Some may find the mixture of both instrumentals and ballads troubling; however, those that contribute to this remarkable CD make any critique a moot point.

Deliciously Romantic! A Masterwork! Congratulations on being # 1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart!.......2007-05-23
Our ever-imaginative Paul has gone absolutely, deliciously and totally romantic this time!! He seems to love to explore new territory and this time he's outdone himself. This one is passionately, emotionally romantic, setting moods with soaring, rich and lush sweet melodies but changing up here and there to a faster pace with a few of his signature 'funky' additions like "Here We Go" but always keeping the core feeling of that moodily seductive theme. His work on the horn is as smooth and expert as ever...with each piece impeccably and wonderfully crafted and with expert arrangement and instrumentation embellishing perfectly his horn work and the ladies' vocals.
With Regina Belle, Latoya London (of AI fame) and others, he's picked his female vocalists well and they do a great job of contributing to the lusciously romantic feel of this album. "I Want to Be Loved" is a soulful number that just takes off and soars...Latoya and Paul do a wonderful 'duet' on this piece. Personal favorite is the lead: "Ladies Choice" but not far behind is "I Want to Be Loved", "How Did You Know" with Regina Belle's smooth sultry voice and the upbeat sound of "Here We Go". Also I'm lovin' the feeling and movement that Paul puts into the also upbeat number "Point of View". As a matter of fact, typically enough, in his consistent fashion, there are no lulls in the action on this one...every track a masterwork. No matter where he takes you on this song or that..you feel like you want to pick that partner...to dance or snuggle up to!
I feel strongly that this effort of Paul's deserves a 5 star rating! It is his best to date.

Substitute grits for glitz, soul for sheen, and wry humor for mythic self-regard, and the Amazing Rhythm Aces could have been the Eagles. Though they didn't fly as high commercially, the Aces' blend of rock, country, down-home rhythm & blues, and even gospel continues to satisfy on this combo reissue of the band's first two mid-'70s albums. "Third Rate Romance" remains the Memphis band's signature song and major pop hit, while "The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)" anticipated the changes in commercial country a couple of decades down the road. Rhythm aside, the key to the band's appeal is frontman Russell Smith, whose songs and singing transcend musical boundaries with amazing grace. --Don McLeese
Album Description
Their first albums for ABC, released in 1975 and 1976. Includes their big hit 'Third Rate Romance' and more. The two titles are, 'Stacked Deck' and 'Too Stuffed To Jump'. First time on CD. Standard jewel case. 2000 release.

More than any children's music release this year, Justin Roberts's Way Out makes you want to buy multiple copies and pass them out to friends--if only to prove that children's music can be unaccountably great. Justin's gift for transplanting himself into the psyche of an 8-year-old lifts him head and shoulders above his goofy-voiced peers. However, simply pinning Justin's talent on songwriting alone sells him short--few others (Dan Zanes, Ralph Covert and They Might Be Giants are exceptions) rock their records as hard. Way Out draws us way in, expertly mowing down musical age barriers and delivering us from the mistaken idea that kidstuff doesn't count. -Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Loved this!.......2007-01-09
Every time my son asks me to purchase a "new" Justin Roberts CD I find that it;s better than the last we bought! His music is not just for children, but the whole family.
Way Out CD by Justin Roberts.......2007-01-05
I was fortunate to walk past the librarian's desk and discovered a new CD of his. I LOVED it sooo much i had to buy his others immediately. I am so tired of the typical kids songs we have always heard. He is a humorous, talented lyricist sounding similiar to my favorites - Squeeze and the Cure. I was not disappointed - i can't wait for his next CD.
Wow! The best yet!.......2006-04-25
20 minutes after dropping my kids off at school, I'll realize that I'm still listening to Justin Roberts by myself. Truly great 'kids' music' that adults can enjoy, too.
The beat and brass on this one will get you moving.
Love it!!
Rescued from the Wiggles.......2006-03-16
We discovered Justin Roberts music on XM Kids radio one day, and my entire family was hooked. His lyrics are clever and surprising - and has brought my three kids (ages 5, 3, and 1) to both giggles and quiet thoughts while listening. We dance to "Airplane of Food" and "Daycamp" almost daily, and we LOVE the "Humpty Dumpty" song - it's inspired a game where the kids dream up crazy things that Humpty can see while up on the wall.
We're anxiously awaiting his new "Meltdown" CD release on March 21st, and are proud to own all of his albums. We each have our favorite songs - and the kids (and I) fight over which one to listen to next. We've graduated from the Wiggles, and are never EVER looking back!
Great for kids and parents!.......2006-01-15
This is an upbeat, comical CD with great music for kids and parents. Parents, you'll find yourself listening to this music even when the kids aren't around! This will become your favorite kid music to play, I promise!

