Wonderful CD.......2007-02-08
This High Def Surround Sound CD Superdisc is great. You can really appreciate the fullness of the sound with this process.
Surrounded by Genius.......2007-02-07
I'll admit to being fascinated by anything in surround-sound but the high-definition process used by Monster for the Superdiscs is phenomenal, putting you right there in the recording booth with the artists.
Highly recommended and versatile package includes Dolby and DTS tracks plus something not found elsewhere: digital files for your MP3 player in Dolby Headphone Surround.
You will not find better sound technology than this. A highly recommended album.
Simply fantastic.......2007-01-26
Very nice ....but..........2006-12-20
I already have this item as a sacd and it sounds great, I got it to see what was changed as I have a Pioneer Elite receiver and DVD player that can handle everything this disc has. On my home unit there was not much differant from the SACD but there was a little better sound from the SUPERDISC. But the SUPERDISC sounds great on my car, I play the DVD in the car and it sounds great, I can't play SACD's in the car. The 2 additional tracks are no reason to get this disc.
Excellent recording quality..........2006-11-03
The DVD has a lot of extras and the CD is excellent quality. A great buy.

Product Description
Two Jazz Greats Finally Collaborate. Jazz/crossover legends George Benson and Al Jarreau have been dazzling audiences with their live performances and studio work (13 Grammy Awards between them) for the last three decades. Slated to tour together in the summer of 2006, George and Al decided to take it one step further: record an album together of classic and original material. An all-star cast headed by Stanley Clarke, Chris Botti, Marcus Miller and even Paul McCartney, contributed their musical genius to Givin' It Up. Soul divas Jill Scott and Patti Austin pair off for guest vocal duets with George and Al, respectively. Legends Sound Even Better on SuperDisc. Besides the stereo disc included for your CD player or car stereo, Monster Music brings you Benson, Jarreau and company in full HDS High Definition Surround on a SuperDisc for your DVD player. Better than normal stereo, music in High Definition Surround puts you right in the middle of the music. It's exciting, moving, and the way the artists intended you to hear it. And for audiophiles, there are High Definition Stereo tracks in 96K/24-bit lossless audio. SuperDisc Delivers A Surround Experience From Your iPod. Direct from the master recordings are High Definition Digital Music files ready to download to any computer or portable music player that supports WMA (Windows), or AAC (Apple, iPod). Even better are Dolby Headphone music files that simulate surround sound through any pair of headphones.

Outstanding studio quality surround sound.......2007-06-02
The pairing of these two jazz greats was a great idea; what took them so long?!?
In addition to the musical quality of each track, the 5.1 separation, clarity and audio quality is definitely THE BEST I'VE HEARD. From the crisp high frequencies to the broad foundations of the bass, the sound immerses you into an audio experience that can't be described in a simple review - you have to hear it for yourself.
Monster has a great thing going - but their catalog is rather limited right now. I own all of these surround sound releases and hope to see many more published in the near future.
OUTSTANDING!!
Givin It Up.......2007-05-09
I would rate 5 for the DVD audio. Superb recording quality. I would rate 3 for the cd audio, the quality of recording is average.

