"Talk To Yourself"-(8/10)-Great opener! A song about helping a friend in trouble, but not until this friend decides he needs help.
"Counting On You"-(8/10)-Bluesy, catchy, and fast-paced. A classic example of good guitar work
"Something Good"-(9/10)-Relaxing love song, I think someone told me it's a cover
"Bulletproof Jacket"-(3/10)-I know the rating seems harsh, and I hate to say it, but Jesse managed to mess up his own song. The version on TYPWE is slower and more emphatic, with this version being choppy and rushed.
"See Through Heart"-(7/10)-Short, but good use of the organ (I think it's an organ!) and the vocals and intrumentals are in perfect balance.
"Not a Lot Goin' On"-(8/10)-The theme song to the popular Canadian show "Corner Gas," this is a great use of key change, and the lyrics paint a great picture.
"Let It Go"-(9/10)-Just great! I don't even want to describe it and ruin it for you :-)
"Slow Goodbye"-(8/10)-Remember what I said about driving music? Here you go!
"The Little Things"-(6/10)-Something light just to keep the album moving along.
"Halfway to Happy"-(6/10)-Spartan instruments help you focus on the lyrics, which deserve some focusing. Supposedly about songwriting, but it's open to whatever you think.
"She Belongs"-(11/10)-Hands down the best song on the album! Great vocals and chord changes, not to mention lyrics that will conjure up a dream
"Borrowing Trouble"-(8/10)-Kind of country/blues/rock, with some fun, bright lyrics
"Hurting on the Outside"-(8/10)-Slow and relaxing ballad, great closer.
It doesn't matter what kind of music you like or where you're from, there's probably at least 3 or 4 songs here that will resonate.
So...BUY THIS ALBUM!