Barry Sadler drove a sharp spike into the already polarized American psyche with his unabashedly patriotic and pro-Vietnam War chant "Ballad of the Green Berets," which rocketed to the top of the charts in 1966. Supporters of the war in Southeast Asia embraced "Ballad of the Green Berets" as an anthem; antiwar activists derided it as jingoistic, machismo garbage. In retrospect, they were both right. Sadler, a wounded and decorated Vietnam veteran, possessed a thin, stilted baritone better suited to recitations than actual singing (which there is actually very little of herein). As a songwriter, he was little more than one-dimensional. And, sadly, like so many veterans, Sadler's life seemed to slowly unravel after the war, and after the fleeting taste of fame that "Green Berets" afforded him. Though he continued to record and write soldier-of-fortune-style pulp war novels, he never had another hit. He died in 1989 after being shot in the head near his home in Guatemala, under mysterious and somewhat seedy circumstances. Oddly, though, when heard today, far removed from its emotion-charged original context, this scant, musically inconsequential collection of guts-and-glory odes and reminiscences takes on new meaning as a slender but vivid historical document from one of America's most divided and tumultuous epochs. --Bob Allen
Customer Reviews:
Songs by a soldier for soldiers.......2007-02-16
I am a retired Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel, so you may take this review with a grain of salt. Sadler only made one album but it was a good one. For those of you who do not remenber the Vietnam war, you may find this worth having. The songs are done by an elite soldier, about soldiers. Some of the songs are humerous, and others are sad. The song "Ballad of the Green Berets" is well known among the Special Operations community, and is still played at many of the Army's Special Forces official functions. The other songs a lesser known but are worth listening to. This CD is a must have for any past, current, or future Speical Forces soldier.
Ballads of the Green Berets.......2007-02-07
I enjoyed this CD very much. The tracks are all superb. Like little history lessons, with a positive sound of the 60's to them. I was saddened to hear that S/Sgt Sadler is no longer with us, but he has left some lovely ballads in this CD in his memory.
I May Be A Liberal.......2006-11-12
And smoked too much pot and that's why I didn't get that the musicality on this cd was such a hot button issue. Okay, his voice isn't doesn't have that much range, but he sings mostly in key and works within his limitations. The song writing is consise and pictorial. It does occassionally wallow in sentamentalism (for example, The Badge of Courage), however songs like I'm A Lucky One and Siagon should be acerbic enough for anyone. This cd is a concept album and most of them have a few songs that were written to round out the song count. And looking at it as a concept album, it works along side most other concept albums. It has the serious and maudlin moments, the lighter moments and everything in between. And, I will lay odds that even non military personel can relate to the song Garrett Trooper.
PS: As to the title: Yes I am a liberal. No, I don't smoke pot anymore. Much.
This Album Will Always Stand Out.......2006-09-22
From 'Nam to Iraq these songs will always remind us of our brave men and women who wear our nations uniforms with unselfish devotion to keep us free. The songs are great and tell a story that many of us experienced back then. Truly one of the best albums I ever heard.
Outstanding tribute to the troops.......2004-12-09
I remember when this record first came out, and after a long, long spell I recently heard it again. It still has power as a stirring tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of those in uniform during the Viet Nam era. The only problem is that it brought to my mind a nagging question: what were our current President and Vice President doing during this time when so many of our boys were making these sacrifices?

