The Bacon Brothers say it best on this hilarious CD's title track: "Poultry in motion is a beautiful thing." So is a record that grabs you by the funnybone from its opening (the Seldom Herd's "Cows") and doesn't let go till the final note is clucked. Sandra Boynton, whose illustrated board books have become as much a part of every toddler's reading list as Mother Goose, makes a convincing case here that authors can succeed brilliantly as very silly songwriters. Meryl Streep, Laura Linney, Kevin Kline, Natasha Richardson, and fourteen other performers all qualify as contenders for king and queen of the coop, and they whoop it up enough to guarantee the most enjoyable sing-along ever. --Tammy La Gorce

This is great music to dance to with your kids. The songs are really amusing and they have great rhythms for dancing. My kids and I have had a lot of fun with this cd.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE it!!.......2007-02-23

My son just got "Dog Train" for his first birthday. I don't know what his opinion on it is yet, but I love it! I love it so much that I ran out to buy a couple more as gifts for my son's playgroup friends. That's when I saw "Philadelphia Chickens" and "Rhinosaurus Tap". I bought both and am completely in love with "Philadelphia Chickens". The songs are really catchy and grown-up enough sounding that I don't get that crazy feeling that I get after listening to other kiddies CDS over and over. Chances are pretty good that I'll be buying a bunch of them as gifts too!

5 out of 5 stars My 2 year loves this CD.......2007-02-18

My 2 year is loves animals and since this CD has a different song for every animal she loves it. She also loves the Belly button song since we have the Belly Button book. I would recomend it for 2 and up. We bought it when she was younger but only recently started requesting the 'Cow Music'

4 out of 5 stars Off beat fun.......2007-01-05

This album is very funny! The songs are humorous and dramatic which makes it PERFECT for my little performer. And as an added bonus, there are some surprising voices added to the mix. However, this is not the standard children's album. It's quite eclectic and off beat. You will "get it" much more if you know Ms. Boynton's books.

5 out of 5 stars A must have! Plus it's a collector's item!.......2007-02-12

Sandra Bernhard is unstoppable! There are very few Live albums that can do justice to the perfomance, but "Everything Bad & Beautiful" is one of the best I've heard! Every track packs a punch. Take Sandra's cover of Missy Elliott's "Pussycat" for example, it rocks, enough for you to want to blast it. Along with lots of other great song selections and Sandra's famous take on society, it is Sandra after all! Not to be missed, and it's going out of print, prices will rise!

5 out of 5 stars She's Everything Bad & Beautiful.......2006-11-27

I just want to say I bought this album from Sandra's website, it's her newest release from a new record company. Sandra's still got it, she is absolutely hilarious. Sandra makes fun of everybody from The Bushs, to Julia Roberts on Broadway. Telling storys of how Bob Dylan broke up her family as a child, all while singing songs in between with her high energy voice, not to mention she still makes fun of Mariah Carey, hilarious. It's a great live album that will have you playing it over and over, and your stomach will be hurting so much from laughing. also the all girl band on this album are amazing. A must have for Sandra Bernhard fans!.

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars You 're The One That I Want.......2007-04-03

The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26

Well here we are with a great piece of history.

This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06

I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.

Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.

This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.

The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

3 out of 5 stars If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15

Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

Sandra Boynton's Rhinoceros Tap is a loopy good time--delicate piano ballads swoon over unloved peas all alone on a plate ("O Lonely Peas") and the pink-nosed object of a lovesick mouse's affection ("I Love You More Than Cheese"); a penful of pigs dig into a doo-wop celebration of their "fabulous swine" selves ("Perfect Piggies"); and a Dylan-esque dog bids his pack adieu with the mournful line, "It's sad but true/I'm 6 years old, but I feel 42" ("So Long, Doggies"). Best of all, skeptics who guessed that Boynton's first CD, the star-studded wacko revue "Philadelphia Chickens," succeeded so brilliantly because she had an army of celebrities behind her are dutybound to shush. There is but one singer here, the pleasantly even-keeled Adam Bryant, and though he lends these 15 numbers a likability that may not have translated without him, it is Boynton's crackpot wit, as well as the winning arrangements she pieced together with musical partner Michael Ford, that de! serves full credit for the way the songs winnow themselves into listeners' brains, be they 3 or 34. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Even my 8 year old loves it!.......2007-05-12

As a preschool music teacher, I often use books that are music related, or at least singable. We've enjoyed Barnyard Dance with both my boys, a toddler and a 3rd grader, and I've wanted to use it in my classes. Almost all the other tracks are so enjoyable, even for me. My boys' favorite is "Tickle Time". My toddler loves to chant "tickle, tickle, tickle" whenever he's playing. I appreciate that there's enough grownup humor to keep me interested and not bored. I highly recommend this CD.

