Retro bossa meets French lounge electronica........2005-07-28

On the back of the CD jacket are the words "this is the music of the sun" and nothing could be more true. The album tells the story of an Amarican tourist who travels to the exotic French port village of Saint Tropez to meet the "photogirl" of his dreams. A summer romance follows with the inevitable final result. English lyrics are sung by Greg Penny (producer of Elton John, K.D. Lange, & Cher), French vocals by Katia Lempkowicz Penny. Despite the French setting, the music is predominantly Brazilian bossa nova with some modern house rhythms thrown in from time to time. A perfect companion to Getz-Gilberto, and that says a lot! One of my fave albums of all time.

Here are the facts. This is a record intended to only profit from the name St germain. Whether you spell it Saint Germain or St Germain, it is bound to confuse general music fans. If you want a St Germain style record - PARIS UNDER A GROOVE is the best record available at the moment which embodies that general electro jazz, funk, dub, trip hop sound.

In response to the reviewer from South Carolina, the album description states that this includes St Germain. Think before you write something that will actually be pubished online.
This album does not include the sounds of St germain, or one of his tracks for that matter. Three stars for marginal tracks from lounge producers from around the world.

This CD is great for those looking for Electro-Jazz lounge music.

If you want music from St. Germain, then look for the proper artist under the proper spelling instead of giving a bad review to a good CD only because you can't spell the artist's name correctly.

Saint Grmain compilations , especially the Des Pres Cafe no.5 are excellent , while trying to leave the nü jazz or electro jazz scene they move to Lounge music , its so pathetic short time runned and poor quality editing it.
Play it in a restaurant bar or bookshop

todos os cds de saint germain cafe e lounge sao muito bons........2003-07-07

nao entendo como pessoas que nao entendem de musica queiram opinar a respeito... todos os cds com o titulo saint germain (nao me refiro ao grupo e sim as coletaneas VA) sao excelentes, de muito bom-gosto e elegantissimos, ou seja cool. Lounge eh um estilo pra se comecar uma festa ou uma recepcao, o som deve ser calmo porem com batidas e comtemporaneo, dando abertura ao bar, para posterior chegada do DJ. Este cd eh otimo, se encaixa em downtempo speed up, perfeito pra tomar um drink, conversar e agitar o corpo. compre que vale a pena...

Lounge fans, avoid this..........2003-05-10

Those clever fiends at Beechwood Music - they combine the magic words "Saint Germain" and "Lounge" with a slick, euro-modern packaging concept and calculate (correctly) that they can lure us in. But true lounge aficionados should beware. It's not that there aren't some good tracks on this compilation, there are (but be warned that the track listing provided here is not for this release. MOST OF THESE TRACKS DO NOT APPEAR ON THIS CD!). The main problem here is that, as anyone who owns a few "lounge" comps knows (I own about 20 or so), they usually collect downtempo, chill, nu jazz and like genres to create a mood appropriate to working, entertaining, relaxing. They certainly can contain some upbeat material, but I DO NOT THINK THEY SHOULD CONTAIN DANCE MUSIC! Unfortunately, Tim Millington, the compiler of this mess, has thrown together a bunch of jarringly dissimilar music to create an annoying "speed up/slow down" effect. On top of that, a lot of these tracks are just plain mediocre. The Votel remix of Aim's "The Girl Who Fell On the Ice" (I believe that's supposed to read "The Girl Who Fell THROUGH the Ice", geniuses!) comes to mind. Better to have included the original. Instead of this release, try "Private Lounge 2", any of the "Hi-Fidelity Lounge", "Lounge Deluxe", or "Om Lounge" series, or "Purified". In fact, instead of this, buy any other CD ever released.

I bought this from a local cd store that very curiously (if not ignorantly) placed this cd next to St.Germain (Boulevard, Tourist) but so happened I thought I'd give it a try...and I was pleasantly surpised! Some extremely good electro-jazz beats, unfortunately not consistent throught out every track but very chilled throughout. Cusiously I think the amazon track list is different but regardless this is a good cd to get for devoted fans of St.Germain, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Thievery Corporation.