Disappointing transfer to CD.......2007-07-01
I own both of these albums on vinyl. Since they were acquired in the 1960's, they show some signs of age and I had hoped that modern audio transfer technology might even improve the original recordings; that is certainly not the case. The Make Someone Happy tracks are the worst--distortion and fuzziness make some tracks almost unpleasant. There just doesn't seem to have been much attention paid to the final product in the transfer process. That's a shame, because We Five has always been one of my favorite groups from that era, and they didn't leave behind a lot of material. I'm sure someone could do a better job on re-mastering, but I'm not optimistic because the market may not be there.
2 great albums for the price of 1 CD........2007-03-30
After playing my vinyl copies of We Five I decided to check Amazon to see if they might be available on CD. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both albums were on 1 CD and at a price lower than many single CD's.
The sequel is not the equal.......2007-03-26
You Were on My Mind is a great album. With the exception of a couple songs--particularly Love me Not Tomorrow (first cut), which sounds amateurish and has a grating lead vocal--the choices of material, the arrangements and the performances are fresh and such a pleasure to listen to over and over, which my girlfriends and I did in the late 60's and early 70's. When I found it on CD on Amazon.com I was really excited. I had never heard or heard of the Make Someone Happy album. There are a few songs up to the standard set in the first release, but the sequel is not the equal. But, since they are both on the same CD it's yours anyway.
A great listen and a great memory.
An incredible voice with good arrangements .......2006-12-24
I listen to this CD more than any other. Although this is not one of the better known 60's recordings; it offers one of the "best" voices I've ever heard. I never tire of Beverly Bivens. How many voices can one honestly say that of? If you liked her strong, rich delivery in "You Were On My Mind", you'll love it in "If I Were Alone." Her tonal range (reportedly low tenor -> high suprano) and style difference between "High Flyin Bird" and "Tonight" is impressive; but, her ability to "range" from "richness" to brilliant clarity, has not, in my experience, been equaled. Couple this with "feeling" and "articulation", and you have a voice that's consistently interesting and pleasing. A lot of female voices came out of the sixties, and many think none were better than Beverly Bivens. To me, the others weren't even close.
This CD offers: Foke Rock, Blues, Show Tunes, Standards and a couple "Quirkies." The arrangements are nicely done. Although the re-mastering is not what it could be; the CD is well worth owning.
BEV BIVENS - simply the best.......2006-12-04
The first WE FIVE album is now 40 years old. It remains the best album of its genre still to this day. Bev Bivens singing is a gift to all of those who have become long-time addicts of this album. The album is a masterpiece that still brings chills when those haunting Broadway show tunes play. I wonder if she ever realized just how good she was?

Just as adult authors from Isabel Allende to Clive Barker are writing kids' books these days, rock & roll artists (remember Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's 1993 recording Not for Kids Only?) are reaching out to the younger set. Thank goodness, we say... and scoot over, Barney. Festival Five Records is the children's music label founded by Dan Zanes, former lead singer of the Del Fuegos, where he hopes to capture "the sound of a neighborhood band on the front stoop playing tunes after dinner for a family dance." His third CD release, Night Time! ("a musical cool-down disc for all ages underground"), comes on the heels of Rocket Ship Beach and Family Dance. Here, traditional tunes such as the West Indian sea shanty "Pay Me My Money Down" and the African American folk song "Down by the Riverside" take their place next to folksy, hypnotic Zanes originals, including "Night Owl," "Firefly," and "Linger for Awhile," a song aimed to reflect Brooklyn stoop life. Mandolins, harmonicas, trombones, fiddles, electric guitars (and more!) add to the contagious buoyancy of this eclectic 16-track CD. Our favorite is "Rattlin' Bog," a delightfully nonsensical cumulative song, led by Father Goose and featuring the kids in the Dandelion Chorus. As in his other CDs, Zanes invites friends and family to join the fun, along with heavy-hitters such as Aimee Mann, Lou Reed, and Dar Williams. This irresistible collection, appealing to toddlers and easy on their parents, is packaged in a colorful board book illustrated by Donald Saaf with starry scenes of moonlit music making. An excellent addition to any children's music library. --Karin Snelson
Customer Reviews:
Different from House Party.......2007-05-14
I ordered this CD along with Dan Zanes House Party CD. My daughter loves the fun songs from the House Party CD better than the Night Time CD. I can't get her to listen to the slow songs on this cd although I really enjoy them.
We love this cd.......2007-02-11
This is in our babies room. Each night when we get ready for bed we listen to this cd. It winds her down a little and makes diaper changing a little more easier for us.
children's music.......2006-10-29
This music is mainly for children but some adults will find something to like about it, too. The music is diverse and creative. Children are sure to like it if you play it for them. Of course, it's hard getting children to listen to music if they don't want to, but give it time and I'm sure they will enjoy this collection of songs.
great music!.......2006-08-05
Our 22 mo. old loves this music much more than the kiddy tunes that mom and dad can hardly bear to listen to.
Dan Zanes Nightime is "Happy Music".......2006-07-27
I was introduced to the Dan Zanes Nightime CD while I was visiting my 3 1/2 year old grandson. He listens to it everynight before going to sleep with "Pay Me You Owe Me" being his single favorite song. I fell in love with the CD because each time I play it I can vividly recall the pleasure it gave us both. The choice of songs on the CD gives all ages something to remember and before you know it you will be singing and dancing along with the music.