I just love these CDs by Sandra Boynton. This was the second one we got. These are loaded with fun songs you can sing along with. You have to listen to them a couple of times to get hooked on the songs. Once you can sing along you will find yourself listening when the kids are not around.

5 out of 5 stars So much fun. . ........2005-11-21

I like this even better than Philadelphia Chickens-- there are fewer songs on this CD that I skip. (Only 1, 'Bad Babies," and mostly because I don't want my 3 year olds to say "bad Babies" in public. . . .)

The "Dinosaur Round" could drive one nuts (if played as frequently as my kids would like it) if one didn't like to stomp around like an idiot (or a dinosaur). Personally, I love it. My husband, on the other hand, is about "dinosaured" out.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-07-31

I have this CD for my 5 month old and he loves when I sing all the silly songs to him. But I have to admit that the 2nd to the last song "Little One" makes me cry everytime I sing it to him. Fun for whole family to listen to, even Daddy enjoys it.

I loved the music more than the movie. This is truly an add for any collection of Movie Soundtracks or the like. Excellent blend of two cultures in a musical spirit.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning... a disc that will get repeated plays.......2007-01-19

I don't usually listen to soundtracks as they are usually just a grab bag of unrelated songs that don't work so well together as a CD and therefore don't sustain my attention for very long. Some of the exceptions would be Samsara, Himalaya (a stunning CD), Baraka, 1 Giant Leap... and now Nowhere in Africa. There's beautiful symphonies, chanting, drumming, occasional bird sounds, native Africans and other effects that evoke whole range of moods and emotions over this powerful, inspiring and uplifting one hour journey. This academy award winning film really touched my heart and I think a good part of it was the beautiful score that accompanied it.

This is first class music that you will play again and again. If you enjoyed the film, be sure to pick up the soundtrack to Nowhere in Africa. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

5 out of 5 stars JohnnyReviews [Starred-Review].......2003-07-06

>Nowhere In Africa was a breath-taking movie with music that can take you away. This is definately a must-see film. UNBELIVABLE! Now let's get down to the music here, since the product is the soundtack that is being sold here. They have this one voice that sings a song that they play multiple times during the movie. It is made to sound like a child. It goes...

Eee-OOO Ah.
Eee-OOO Ah.
Eee-OOO Aaaaahhhhh.

The sound is just so beautiful. This is the kind of music that is so soothing it could put you right to sleep. But the music is strong and has a message hear of what this family had to go through to survive and what they had lost when their families died when they refused to leave their Nazi Death Chamber. Sad but a must see (and listen)!

5 out of 5 stars "Magnificent score reflects the country ~ Niki Reiser".......2003-05-07

Best Foreign Language Film winner of 2002 from the Academy Award people and nominated by the Golden Globe is "Nowhere in Africa", from director Caroline Link ~ is captivating to say the least. From Nazi Germany one family escapes in 1938 to a new beginning in Kenya ~ from the autobiographical book by Stefanie Zweig is truly an amazing story ~ but wait it only gets better with an award winning score by Niki Reiser, the Swiss Composer who leads the Baset Symphony Orchestra inclusive of sweeping strings and native chants. Very short (less than a minute) tracks of a child singing with harp accompaniment is haunting.

Highlights ~ "NOWHERE IN AFRICA", rhythmic percussion interwoven with the string section, wind instruments join the pulse sating journey ~ "LOVE SCENE", piano solo as strings close in with solace and meditation ~ "JOURNEY THROUGH KENYA", opening sounds of a hoe-down and chants blend within each passage and counter drum beats within the percussion section.

