Anyone who witnessed Sting's savagely comic diaper-wearing performance in Dune or heard Don Johnson's mid-'80s recordings can state with authority that actors and singers are generally safer within their own realms. There have been notable exceptions of course--Bowie in the Man Who Fell to Earth, for instance and, to a lesser extent, hunky actor Russell Crowe with TOFOG. An acronym for Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts, TOFOG finds Crowe singing and co-songwriting unremarkable, frequently downcast barroom rock along with an otherwise unknown squad of Aussie mates. Having set the bar relatively low, Crowe and his cohorts manage to acquit themselves here without too much damage, although their conceit of being just a bunch of regular Joes cranking out melodic, serviceable rock--a point driven home by frequent, chummy bits of between-song chat among the members--is a bit rich. Nevertheless, Crowe's voice is both pleasant and in tune and he's clearly reaching for poetic plateaus within his lyrics. Poppier songs such as "Sail Those Same Oceans" clip along on a strumming electric guitar part and TOFOG sweep the peanut shells up off the tavern floor in the careening "Things Have Got to Change." Bastard Life or Clarity only goes south when Crowe attempts to demonstrate how in touch he is with the female psyche (no, really) in the maudlin "Wendy." Every bit as silly as it sounds. --Kim Hughes

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Why did he venture into music?.......2006-06-30

I'm almost terrified to write this review for the fact he might come beat me up.

Come ON, people... this is just another side of Crowe's ego thinking he is some wonderful thing. Yes, he's a good actor, but singer? The songs are less than mildly pleasing and he has absolutely NO depth to his voice whatsoever. I would never recommend this to anyone, and just might go back to listening to Telly Savalas' 'If'.

5 out of 5 stars Surpisingly Good!.......2005-10-02

As others have implied in other reviews, it's true, we wouldn't know about this band had it not been for Russell Crowe. That being true, it does not take away from the credibility of the band itself, they make excellent music and put on a great live show.

My favourite tracks are "Things Have Got to Change" -- this has a really good horn solo on it, "Sail Those Same Oceans" which has a great theme (also a great video), "Somebody Else's Princess" very upbeat, & "Wendy".

5 out of 5 stars My Comments on Russel Crowe's Music.......2005-08-07

Russel Crowe has a deep, haunting (beautiful)voice that is perfect for the style of this CD. His band, by the way - is musically superb. These are not amatures. And neither is Russell Crowe. He is honest and heartfelt - and since he isn't out pimping himself taking money for uncool ads abroad(like so many other 'celebrities')that, in my book, makes him credible all the way. By the way, the lower and deeper he sings - the better!

5 out of 5 stars TOFOG makes the world go round.......2004-10-25

I saw them (TOFOG) on Soundstage (PBS) and fell in love. I mean, their music reaches me more than Crowe's acting - Although he is amazing at that too! I listen to this CD everyday on my way to work, and must recommend it to all.
Good listening!

5 out of 5 stars Just plain good music.......2003-08-22

WOW. Attitude adjustment: The thinking should not be "What? Russell Crowe, the actor, can sing?" but rather "What? Russell Crowe, the singer, can act?" At the risk of being redundant, wow. If sex had a voice, it would sound like Russell Crowe, but that's just my opinion (I could be wrong). Interestingly, when I went to (many) music stores today to find more by this group (I am wearing out this CD...), only one had any of their CD's. I then discovered that "Gaslight" seems to be this same CD but with a few more songs--don't know if any are missing, I just glanced and moved on when I saw all the duplications. You might want to look into that.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Rough and ready, Russel ROCKS!.......2003-04-17

I first purchased Bastard Life or Clarity, and I was hooked. GASLIGHT is a previous CD, and has two tracks that were re-recorded in studio for BLOC. This is Aussie folk-ROCK, which is all about storytelling, and Russell can really tell a story! 'Circus' is a mellow and pleasant piece; 'You Treat Me Like Chocolate..."something you shouldn't touch between meals....instead of having at it...." is a slightly mournful plea to a lover. 'Oblique is My Love' and 'what's Her Name' are harder rocking bits with a great beat. "it's a wonder that I get any sleep....I ache for more of--what's her name".
'The Legend of Barry Kable is a fabulous live recording, great story. I can't decide if I like this or the studio version better, so I keep listening to both! This song alone is worth buying the CD for. 'What You Want Me To Forget' and 'Nowhere' are catchy rock tunes, the latter with a bit of rap thrown in (somehow it works); 'Wendy' is a terrific story about a single mom "she's got no husband, but who cares...she can find a man--any time she wants one. Don't you put her down, she tried to do it right, but sometimes things don't come out quite...the way we plan them......" Great lyrics, 'Wendy' was rerecorded for BLOC, its a bit rougher but more heartfelt here. There's an annoying 6 minutes of silence on the CD between this song and the next 3 "bonus" (unlisted) tracks, which are all decent songs, if not terribly special. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing Bastard Life Or Clarity along with this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, Russell can sing and write music!.......2003-03-27