Customer Reviews:
Monster of a recording.......2006-07-29
I've been a TOP fan since the 70's and have recently been replacing my vinyl with CD's. This was a new listen for me as I have never seen it in stores. Wow, what a great recording. Only one song fails to get full marks, (synchopation, with an off-putting lyric that sounds like it was recorded for another song). Just my opinion of course. Otherwise a really strong effort that gets the feet tappin and the fingers poppin.
Interesting...overproduced.......2005-11-11
This disc has more of a pop feel than most of what TOP had done prior to this time. That causes problems for some listeners. My own argument against this disc has always been that it is too slick and overproduced...which, as others have noted, was typical of the early 90s.
Nonetheless, there are several great songs, along with a sprinkling of not-so-bad material on this disc. Standouts include If You Can't Fall Up, Personal Possessions, Miss Trouble, How Could This Happen and Attitude Dance. There are other listenable songs, as well.
If you liked the band's raw funk from the 70s or the synthesized stuff from the 80s, this disc will probably be disappointing...unless you have an open mind. I personally think the songs on Monster are well-crafted and performed. The production values are the album's biggest drawback.
THE 80'S ARE OVER -- GET ON WITH THE FUNK -- AGAIN!!!.......2004-08-20
Say what you will about this Tower Of Power CD, it has some very good tunes on it. After a very bad lull of electrified, synthisized, pre-programmed, horn chorus-filled, undignified pretentious "music" (and I use the term loosely) during the 80s, when the premium was on formula rather than substance, and the record producers and club owners had pretty much outlawed REAL bands (you know the ones with real bass players, real guitar players, real horns, and a real drummer), Tower Of Power came back ready to play. Sit back while I tell you how I really feel!!
In the 70s, when I was in college, Tower Of Power was unlike any other band because they crossed all types of music and cultures. It moved me because it was real, gritty funk. Those guys were funky. They didn't call it East Bay Grease for nothing! And that's what everyone loved about them. The music was uncompromising and free and that led to their appeal.
In the 80s, the dynamic of the music business changed. My opinion was that the club owners dictated a lot of what was happening. Music was in a growth period. And financially, it was more advantageous to have smaller groups to pay than larger ones. So horn-based groups tended to break up. TOP didn't break up, but they had to deal with the trends of the day, that included horn chorus interfaces on keyboards that eliminated the need for full horn sections; the development and refinement of drum machines; the infusion of disco/techno music and the beginnings of rap, which meant the beginning of sampling, rather than full-fledged song development. Everyone was too busy or too high to deal with a lot of lyrics that made sense or complicated rhythms and song changes. Simple was better.
So TOP and other groups were highly inactive during the 80s. The albums they put out with disco overtones were not very good. That wasn't what they cut their teeth on, and their enthusiasm, or lack of it, showed on the albums. So this is their first of many albums during the 90s. And they went back to the formula that worked. No cheesy synths on this, no disco beat. Just the formula. East Bay Grease.
Is this a classic album? Maybe not, but it's enjoyable to say the very least, and there are some memorable songs on it. The single "YOU CAN'T FALL UP" was not one of my favorites. The sax solo doesn't crank up until the song is over. Not good. Especially for a sax player.
I do have my favorites though. I really like "PERSONAL POSSESSIONS". The guitar solo is a thing of beauty and the song is reminiscent of some of their earlier mid-tempo jams. The horns work very well against the melody. Also good are "MISS TROUBLE", "A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE" and "MR. TOAD'S WILD RIDE", in honor of one of their favorite east coast clubs. Tom Bowes is an excellent lead singer and did a reputable job on this album.
Before you're overly critical of this album, consider the times and what had gone on in music up to that time. Someone already wrote that it was good driving music -- and that, my friends, is something we all need. You won't lose with this one in your collection.
Pretty Good.......2004-07-24
TOP is better than this. But this isn't a bad CD. "You Can't Fall Up (You Just Fall Down)" is a very good song. I recommend this CD.
finally got the cd and ewww!.......2004-07-02
in the 2 months since i wrote the previous review, i have packed my bags, crossed the pacific, and am now living in san francisco...just a bridge away from top's hometown of oakland. i finally got myself a copy of "monster on a leash." (from the $3.95 clearance bin of rasputin records!) it sucks. couldn't hold a candle to any of top's records from the 70's. yet i still couldn't stop playing the song "you can't fall up." and tho i still love top, i can't recommend you shelling out any money for this clunker. stick to the older stuff.

Customer Reviews:
CD included is NOT the remastered version.......2006-12-19
Well, I've ended up purchasing both of the new releases of the original Charlie Brown Christmas music: this one (the DVD/CD release) and also the remastered version just on CD (with the yellow background cell artwork on the cover).
On this release, you get a DVD and a CD. For some reason, the CD included is NOT the remastered stereo version. It appears to be just a reissue of the original Fantasy Records release on CD. Without the remastering, the sound is brighter, but also much noisier. Some, however, seem to prefer the original, especially if it's what they grew up listening to.
The DVD, on the other hand, has the new, beautifully remastered (some would say re-mixed) versions, in a variety of surround formats, etc. I haven't played them on a surround system, but even just listening to the high-definition stereo tracks through headphones was truly wonderful. Oddly, the songs are not in the same order as on the original release.
Now, about the digital sound files that are included on this DVD for your iPod. The liner notes claim that these files provide a better sound than if you were to rip them from the CD yourself. Well, this is true if you just take the CD that came with this package and rip the files -- because you are then comparing the original release with the remastered version.
Not good enough.
So I went back to the store and bought the remastered CD, and ripped those to iTunes using the Apple Lossless conversion. The result? The files that I ripped myself have about twice the bit rate as the ones provided on the DVD here. They don't sound "twice as good," but on good headphones they do sound clearer, more distinct, and more alive than the pre-made versions on the DVD. Musically, they appear to be identical in terms of the take, the mix, etc. (I haven't confirmed this for every single track).
It's a bit misleading that on the back of the package, this DVD/CD release mentions compatibility with "Apple Lossless," as if they had provided digital files already encoded for you in Apple Lossless. They have not. The files provided have a bit rate of 320 kbps, less than half the bit rate of the Apple Lossles files I ended up ripping from the remastered CD release.
Overall, I'm certainly not sorry I purchased this DVD/CD package, or the remastered CD. The remastered CD is great for the car or office, and provided the best files for my iPod. This DVD, on the other hand, is great for a home theater or DVD-based audio system that can take advantage of the surround and/or hi-definition stereo, and hey, it includes the original recording on CD as a bonus!
I would call this a 5-star release, but I am deducting one star just because of the lack of clarity and slight misrepresentation in the packaging about what's included. I applaud Monster Music for the job they have done with these recordings, but they should know that people who invest in these sorts of releases would like to have as much ACCURATE information as possible about what they are buying.
Better Than Ever..........2006-05-14
This was amazing-it is hard to believe that they have never gone back to the original session tapes and remixed this before now. It is just like they are in the room with you with Vince spread across the front channels and the drums and bass coming from the rear. A real must for all fans!