Peter and Gordon CD.......2007-06-08
It was wonderful hearing the Peter & Gordon hits of the 60's. Great melodies; awesome harmony. It brought back wonderful and happy memories from my teen years.
Peter & Gordon - 'The Ultimate.....' (Collector's Choice).......2007-02-15
Hadn't heard this British Merseybeat duo's music in ages. They just remind me so much of Chad&Jeremy. Total of twenty tracks here to check out once again. Some of the cuts I thought were good are "A World Without Love" (possibly their most memorable hit), "Love Me Baby", "I Go To Pieces", "Lady Godiva", "Woman" and the snappy "You've Had Better Times". Didn't REALIZE that Peter&Gordon covered so many other's music, like the Beatles, E.King, Phil Spector, etc. Should definitely appeal to fans of the Seekers, Gerry&The Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits and the Mindbenders.
About Peter & Gordon (& Paul & Jane).......2006-10-16
Peter Asher and his sister Jane came from an affluent London family and had been successful child actors. Jane interviewed a newly-famous Paul McCartney and began a relationship with him. Thus he was introduced to the Asher household and met brother Peter, who had teamed up with Gordon Waller (a friend from his days at the frighteningly expensive Westminster school) to form a singing duo. This was an extraordinarily productive time for Lennon and McCartney (which we are now informed was actually McCartney and Lennon, and which no doubt will eventually be revealed to have been simply McCartney) and they had songs to spare. Peter & Gordon's first three releases were Lennon and McCartney exclusives and were hits. Paul actually gives a spoken introduction and sign-off to the third track, I Don't Want To See You Again.
The first thing that struck me on rehearing Peter & Gordon after all these years was how genteel and upper-crust they sound, especially on A World Without Love. It's not often you hear a posh English accent in post-1960 music, so that gives it some novelty value.
After the Beatles exclusives ceased, they struggled to find songs. Their covers of True Love Ways and To Know You Is To Love You are very good, but their own attempts at composition, such as Don't Pity Me are, well...pitiable.
You've Had Better Times, the penultimate track, is interesting. Recorded by an apparently inebriated duo plus assorted friends, including Brian Jones, it's a glorious mess, with missed notes (eliciting a "Whoops!" from Gordon) and erratic changes of tempo. Yet it has more soul and energy than anything else they recorded.
Jane went on to become more famous than Peter. She is a sort of British Martha Stewart, famous for her megacalorific cream cakes. Peter went on to be a producer and is credited with discovering James Taylor. Gordon continued to record and perform. Whatever happened to Paul?
Peter & Gordon are good but not great vocalists, who offer a melodic, easy sound that is characteristic (apart from the accents) of the early sixties. The tracks you absolutely must hear from this album are the first two (A World Without Love and Nobody I know) and the novelty song Lady Godiva, which the duo hated but I think is quite fun.
The (rather cursory) insert notes end with a definitive statement that the duo have no plans to reunite, as it would 'cheapen the memory of their music'. Sure enough, as I write this review, they are on a reunited tour of the US. No doubt the Baby Boomers will be out in force to hear them, and to recall a time that seemed so revolutionary and dangerous then, but seems so genteel and safe now.
Not original radio versions?-but good.......2006-04-05
I just saw P&G perform their first concert in 39 years and thought I would buy a CD. I agree with "Fresh Oldies Fan". For people looking for the original versions, I don't think these are the versions we grew up with. Close though-or somehow manipulated.
Fresh Oldie Fan.......2005-11-23
"Ultimate" is the appropriate title, although not totally accurate. This CD has many or all of this duo's greatest hits, but don't expect the familiar radio versions - because they aren't there. The cuts are nevertheless pristine, but this is for diehard fans who love all P & G's work, regardless of source.