I bought this CD after stumbling on TOFOG-BLOC at the local Borders Books and music. I loved BLOC and Gaslight! It's hard to believe that one man can write, sing, and act...and be good at all three! But then again, Russell has been signing and writing with Dean Cochran since they were teenagers...If you like good, down to earth Rock-n-Roll, buy TOFOG CDs!!!!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars TOFOG Shows Promise.......2002-10-03

I was so impressed by TOFOG's live L.A. show in August 2001 that I couldn't pass up buying "Gaslight" when I saw it was available for purchase after the concert. I discovered that this band is much stronger on stage than "Bastard Life or Clarity" suggested.

Although "Gaslight" is not the greatest album, there are some gems, namely "Circus," "Oblique Is My Love," "What's Her Name," "Eternity," and two unlisted bonus tracks, "Castle Builder" and "Danielle." Then there are "She's Not Impressed," "David," and "What You Want Me To Forget?", admittedly weaker songs that I nevertheless like, partly because I can still picture them being performed more than a year after the concert.

Owning both "BLOC" and "Gaslight," I have to say my frustration with Crowe's vocals is that he sometimes (surprisingly) "holds back" in the studio recordings. (A notable exception is "Things Have Got to Change," a *great* song from "BLOC" and my personal favorite.) That's why I think "Oblique Is My Love" and "What's Her Name" are two of their best songs; they are live recordings that show their strengths as a band.

Overall, I enjoy TOFOG's music. They have a good sound and seem to have a good time making music together, which is always a treat. Even though they are a much better band live than the weaknesses in their albums might suggest, I'd still recommend giving their music a try.

4 out of 5 stars Singing Crowe.......2002-09-06

Loved the live stuff....made me want to rush out and see TOFOG live..sounds like they put on an awesome show...Seems that Mr. Crowe can rock the house too.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I hoped..........2002-08-16

I bought this CD before it was even available in the States. I was really excited about it because I'm a fan of Russell Crowe. Sadly, I was a little disappointed. There a few ok songs on here, but its mostly unforgettable. It's a good thing Russell is an amazing actor because his music career isn't the most impressive...at least not yet...

Album Description

So There is Steve Swallow's music for string quartet, piano and electric bass - inspired by

and featuring the poetry of Robert Creeley (1926 - 2005), one of the most important American

poets of the 20th century.

The album is a unique and hugely enjoyable synthesis of words and music, and includes

Creeley's last recordings before his untimely death.

Swallow recorded Creeley reading his poems in upstate New York, wrote new music around

the poet's speech rhythms, then flew to Oslo to complete the project with Steve Kuhn and the

Cikada String Quartet.

Delivering one of the great performances of his life, pianist Steve Kuhn shows the broad

range of his technique, from intensely melodic invention to free swirling sound masses,

inspired by Swallow's string quartet writing and the laconic readings of Creeley.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This is what it's all about.......2007-03-23

If I were to say only one thing here- it would be my recommendation that you get a copy of this magnificent CD for your own. You'll thank yourself for it! This is deep and beautiful and touching. I haven't enjoyed or been moved by music and words this way in a very long time. Steve Swallow is a genius. Steve Kuhn has never sounded better, the strings are perfect and Robert Creeley truly had his finger on it. This is the human condition played to perfection. I'm buying it many times over to give to friends.

4 out of 5 stars This is a treasure on several fronts.......2007-02-07

Most notably, it presents Robert Creeley reading some of his memorable verse with sympathetic and imaginative accomapniement from Steve Swallow and his colleagues. This sin't Alan Ginsburg riffing with beatnick music, but two artists that are trying to get under the surface of each other's talents and shake the kaleidoscope up a bit. Largely, it all works. You will never listen to this at a party - it's something for your own soul, late at night when you are alone.
In that regard it puts me in mind of two other very moving collaborations: the CD by Liam O Flynn and Seamus Heaney from the mid-90's that evokes not just rural Northern Ireland, but that very essential Celtic Twilight that seems to enchant the soul; and the collaboartion among Bryan Murphy and Padraig Mc Giolla, with musician Breege Costello, called Ceolta na Sidhe - a Gaelic effort between Murphy and and Mc Giolla with incredibly haunting effects generated by Ms Costello.
In any case, that poetry and improvisational music should combine in a double helix is no surprise. That it continues to do so so effectively is a wonderful treat for the human soul in this troubled times.