100% BLISS.......2000-11-06
This CD is 100% bliss; great performances in awsome recordings. I just wish all the great artists' works would be re-recorded with HDCD. Let it be known that HDCD sounds great on conventional CD players too, but on an HDCD player you wonder why the record industry is not gobbling it up. I would be willing to rebuy my 250 CD collections all over again!

Album Description
Featuring one of today's hottest power trios, this double-CD live set chronicles the 1997 Rock Across America Tour of over 140 cities. The set features over 100 minutes of hard driving, straight-forward instrumental rock music delivered with a funk-tinged groove and infused with progressive jazz sensibilities. Snap, Crackle & Pop...Live! includes three tracks from Rock's scorching debut, Out of Body, three tracks from Zaza's critically acclaimed Sing, a blistering version of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way", plus extended solos from all three musicians.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent musicianship, No taste.......2005-05-27
This album is all flash and no taste. Trust me, I enjoy some over-the-top musicianship, but this music just leaves you bored. There is no art, just chops.
Admittedly, these musicians are some of the most talented that I have ever heard. If you are into that kind of thing, this is all you, buddy! Personally, I would pick up some cds from similiar bands that have both musicianship and creativity, such as Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Joe Satriani, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chris Poland, King Crimson, etc.
Peerless musicianship, intensity, and groove!!.......2003-03-23
Live instrumental rock at its absolute best. Where to begin showering praise upon this gem...
Neil Zaza combines the melodic instinct of Satriani with advanced technical mastery and intensity. Showing diversity in his compositional side is the album's intro, which sounds like an sparkling electric sitar. His shredding is furious and creative (see his guitar solo), but another side is revealed with a sensitive rendition of "Amazing Grace", with guitar tones to die for. His song "I'm Alright" is ultra-melodic featuring hooks to rival the best of Satriani. Another Zaza track, "Hailin'", breaks down into jaw-dropping solo spots for Zaza and Dickens before making a reprise.
Bill Dickens' ranks up there with the finest bass players I've ever heard, in many ways. Despite his unfathomable virtuosity, his playing within the context of the songs is very tasteful and understated. His note choice and timing complements each song perfectly, and even his mind-blowing speed is just a means to an end. Then his bass solo comes along....and it's simply disgusting -- I still don't comprehend how it is humanly possible to play the bass like this (no, really). Even the incredible Victor Wooten is in awe of the Buddha -- that's saying something, I think.
Bobby Rock is easily the _grooviest_ rock drummer I have ever heard after Nick D'Virgilio. His jazz knowledge creeps into play at times during his interplay with the Buddha. On disc 1, 19-minute drum solo "Quadzilla" is probably the single most impressive thing I have heard on a drum kit. His four bass drum, four high-hat setup allows for incredible ambidexterity and there is so much musicality and groove to his playing. Wild single-stroke snare rolls, double-stroke bass drum rolls, 32nd note furies, tribal beats, Latin percussion pieces...you get the works and it's all awesome. His drum kit would probably fill up my entire living room.
Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" starts off the set, injected with a funky breakdown where the musicians play off of each other. Each also gets chance to nab the spotlight, so the crowd gets a short-but-sweet taste of everyone's instrumental domination before things REALLY get crazy. Some Bobby Rock songs follow, "Lightworker" and "Fearless", both scorching instrumental rock. A funkified version of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" ends disc 1 after the colossal drum solo. On disc 2, "Jungle Groove" is a funky jam-like song. Performances on everything are jaw-dropping technically, but these guys also lend an good ear to song and structure.
Simply a great, great album. A must-buy for any fan of instrumental rock or anyone who wants to hear the most amazing bass playing on the entire planet.
oh yeah, the bhudda is the best bassist I've ever heard.......2000-10-28
He plays faster than most guitar players, and has incredible jazz knowledge. Rarely do you come across someone this fast with such good understanding of what he's playing.
Wow, Zaza is a melodic god.......2000-10-28
I've been a guitar fan for a long time and never have I ever seen anyone as melodic as Zaza. His compositional skills are amazing (check out i'm alright and the intro) and his technical wizardry is truly astonishing. I'm alright is still my favorite guitar song EVER, over anything of malmsteen, moore, impelliteri, gilbert, etc! becker is a close second when it comes to composition. If you like Satriani's melodicism and george bellas' techincal wizardry, this is for you!
Neil Zaza is great!.......1999-11-19
If you like Buckethead fast picking, George Lynch tone, Paul Gilbert clean arpeggios and Greg Howe SHREDDING hammer-ons this double CD is for you! All tracks are interesting, specially Aerosmith's "Walk this way" and "I'm allright". I also recommend his prevous releases SING and TWO HANDS, ONE HEART!