50 All-American Favorites.......2007-06-30
I just purchased this CD Collection set Recently. In my opinion, this is the Best Mitch Miller CD that has ever been released. (5 + Stars all The Way Through! I have alot of these songs on a great 33 record album which I also purchased back in the mid-60's. This CD set is fabulous & a must to have if you like Harmony. This great CD also could be re-titled--"Songs Of Amercica" because it has all of the Great Classic Songs such as "My Wild Irish Rose", "I'll take You Home Again Kathleen", "Shine On Harvest Moon", "Rock Of Ages" for example. There is only one thing that is negative about this collection of great classic songs of days gone by & that is--It does not include the great song (" Toot, Toot Toosie Goodbye"). This CD is Wonderful & the best CD in my opinion of the ole Classic "Songs of Amercia"! Superior Quality! Excellent Harmony! You will be Very Pleased with this Collection Set. Buy It Now! You Will Love It! Also if you like great Harmony--such as Barbershop Quartet's just let me know--I'll give you some great info!
Perfect for the Elderly.......2007-05-12
This product is excellent for my elderly.they really like it and love it.its a collection of beautiful songs from the 40's & 50's.
Exactly what I was looking for.......2007-04-13
It's just like I remember on TV (I have a good imagination) and LP (without the skips and crackles) when I was a kid. It's fun to plug it in and sing along while riding in the car. If you wanna forget your cares for a little while and get happy, sing along with Mitch.
Great!.......2007-01-13
I was very pleased when I heard the quality of the voices on this CD. I was looking for the words to the songs my mother sang to me as a child (ie. rocking me to sleep). I wanted to learn them so I could now sing them to my little girl. This is easy to sing with and learn all of the words.
Beyond All Expectations.......2006-06-24
This collection is frankly well beyond my already very high expectations, in terms of absolute listenability, the song selections, and the quality of the reproductions. These CDs contain fifty of the best sing-alongs ever, and is a great compilation from several Mitch Miller LPs. You do not have to be in the "over-fifty crowd" to enjoy these glorious songs from our past, and the full, incredibly rich vocals by these singers will fill your "nostalgic cup" to overflowing!

Wear Your Love Like Donovan.......2007-06-12
This is vintage Donovan. Most of it has a medieval feel to it, and is perfect for sitting back and relaxing after a stressful day.The only "commercial" cut is "Wear Your Love Like Heaven." The rest is unconventional, and well...pure Donovan.
Higher and Higher.......2007-06-05
When you are young and just starting out in life, you could care less about such things. But, as you get older, the "road" shortens . . . and you get a better view of where you have been, where you are today, and where you will be tomorrow. I am a "child of the sixties" . . . and there is no shortage of great music that helped define my generation. And, of course, It would be difficult to say good-bye to any of the old friends that helped provide me with the soundtrack of my life. But, this I do know, when I leave this world, the two albums that will be safely tucked under my arm will be "Sgt. Pepper" and this one. Enough said. It was and is that personal.
Fresh from a garden to me.......2007-01-10
I have looked for this music for quite awhile. When I got it, it transported me back to the late sixties, early seventies. The music was as good as I remembered it to be....thanks again, it made my year!!!
Life is so good.......2006-11-10
A very happy CD that depicts an era when there was some optimism in music. This is a double album. The first part is so 60's; you want to say Groovy and Neat-O again.
The second part is very accoustic and poetic. This part was one I listened to as a child and was glad to hear again.
"I can see by your eyes you're a good man".......2005-12-18
There is a special place in my heart for this album and for all those who love it too. It's a kind of high-water mark in my life, evoking a time when the world seemed fresh and clean, and full of sweet magic.
Listening to these recordings once again, with more adult, "sophisticated" ears, I am surprised to discover, once again, the excellent artistry they demonstrate. Every note sung just so, as it simply had to be. A well-polished gem.