5 out of 5 stars bastard life or clarity.......2002-10-07

This is one of the best cd I own. I love it. Can't say enought about it other than most of the songs are about something personal that has happen to the band. Russel Crowe wrote most of the songs and they are great. I think he sings as well as he does movies. He enjoys it and it shows. His voice is great and the songs give you a since of who he is as person. I very loving man. I hope hollywood never changes him..

4 out of 5 stars how lucky can you get?.......2002-07-25

How lucky can Russell Crowe fans get? No need to wade through poorly conducted interviews by writers with a point to make - just listen to the stories and let Russ and his mates tell us what they are thinking. OK, so I only gave it 4 stars, but that is because it is too short. If you are a musical purist, you will hate it, but if you are into odd lyrics or what makes Russell Crowe tick, buy this CD. - To paraphrase the lead singer - I really don't need this, I can get the same satisfaction from writing and recording the songs without producing a CD. Unfortunately, the same thing that provides my mates with a platform for performance is the same thing that keeps them from being taken seriously, me. Yes, we are lucky.

5 out of 5 stars Grunts Rock!.......2002-04-25

This is an exciting album! Wistful melodies, bring on the medal rock, a hint of zydeco, belted out ballads with a touch of gaelic for depth on one song. Each song has a story. They are all different. But the journey through the CD is wonderful and complete! I love the fact that these guys play an assortment of "styles" of music. And all done really well!

How they sound on the CD is how they sound live! Their music is what it is-pure unadulterated guitars, drums and horn. Sung from the heart, played from the heart. A talented group of guys!

5 out of 5 stars Soooooo good!!!.......2002-04-11

I just received my "Bastard Life or Charity" CD and I just love it! Russell has such a husky, sexy voice. TOFOG is a really good music group. I was surpised at what a good beat the songs have.

Can't wait to order their other CD's.

HOLY EFFING CRAP!!! This is an excellent cd. I love FBTMOF because every cd is different. Therefore, it's hard to pick a favorite because each cd has it's own personality. But I would say this is the best place to start out if you've never heard FBTMOF before. Highly recommended.

It is way better than ART DAMAGE.

It does take time to get use to, however, this is a gem. If your the kind of person who feels the music sooo much that you scream a long to the music....this is one of those CDs. NOT THAT this is a sing a long CD necessarily. Lisen. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Great band, great album.......2006-07-09

This is one the best albums I've randomly grabbed off the internet on a random dl'ing spree. I promptly bought their album, cuz I support bands I like. This is what all screamo should sound like, in my opinion. Rawly emotional, angry, sad, hateful, so good. The vocalist has a bit of a grindcore inspiration in his yells, while the guitarist, who is also a vocalist, has a ballistically good emo yell, not bothering with melodies or notes, just with yelling for the sake of expression. Every time his voice cracks, the song gets a little better.
I suppose for some this kind of music takes awhile to grow on you, or you just don't like it at all. No one I have shown them to has liked them because my friends aren't into really heavy music. For me, from "Fashion Tips Baby" I was hooked and HAD to hear the rest.
And the guy that left the bad review a few reviews back...I don't remember your dumb name, either way: technical skill is for losers with self image issues. If you can't pick up a guitar and let the notes just flow out of you once in awhile then you're just kind of a musician for hire, and thats kind of what all the music you like sounds like to me. Just because you don't like a kind of music doesn't mean it isn't skilled, so chill.
Case in point: Amazing album, buy it now.

3 out of 5 stars Just alright.......2006-07-05

I had never heard these guys before but I had heard good things from friends and internet reviews. I have to say I was a little disappointed, now thats not saying it was bad just not what i wanted from it. It won't be frequenting my cd player.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2006-05-10

Fear Before The March Of Flames-Odd How People Shake *****

Feriously nasty guitar licks, scorching vocals and growls form mars, and thats only the opening track. Indie, Hardcore, whatever, you cant really classify a band like Fear Before The March Of Flames who in my opinion are one of the most innovative and original bands of their time or any other for that matter. The use of background vocals are amazing and that alone shows the advanced musical knowledge of the group. Coming out of Denver, Colorado a place I live in where the music scene is really less then amazing this guys really are a diamond in the ruff.