Hats off to Higher Octave Music for sharing this wonderful soundtrack with all the "film-score-buffs" who look forward to unique and global world scores ~ this album will sit on my top shelf for continual enjoyment in the next days and weeks forthcoming.

This interesting Delius disc contains one of his first major works, the Florida Suite. It was while working on an orange plantation in Solano Grove, Florida, that Delius first captured that sense of nature's intoxication that permeates all of his best music. It was also there that he caught the syphilis that would eventually blind him, and later cause his death. Aren't you glad you knew that? Anyway, the other major work is the haunting tone poem Over the Hills and Far Away. The other pieces are short, entertaining, and ephemeral, but they're all performed with great skill and expertise. A very good deal at budget price. --David Hurwitz

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Performances.......2005-01-18

If you like music descriptive a landscapes and the bucolic life, the Florida Suite is certainly what you are looking for. The Florida Suite stems from the time the young Delius spent on a plantation (sent by his father as a possible business future for his son) overseeing orange groves. Fortunately for us, Delius studied music and not business. Delius' father recognized his son's true vocation and sent him to the Leipzig Conservatory to study music; the Florida Suite was written during his student years. The first movement of the suite includes music (known as La Calinda) that was later used in Koanga, so it is appropriate to have the final scene of that opera included in this CD. The third movement recalls the plantation workers after the day is done and the dance they do that has Spanish feel to it. The final movement is a very effective evocation of night. The opera Koanga is set on a plantation in Louisiana, revolving around a slave-girl named Palmyra, which worked well with descriptive music about Florida.

Over the Hills and Far Away is a fantasy-overture. It is a joyous work that evokes a landscape of distant hills. The theme is the subject of several variations. The Idylle Printemps nicely expresses the season of the title and the Scherzo and La Quadroone were part of a larger suite for orchestra (subtitled Rhapsodie floridienne). This music is perfect if you have had a difficult day and want to relax.

The CD is nicely recorded and David Lloyd-Jones is a superb interpreter of Delius' music. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Another Great Naxos Recording at a Great Price.......2004-05-13

I am not all that familiar with the works of Frederick Delius, and I know I am probably not alone. His opera, A VILLAGE ROMEO AND JULIET is sometimes performed in his native England, but other than seeing a few of his works in the DECCA catalog, I knew little about this composer until Boston's local classical music station, WCRB began playing "By the River" from Delius' FLORIDA SUITE as what they like to call a "track to relax." I fell in love with the piece and wanted to add it to my collection, but had a hard time finding it, until I looked where else but the Naxos catalog and discovered this gem of a recording.. In FLORIDA SUITE, Delius is able to create an American feel to the music using the great attributes of the European classical tradition. The other tracks on the recording likewise demonstrate Delius' gifts as a composer. Delius's sound is a full and majestic one. One of the more curious tracks is an excerpt from his little known opera Koanga. The same techniques that made the other tracks beautiful likewise work in this operatic excerpt.

The English Northern Philharmonia under the direction of David Lloyd Jones honors their countryman well in this work. And, as so often is the case, Naxos delivers quality at a great price

5 out of 5 stars Such a great treat!.......2004-04-06

Frederick Delius' "Florida Suite" has got to be among the finest compositions of all time. Every line of it amply speaks for Delius' strong connection with and subtle appreciation for the myriad aspects of nature. Few works can match its elegant beauty, which is rendered so nicely on this performance. And the wonderful sound quality makes for very satisfying listening.

Among the quick results I've obtained from listening to this CD is a real appetite for the works of Mr. Delius. I read that he abandoned England in his youth for the managment of some orange groves of Florida, which he rather neglected in favor of his music. We are very lucky indeed that both the orange crop-and this sumptuous music-remain vital today. Mr. Delius has gone, but perhaps we will see his like once more, in a better world, to remind us of the power of nature.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful "Florida Suite".......2001-09-18

Delius, to me, is one of the most underappreciated composers. Often dismissed as a composer of light, impressionistic miniatures, he in fact composed several large scale works of which the "Florida Suite" may be the most famous. Made up of four movements the work contains some of the composers most delightful melodies including the famous "La Calinda" which he would use again in his opera "Koanga". This is its original setting and makes for a wonderful opening to the work. The second movement "By the River", a favorite of Sir Thomas Beecham, contains a wonderful flowing melody that just carries the listener along.