The balance of screaming and singing is perfect. Not one out weighs the other which is a very good thing. Sometimes in fact most of the time screaming can grow old and annoying but not with Fear, they are just amazing. The experimental rythyms and guitar parts are very unique and interesting they never get boring especially on this album. Without a doubt the bands best so far.

The bands use of breakdowns is the best I've seen, they are the only band I have heard latly that knows how to use one properly. They don't use them in every song and when they do they fit perfect and flow nicley unlike bands like Norma Jean and The Bled who sometimes seem awkward and out of place and ruin songs.

Fear Before The March Of Flames is deffinatly a band to check out. Odd How People Shake is their best album by far and a very good place to start to get into them. I recommend this to anyone looking for something different in their music instead of the same old thing.

There's a temptation to judge 30 Odd Foot Grunts harshly, given that Russell Crowe's talent as a singer falls far short of his acumen as an actor. But that isn't entirely fair. Veering somewhere between David Bowie and Chris Isaak, Crowe's rough but nuanced voice provides a perfectly good vehicle for these vignettes of dashed love and struggle. Erring a bit on the wordy side, with choruses that ramble, the songs are rescued by solid and often adventurous musicianship. Often a nasty snarling guitar asserts its splendidly ugly head, reminding one of nothing so much as the menace of vintage ZZ Top. The oddly named ensemble is best served by more raucous numbers in which the players sound like early '80s pub rockers on a loon. Unselfconsciously retro, the band is full of attitude and sass, but that all dissipates on maudlin songs like the self-absorbed "Unfaithful Man" and the wooden and clichéd "Full Length of the River." Chrissie Hynde adds some class when she duets with Crowe on the conflicted love song, "Never Be Alone Again." --Jaan Uhelszki

I am very disappointed with this cd- i enjoy, Russell Crowe singing and acting. Why is it, that this is the first time,i have been disappointed in buying a cd from company. On the back of cd-there are listed 15 tunes- number 14- farm noises is not noted as being played- but, i neither hear tune 13 or 15.. One of all,i am interestedin hearing is FOLSOM PRISON BLUES. WHEN I PHONED AMAZON- THEY SAID- THAT THERE WAS NO FOLSOM PRISON BLUES- AS THE LAST TUNE- OR NOT INCLUDED AT ALL- THAT FARM NOISES IS THE LAS TUNE- NO SOUNDTRACK- WHY IS THIS CD- BEING MISREPRESENTED.

I'm not quite sure what the others are basing the positive reviews on... the lyrics are ill at ease and the vocals by Mr. Crow are underwhelming and actually a bit embarrassing for the listener.

Put some lipstick on ugly and its just painted ugly.

3 out of 5 stars I'll give Russell a little credit..........2005-09-30

I didn't enjoy this CD as much as "Bastard Life," but I still have to give Russell Crowe kudos for writing his own stuff. Extra kudos for the cover of "Folsom Prison."

5 out of 5 stars Wish I discovered this a few years ago..........2005-09-18

After seeing Russell Crowe on a repeat of the Charlie Rose show promoting CINDERELLA MAN, I impulsively downloaded "My Hand My Heart", his internet-only "solo" CD. I was blown away, and quickly ordered the Grunts' back catalog- This CD was the first to arrive, and I am equally impressed. Favorite tracks are Painted Veil and Inside Her Eyes, although all the tracks are standouts. I'm bummed that the band has "dissolved/evolved", but they are new to me, and I'm happy to be so pleasantly surprised when I had no expectations. Go to iTunes, and download the Russell solo CD. I literally haven't stopped playing it in a month, and am seeking out "Great Big Sea" who collaborated with RC on "My Hand My Heart"... Good stuff!! Looking forward to receiving GASLIGHT and BASTARD LIFE OR CLARITY...

5 out of 5 stars Other Ways of Speaking.......2005-04-11

This is the first CD of TOFOG/Russell Crowe I have listened to. What a surprise! I loved it from the beginning. I have to say his vocals are not meant for every octave but then who has that range?? The musicians lift each song and even if the vocals(lead by Crowe) aren't always the best, the music is awesome!! It makes great traveling music on a sunny day with your sunroof wide open! I am buying the rest of their work and hope it as good as OWOS. That song is worth the entire CD price. Buy it.