This CD is also of importance to the Delius fan as it contains several works which are recorded for the first time on this CD: Idylle Printemps,La Quadroone, and "Scherzo".

The recording has a wonderful full sound and David Lloyd-Jones, who has previously recorded several acclaimed releases for Naxos, gets excellent performances out of the members of the English Northern Philharmonia.

79 minutes of Delius in a recording that can stand up to the majors in every way.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album.......2007-03-16

This is a great album that I listen to over and over again. It really makes me feel... Sarah Chang is one of the greatest violin players and she has done a fabulous job on this album.

4 out of 5 stars Easy listening Chang.......2006-03-09

This collection, consisting mostly of reissues, showcases Chang's expressive qualities, with the emphasis being mostly on the slow and dreamy side of her art. One has the feeling that the producers envisioned this disc as background music for a romantic candlelight dinner or some such, and for that purpose it is perfectly sufficient. Chang, of course, is a major violinist and none of the playing here is less than topnotch. As a musical experience for connoisseurs, however, "Sweet Sorrow" has its drawbacks, chief among them being the sameness of mood and tempo. Also, the inclusion of fragments of works such the Vieuxtemps Fifth Concerto and the Tchaikovsky Concerto is musically unsatisfying; the latter is particularly irritating as it leaves the end of the slow movement simply hanging. It may be of some significance that some of the most engaging playing from Chang is heard on the earliest tracks, the Chopin Nocturne and Liszt Consolation, recorded in her child prodigy days; here a genuine love for the music comes through that is somewhat muffled in most of the other selections.

1 out of 5 stars total disappointment.......2005-08-14

In Chang's performance of the Vitali Chaconne, the feeling and passion initially apparent in her playing was wiped out by her
almost total lack of energy, expressed in a thin sound that often
made it difficult to distinguish the solo violin from the orchestra strings. By the second quarter of the piece, I was shocked to find the sound of her violin fading out in mid melody. It was so terrible, so embarrassing, I had to stop listening.

I think a much better interpretation of the Vitali is the one by Oistrakh, but sadly it is with piano accompaniment while Chang's is with orchestra - one that performs superbly... So that the aesthetic crime that is Chang's anemic, thin playing is doubly terrible.

3 out of 5 stars some ways to go in knowing sorrow..........2004-09-04

Sarah Chang is no doubt technically brilliant on her instrument, however, her playing lacks depth and consistency of style. In the piano piece by Lizt re-arranged for violin for example, she has great difficulties in transitions and is therefore subdued in her musicality. The orchestral interpretation/edition of Saint Saens piece on this album is awful. Similar recordings by Anne Sophie Mutter or Midori Goto show greater maturity and are much more pleasing to the ear.

4 out of 5 stars emotionally riveting vitali.......2004-01-13

The Vitali is worth the price of the cd. The rest is also very good - although obviously all very similar pieces. HOWEVER, this rendition of the Vitali with full orchestra (which is hard to find) is emotionally riveting. I usually stop the cd at that point because it's hard to listen to anything else immediately after that. Kind of like Jacqueline DuPre's Elgar - you need quiet after it to return yourself to everyday life.

1 out of 5 stars SHE PLAYS OUT OF TUNE!.......2005-08-16

Yes, she does: her sound is horribly thin, and she can't play the highest notes strong enough, so that they wither away and disappear into silence. Even the darkest, lowest notes come out weakly, so one can't argue that she has trouble just with the upper registers: her whole playing is terribly bad. She does have
a good vibrato, but I fear that if her sound were not thin, the vibrato would make even the darkest melody sound pathetic.

Hahn is all right (not excellent, nor good, just right for
some provincial recital hall) as long as she keeps to the lower pitch range (perhaps she should be playing the bass fiddle!), Shaham does everything only passably, and Chang has some passion and feeling but no strength to express it, but Salerno-Sonnenberg is bad across the board. There maybe a passably competent technique in her playing (that is, she can get the melody across), but she plays out of tune - the sound is disgusting!