5 out of 5 stars the best album from the greatest band.......2007-07-10

if you have one crowbar album to buy...... buy this one !! the most brutal band on this planet. Its heavy metal that makes me cry !! the riffs
are so emotionel, you can feel them in your bones !!! the lyrics, once again Kirk came out with the best lyrics you can imagine !! their is alot of albums i heard in my lifetime (im 33 years old) bands come and go but their is nothing like a crowbar record and i will never get tired of this.

5 out of 5 stars Crowbar's best mature effort - NOLA sludge at its finest........2007-05-30

The title says it all. This is my favorite album of theirs, with "Crowbar" and "Sonic Excess..." close behind. Kirk's earth-shattering riffs groove like no one's business, with the help of the infamous Sammy Duet (ex-Acid Bath, Goatwhore, Ritual Carnage). If you like it "slow and heavy," you simply cannot go wrong with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome........2006-12-05

"...you learn from what's killing you."

This is by far the best Crowbar release. The songs are heavy like molten metal and the hooks are just as dangerous. You cannot escape the weight in this one. A+

5 out of 5 stars A masterwork from the kings of southern doom.......2005-12-24

This album is not for the feint of heart, but if you enjoy heavy, deep, emotional and most of all LOUD music, this album is for you. Crowbar has been making some of the heaviest music on the planet for many years, but this album was the one where they really started to expand their horizons and introduce other elements. It's breathtakingly dark, depressed, and beautifully melodic in the most surprising way.

Truly a standout album in their impressive catalog, and an absolute must for fans of heavy music.

5 out of 5 stars You can't not like this album.......2005-10-23

Can enough great things be said about this band? From the opening notes of the intro to the closing of Remember Tomorrow, this cd grabs you by the nuts and doesn't let go. Crowbar is one of the most talented bands out there. Sadly they don't get the recognition they deserve, but that seems to be all too common for the truly talented bands. Don't hesitate, BUY THIS NOW!

5 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite CD's.......2004-09-27

"Odd Man In" is my favorite Tim O'Brien CD, and probably one of my favorite CD's of all time. I've been listening to it for years and I never get tired of it. Every song is great, especially "One Way Street", "Lone Tree Standing",and "Flora, the Lily of the West". "Hold to a Dream" is my favorite Tim O'Brien song, and he's written some great ones. The musicianship on this CD is incredible, Tim's singing is gorgeous. What more could you ask for? If you don't have this CD, you should buy it. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Falling for Tim O'Brien's Sound.......2001-08-04

I bought first a cassette tape on the recommendation of a flat picking friend... to hear the very romantic "Romance Is A Slow Dance" in this album. He was right. I loved it. Quickly I fell in love with the sound of Tim's voice and the other cuts from the album, most notably "Like I Used To Do", a title that reaches out and touches me so sweetly. I am particularly fond of "One Way Street" and "Hungry Eyes". All the songs on this album have become very special favorites of mine and prompted me to purchase the CD also, to have Tim's wonderful sound with me where ever I am. Buy Tim's music and be prepared to love his sound.

5 out of 5 stars Fine Originals and Traditional Tunes from a Great Performer.......1999-08-20

There isn't a track on this CD that isn't a winner. My personal favorite is the sentimental waltz "Like I Used to Do", but I wouldn't argue with somebody who chose the sarcastically funny "Lonely at the Bottom, Too" or several others. The backup musicians provide the perfect complement to Tim's fine singing. This CD accomplishes the formidable task of being true to Tim's music while at the same time accessible to those who aren't already acquainted with it.

5 out of 5 stars As Lyle Lovett says, "We should all be so odd...".......1998-05-15

I live for Tim O'Brien's appearances at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Not only is he a great picker (mandolin, mandola, mandocello), keening fiddler, and super songwriter, but as far as I'm concerned he's the real Mr. Blue-Eyed Soul. "Odd Man In" is also by far O'Brien's most accessible album, jam-packed with originals and classics. His tragic take on "Flora, the Lily of the West" is incomparable, but he also sears on his own creations, including my favorite, "Every Tear Has a Reason Why." In fact, there's a Tim for all seasons. Prefer the jocular guy? Have a go at "Lonely at the Bottom, Too" or "That's What I Like About You." Another of this disc's numerous pleasures? It's so crisply produced that every time Jerry Douglas and his dobro, or Stuart Duncan and his fiddle, chime in, I'm inclined to genuflect. You'll get religion, too--C. of E., of course! Though lately, Tim's become a little Bob Zimmerman-obsessed (vide his unlikely but fine "Red on Blonde"), I rather wish he'd stick to his guns.

5 out of 5 stars Logan Whitehurst (1977 - 2006).......2006-12-15

All 22 tracks on this disc are pure gold. If you like TMBG, you MUST check this out. I've been listening to this record for almost a year now, and the tracks are still in my head. I don't mind though, because they are THAT good. If you still aren't convinced, Google him. There's an archive of his early out-of-print albums, which is apparently approved by his record label and his family. It's really fantastic stuff. Rest in peace, Logan.

5 out of 5 stars I have one word for you: BRILLIANT........2006-12-13

If you listen just once to Goodbye, My 4-Trak, I guarantee that these songs will play back in your head for days--and you won't mind. Intelligent, hilarious lyrics are coupled here with catchy, sophisticated tunes. I played it for three friends in one sitting. One woman immediately ordered three of them. The other two each ordered a copy. All ages love this stuff. If you buy one CD this year---buy this one!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it - You will love it.......2005-07-29

This CD is my favorite discovery of the year. I'm so glad I heard Robot Cat on the radio and called the station to learn who the artist was.
I adore each and every song. This is good clean toe-tappin fun. I suspect Logan Whitehurst is a genius.

But beware! At the advice of Amazon, I also tried the James Kochalka CD, recommended along with Goodbye, My 4 Track. It was just obnoxious. Not entertaining at all, just a stupid disappointment.

So there you go:
Logan Whitehurst - YES!
James Kochalka - NO

5 out of 5 stars An incredible piece of work........2004-11-19

I don't want this to sound too crazy, but this album is magnificent. Not just a good novelty or indie record. It's outstanding!
I first heard Logan Whitehurt at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He performed live at a lecture by Dr. Demento, of the legendary Dr. Demento Show. I went because I was bored and left with one of the best albums I'd heard in a long time - Goodbye, My 4-track. The songs are addictive, the production is superb and the lyrics are genius.
A definite A+. If only albums like this would get more attention...
I would recommend this for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Infectious beats and witty lyrics make for a great listen.......2004-04-09

Logan Whitehurst, the über-indie pop genius, has outdone himself with "Goodbye, My 4-Track." If you don't mind switching from lizards and fish to robot cats to prosthetic brains (and back again), this record is sure to keep you humming all day long -- which may or may not be a good thing. The music is catchy and refreshingly unassuming, and the clever lyrics will keep you laughing out loud no matter how many times you hear them. The fact is, this record is just plain entertaining. There's no way around it. If you are looking for comfort after heartbreak or are angry at an unjust world, this is NOT the CD for you. If, however, you just want to have a good time, pop "Goodbye, My 4-Track" into your stereo and enjoy yourself.

4 out of 5 stars sick ish.......2006-02-17

I dont know why anyone would not like this album if they are fans of louis logic. jay rips it as well but you can tell louis in on another level. i think the beats are also hype. fun cd, offensive to others, pure logic. Sick. 14 is the best song, just tight.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of $.......2005-06-22

If you're thinking of buying this CD because Sin-a-matic was so dope beware because this is nothing like Louis Logic's first proper album. From what I understand this wasn't meant to be groundbreaking music but more of a fun party album, but it still sucks. J-Love brings some real sh--ty rhymes on this album and the beats are pretty much subpar, aside from 1 or 2 tracks. The song with J-Zone and Celph Titled is okay but still doesn't save this waste of time and money. Maybe there's a reason there are 60 used copies for sale here on amazon, I always see a few in the used bin at my local record store too, thats where my copy went. I was REALLY dissapointed with this CD, but most of my friends thought it was alright, so maybe its just me, but I'm hoping Louie Lodge's next solo album isn't anything like this disaster of an album.

5 out of 5 stars Very good album.......2005-05-07

The other reviewers for this item might be thinking about another group / band with the same name, because this Odd Couple consists of the two MC's Louis Logic and Jay Love. As the title probably already didn't leave much to guess, this album is mostly about getting drunk, or about fighting or having sex... while drunk. This wouldn't be that good if the lyrics weren't so well-written and funny. Besides the funny lyrics, the album also sounds good because of the great beats provided by J.J. Brown. The album shouldn't be taken too seriously, but it's light hearted and has a nice vibe to it. The lyrics to most of the songs probably aren't too suitable for young teenagers according to their parents views, but who cares? Just buy the album whether you're young or old... well, not too old.