I know how crazy this piece of writing must sound among so many raves, but there's no other way to explain the horribly weak, thin sound of the violin in this recording. Perlman, who suffered all his life from weak health, even in such difficult pieces as Beethoven's Kreutzer sonata was able to produce a full-bodied sound - and this, when he was well past his sixties.

But then again, Salerno-Sonnenberg is not alone in showing such a lack of... no, this is not about inborn talent. I doubt some child can pick up a violin and play in tune without first listening to a competent elder's playing. After the most basic education in music performance, it is just a question of getting a good recording of a piece, and practicing till one gets a relatively equal sound.

I harbored great hopes for Salerno-Sonnenberg when I read about her troubled life, the attacks she had to face from critics, her attempted suicide. I was letting myself be deceived by that old Romantic cliché, that pain makes for good art. But this is not about discovering or rediscovering unknown masterpieces, but about interpreting establish ones, and a Paganini doesn't have the "extended techniques" present in many postmodern pieces where noise passes for music, so in this case a standard called in-tune playing exists, and she doesn't perform up to it. But this judgement depends on my senses. If you don't believe me, you can find out whether I am right, or whether I am just another flea-like critic from the incestuous music business, by comparing Salerno-Sonnenberg's playing to that of any famous solo violinist whose career started in the 60's or 50's - when gesticulating wasn't equated with playing.

5 out of 5 stars Perfection.......2004-11-02

Salerno-Sonnenberg's passionate, elegant, heartbreaking interpretations of these wonderful selections is perfectly paired with Sandra Rivers at the piano. I shall never forget their performance of "Claire de lune," the Kreisler pieces, or the exquisite Rachmaninov "Vocalise." In her hands, the violin becomes voice and reeds and brass -- transcending itself and taking the audience right along.

5 out of 5 stars Soul Quenching Expression.......2003-10-12

Making great music lies in the ability to express things words can't, to touch the soul, capture the moment and move the heart.

It takes a great artist to perform great music!

Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg is such an artist and this release is one of her many gifts to the music loving world!

5 out of 5 stars Fire and Passion!.......2000-11-14

Check out Track #5 - Liebesieid - for a small sampling of the tremendous emotional pull of Nadja's playing. I have several CDs of Itzhak Perman, and Anne-Sophie Mutter, but no violinist matches Nadja's gift of making each piece her own - you know that she truely feels the music - it flows through her - and it isn't just a dry technical playing of the piece.

5 out of 5 stars Salerno-Sonnenberg: Adroit and Emotional.......1999-07-05

What separates Salerno-Sonnenberg from other violinists is the pure emotion conveyed in her music. The power, sorrow or joy she expresses at any given moment is almost palpable. In fact, I remember listening to the first track on It Ain't Necessarily So and literally getting goosbumps. It's a stunning Kreisler piece that steadily builds in strength and tempo. Sonnenberg capitalizes on these elements, offering an unforgettable delivery. Many of the tracks on the album emit such raw energy -- It Ain't Necessarily so is not an album that will put one to sleep. Beyond strength, what makes this album worthwhile is the diverse selection of music. Of course Salerno-Sonnenberg interprets Kreisler, but she also plays Gershwin, Kroll, Schubert and even the jazz of Scott Joplin. The one complaint I have about this album is the sonics. For such a great musician, I think EMI could have recorded a little bit more dynamically. But don't let this keep you from owning the album. It's a truly great one.

5 out of 5 stars Another fun CD from Boynton.......2007-04-05

I am an adult with no children but I love Sandra Boynton's recordings! At first I thought "Dog Train" wasn't quite as good as "Philadelphia Chickens" but after listening to it again (and again!), I have changed my mind. It is so much fun and so creative!

5 out of 5 stars Good Family Music.......2007-03-21

This book and accompanying musical CD appeals to the whole family. We love listening to it in the car. Even my 4 year old niece likes it, though she has a hard time trying to sing the songs.

4 out of 5 stars Grown-up musicians with kid-friendly lyrics.......2006-11-08

I like this CD. A friend gave it to me, describing it as (I think) "grown-up music with kid's lyrics." It's not harsh on the ears (which is how I'd describe the Wiggles most of the time) but I don't find it quite as kid-friendly as Laurie Berkner or kids music with more of a folky sound. It's not music my daughter or I can sing along to easily.

Some of the songs stand out more than others. She really liked "Tantrum", "Pots and Pans", and "The Penguin Lament". The only ones we didn't like were "The Boring Song" or "Thus Quacked Zarathustra". She loved the title song and "Cow Planet" which is good since each of them repeats.

There are some artists on this I really like and others I could live without but we definitely like far more of it than we dislike. This is more for parents who'd prefer to listen to their own CDs of these type of artists but find the lyrical content not really child-friendly. It may be a nice change of pace for those who have other CDs for kids and want something a little less saccharine. I don't find the songs to be "edgy" but they're not as bubble-gum as on most kids CDs. I'll definitely check out other Boynton CDs now.

Since it's currently missing here's a song/artist list:

1. Tantrum - Spin Doctors
2. Thus Quacked Zarathustra - The O.K. Chorale
3. Dog Train - Blues Traveler
4. Sneakers - Mark Lanegan

5 out of 5 stars Dog Train by Sandra Boynton.......2006-06-08

This is an excellent package! The CD has wonderful, fun and irreverant songs that my son loves. All songs are performed by musicians/groups including The Spin Doctors, Blues Travellers, The Bacon Brothers...Steve and Edie Gormet, Wierd Al Yankovic and more. The book has typical Boynton illustrations and song lyrics... also, sheet music and info on the various musicians. Definately a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Solid, down-tempo release from pop legend Sandra.......2007-06-12

After another long wait, Sandra finally releases an album of new tracks. Was it worth the wait? Yes, although expectations were so high it's hard to imagine everyone being pleased.

Despite what other reviewers have said, I don't think The Art of Love is very unlike Sandra's previous recordings... maybe less upbeat numbers, but definitely in her style. I'd compare it to the organic, more acoustic sound of Paintings In Yellow rather than her early 80s synth-heavy releases, though.

While I too was disappointed by the lack of upbeat, more electronic tracks, I found the songs staying with me, growing on me... now it's one of the CDs I play most often at the moment.

Vocally, Sandra's voice seems weaker as the years go by, she frequently sounds breathless... and her spoken dialogues are a bit silly. However, this may just be vocal stylings, along with an annoying growl she's developed in her later recordings.

She's written most of the lyrics this time around, and done a fine job. They seem very personal, sincere... to the point where I am seriously concerned over the state of her marriage with (ex-producer/husband) Michael Cretu!

This is a fine album, however. I do think that if Sandra recorded more frequently, people would be more forgiving of her trying new things. After 6 years between CDs, fans expect her to hit the bull's eye... and rightfully so.

5 out of 5 stars A Mature Sandra.......2007-06-06

I have been collecting Sandra's album since the Arabesque days and Art of Love is my favorited album of her. I respect Michael Cretu as a musician, but I am glad that he is not involved in Art of Love. I was actually hoping that Sandra would use a total "stranger" as the producer. Artist needs to evolve and change with the time and Art of Love (also Wheel of Time) is Sandra's evolution. Maria Magdalena, Little Girl, etc.. were great but that was 20 years ago. Thank goodness that Sandra did not become another "Modern Talking" mess. I enjoy the Sandra of the new millenium more than I did back in the 80s. This album helps erase the dissapointing remix project "Reflection"

For the first time, fans of Enigma and Sandra got both sounds in one album. The best songs on this album is What d'ya Think of Me, You Put Your Arms Around Me ( I have the Sinead's version and Sandra's is better)and What's Left to Say. What's Left to Say is the best song on the album. This songs conjure thoughts of all kinds from personal relationship to what is going on in this world that we are living in.

First off let me say I had never heard of Sandra Cretu before except that I might have heard the odd Enigma song sometime in the past. I downloaded this album for free out of curiosity because I loved the title.I was blown away and went and bought it immediately as well as the single to get the great B-sides of different mixes(which I love even more !)"The Way I Am" Lounge version is incredible ! I changed the order a bit but now it's 17 songs of perfection to my exact taste. I have no idea what her earlier albums sounded like that is causing some animosity amongst the other reviews. But I can't wait to hear them ! This album reminds me of when I first heard Dido's "No Angel" and Sia's "Colour The Small One".
If you like either of those ladies "BUY THIS DISC N O W !!!!!!!!!!!
